Rector’s Welcome Job fair with a perspective As an institution of higher education, Aalborg University is dependent upon a well-functioning business community which requires innovative students who can contribute with their knowledge and skills to companies and the business sector in general. Business enterprises, on their part, are also dependent on the university and the new qualified workforce educated here. Thus, the business community and the university are dependent on one another need each other, and therefore it is encouraging that the association DSE (Students’ Business Relations) is making a remarkable effort to establish contact between these two actors through the DSE Job Fair Aalborg. AAU in close contact with the business community During the past few years, Aalborg University has been ranked in the top three among Danish universities which jointly educate the largest number of graduates and PhDs. This means that AAU makes an important contribution to the ever increasing need of the business sector for competent and innovative employees. There are clear indications that we can continue to turn out many skilful graduates in years to come. Over the past five years, Aalborg University has seen a constant double-digit increase in application numbers for our programmes.

As Rector I am of course very proud of the university’s large progress and of the fact that we are, as mentioned previously, among the Danish universities which jointly educate the largest number of graduates and PhDs for the business sector. Through the DSE Job Fair Aalborg, DSE does not only make a remarkable effort to brand Aalborg University – the association is also a great asset for the individual student. They can benefit greatly from the association in terms of inspiration and networking, and also through the job fair, where DSE has created excellent opportunities for students to become acquainted with the country’s leading engineering firms and to establish contact to future workplaces. DSE’s Welcome Welcome to DSE Fair Aalborg 2013 Once again it is with great pleasure for DSE to welcome you all to this year’s DSE Fair in Aalborg. We hope that the fair can help provide you with a better insight into the companies that you wish to work for in the future. In most fields there are numerous different companies that you can end up working for. Sometimes it can be rather difficult to grasp them all and when it comes down to it – do we then really know exactly what the companies are working with? This is precisely what the DSE Fair can be used for. For you, as a student, it is a great opportunity to talk to all the relevant companies – the ones you already know and just as important the ones you have yet to discover. Maybe your dream position is not where you thought it would be, but instead in a company whose name you have never heard of. For most students it is not an everyday activity to come to a fair. It might therefore be difficult to know exactly what you should prepare yourself for. That, of course, is closely related to how far you are in your studies. If you have just begun your study getting a clear view of the many companies relevant to you may be what you should spend your time on. In this catalogue you can see which companies are relevant to your field. Take the time to read about them and when the fair opens have a talk with the company representatives about what they work with.
On the contrary, if you are almost done with your education, the fair is a good place to start looking for your future employer. Make sure to consider exactly which companies you find interesting and then read about them in the catalogue as well as on the internet. Furthermore, it is wise to have prepared a series of questions that you would like to ask the companies of your interest, so that you are fully aware of what you wish to achieve through the fair, whether it is a job position, trainee program or something else. You can read more about how you can prepare yourself better for the fair on the following pages. Guide: Before the Fair DSE Fair Aalborg provides the perfect framework for obtaining information on the specific companies of your interest who might become your future employer. At the fair you have the opportunity to get valuable connections in the business world, which may help you in future project work and job seeking. To maximize the benefits of your visit to the fair, we would like to provide you with some tips. Read the following and spend some time on preparation and you will be well suited for two fruitful days at the fair. Concentrate on a subset of companies To avoid running out of steam before you reach the companies you find more interesting, we recommend that you choose about ten companies and visit those while you are still full of energy. Be selective! You can always visit other interesting companies later, but start with “your own” companies. Describe your ideal future How should your career develop? Spend some time figuring out which skills you wish to attain through your studies and job. Imagine how you want your career to look like one year after graduation – what should you do to achieve this? This mindset provides a solid basis for your talks with the companies. This way you will be able to thoroughly discuss your thoughts and ideas with the companies.

