DAVID TAGGART CLUB MANAGER, DUBAI CREEK GOLF & YACHT CLUB
Happy New Year from The Creek in what is our 30th Anniversary year! It is in fact our ‘Pearl’ anniversary which given the history of Dubai and the Creek, is very fitting. We will kick off celebrations with our 30th Anniversary member’s party on the 24th January and will take the opportunity to recognize our founding members and loyal colleagues before we let the band and the beverages work their magic.
There will be a number of activations across the resort this year to mark the occasion, which will be announced in due course.
CAPTAINS
It is a testament to the club that one of our founding members will be our Men’s Club Captain this year. Gene Cha is one of life’s true gentleman and we are excited to assist him in more deeply integrating our thriving Korean membership into the club.
He also has plans for a very eagerly anticipated Captains trip to Jeju Island, which I have no doubt will be heavily oversubscribed. Gene will be joined by this years Lady Captain - Shiba Wahid. Shiba has been a prolific golfer in recent years and I am sure there
will be more than a few fellow competitors hoping that Captains duties will slow her down, at least for 12 months.
Gene and Shiba will be supported by Mens and Womens Vice Captains – Kevin Savage and Janet Kim. Kevin and the Savage family have been loyal contributors to the atmosphere of the Creek and we are in no doubt it will be a lively year in 2024 under his stewardship. In the year of her Vice Captaincy and Captaincy Janet will continue our recent tradition of excellent lady golfers and we hope we can help facilitate, through Janets warm personality, a similar integration of the Korean ladies with the wider club. Yashvir Anand will be our Junior Captain and by all accounts is delighted to have been asked.
We wish you all the very best of luck and thank you for your service to the club!
Thank you also to our outgoing captains – Max Burrow and Beatrice Galleppini on a fantastic year. Following his final speech of the year at the Captains Dinner, max looked quite satisfied with the honour of being the Creeks youngest ever Men’s Captain.

GOLF COURSE ETIQUETTE
A quick note on golf course Etiquette that has been requested by a number of members. Please repair your pitchmarks.
With the golf season in full swing golf courses across the city are busy and as a result the greens are taking a lot of traffic. The marshalling teams and golf course maintenance teams are themselves making this a particular point of focus but the most effective way to alleviate the issue is for players to repair their pitchmark and one more on each green. This will ensure the groups behind you play on an undamaged surface.
ONZE RESTAURANT
The chic new venue in the space that used to house the Legends restaurant is now fully operational and offering daily post round sundowners for 150AED from 5 till 8 that and 15% discount for all Dubai Creek members. The Japanese/Peruvian cuisine is prepared and served by an expert team sourced from Dubai’s best restaurants.
PADEL TENNIS
Irene Gessa our Padel Tennis coach is launching a Padel League at the end of January. Interested pairs can register with our Academy team.

