into my term as President and I am having a blast. I can't say how privileged and honored I am to be a leader in the Orange County ASID Chapter. I owe it to the support of ASID National, board members and chairs to make this chapter successful, not to mention all the volunteers. What makes a Chapter successful? You, the membership, deem the chapter

successful. (By the way, we are one of the largest chapters in the nation!) From my perspective, it is meeting the needs of the membership by offering quality educational and networking events and meetings. It is also our duty to inform the membership of interior design legislation issues and to promote community services. We recognize the current trends in interior design, involve interior design students in the chapter and support business relationships with the chapter's industry partners.
The chapter has produced two new events, one is the Costume Ball in October and the other One Room, Communications Director Nazgol Seyedi, Allied ASID 619-708-8487 Communications@caoc.asid.org Professional Development Director Cynthia Prizant, Allied ASID 949-355-5467 ProfessionalDevelopment@caoc.asid.org

For the second year in a row: iDOD (Interior Designers Open Dialogue, a mentoring program), Chairs for Charity (sponsoring the Ronald McDonald House renovation), Expo (formerly known as the Trade Show), and Wine & Design (featuring designers' vignettes within SOCO's showrooms). And then there are the ongoing events: General Meetings (sponsored vendors' meetings), Industry Partners Forum (discussions on IP issues), Lunch & Learns (brief vendor presentation), Student Career Day (student/ industry focused discussions), and the Chapter's grand Gala/ Design Awards/ Installation in September.

Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about next year! Well, it is for me, at least. As President-Elect, it is time for me to start thinking about my Strategic Plan for my term which begins in October 2016. Every year, we send out a survey for you to fill out and we ask questions about what you would like to happen the following year. Please take the couple of minutes it takes to fill this out — your answers help shape our content and give you the opportunity to communicate your interests, likes and dislikes. In addition this year, I am posting some questions on Post-It notes on easels at our next few meetings. These are not the same questions on the survey; they are broader and require more than checking off a box. Please take the time to write something. You do not have to sign your name so you can write freely, and I really appreciate your comments.
‘One Room 12 Ways’ continues to wow at Stonemill Design Center. Come support your fellow designers: it’s a free event and so fun to see how 12 different designers approach the same space! And don’t forget to go to Facebook and check out the beautiful photos of the space by Modern Luxury Design. You’ll get the chance to vote for your favorite at the end of the year.
Chairs for Charity will be held in May at the Orange County Museum of Art, and will be a truly classy and fun evening with fine food, cocktails and fabulous fun! Of course, the best part is that the proceeds from all chairs auctioned off will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Orange County. This event, which we are partnering with Luxe Magazine on, is open to the public and special VIP tickets area available for pre-event cocktails and a tour of the art museum — book now so you don’t miss out! The auctioneer keeps the evening lively and you won’t believe how much fun this is!
The Expo will be held at the Hotel Irvine in June, with two special features. First, Kimberly Seldon will be presenting a new CEU called Start Strong. She will share her start-up process for all projects. She will talk about how to solve business challenges and reignite industry commitment. Not to be missed! Second, our guest speaker will be Fernando Diaz, internationally known interior designer. Of course, we’ll have fabulous food and dozens of vendors, some favorites and some new ones you haven’t met before!
All these events have come directly from feedback you have given us. So please remember to use your survey opportunity, and to look for the easels at meetings to voice your opinions and ideas. The direction of the chapter comes from you.
Warm Regards,
Adriel Cogdal, ASID ASID CA Orange County Chapter President-Elect 2015-2016

ONE ROOM
WAYS
By Patricia Bryson, 1R12W Co-chair One Room 12 Ways has flung its striking red french doors at the Stonemill Design Center wide open with a bang in February 2016. Flooded by flushes of attention from Modern Luxury Interiors, ASID OC’s first interior designer Angela Eason has transformed 1,000 square foot of blank space into an exciting space. The guests were entertained by the jazz band and delicious gumbo dish as the excitement and anticipation for the reveal approached. You can read all about it in About Town section of Modern Luxury Interior’s Spring / Summer 2016. The following month of March welcomed vibrant design created by Adriel Cogdal. The unit was splashed with kaleidoscope of colors to inspire artists within all of us. On April 28th, with the Opening Party at Clayton Home showroom, Karina Rizzo, is sure to dazzle us in style. Roaring 60’s with modern mid-century vibe, bold color palettes and multitude of floral and tie-dye pattern will take us along the journey. Just when you got used to the rhythm of 60’s, our May design duo, Lucia Henry and Lisa Volkov will bring the temperature down to breezy coastal living with Surfer’s Loft theme and calming natural inspiration. Admission is free. Come and meet the designers behind stunning new designs.