Prepare a checklist Next prepare a checklist of questions you want to ask your chosen companies. This way you are certain to get your questions answered. Subjects may include: How are new employees introduced? What is the company staff policy? How are jobs scheduled? Is it primarily project work? What about research and development? Career options? Explore the websites Explore the websites of your chosen companies to obtain basic information about the company, thus providing you with the basis for a thorough conversation. You can find the websites in this catalogue.
Guide: During the Fair Bring your CV and job application Bring your CV! This shows that you have thought about your job application and that you are serious about your interest in the company. It may be a good idea to bring a short unsolicited job application. It may be advantageous for you to submit an application at the fair or immediately after, this way the company representatives still remember you. If the company refuses to accept your submission at the fair, do not despair. Most likely they want to be certain that your application is not lost in the commotion during the fair. Instead ask for a website or email address for a specific person to whom you can send you application and CV.
Attend a company presentation We strongly recommend attending one or more of the exciting presentations held by some of the participating companies. In 30 minutes, the company provides you with a focused look into the organisation and current projects. You will have lots of opportunities to ask in-depth questions. You will find a complete list of presentations on pages 32-37.
CV photo Do you need a picture on your CV? Again this year, DSE Fair Aalborg offers a unique opportunity to have your CV photo taken. You have probably tried it before: You have the perfect CV and would like a picture to complete it, but you have no representative images at hand. Find the stand of Japan Photo, they will be ready with the equipment to complete your CV. With the photo on the CV, no eyebrows will be raised at the interview. The digital photo is of course completely free of charge. Check out job offers at the Job Bank Are you close to graduating, looking for a student job, or do you want to know more about the job positions available at the moment, then stop by the Job Bank as a part of your fair experience.

ESKILD EBBESEN ESKILD EBBESEN Eskild Ebbesen er er uddannet idrætsfysiolog, men er bedre kendt som roer i Guldfireren. Han er en vaskeægte vinder; som roer har han vundet imponerende fem OL-medaljer og otte VM-medaljer. Udover det, er han bl.a. uddannet kognitiv coach og foredragsholder i performance og samarbejde.

Anammox – en kompakt teknologi Med nye teknologier i form af lukkede og kompakte løsninger er det muligt at forvandle renseanlæg til bioraffinaderier, der gør affald til en ressource og sikrer forsyningerne økonomiske og energimæssige fordele. En af teknologierne er MBBR-teknologi kombineret med anammox-processen, som reducerer kvælstofbelastningen med op til 15 %. Processen forløber under anerobe forhold og høj temperatur.

Verdens mest tilgængelige kontorhus NCC har som totalentreprenør bygget verdens mest tilgængelige kontorhus i tæt samarbejde med Danske Handicaporganisationer. Både projekteringen, produktionen på byggepladsen og processen har været lærerig for alle. Handicapgrupperne havde mange specifikke og ofte modsatrettede funktionskrav, og byggeriets succes skyldes derfor især tidlig inddragelse af viden fra byggebranchen og husets brugere. Huset der blev indviet i december 2012 har givet genlyd i hele verden.

When Rune started working as an IT-consultant he looked forward to the new challenges, but was somewhat concerned about the workload. - When I started at Accenture, I was recruited directly from University. I had heard horror stories about the workload in consulting firms and was worried about how my life was going to change. These worries soon disappeared,

Virksomheden GEO er en rådgivende ingeniørvirksomhed, der tilbyder Danmarks mest omfattende ekspertise inden for jord og vand. Vi arbejder både til lands og til vands og løser komplekse opgaver inden for geoteknik, energi, vandforsyning og miljø. GEO leverer den komplette undersøgelse – fra feltarbejdet, over laboratorium og modelberegninger – til den færdige rapport. Rådgivning og alle typer boringer udføres, samt geotekniske -, grundvands- og miljøundersøgelser, havbundsundersøgelser og laboratoriearbejde. Ingeniørens arbejdsområder Som ingeniør i GEO løser du både store og små opgaver. Opgaverne omfatter fx geotekniske undersøgelser, beregninger, undersøgelser af forurenet jord og grund-
vand, kerneboringer, afdækning af grundvandsressourcer og havbundsundersøgelser for havmølleparker. Du kommer til at arbejde med en spændende blanding af rådgivning, feltarbejde, laboratorieundersøgelser og rapportering, og er derfor med i de fleste processer. Det giver udfordringer, afveksling og ansvar. GEOs ingeniører videreuddannes, så de får de nødvendige kompetencer til at arbejde og udvikle sig i en projektorienteret organisation med stor frihed og indflydelse på egen hverdag. Tilbud til studerende GEO beskæftiger 2–4 studerende i vores laboratorium og i marken. Vi tilbyder også ingeniørpraktik og fungerer som vejledere for eksamensprojekter, hvor forskningsfaciliteter stilles til rådighed.