PARKING
Emirates Golf Club Member parking will be complimentary and located on the Faldo Course. Please note, you will enter the club using the first right turn after the main entrance and be directed to car park D on the Faldo Course. All non-Emirates Golf Club members will be charged a parking fee which will be donated to the Championship Sustainability Initiative.
As parking spaces are limited, all spectators are encouraged to arrive by public transport. This year the tournament organisers have been working with Dubai Metro to provide the best park and ride options. The following metro stations offer free parking, so you are able to drive there, park your car for free and hop on the metro to get to Al Khail Metro Station, right at the entrance of the Club:
• Centrepoint Metro Station
• Etisalat Metro Station
• Jabal Ali Station
MEMBERS’ WRIST BANDING
Access to the Clubhouse for the tournament will be controlled with wristbands. All members and their guests will be required to report to the wrist-banding checkpoint at the main entrance to the venue or the 1st tee hut near the main putting green with their tickets to be wrist banded. By doing this, we are better able to control access and safety of the guests to the Clubhouse.
MEMBERS’ GUEST TICKETS
Emirates Golf Club members will be entitled to purchase two guest tickets per membership at AED 50 for a day pass. These will be available for purchase through the membership team from 9th January.
Please note Jones the Grocer, Members Lounge, Spike Bar and decked terrace (overlooking the pool) will be available to all members and guests with clubhouse access.
EMIRATES GOLF CLUB MEMBERS 16TH GREEN VIEWING DECK
I am delighted to announce that Falcon (Promoters and Organizers of HDDC) have been collaborating with the club to provide a viewing deck for our members on the back of the 16th Green.
Due to the capacity of this area, access will be for Emirates Golf Club members only and a further access wristband can be collected from the 1st tee starter hut or membership services. We have also taken the initiative to link the clubhouse directly to this deck through an access bridge adjacent to the swimming pool.
TOPGOLF DECK AT THE 16TH HOLE
The championship organizers in conjunction with Topgolf Dubai will create an amphitheater arena surrounding the 16th Green. The Topgolf public viewing area will provide food and beverage in addition to a large screen so patrons can follow the action throughout the day. Note; the Emirates Golf Club members viewing private deck described above will form part of this amphitheater set-up.
BAG STORAGE
In order to facilitate bag storage facilities for the tournament players, we would kindly request that members with bags in the Bag Storage remove them by Friday 20th January. Bags still in the Bag Storage on that date will be removed and stored by the Club.
8 EMIRATES GOLF CLUB
LOCKERS
Once again, we will be requesting lockers from some members in the men’s locker room and will be advising those people shortly. If your locker is requested, we would be grateful if you could arrange for it to be cleared by Friday 20th January, you will, however, have access to and use of the locker rooms until Sunday 22nd January.
FITLAB
The swimming pool, gym, Squash, fitness classes, Up & Running and Roseleaf Café will be closed from Monday 23rd January, re-opening on Monday 30th January.
Tennis | Open from 19:00 - 22:00 daily.
Padel Tennis | Open from 17:00 – 23:00 daily.
SensAsia Urban Spa will be open during the tournament week but only after 18:30 daily.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
We would request that members settle their food and beverage accounts on the spot through Viya rather than running ‘tabs’ due to the large numbers of members at the club, this ensures no mistakes are made with your billing. Members’ signing privileges and discounts will still apply in the Clubhouse.
Due to the tournament, there will be no theme nights staged at the club including Cheese, Grape and Jazz night on Friday 27th January. Please also note that Carine restaurant will be open during the tournament week as above and normal dinner operations will commence from 19:30 daily.
The Royal Majlis, adjacent to the 8th Green, will also serve beverages throughout the four tournament days (26th – 29th January).
TOPGOLF DUBAI
Topgolf Dubai will be open during the week of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. For bookings and information during the week please refer to www.topgolfdubai.ae. Normal Topgolf operations commence from 18:00 each day.
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
Please be advised that during the tournament, traffic leaving Emirates Golf Club will not be permitted to turn left when leaving the main gate. This is a directive from the RTA and Dubai Police to ensure that traffic congestion is kept to a minimum. The above will also affect residents exiting the villa gate past the 10th hole on the Faldo course, who will also be unable to turn left.
This will be effective from 17:00 - 19:00 on Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th January.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your cooperation and assistance in the hosting of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and wish all of you an enjoyable tournament.
Warm Regards, Barney Coleman Club Manager, Emirates Golf Club

TOMMY FLEETWOOD ACADEMY (TFA)
In late November, we were delighted to open the new Tommy Fleetwood Academy. The outside playing areas have undergone a wonderful transformation and now offer world class conditions for practice. Additionally, significant investment was to improve the swing studios and technology to ensure our coaches are fully equipped to help you improve your golf and enjoy the game more.
All JGE members have the option to add-on the TFA annual pass to their membership. I highly recommend you do this, as it will certainly help you improve your game and enjoy it a great deal more. For more information, please contact the team at the Academy.