Paint Nite Fundraiser Besides advocating for legal recognition of qualified Interior Designers in the State of California, IDCC is known for adding “fun to fundraisers. Designers across the whole state, from close to the Mexican border all the way to Northern California, participated in a Paint Nite. Designer family and friends met at various locations throughout the state and with a professional artist learned how to paint a selected painting. Though some were nervous and self conscious it was an amazing experience and everyone produced fabulous paintings. Food and wine made the evening complete and everyone took home their masterpieces.
The Paint Nite Fundraiser went very well for our first true Paint night. We almost sold out every location, with over 32 painters at each venue. People came from ASID, IIDA, AIA, manufacture reps, dealer reps, end users, and family & friends.
Thus far over $2,000 has been raised, and by the time we are complete, should have raised over $2,600 for our coalition. We could not have done this without the support of our amazing partner Dunn Edwards, and everyone who came out and painted with us!

Council of Past Presidents “Fun”draiser for Legistration By Gigi Harris, Past President and Chair of COPPs The ASID Orange County Council of Past Presidents, in partnership with CAMBRIA USA, hosted a Chapter fundraiser to support IDCC and our advocacy efforts on Friday, February 12th. To kick-start Modernism Week, Cambria sponsored a luxury coach full day excursion for 20 designers and industry partner members to Palm Desert. Attendees boarded the luxury coach in the morning from the Laguna Design Center and were transported to the Cambria Gallery on Cook Street for an inspiring tour of their design innovations, followed by a delicious lunch. Next on the agenda was an exclusive preview of the Sierra House, one of the homes on the Signature Home/ Indian Canyon Home Tour during Modernism Week. The exquisitely designed 3600 square foot, 4 bedroom/3.5 bath home was renovated for Modernism Week by Thomboy Properties’ Jackie Thomas & DeeAnn McCoy. We were honored to be the first to see the property and were guided on a private tour by Jackie and DeeAnn themselves. Thank you to Celeste Lehmann and Cambria, Jackie and DeeAnn of Thomboy Properties, and Mary Jensen of Modernism Week for a funfilled and inspiring day.

January General Meeting By Lauri Howell, Allied ASID 2015-2016 Programs Chair
opportunities to the audience including One Room, 12 Ways, hosted by Stonemill Design Center.
Our first meeting of the New Year was a great time to reconnect with fellow members and Industry Partners, as well as an opportunity to make new connections. We kicked off 2016 with our General Meeting hosted by Farrow & Ball at SOCO, enjoying the hospitality provided by Showroom Manager Cindy Saenz and her team.
Jake Smith of Rohl presented their CEU Presentation on Filtration. It was a lively and in-depth look at how our water is treated, and the various methods we have for bringing filtered water into our homes. This presentation also reviewed how to best sell a filtration system to our clients, as well as the myriad of products to source for our projects.
Taste Catering CafĂŠ created a wonderful spread of tasty treats, and we were able to see an advance preview of new colors that Farrow & Ball are due to launch at the beginning of February. Cindy also had on display an array of their handcrafted wallpapers that are hand-blocked using Farrow & Ball paints, to easily coordinate your interior colors with your paper of choice.
The evening concluded with the raffle where lucky winners took home an assortment of wonderful treats including a Farrow & Ball coffee table book bundle, Farrow & Ball large color Book + Robert Westley Gift card for $100, a Farrow & Ball Paint Bundle containing two gallons of paint, two brushes, a roller tray and sleeve, a $500 gift card to the Shade Store, as well as a Farrow & Ball large color book and $500 gift card.
Our meeting kicked off with President Jamie Namanny’s update on the exciting events coming this spring, including Wine and Design at SOCO. ASID President Elect Adriel Cogdal also presented a few unique design

February General Meeting By Cynthia Prizant Need some quick help getting a marketing brochure together? Check out fiverr.com, where you can hire a virtual assistant. Want to capture the color of an object? Get the Color Cube on palette.com/cube, and with a single tap it will digitize the color. We learned about these cool technologies and more at our February General Meeting, thanks to the CEU presentation from Laurel at Sunset. Our hosts for the evening were Sid and Marjan Bastani of Fashion Interiors. They welcomed us to their fabulous showroom, which features a gorgeous selection of their window treatment offerings. Fashion Interiors engaged Yass Catering to present a delectable array of tastes, including Beef Stroganoff, Tachin Morgh (Persian rice with saffron and chicken breast), KooKoo (a vegetable dish), Greek salad, kale salad, French olive salad, and Dolmeh (stuffed grape leaves). A lovely variety of wine and beverages were available throughout the evening.
President Jamie Namanny began the presentation by updating us on the upcoming ASID events and activities. We then had a chance to hear a few words from our Industry Partners so that we have a better understanding of their product and service offerings. Our speaker, Jeanette Chasworth, followed with a very informative presentation on how we can better use technology to grow our businesses and make our lives easier. She covered a broad range of products and applications to help with marketing, communications, organization, sales and design. We were each provided with a resource list which included many of the websites and applications for our later reference.
Following the presentation was our raffle. Marjan generously provided a multitude of fantastic prizes, including luxurious throws and signature Kate Spade home dĂŠcor items paired with $50 Nordstrom gift certificates. Many lucky and grateful attendees were thrilled with their beautiful prizes. Many thanks to our ever faithful Industry Partner, Derek Fisher, of FiberSeal, who managed the A/V for the presentation. Also, thanks to Miriam, from Fashion Interiors, for photographing the event throughout the evening.

