Introduction

What is Focus Night Focus Night, also known as Fokusaften, is a series of mini career fairs that run over the course of two weeks. Every Focus Night has a specific theme, each one focusing on a specific area of engineering. Every evening features two to five companies. Each company holds two presentations of a duration of one hour. Each student attends two company presentations. After the two presentations, there is a buffet, where there is time to talk to the companies individually in an informal setting. The event is absolutely free for students.

The companies really want to learn about you, and they hope to meet new candidates for jobs, university projects, student jobs and internships. We encourage all job and project seeking students to bring their CV’s and project ideas to the event, as there should be sufficient time to talk to a company representative. Your next project or thesis could start here!

Even if you are not currently looking for a job or an internship, you are more than welcome to attend Focus Night. The attending companies want to spark your interest as a student, and they welcome students from all different stages of their education. If you want to learn about the daily life of an engineer, and the kind of projects that engineers work with, Focus Night is ideal for you.

The informal buffet at the end ensures that there is a good opportunity to talk to company representatives, and ask specific questions. Be prepared Focus Night could be the next stepping stone of your career, possibly leading to a job, internship or perhaps a master thesis. To make the most of Focus Night, it is essential that you are prepared. The participating companies offer many different opportunities for you as a student. The opportunies vary from company to company, and they are included in the facts box for each company. The following is a list of opportunities that the companies offer: • Full-time job • Part-time job • Student job • Internship • Summer internship • School project • Bachelor thesis • Master thesis • Working abroad

We encourage all students that have an interest in any of the mentioned opportunities to be prepared by doing the following: • Bring your CV and your grade sheet. A CV and a grade sheet give a quick overview of your capabilities and experiences along with your academic performance. There is a great section in Pejling 2011/2012 about writing a good CV. The catalog is available in the DSE catalog stands. • Read about the companies in this catalog. Having knowledge of a company means that the company sees you as well prepared and seri ous. It is much better to ask questions that are on a higher level than “uhm.. so what do you do?”. • Bring a page about your project or thesis idea. If you are interested in doing a project or thesis with a com pany, it is a great idea to bring a short project description (preferably along with a CV and grade transcript). • Bring your questions to Focus Night. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You can use the note pages in the back of this catalog to write them down.

This checklist is merely a guide for you as a student to make an impression on the company representatives. The most important thing to do however is to be interested! Engage yourself in the presentation, be attentive and ask plenty of questions. Focus Night is for everyone, and being well prepared is by no means a prerequisite for attending the event. Focus Night is arranged by DSE (De Studerendes Erhverskontakt), which is an entirely voluntary student organisation with around 100 members, divided between two divisions. One at the Technical University of Denmark and one at Aalborg University. Most of the members are engineering students. As an organisation DSE offers you a lot of benefits and challenges during your education. As a member you can meet representatives from leading engineering companies, which will help you establish a professional network. As a member of DSE, you have an abundance of opportunities to experience planning and management of major events hands on. With 130–150 participating companies and organisations, the DSE fair is the largest career fair in Denmark. Completely organised and conducted by just under 50 members. These are just some of the things DSE can offer you. If you are more into accounting

or sales, there are plenty of possibilities to gain substantial experience within the organisation. Are you creative? Do you want to make events for career fairs, or make catchy posters? At DSE we are very open to new ideas, and we have a large budget that can help turn creative ideas into reality. At DSE you can learn about marketing in a first hand approach. DSE advertises for its fairs and events through its website, catalogs and through publicity events. But DSE is not only an organisation that can benefit your career. Vi var i forvejen leverandør og udvikler af Falcks forretningssystem og havde derfor en tung viden om den bagvedliggende infrastruktur. Som et andet eksempel på vores arbejde, så har vi hjulpet Folketinget med at indføre grundlæggende enterprise arkitektur. Sammen med Folketingets administrative afdelinger har vi afdækket Folketingets fremadrettet forretningskrav, og været ansvarlig for at udarbejde Folketingets nye it-arkitekturplan, hvilket i dag danner rammerne for hvordan Folketingets it-afdeling udvælger.
