In my Spring president’s message, I stated our goals and “Why Statement” and thought it would be fitting to open my final message with these words. The goal of ASID is to advance the profession, influence the design community, and create a brand that speaks for itself. Our “Why Statement” is as follows: “ASID advances the profession and communicates the impact of Interior Design to enhance the human experience”. Just a great reminder why we are a part of this wonderful organization! First, I would like to thank the following board members who served under my term: • President Elect, Martha Lurie – Words cannot describe how you’ve been a tremendous support for me this year. Your insight and wisdom kept me going and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for the 2015-2016 year. • Finance Director, Donna Vining – Donna, what can I say?! Thank you for your continued service to our board and chapter! You’ve been an invaluable asset and the effort you spend whipping our budget into shape has been tremendous. You are our own ASIDTGCC Historian! • Communications Director, Shawna Roorda – Shawna, you’ve been able to work your magic as communications chair and I thank you for your volunteerism. To watch the design awards committee in action under your watch has been awesome and I know this year’s Awards Gala will be memorable. • Professional Development Director, Janus Lazaris – Under your leadership, your committees revived the Annual Meeting, Leadership Training, and Student Career Day. I have to say, these are no small feats. Thank you to the countless hours you spent (as well as your committees) devoting your time to the chapter. You are a rock star! • Membership Director, Judy Bonica – Judy, thank you for stepping in as Membership Director Midyear. Our membership has grown 13% from last year and I’m sure this is just the beginning. We look forward to what the Social Network brings this upcoming year! • Director at Large, Larry Boykin – Larry, I will certainly miss your quick wit at our board meetings. You’ve knocked it out the park with your Speed Selling events and the Adopt-A-Student program. We’ve increased our student membership and we have you and your committee to thank. • Student Representative to the Board, Andrea Yanes – Best wishes to you and your future endeavors. Thank you for all that you’ve done with our student community and I hope to see you at our future ASID events. You’re like family now and you can’t get rid of us! Last, but certainly not least, a huge thanks to Past President Debra Sabrsula for your guidance and support. And I can’t forget Kendra Garrett, our administrator. Thank you for answering my text messages and impromptu phone calls in between my client meetings as well as my early or late night emails. As I transition on to Past President, you will still see me as an active member of the chapter I love so dearly. I’ve also continued my leadership to the national level, serving as Chapter Support Team member for the California chapters. I can’t wait to see what this new endeavor has in store and I’m excited to extend my leadership role for ASID. In closing, I hope to see everyone at the ASID Ruby Awards Gala, which is scheduled for September 19th at the House of Blues. This year we had a record breaking number of entries (298 to be exact) and we can’t wait to see everyone in attendance. It’s guaranteed to be a fun night! I made my 40 count…did you? #ASIDTGCC2015 #MakeYour40 Best, Letecia Ellis-Haywood, Allied ASID President ASID Texas Gulf Coast Chapter 2014-2015

The Social Network By Suly Weissman, Interior Designer - Allied ASID, IIDA Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and staying cool in this lovely Houston heat. We have been having a lot of fun at the Social Network. In June at The Nightingale Room, we had the big reveal of where the Ruby Design Awards will be taking place this year, celebrating 40 amazing years of design excellence with ASID. Our President, Leticia Ellis-Haywood, was present and made the announcement, excited to share the news that it will be at The House of Blues on September 19th, 2015!!! It was so great to see so many of you sharing this special time for ASID. Our July event was nothing short of fantastic! Peli Peli was an incredible host and treated everyone with such warmth, making us feel right at home. Designer Si Dang from Andria Designs came out to speak extensively with us about the concept, development, and inspirations that he used to create and design this beautiful space. The turnout was amazing and I am incredibly thankful to each and every one of you that came out to support our chapter. To my army of volunteers, I don't know what I would do without you and our sponsors who always have been there to make our events unforgettable. This is my last quarter as chair of the Social Network and all I can say is thank you for this incredible opportunity. Leticia EllisHaywood, Shawna Roorda, Michelle Stream and I started this 3 years ago with a simple idea of how to make something fun and memorable that will bring the design community together in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere. I am truly humbled, my heart is full from this experience. I have met so many amazing people and seeing you every month, growing together and becoming more than colleagues but long lasting friends is something that I will carry with me always. Thank you. Our next events are: September at Weights & Measures, and then our annual and most anticipated Halloween party of the year held at Ferguson in October, and finally in November we will be meeting at A単ejo. Look forward to seeing you all there. If you would like to keep up with us, follow us in Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

On the bus ride to Metrocon, designers, IPs and students got to chat about the industry, what to know when you get out of school, ins and outs of client relations and we even played a bingo game based on trivia from the underwriters – several gift cards were won!! After arriving in Dallas, everyone was treated to an amazing dinner at Mattito’s Tex-Mex in a private room which allowed everyone to get to know each other better and just have a good time. Afterwards, Ferguson and Thermador hosted a fun night of karaoke at Kung Fu. And that was all before we actually went to the show! We received email after email from students about how much fun they had and how they can’t wait to go next year! As a designer on the trip, I truly enjoyed pouring into these students they all have bright futures with ASID!! Thank you to my fabulous committee members – you’re the best! Judy Bonica, Pat Brewer, Steve Clifton, Ramon Navarro, Jan Therien, Monika Walter and Andrea Yanes … and, of course, Kendra Garrett!! Until next year…. 2015 ASID Chapter Leadership Conference The Designers are coming! The Designers are coming! By Larry Boykin

This was the cry heard throughout the city of Boston Massachusetts the morning of July 16th 2015 for this was the day that began the National ASID Chapter Leadership Conference. Hosted by our New England ASID chapter counterparts, your 2015 - 2016 TGCC ASID Board of Directors went to be educated and prepare to serve you in this upcoming year as leaders in our organization.

Located at the Boston World Trade Center, the board participated in various team building and board position training with more than three hundred other leaders from around the country for three full days. From official board rules, policy and procedures, to director specific education, it was a great time of sharing and growing as our national leadership took us from nervous entrant volunteers to well-prepared confidant board directors.

We would like to offer a special thank you to the New England Chapter for your wonderful hosting and amazing event preparation. Our accommodations were excellent and the private ASID CLC Kick-Off party held at the Boston Tea Party Museum was indeed a treat! Your Texas Gulf Coast Chapter also was well represented at the National Awards Cere-mony held at the Boston Museum of Fine arts.

Durston Saylor “Circumstantial Evidence” Exhibit Open Durston Saylor is one of the foremost architectural photographers practicing today. His work has been published in books and magazines internationally and he has been instrumental in defining the image of contemporary interior design and architecture for the past 25 years. Based in New York, Saylor is widely recognized for his 20 year association with Architectural Digest and is the recipient of many photography awards. “Circumstantial Evidence” presents Saylor’s architectural work in the context of his current personal investigations of form, color and texture in a variety of non-architectural subjects. In the exhibition, Saylor displays over 20 large format “abstractions” derived from frescos, signage fragments and other ephemera. These astonishingly detailed, intimate investigations reveal his photographic process and affinity for capturing the essential elements of his chosen subjects. The abstractions are presented with many notable interiors he has photographed throughout his career. The combination of the two different subjects provides the viewer an opportunity to see the inner process of a master of the photographer’s art.