ASID OC iDOD Hosted by JCW with Luxe Magazine By Farrah Smith, Allied ASID Another successful ASID OC iDOD meeting was held on March 1st at the beautiful Judy’s Custom Workroom in Aliso Viejo. Our gracious host, Anita Jacobi, provided a lovely buffet of assorted sandwiches, salads, and dessert along with a wine, water, and coffee bar. We were grateful to have speaker Shannon Ratcliffe, the publisher of Luxe Magazine, provide an informative presentation on getting published. She provided plenty of information that applied to her publication as well as others in the industry. Most attendees, having not been published before, enjoyed the opportunity to hear key advice about keeping our projects at a certain level of “luxury", featuring high quality products and furnishings to be able to be featured in their articles. She also said that her editors research our websites, Facebook, Instagram, Google search and Yelp before making a decision about doing a feature article on a designer. Designers can apply to be covered in an article on outdoor spaces, yoga rooms, collections of objects
of art, or a good story for a whole house or a feature space. She made a strong point about having a good website with clear imagery of our designed projects and then she recommended Tony Estrada, who designs ad pages for their Luxe clients.
Tony Estrada, of tonyontheweb.com reinforced what Shannon told us about the importance of a professional website and stated that we should always be professional with our posts because we are researched once we apply for a feature article. Your website should portray your brand as a lovely experience that will inspire a potential client to pick up the phone and call you! He also says to mention attending the March iDOD meeting to receive a discount on his design services and have a fashion-forward interior design website created.
Once again, an informative ASID OC iDOD meeting was hosted by a wonderful Industry Partner for our emerging professionals, students and design practitioners looking forward to getting published in their future. Thanks to Luxe Magazine and Anita Jacobi of JCW.
Mark your calendars for our next meeting at Emser Tile on Thursday, June 2nd, 2016.

LDC Spring Market and ASID OC Membership Meet & Greet By Michele Prata, Allied ASID
During this year’s informative, colorful and traditional Spring Market held at the Laguna Design Center, ASID-OC had an information table set up with membership brochures,a calendar of events, and questions & answers. Our President Jamie Namanny and her board members were available between speaker sets to meet and greet newcomers as well as our membership from different chapters. As usual, showrooms featured CEU’s for ASID requirements. Many of our industry partners have showrooms at LDC. We have a very supportive design community and one of our own media sponsors, Orange Coast Magazine, hosted the cocktail party at the end of the day.

SUMMER 2016 |
CA ORANGE COUNTY CHAPTER
By Barbara Keller, ASID, CID Our annual ASID Student Career Day was held Thursday, February 25th, and for the first time we gathered at Stonemill Design Center. We had great weather and attendance, with students coming from Fullerton College, Saddleback College, Orange Coast College, and the Interior Designers Institute (IDI). The morning began with a light breakfast provided by Cathy Defazio of IDS Real Estate Group. Then, students were grouped with our designer tour guides, Jamie Namanny, Adriel Cogdal, Nazgol Seyedi, and Barbara Keller. Students were able to visit all of the showrooms and learn about a wide variety of products available to designers. In addition, many of the showrooms provided materials and/or products for student resource bags. Students also received fan decks from Benjamin Moore and grout kits from Dal Tile. Students had great questions for both the showrooms and the tour guides. Following the showroom tours, we returned to the conference space graciously provided by IDS Real Estate, which also provided lunch for all participants. During lunchtime, the guest panel discussed various career paths in the interior design industry. The panel consisted of Angela Eason, general contractor and interior designer; Maria Allgood, hospitality design; Alicia Ho, product designer; Amy Creager, architect; and Brian Moyes, furniture manufacturer. The students had many questions for the panel and were delighted to have such a diverse group to question. At the end of the panel discussion and Q and A, two succulent arrangements from Allison Driscoll of Succulent Junction, San Clemente, were raffled off to students. Students indicated that they thought Stonemill Design Center was a great location, and IDS Real Estate Group and Stonemill Design Center are looking forward to hosting Career Day next year. Many thanks to all who participated (students and ASID members), and we are looking forward to next year at Stonemill.
