DSE - Facilitating contact between industry and students promotion material
Who are we at DSE? DSE is an abbreviation for De Studerendes Erhvervskontakt (Students Business Relations). DSE is a self-sustaining, independent, and apolitical organization. We work to establish a dialogue between engineering students and employers. DSE is an organization run by students on a purely voluntary basis, organizing the DSE events in their spare time. DSE is organized into two offices, one at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), in
2
Kgs. Lyngby (close to Copenhagen) and the other at Aalborg University (AAU), Jutland. As DSE is operated by students, we have a unique position to maintain and update knowledge about changes and developments in the respective engineering fields and hereby educational opportunities.
Why participate in a DSE event? Participating in DSE events gives you an opportunity to present your company to engineering students from all over Denmark as well as from Lund University in Southern Sweden. This gives you an opportunity to establish personal contact with relevant students for an internship, a bachelor proj-
ect or master thesis, and employment. Students participate in the DSE events for guidance concerning future career, educational opportunities, and to meet with people from leading companies hiring engineers.
Partnerships For several years now DSE has cooperated with Mediehuset Ingeniøren. DSE Fair Jobtræf Aalborg is a joint venture between DSE and Ingeniøren. This cooperation provides you additional visibility and makes your participation in DSE events known to the engineering community, as well as the students, through the magazine Ingeniøren. DSE also collaborates with the Students’ Council at the six engineering colleges in Denmark. This collaboration provides additional possibilities to make your company visible and known to engineering students across the entire country. To promote our events in the Øresund region we collaborate with ArmU at Lund Institute of Technology in Sweden. ArmU organizes a career fair, ARKAD. This cooperation with ArmU makes DSE and DSE events known to Swedish engineering students. As a result, when you participate in a DSE event, your company is also promoted to those Swedish students. 3
Marketing through DSE Attending a DSE event, whether it is our fairs, FokusAften, or Pejling, you can be sure that your company is being profiled to engineering students from Aalborg University, the Technical University of Denmark, the six engineering colleges in Denmark, and Lund Institute of Technology in southern Sweden. DSE publishes information material for each event. Our catalogues are printed in large quantity and are distributed free of charge to all relevant students. In the catalogues each company is provided
4
with space for a one page presentation and a one page advertisement, placed on facing pages. When participating in a DSE event, companies are informed about catalogue format and layout requirements in due time by DSE members. Before an event, DSE launches a large PR-campaign towards the students. As part of this campaign several different PR-events are arranged to promote the DSE event. The PR-events are designed to make the students even more aware of the possibilities when participation in a DSE event.
DSE Fairs DSE organizes two fairs, one at DTU in spring and one at AAU in fall. Each fair has a two day duration. At the DSE fair you have the opportunity to present your company to the engineering students in several ways: Through personal interviews
with students, an oral presentation of your company, and most importantly, the informal chat with the students at your fair stand. Last year (fall 2008 - spring 2009) almost 10,000 engineering students visited our fairs.
DSE FokusAften
FA
DSE organizes approximately 60 company presentations each year. FokusAften is an evening in which your company has the unique possibility to present itself to interested engineering students. FokusAften takes place at DTU or AAU. DSE advertizes the event and organizes registration, whereas you decide the form and content
of your session with regards to the general subject of the evening. DSE FokusAften is the event which gives you the best opportunity to manage and control how the students perceive your company.
DSE Pejling Each year DSE publishes a handbook about the engineering companies, called DSE Pejling. DSE Pejling is a reference book for the engineering students with focus on the companies employing engineers. The handbook consists of general business information, information about employment as an engineer in your firm, and the possibility of advertising exact offers for the students. DSE Pejling is
printed in 10.000 copies and available for engineering students in Denmark and at Lund Institute of Technology. In addition, DSE Pejling is also available online at www.pejling.dk. DSE Pejling offers your company year round visibility for students.

What is a DSE Fair? The DSE Fair is a job and career fair at the Danish Technical University, DTU in Kgs. Lyngby and at Aalborg University, AAU. The fairs are primarily aimed at engineering students, which is different from other job and career fairs that typically have a much broader focus. At the fairs you will get faceto-face contact with newly educated engineers and engineering students. DSE Messe Lyngby takes place on DTU campus (close to Copenhagen) at the main building. DSE Messe Jobtræf Aalborg takes place in Gigantium Sports- and Cultural Centre Aalborg located near Aalborg University campus, Jutland.
At a DSE Fair you can: • Get in contact with engineering candidates. • Get a dialogue with interested engineering students, using the DSE Fair to help plan their future education and career. • Attract competent engineering students from all over the country to do their projects or thesis at your company. • Provide information about your company to the engineering students. • Give an oral presentation of your company to interested students.
Personal interviews If you wish, you can give students the opportunity for a personal interview with one of your representatives. The student chooses the subject for the interview when signing up. Typical subjects are project possibilities, interest in specific company departments, and job opportunities. Students who sign up for a personal interview are well prepared
6
to meet your representative, which facilitates the dialogue between the student and your company resulting in a much more focused discussion.
The participation fee includes • A stand at the fair (incl. electrical installations and Internet connection). • Opportunity for an oral presentation of your company (limited number). • A one page profile of your company in the Fair-catalogue distributed free to all interested engineering students in Denmark. • One page available for advertisement in the catalogue. • Exposure to everybody on www.studerende.dk. • PR towards engineering students through the catalogue and e.g. posters, banners, events, or postcards. • Morning and lunch buffet is available to your representatives during the fair. Beverages are delivered to your stand. • Two tickets for an informal event Wednesday evening.