Dear Members,
Happy new year! I very much hope that 2023 is a year that brings you and your family happiness and prosperity. On the golf front, I wish that your drives soar long and straight, your iron shots pepper the flagsticks, and that your putts drop into the cup with ease!
November and December 2022, were very possibly the busiest months ever at Jumeirah Golf Estates. The 14th edition of the DP World Tour Championship was a great success, with
record crowds of nearly 70,000 spectators attending over the four tournament days. The best players in the world were hugely complimentary of the Earth course, many saying it was the best conditions they have seen here. Congratulations to our two worthy Champions, Jon Rahm who won a record third DP World Tour Championship, and World Number 1 Rory McIlroy who secured the DP World Tour Rankings for a fourth time.
FIFA WORLD CUP
The Crafty Fox Fan Zone proved an extremely popular venue for our members to watch the World Cup live from Qatar. I hope that you have enjoyed the amazing atmosphere at the new addition and many congratulations to the fans of Argentina on their epic victory.

FESTIVE EVENTS
Thank you to all the families who attended the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. It was a lovely evening and a special thanks must go to the children from the community who entertained us all with their wonderful singing and dancing, and of course to Santa Claus who made a special appearance! The Christmas Day Brunch was also a big hit, as was the Boxing Day quiz. For the New Year’s Eve Party, the event location was changed to ensure we could host the 700 members and guests who wishes to attend. The new venue set between the clubhouse and driving range worked extremely well and the feedback was extremely positive. We will develop this area further in 2023 and aim to host 1000 people for the party at the end of this year which will be even better!
CAPTAINS’ DAY
Our inaugural Captains’ Day took place on Sunday 11th December with over 200 members playing across both courses. It was a fitting end to a wonderful year, and I would like to thank Steve Drake and Sheila McIlroy for their outstanding contribution to the Club over the past 14 months.

NEW CLUB CAPTAINS
We are delighted to welcome Evelyn Downham and Jonathan Hall as our new Club Captains for 2023. Both Ev and Jonny are long term members of the Club and have made a significant impact in their role in the Members’ Consultative Committee.
In December we were also happy to announce that the new Vice-Captains for 2022 are another pair of long-term Members, Anna Rafferty and Noel O’Leary. I would like to thank Anna and Noel for accepting our invitation and I am certain they will make a valuable contribution in supporting Ev and Jonny in the coming year, so that we can continue to move the Club forward and deliver memorable moments for you!
Finally, I would like to thank you for your support of the Club throughout 2022 which is hugely appreciated. I hope that you continue to enjoy your time at JGE in 2023 and look forward to seeing you at the Club soon.
Warmest wishes, Stephen Hubner Club Manager, Jumeirah Golf Estates