THULE AIR BASE – en international arbejdsplads i Grønland
I det nordvestlige hjørne af menneskenes land, Kalaallit Nunaat, etablerede Knud Rasmussen og Peter Freuchen i 1910 handelsstationen Thule i bygden ved foden af det karakteristiske Dundas fjeld. På den modsatte side af bugten North Star Bay ligger i dag den amerikanske luftbase, Thule Air Base. Etableringen af basen i 1951 var et resultat af den kolde krigs udbrud; i dag er grundlaget for basens tilstedeværelse og mission væsentligt mere fredelig. Siden 1971 har Greenland Contractors arbejdet som drifts- og service entreprenør for US Air Force på basen, og i dag varetager vi alle serviceopgaver, logistik, drift m.v. som sikrer, at det lille samfund kan eksistere ved egen hjælp. Greenland Contractors er et interessentskab bestående af den danske bygge- og anlægsvirksomhed MT Højgaard A/S og det Grønlandske Selvstyre. Virksomhedens mange kompetente medarbejdere står bl.a. for forsyning af vand, kraft og varme, gør rent og laver mad til basens beboere, reparerer køretøjer, driver skibshavn og lufthavn, vedligeholder vejnet, bygninger og tekniske installationer, IT og kommunikationssystemer, hospital, brandvæsen, fritidstilbud m.m. Det arbejde, vi udfører for US Air Force, sker efter GC’s kvalitets-, miljø og arbejdsmiljø standarder. Dette medfører, at der er konstant fokus på kvalitet i arbejdet, på medarbejdernes sikkerhed, på at miljøet belastes minimalt af aktiviteterne, og på at der værnes om de historiske og natur værdier i området.

Virksomheden Greenland Contractors er et interessentskab bestående af den danske bygge- og anlægsvirksomhed MT Højgaard A/S og det Grønlandske Selvstyre. Vi udfører service, drift og vedligehold på Thule Air Base i Grønland for US Air Force. Det er vores opgave at drive Thule Air Base og alle de støttefunktioner, der er nødvendige for det lille samfund. Det gælder infrastrukturen, elproduktion, sundhedsvæsen, boliger, fritids- og sportsaktiviteter, kantinedrift osv. Ingeniørens arbejdsområder Hovedparten af vores ingeniører er ansat i Engineering, der kan sidestilles med en teknisk forvaltning med en ingeniørafdeling, en projekt- og ejendomsforvaltning, en miljøafdeling, samt en arbejdsmiljøafdeling.
Som ingeniør kommer du til at arbejde tæt sammen med vores øvrige afdelinger både i projekterings- og udførelsesfasen. The location with the size of around 10,000 sqm, is placed on the beautiful Danish island Als near the German border and has about 200 employees – engineers, skilled and unskilled workers, IT, purchase, finance, HR and marketing specialists. The additional product portfolio consis-ting of magnetic and ultrasonic flowmeters, are produced/ manufactured in Haguenau (France), Dalian (China) and Springhouse (USA), whereas the ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeters are developed and promoted from Hauppauge (USA).
Our products are used for very accurate dosing and measurements of all kinds of liquids and gases – primarily within the water & waste water, food & beverage, chemical, pharmacy as well as the oil & gas industry – thus a.o. giving potato chips, Coca-Cola, beer or yogurt the right flavour or ensuring that you just pay for your exact water consumption. This corresponds to 5 % of Denmark’s total public road network of almost 75,000 km. Almost half of all traffic in Denmark uses the State road network, every day, all year round.
To ensure a cohesive and well-designed infrastructure, the Danish Road Directorate cooperates with a large number of authorities, and especially with the rest of the Danish road sector and the municipalities.