Approx. 7,700 people visiting 3,700 m2 floor space Centrally located by main building DTU. The 20th fair in 2010
In 2008 we expanded the fair area to include the student house in the main building (S-Huset), we have received a lot of positive statements about this area the last two years, so we have chosen to include this area again in 2010. In 2010 we will try out a different tent solution than the last year. The tent has a plane floor and offers suitable temperature conditions. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee the exact same conditions in the tent as in the indoor areas. Therefore, please notice that the price for a stand is differentiated in regard to placement, e.g. corner stand (two open sides towards the walking areas), tent stand. What is DSE FokusAften? Fokusaften is a rather new concept within company presentations and is based on the VP Lyngby concept from the fall of 2007. Due to positive feedback from students and companies and a great support from registered companies for the FokusAften planning this fall, we now only offer the FokusAften and not the traditional company presentations in Lyngby and Aalborg. The concept has been applied twice before at DTU with a great turnout and will be run for the first time at AAU in spring of 2010. ”We presented ourselves for twice as many students as with the former VP concept.” Lars Bækgaard, Widex A/S Schedule for a FokusAften A typical FokusAften commences with a quick introduction of the companies for the benefit of the students. This is followed by two one-hour sessions separated by a break where DSE supplies fruit, water, and soft drinks. This allows for students to gain knowledge about two out of the four companies. The evening concludes with a casual standing buffet allowing for students and business representatives to socialize. In comparison to the DSE Fair, which gives students an all-round and broad overview of the many different companies, DSE FokusAften focuses on a
10
few companies in a specific business area, thereby giving the students a better insight into the company and the specific engineering jobs. This creates a stronger connection between the students and the companies with the same professional interest. DSE FokusAften offers The FokusAften concept offers the participating companies the opportunity to present themselves to students with specific focus on their field of study. However, keep in mind that you as a company should use this evening to tell the students what kind of competencies you seek. The presentation at a FokusAften can be a lecture, a workshop, or other activities, this is completely up to the company to decide. It is expected that the presentation is focused on a specific field of study. • A presentation is approximately one hour. • As a company you get the chance to get in touch with engineering students with the specific competencies that you are seeking. • Get a good opportunity to present your company to students, in your own way. • Get a chance to show the students new aspects of your company. • Provide focused knowledge about your company to the interested students.
Facts about FokusAften • A maximum of 4 participating companies during one evening. • In Lyngby, an average of 77 students attended each FokusAften in 2008 with a maximum of 108 students at the most visited FokusAften. • 35 companies attended FokusAften Lyngby in 2008. • Since the concept change, there has been a 46% increase in company presentations. • A FokusAften starts at 17.30 and lasts around three hours. • A FokusAften proceeds at a location where the students, within the specific field, study on a daily basis. • The event is free of charge to all engineering students. • Each company is given two pages in the FokusAften catalogue, one for company information and one for a company advertisement. • Extensive PR directed towards engineering students through e.g. posters, banners, events, Facebook, etc.

FokusAften registration For the year 2010, the registration procedure for FokusAften has been altered. The product which your company can purchase is the opportunity to present your company on one field specific evening, e.g: Production, Civil, Chemistry and Environmental, Construction and Architecture, Product Development, Biotech, Medicine, and Food, Management and Consulting and IT and Informatics. Please visit www.studerende.dk to see the exact names of the evenings. Registration is based on the “first come, first served principle. A FokusAften is considered fully booked once four companies have registered for one evening. However, if three or more companies register on the waiting list for a fully booked evening, another FokusAften will be arranged. Therefore, if the evening you are interested in is fully booked, do not hesitate to register on the waiting 12
list. In case one or more evenings are not fully booked we will reassign companies to evenings attended by students with a relevant background, for the benefit of the students and the companies. Companies, which are relevant for more than one field of study, are of course allowed to participate in more than one evening by purchasing slots for different evenings. FokusAften at AAU is held during the week from Monday to Thursday in weeks 9-11. FokusAften at DTU is held during the week from Monday to Thursday in weeks 38-41.
Pricing In order to maintain the high quality of the previous FokusAftens there has been an increase in expenses. Since it is the first time FokusAften is offered at AAU, the prices are differentiated. Aalborg (AAU): Cancellation deadline: 1st of December, 2009 Participation fee is 12,500 DKK excl. VAT
Lyngby (DTU): Cancellation deadline: 1st of July, 2010 Participation fee is 15,000 DKK excl. VAT

What is DSE Pejling? DSE Pejling is a reference book intended to give engineering students a place to find a wide range of information on companies employing engineers. DSE Pejling typically contains a short description of your company and facts about employed engineers. Furthermore, it gives you a place to tell students about the possibility for collaboration with your company on individually designed projects or internships.
With DSE Pejling you will be able to: • Present your company as you want, directly to all engineering students in Denmark. • Have your company profile visible at engineering campuses all year round. • Display what opportunities your company can offer students, e.g. internships or individually designed projects.
DSE Pejling also contains articles on job application, careers, and interviews with newly employed engineers, sharing their experience on applying for a job and their first employment.
How will your company be presented in DSE Pejling? The reference book In DSE Pejling your company will be displayed on two facing pages. On the left page a presentation of your company is printed and on the right page an advertisement for your company is printed. The left page layout is based on the material gathered by DSE. The advertisement on the right page is your responsibility. The page can be used for an advertisement, statements about your company, description of a typical engineers work, etc.
14
To many engineering students, DSE Pejling is an indispensable reference book for relevant information on projects, internships, or job applications. The website The Internet version will have a page presenting the information from the left page in the DSE Pejling reference book and a link to your company’s homepage.
Additional information Publishing DSE Pejling is published during spring. The book is free of charge and 10.000 copies are distributed to engineering students at Aalborg University, the Technical University of Denmark, the six engineering colleges in Denmark and Lund Institute of Technology.