WELCOMING OUR NEW CLUB CAPTAINS
As always, in January each year, we have the great pleasure to introduce our incoming Captains that served as Vice Captains for the previous year. Please join me in welcoming your 2023 Club Captains:
YAS LINKS ABU DHABI
Men’s Captain: Francois Bosch Francois was born and raised in South Africa and has been playing golf for over 36 years. He played most of his golf in Pretoria, where he was privileged to serve as Club Captain at Pretoria Country Club for 3 years. Having played over 300 courses worldwide, he is a self-confessed golf fanatic, with a true love for the game and especially for Yas Links. Francois has been a resident in Abu Dhabi for the last 3 years and is huge fan of Kyle Phillips design.
Lady Captain: Leonie Sullivan Leonie hails from Country Cork in Ireland where she moved from to Abu Dhabi, almost 17 years ago, back in 2006. She first picked up the sticks 6 years ago and joined Yas Links in January 2017 after falling in love with the game. We’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Francois and Leonie over the last few months and we’re excited to have them join the team and we’re very much looking forward to liaising with them to drive additional value to the membership over the coming year.
14 VIYA GOLF
Dear Members,
On behalf of Viya Golf, I’d like to start by wishing you, your families and loved ones, a very Happy New Year and a prosperous year ahead!
May 2023 be the year that you display exceptional golfing prowess, drain birdie after birdie and finally achieve the elusive hole-in-one you’ve been so wishfully pursuing! As 2023 begins, our team is
very much looking forward to a year of positive change across the Viya Golf clubs, and one which will see various facilities enhanced and customer service elevated to new levels.
By renewing your memberships, we thank you for the trust you’ve shown in our vision, to build on the incredible work our Agronomy teams have undertaken; and to
commence on a journey to improve all of the Club facilities to a standard that would be expected of leading world-class golf venues.
As always please do take time to read the following updates and important Club announcements, so that you stay up to date and informed with happenings at the clubs.
Men’s Captain: Nick Richards
Born in the UK, Nick qualified as a Doctor at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London and played his golf at Chislehurst and The Berkshire. He first picked up golf in his early 20’s but didn’t play regularly until landing on the shores of the UAE in 20212, where he discovered a new found love for the game, and as such joined Saadiyat later that year. Nick was announced as Captain of the Club in 2020, however unfortunately, Covid cut short his captaincy year.
Lady Captain: Joyce Joman
Joyce was born and raised in The Netherlands, she is married and has two boys. Joyce has always enjoyed sports and outdoor activities, such as tennis, field hockey and squash, which she played for many years until she discovered our great game of golf! First picking up the game in 2017, she then joined the Club in 2020, where she became actively involved in ladies golf through the Golf-A-Holic Society and is looking to continue to promote ladies golf through her role as the inaugural Lady Captain.
THANK YOU TO OUR OUT-GOING CAPTAINS
Its not quite ‘out with the old and in with the new’, however, it’s that time of year when we doth our caps and say a big thank you to our previous Captains – John Gower and Sonia Cox at Yas Links Abu Dhabi, and Cris Partridge at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, for providing us with a wonderful year of service to the Clubs. We wish them all the very best and thank them sincerely for their outstanding contribution and support to the clubs in 2022.

LADY CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE
MARIVI ARIAS LADY CAPTAIN, EMIRATES GOLF CLUB
Dear Members
Only a few days from closing the gap between 2022 and 2023, here I am, sitting at Lima International Airport, waiting to board the plane that will take me back to Dubai.
Looking back to what has happened the last three months, brings back so many fun memories shared with our Emirates Golf Club Ladies.
The memories start coloured in pink! Our traditional and popular Pink Ball in October brought the feeling that our golfing session was already in full swing. The ladies looked so pretty dressed in so many tones of pink. As always the gol of the day was to spread awareness about breast cancer in a colourful and happy way. That day we had the fortune to have a fantastic guest speaker during the Pink Ball launch. Dr Kinda Douaidari, a well known breast interventional radiologist in Dubai who gave us a well prepared speech about Brest cancer and how to be alert to prevent it.
November started in a very scary way…it was the turn to play our Halloween Scramble. Between monsters in the middle of fairways and skeletons coming out of their tombs, we play dressed as witches, pumpkins, lady spiders, skeletons and death itself! Chef Dayan presented us with an incredible buffet. The food came in the form of spider webs, pumkings, bloody fingers, scary ghosts and lost eyeballs. His imagination and talent to adapt tasty food to any occasion is remarkable. Its certainly never a dull moment among the Ladies Section.
34 EMIRATES GOLF CLUB
Very soon after Halloween, we played the Diwali Tournament, as always so popular and well organised, not forgetting the delicious food that waited for us after the game.
We had a full house that day, the cherry of the cake was given by the ladies who participated in the tournament dressed in beautiful traditional Indian dresses for the prize giving dinner. A special recognition to our lady member Rekha Bandopadhyay who’s efforts made of the Diwali Tournament a success.
December arrived with the promise of another super fun tournament…our Christmas Scramble. I’m so glad we took so many pictures of the day!! I had the privilege of getting our lovely ladies dressed as Christmas trees, snow ladies, snow flakes, sexy Christmas wreaths, ladies in Christmas pyjamas, and the best of all…ladies as Christmas Snow Shakers!!! Something never seen before.
Remembering all this moments just shortly before 2023 starts, makes me so proud to be the lady Captain of this wonderful bunch of ladies. Always so ready to have fun, always so creative and imaginative, always so happy and always so committed and proud to be members of the Emirates Golf Club Ladzies Section.
My tribute to everyone of my fellow lady members, you make the section shine, you make your lady Captain very proud, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

