THE HOT: Born in Manilla, Philippines, DJ Chino has come a long way. He’s created a spot for himself in Orlando alongside some of the most successful club promoters and DJs in the music scene. Chino started his career as a protégé of Hitmen Productions in 1992 when Hitmen – which consisted of DJ Nasty, DJ Khaled and DJ Caesar – had the city, as Chino says, “on lock”. Chino’s ambition and his relationship with the crew opened many doors for him, and it wasn’t long before his interest in radio was piqued and he was asked to fill in for DJ Nasty on the Rollins College radio station from time to time. He was inspired to take it to another level and made his way into WJHM-FM 102 Jamz. His reputation escalated as he spun prime time slots such as The 5 o’clock Bomb, Friday Night Jump Off and the Saturday Night Bomb for the station. The popular hip-hop station gave him the opportunity to play for thousands of listeners, from Tampa to Jacksonville, as well as the opportunity to try his hand at producing. He’s currently the local producer of “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” and “Gospel Jamz Show.”
Now part of 102 Jamz, We The Best, Nasty Beatmakes, Core DJs & ShakeDown, Chino continues his climb to success by hosting and DJing some of the most popular nights downtown, including ladies night Girlicious at Backroom every Thursday (free Martini’s for the ladies!), the long-running Super Sundays at Firestone and I Love Wednesdays at 23, a night known for it’s red-carpet atmosphere and fashioncentric crowd. In addition to these nights and radio gigs, Chino has been hired to open for huge acts such as Big Pun, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Flo Rida, Jason Derulo, Rick Ross and Lloyd (just to name a few), and his relationship with some of the most successful music artists has led to appearances in music videos, such as Rick Ross’ “Magnificent”, DJ Khaled’s “All I do is win”featuring Diddy, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, and Busta Rhymes. DJ Chino, though thought of as a hidden gem in Orlando when we first got word of him, turns out to be one of the most soughtafter DJs and promoters in town. And with that said, he easily sets this month’s Bar-ometer to red-fucking hot.
COLD: While we’re not totally against the hooker look taking over the clubs these days (thanks to a hot mess that is Ke$sha), with the dirty hair, overthe-top platform heels, tight dresses and mix-matched sequin jackets and lace tops, there still should be a line drawn. I mean, is it really even “fashionable” to walk around a club in your bra with your second-hand Plato’s Closet t-shirt dropping down around your waist, while spanking the ass of your friend for the local photographer? No, that’s called acting like a slut. Stop it.

HOT: It must be the best feeling ever to have so much fun with your friends that you take photos together and don’t even care (or realize) that one of them is naked and the other is dressed like a complete moron.
HOT: Across from T.G Lee milk factory, near the corner of Robinson and Bumby, sits a little strip of boutiques and bars, where most of the businesses are owned by young, hard-working entrepreneurs. It’s an artsy district sharing the sidewalk of the popular pool hall Sportstown. Think Winter Park’s Park Avenue, but on a smaller, privately owned, less pretentious, younger and more affordable scale. OK, don’t think Park Avenue at all, actually. You won’t see a single yuppie carrying around her smelly dog while shopping for duds in Covert Skateshop.
And the clothing in Etoile Boutique’s secondhand vintage store is for the true fashionista, not just someone who has $800 to lay down for an off-the-rack designer dress. The new Milk Bar, while boasting a specialty-only beer selection, which seems like it would attract the snobbiest of the beer snobbies, is actually as comfortable as a coffee shop. The best thing about The Milk District, in DRINK’s opinion, is that it plays into the Orlando nightlife scene, partnering with club nights to sell clothing, hosting local bands in its shops and DJ’ing your favorite bars. For that reason, beyond all the others, it gets our support.
COLD:

OLDD D•CCOL CCOOLLD•
Though fun at the time, in retrospect, being the main attraction in the future porn hit “One girl, six bottles” was probably not the best idea.
WARM: No, these aren’t the ones still wearing pantyhose in 2010 and serving greasy food to middle-aged men. Wing Girls is an Orlandobased company that uses attractive women to do the wingman work for guys who choose to take pickup-artist advice from a man named Mystery – a guy who sports feather boas and man-liner (and you wonder why you’re still single?). Why it takes special techniques to pick up drunk bar sluts will always
be – ahem – a mystery to me. But if your social jitters are really keeping you from doing so, by all means call on the Wing Girls for help. We still have to give it a warm because there seems to be a fine line between this coming off as an innocent pickup move and looking like you hired an escort – or creepily invited your attractive sister out to help get you laid for the night.

