Drew Kelly, of Connecticut: Mistakes To Avoid In Sales Followup Emails

So you have made a successful sales call and are now preparing to send a follow-up email in an effort to keep your lead hot. It is a situation that Connecticut-based Drew Kelly and many other sales professionals have found themselves in countless times. Making mistakes can lead to the lead going cold before you get the chance to talk again, so try to avoid doing the following in your follow-up emails.

Offering No Context

Just because your email is meant to be a quick reminder, doesn’t mean you should skimp on providing content or context to the message. Include snippets of information you gleaned from the conversation and make it clear who you are in the email, else you may find yourself consigned to the spam folder at the drop of a hat.

Check Your CRM

Your Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system should have plenty of information about previous interactions with customers. Ideally this will include any emails that have been sent by the company. In some cases, you may find that the initial follow-up work has already been completed, so sending another message going over the initial basics may be seen as a waste of time by customers.

Sounding Robotic

Many sales professionals make the mistake of sending the same, templated follow-up email every time. This comes off as robotic and shows clients that you haven’t really paid attention to what they need from the interaction. Keep each message individual and try to avoid using standard phrases that make you sound robotic.