CLUB CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE
JONATHAN HALL CLUB CAPTAIN, JUMEIRAH GOLF ESTATES
As we enter the 2023 season, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new members to the club and to wish you all a happy and prosperous year ahead. I would especially like to thank the inaugural Club Captains, Steve Drake and Sheila McIlroy for their leadership, commitment, support and efforts over the last fifteen months.
They have been fantastic ambassadors for the club and true friends to both members and colleagues. I would also like to congratulate Noel O’Leary on his appointment as Vice Captain for 2023 and of course Captain for 2024.
I believe we are extremely fortunate to be members of a club that has two of the best courses in the UAE and over the last few years has continually improved its clubhouse offering via the introduction of the Crafty Fox, Kasturi, Bussola, Bota and the Lounge Spa.
I was also delighted to see the launch of the Tommy Fleetwood Academy at the end of 2022 which will only add to our abilities to improve our golf under the influence of one of the very best.
36 JUMEIRAH GOLF ESTATES
I would like to say a special thank you to Stuart Horwood, our Golf Course Superintendent, and his entire agronomy team for their tireless efforts over the last eighteen months, what they have achieved is exceptional. At the start of 2022, we had a major infestation of tropical signal grass, water table issues and trees and native areas that had grown uncontrollably across both courses.
At the end of 2022, the Earth course received more praise from the DP World Tour professionals than I can remember in my twelve years here and the Fire course is currently in great condition and continues to improve. We will undoubtedly all reap the rewards of their work through the presentation of these courses in 2023 however Stuart needs our support to achieve this. One of Steve Drake’s focus areas was improving player etiquette and although we have seen significant improvements, we must all as members continue to champion this when out on the courses, particularly raking bunkers, repairing pitch marks, filling divots and keeping carts off sensitive areas such as fire grass.
Every time we arrive at the club, we are greeted by the hardest working golf operations, F&B and support function colleagues who ensure we all feel a true sense of belonging. I would like to thank all of them for looking after us so well and I look forward to supporting you through 2023. I would also like to belatedly congratulate Stephen Wilson on his role of Golf Operations Manager, we are in very safe hands with him.
37 CLUB CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE
To those who I have not yet met, myself and my wife Michelle (the much better half) have been members at Jumeirah Golf Estates since 2010 and it is a great honour and privilege to serve as Captain. I was born in Northern Ireland and after school, studied at the University of Dundee. Petrified at the thought of working in an office, following graduation I swiftly joined the British Army and had a fantastic seven years travelling various parts of the world. I moved to Dubai in 2008 and it is a city that I now very much call home.
My focus this year will be to build on the great collaboration that already exists between the members and the Jumeriah Golf Estates team and support the club to maintain and improve the golfing experience for members and guests, both on and off the courses. I would like to encourage as many members as possible to take part in the competitions and match play tournaments, which help create a thriving club environment and we will also be adding some unique social competitions to the calendar this year.
I want to wish my good friend Evelyn Downham a fantastic year as Lady Captain, she will no doubt continue to grow the engagement and enjoyment of the lady golfers at the club as she takes over from the tremendous efforts of Sile McIlroy. I also want to wish her husband Carl Downham all the best as the Scratch Team Captain and congratulate them on their opening match of the season against Dubai Hills, winning 3½ to ½. I would like to encourage our members to come out and support the men’s scratch team and lady’s ICC team in their respective matches this year where possible, particularly in home matches.
I look forward to meeting and playing with as many members as possible this year and I look forward to supporting Stephen Hubner, our Club Manager, and his fantastic team, continue to make Jumeirah Golf Estates the best golf club in the UAE.

