From our President We’ve been busy at the ASID California North Chapter over the past few months and have been working hard to make the organization a more viable benefit to all our members. Our goal is creating a lively chapter with variety of interesting events and opportunities, so that we can all join in the fun and get to know one another. In 2018 our ASID Chapter has grown; but we aren’t even close to being done. In fact, with all we have in store for you - we have only just started. In March we hosted a benefit for the Rebuild Wine Country and Habitat for Humanity Sonoma County; who’s organizations have been working hard to rebuild families lives after the devastating fires. The event at The Great Northern was well attended, as we raised money for both these organizations. From April - June we reignited the popular program of “Après Work” at Skool Restaurant. This program designed to educate and connect our young professionals about the business side of interior design, offering educational 90 min talks from local experts. Topics included a business attorney who spoke about the benefits of having a design agreement in place, photography for interior spaces and social media consultants. Aimed at both young professionals and pairing seasoned ASID industry members so both can learn from one another. Increasing our calendar of events, we offered numerous CEU’s with our Industry Partners. From Feb through May we held CEU’s at Ferguson, The Bath & Beyond, City Lights, Sherwin Williams, SFDC and Jack London Kitchen & Bath. Leading our members with meaningful tools or grow their business and keep up with new innovations, plus educating them to changes in local and state laws. Creating partnerships with showrooms is just one way that ASID CA North benefits is members. We also created cultural partnerships with local interior design non-profits San Francisco Decorators Showcase to bring our members discounted tickets for the for this year’s Showhouse. While offering special tours to student groups at a low discounted rate. In the early Fall we will partner with The American Craft Show and in October The San Francisco Fall Art & Antiques Show. Lastly, we want to make sure you all join us for our ASID Member Appreciation Party; Sponsored by Cosentino City & Zephyr. Event is June 21 at Cosentino’s SFDC Showroom - as a way to thank all of our members and IPs for their support of our Chapter. Make sure you mark your calendar because you won’t want to miss the fun. DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT
George Brazil, co-founding partner of SagreraBrazil Design; an interior design firm specializing in high end residential interiors; consists of partnership with Cecilia Sagrera-Hill. George & Cecilia joined forces after George worked with well-known design firms; Orlando Diaz Azcuy, James Marzo, and Jeffrey Werner and holds a BA degree from California State University at Sacramento, while bring a Certified Interior Designer. Their partnership over the last 15 years ago has grown their firm into a successful practice, which includes junior designers and a full design staff. Owner, lead principal while overseeing the day to day business management, George averages a 50 hour work - while working alongside Cecilia and their group talented designers. Maintianing a healthy work balance, George begins with morning rituals including Transcendental Meditation, yoga and journaling. Each Monday begins with group design team meetings, of the 8 – 10 clients they handle simultaneously. George’s role in leading while offering his expertise in years of project management, helps projects to stay on task and stay ahead of project deadlines. At the onset of each project, George spends quite a bit of time getting to know each of his clients, to fully understand their overall design goals, project timelines and expectations, plus creating a strong bond that carries each project through to completion. Depending on the project size, George’s + principal designers decide who is ultimately responsible for what portion of the project. George shared that each of the design team uses a mix of design software; AutoCAD, Vectorworks, plus manual sketching and rendering. If time and budget allow, SageraBrazil Design will provide key perspectives, renderings - painted by hand. While both versions can convey the ultimate design perspective – George still loves the luxury and drama that comes with delivering and creating hand rendered perspectives. Outside of his work George recently joined the board for The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art in San Francisco (http://www.classicist-nocal.org). His focus and board duties lie in educational programs and fundraising. George shared that if had not gone into the field of interior design he would have been an artist, a ceramicist, or even a landscape designer. Starting at an early age, George has always been a creative person, and this life-long passion has resulted in a fruitful interior design career of 25 + year. In order to maintain the current service levels and hopefully reach more seniors in need, MOWAC hosts two annual events each year, June event Taste 2018 and a October event called Wheels for Meals Ride. From these 2 amazing events donations and funds help to serve more nutritious meals to needy, frail seniors in 2018.
Due to stagnant government funding, our Meals on Wheels programs rely on private donations from individuals and foundations, along with annual event proceeds. Alameda County alone is home to over 40,000 seniors who who struggle with food insecurity due to financial hardship, a lack of a caregiver, inability to shop for groceries, and/or prepare healthy, nutritious meals.