FRIDAY AMBIANCE FRIDAY
FAME FRIDAY
New restaurant in the Mall of Millenia makes way for another classy crowd, top-shelf selection of drinks and a fitting slogan for this particular night that tells us to “Party Like An Adult”. At Ambience Friday, another party put on by local promoter Chris Biggins, guest DJs and resident DJ Firas Laurent spin Top 40 hits, house and remixes. Make your way to the bar and you’ll find a select list of $5 martinis for the ladies and 2-4-1 shots all night. 9 PM; CRAVE RESTAURANT AND BAR; 21+ FREE
Hit the red carpet and party with Orlando’s elite every Friday night at Dragon Room for DJ Chino’s Fame Friday. Ladies enjoy free drinks before 12 and with the local paparazzi in house, fashionable attire is once again a must at this ultralounge. 9 PM; DRAGON ROOM, CHURCH STREET; PRICES VARY
ESCAPE Ladies free until 11 pm, open bar until midnight. $6 top shelf all night, $99 Ciroc/Grey Goose/ Hennessy bottles. DJ Tony Tone, DJ Mums, DJ Netics and Crew. 9:30 PM; ESCAPE ULTRA LOUNGE (FORMERLY MIST), $10 FOR MEN
July 30 Crowded House 8 pm; Hard Rock Live; $25 - $50
VINYL NIGHT WITH WAXFANG From golden era hip-hop, to grimy funk and disco, to ‘80s electro/boogie, all the way to indie and shoegaze, not a (worth listening to) genre of music is left out at this vinyl night favorite. Waxfang describes the night himself as “going to a big house party where the hosts have a really rad, eclectic record collection”. We totally agree. This isn’t a club night, rather just a laid back
music scene with a bar that holds its own complete with all the fancy beer you could ever dream of on the super duper cheap. 10 PM; REDLIGHT REDLIGHT; FREE
LEGIT Not expected to be found next to the casual confines of UCF’s Knight Library, the Dungeon Lounge (ANOTHER ultralounge) removes the sandals off the ladies feet and gives the college crowd a night to dress up (or at least values a no hat rule, pretty sure anything else goes). At Legit, DJ Docta Dawe and dLux remind the city that hip-hop is not quite dead . Add in some Bangers and tag team a set back-to-back and trackfor-track the way no one has ever done in a UCF bar before. No cover and free drinks for the ladies until midnight, plus $3 Three Olives from 12 -2 am. 9 PM; DUNGEON LOUNGE, UCF; LADIES FREE
July 30 Rihanna, Keisha 7:30 pm; 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheatre; $19.75 - $250.00

CLUB NIGHTS
SATURDAY COLLEGE NIGHT One of the Knight Library’s best nights for drink deals. Every Saturday at College Night get two-for-one everything, $4 Coors and Miller pitchers, $5 rum buckets all complete with a sexy cage-girl contest. The DJs spin mash-ups, Top 40 and dance all night long and the cover you pay to get into Knight Library also gives you free entrance into its classier sister bar Dungeon Lounge located right next door. 9 PM; KNIGHT LIBRARY, UCF; COVER VARIES
RUMOR SATURDAYS Decorated with a bit of Asian sophistication using shoji screens and a beautifully blue illuminated bar, Dragon Room finds itself among the popular grouping of Central Florida premier ultra lounges and delivers yet another gorgeous venue you wouldn’t expect to be found next to college bars Chillers and Makos. Rumor has it that Rumor Saturdays has an amazing drink special every week and you’ll need to tune into their Dragon Room

MIDNIGHT MASS If you’ve ever considered yourself a lover of music, Midnight Mass is everything you could wish for. Usually presenting a few local or national acts, Backbooth continues the night with Midnight Mass at 12 am, as DJ Adam Wright creates a mix of everything from classic soul, Top 40, to indie and electro dance music. The clientele is of the younger, hipper kind, but this isn’t a place that will discriminate against you if you’re not in line with the rest of the kids’ fashion or age. If you come to dance, and that is all, Midnight Mass is just perfect for that. Oh and the keg is free until it floats. 12 AM; BACK BOOTH; FREE-$4
OLD SCHOOL NEW WAVE DJ John G, one of Orlando’s longest running DJs brings I-bar back to its roots and gives us a crowd favorite of a night
every Saturday. The loyal, more adult crowd has been with the club since the bar opened its doors, but still continues to hit the dancefloor the same way they did in the ‘80s for the new wave classics. $2 dollar Bud Lights and wells top the night off perfectly. 10 PM; INDEPENDENT BAR; FREE-$5