AAU Matchmaking is Aalborg University’s outreach office, which matches smaller and medium sized enterprises (SME’s) in Northern Denmark with researchers within their field of business for mutual benefit. Studentersamfundet Studentersamfundet er foreningen for dig som studerende på Aalborg Universitet. Vi kæmper gennem sociale og politiske aktiviteter for at gøre Aalborg Universitet til et stadigt bedre sted at studere. Gennem Uddannelsespolitisk Forum bliver de politiske diskussioner omhandlende studenterpolitiske spørgsmål på alle niveauer behandlet, og alle får lov at komme til orde i de politiske diskussioner. I Fagrådene behandles de diskussioner som kun omhandler et enkelt fakultet, samt der sker erfaringsudveksling mellem de frivillige fremmødte. På den sociale side, står Studentersamfundet for ni barer på Aalborg Universitets campusser, otte i Aalborg og en i København. Studenterhuset Studenterhuset ligger på Gammel Torv 10. Nærmere centrum kan man ikke komme rent geografisk. Det er her på Gammel Torv studietiden i Aalborg begynder med morgenmad og fællessang under kyndig vejledning af Studenterpræsten og Co. Det er også her, et nyt liv kan begynde at gro. Efter at have rykket teltpælene op og flyttet til Aalborg kan det være svært at finde fodfæstet uden de gamle venner, uden skakklubben, mors varme mad og fars gratis avis. Provinsen kan virke lige så

Vi er en samling af primært ingeniører og ingeniørstuderende der sammen arbejder på at bruge vores faglighed til at gøre en forskel for mennesker der har brug for hjælp. Når problemerne skal løses har vi brug for personer med mange forskellige fagligheder og der er derfor intet krav til at vores frivillige skal være ingeniører.

UNF UNF er en forening, hvis formål er at fremme interessen for naturvidenskab, teknologi og medicin, fortrinsvis blandt unge. Dette sker via en række naturvidenskabelige aktiviteter for unge afholdt af unge. Arrangørerne er frivillige og består hovedsagligt af gymnasie- og universitets studerende. I lokalforeningerne arrangeres der bl.a. foredrag, videnskabelige debatter og studieture. UNF er desuden nordens største udbyder af sommerskoler, og disse såkaldte ScienceCamps tilbyder en uge med spændende undervisning og sociale aktiviteter.

Disse camps afholdes typisk over en uge på et af de danske universiteter, som stiller lokaler og undervisere til rådighed. UNF har også arrangeret udenlandske studieture til steder som CERN, ESA og NASA.
UBVA/RA Det er ikke kun færdiguddannede akademikere der render ind i problemer med ophavsret, patentret, designret og varemærkeret. Det gør mange studerende også.
Det er ofte rigtig svært at vide hvad man må og ikke må. De digitale muligheder gør det ikke mindre kompliceret. Fx er forskerkarrierer lagt i ruiner, fordi forskerne ikke vidste bedre.
Det ved UBVA meget om. Vi er eksperter på disse felter og støtter AC-organisationerne, når medlemmerne har brug for hjælp: Det kan være når deres rettigheder er krænket eller fordi man er usikker på om man gør det rigtige.
Få mere at vide om ophavsret og patentret, m.m. Så er du bedre rustet når du har begået noget genialt eller du vil bruge andres materiale. Kom og hør mere, bl.a. om hvor du kan hente information og hjælp. Vi har vores stand i Foyer lige efter hovedindgangen.

IMCC er en landsdækkende almennyttig organisation, der består af studerende der har lyst til at lave frivilligt sundhedsrelateret arbejde. I IMCC laver vi bl.a. internationale partnerbaserede udviklingsprojekter, internationale møder og konferencer, undervisning af børn og unge, sundhedskampagner, udvekslingsophold af sundhedsfaglige studerende og skaber rum og mulighed for samarbejde og socialt samvær på tværs af lande og kommunegrænser.