LADY CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE
EVELYN SWORD LADY CAPTAIN, JUMEIRAH GOLF ESTATES
A few days into my captaincy and I must say that I am honoured and grateful that Jumeirah Golf Estates have given me this opportunity.
I have had a year learning from the best... our very first Lady Captain, Sheila McIlroy. I could not start my year without thanking Sheila for all her hard work and support to the ladies’ golf section.
I know that all the Jumeirah Golf Estates ladies will agree that she has been a fantastic inaugural Lady Captain and we have all appreciated everything she has done to grow our section into what it is today. Thank you Sheila! In December, both our Captains, Steve and Sheila, hosted a fabulous Captain’s Day to mark the
end of their tenure. Playing a pairs scramble, we were delighted - but not surprised - that 2 of our lady members reigned champs at the end of the round! Along with the superb golf, our Captains and sponsors put on a great array of “watering” holes around the course. A fun day followed by dinner on the Earth terrace; we are so very lucky to have some great views from our Clubhouse.
Our new Lady Vice Captain, Anna-Retha Rafferty, was announced in the evening. Thank you so much Anna-Retha for joining me on this 2023 captaincy journey. We are going to have a blast!
Now maybe a little bit about me... I was born in Irvine, a small town on the west coast of Scotland but spent most of my early childhood in Africa. My Dad’s career took us to Ghana and then Lesotho, Southern Africa where we lived for 15 years, however, most of my schooling was in Scotland as I went back to boarding school when I was 8. You may now understand why I don’t sound like most of the Scots at Jumeirah Golf Estates, but honestly, I do understand all of them!
On graduating university in London, I moved to Paris where I learned to speak French (complete with Scottish accent of course),
then finally moved to the Middle East in 1998. My time in the region has been between Bahrain and Dubai.
Before moving to Dubai, golf was not my sport at all. In fact, throughout school, uni and my time in Paris, hockey was my game. As most retired hockey players will tell you, golf is the next step. I became more involved when my two children were older.
Having been a member of Al Badia Golf Club and Dubai Creek, I am now happy to be in my 9th year as a member at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
39
LADY CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE
In December, the ladies also held their Christmas Scramble which saw 36 players in festive gear - from the pics you can see some more than others! A few dubious Santas also came to visit! Dinner followed under the stars at the Tap & Grill – my first turkey dinner of the festive season. We exchanged Secret Santa gifts, and many laughs were had!
Having just spent Christmas in the Western Cape, South Africa, playing golf and visiting their well-known grape farms and I am honestly thinking of organising a Lady Captain’s golf trip later this year. So watch this space...
I am very much looking forward to the year ahead after our first ladies’ Wednesday game that took place on the 4th January. I am delighted to say that in true Captain style, myself and my talented partner, new member Aalaa Somji, came out as winners with le Frenchy team of Valerie Darnault and Roisine Natali as runners up. Congrats all and well done to all those that made our first 2023 game. Our season continues with our second ICC match taking place at our home club on the 1st February against our sisters Emirates Golf Club and Yas Links. Good luck to all of us!

Yet another one!
Thanks to Stephen Wilson, Adam Stastny and Finlay Galloway who help oversee the organisation of the ladies section.
A special mention and thanks also go to our lovely lady golf professionals, Charlotte and Ginger, who generously give their time to help us keep our golfing sanity!
And lastly, a personal thanks to Stephen Dean who has tried his hardest since the summer to better my game... no mean feat, but I am sure I will get there in the end.
Let’s go girls! Evelyn

CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE
GENE SUNG CHA CLUB CAPTAIN, DUBAI CREEK GOLF & YACHT CLUB
It is a huge honor for me to be the Captain of Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club for 2023.
I have been a founder member since Dubai Creek opened in January 1993.
I was born in Korea in 1961 and left in 1975. I have lived in Thailand, gone to a boarding school in England, graduated from both university and graduate school in the USA. I came to Dubai in December 1992, more than 30 years ago. I am a hotelier with two operating hotels in Dubai, Asiana Hotel and Asiana Grand Hotel.
I started playing golf in 1988 in New York. I immediately fell in love and became obsessed with the game ever since. I broke 80 within 5 months of playing. My life for the last 35 years cannot be described without this wonderful game, as my leisure time mostly revolves around the game of golf.
Being a member of Dubai Creek, I feel very fortunate to be able to play at a world-class golf course with superb conditions throughout the year, be always greeted by most welcoming and friendly staff and be
friends with such wonderful members from so many different cultures. Dubai Creek is indeed a second home for me.
Looking ahead to 2023, a new members tournament, “Nations Cup”, will take place in the first half of the year to determine which country will be the best golfing nation at Dubai Creek.
A new annual event, “Captains’ Golf Trip” for the members will be organized in the second half of the year with South Korea as the destination.
Together with Lady Captain Shiba, Vice-Captains Kevin and Janet, we will continue to listen and voice the concerns and suggestions of the members to ensure Dubai Creek Golf and Yatch Club remains to be the world class golf course it has been for the last 30 years.
In closing, I would like to thank all the members, staff and management for their support and guidance for 2023. A special “Thank You” to both Max and Bea for being such wonderful captains for 2022.
Let’s hope for another great year of fun and happiness at Dubai Creek.

LADY CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE
SHIBA WAHID LADY CAPTAIN, DUBAI CREEK GOLF & YACHT CLUB
Dear Members of the esteemed Club,
Survival, resilience, foresight, this is what we are made of, 2022 seemed like Covid never happened and that only shows life goes on irrespective what happens. 2023 looks promising from many aspects and as we embark into the ‘new’, we can only wish for better times
I extend my sincere good wishes to all associates of Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club as we celebrate its 30th anniversary year.
I feel privileged yet humbled by being selected as the Lady Captain of Dubai Creek and definitely excited to take this torch forward while closely working my fellow Men’s Captain Gene Cha in the coming days.
Golf happened to me, that’s how I can put my first experience, being an athlete all my life, I always thought Golf was not for me as I believed it was not as fast paced as I would have liked. I attribute my introduction to Tauseef who is also a member of the club since 2011 as he handed over a club one fine day and asked me to have a go. There was no looking back in life, I had just stumbled upon a sport which would become my passion for life.
On a lighter note, my family had their doubts if I would ever be able to play at this level and would quit soon. My father played hockey, my brother played cricket so golf was never a common discussion topic. Now when I look back, the best things in life were never planned and golf being that very best thing for me.
Dubai creek celebrates its ‘Pearl anniversary’ this year, The First Ladies monthly medal is playedon 11th Jan , followed by The Ladies ICC round 2’ will be played at Montgomerie on the 18th Jan.
I would also like to thank my good friend Bea for her support and guidance through 2022 and I look forward to working with my lady Vice Captain Janet Kim in the coming months and leveraging her experience in delivering a good year for the club.
I leave you with a quote ladies, “Set your heights more than what you see around you, see beyond.” Anthony Anderson.
Thanks Shiba

Irishman Power, who will finish 2022 Number One on the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Rankings, will make his first appearance in the Rolex Series event at the beginning of a year which he hopes will deliver a Ryder Cup debut for Team Europe.
“The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is one of the highlights on the DP World Tour schedule and I am really excited to make my debut next month,” Power said.
“I have heard great things about the event and I am relishing the chance to take part in it. I’ve played well on the PGA TOUR this year so hopefully I can bring my game to Abu Dhabi next month and take a step closer to that team at Marco Simone in September.”
Englishman Hatton, who won his fourth Rolex Series title when he secured the coveted Falcon Trophy in 2021, said: “I am looking forward to returning to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, it’s a tournament I have a good record in.
“The win in 2021 is one of my greatest memories in golf and it is always an enjoyable experience to begin the year with such a big event in Abu Dhabi.”
Fox, whose best Rolex Series result to date was a second place in Ireland in 2018, said: “The events in the Middle East at the start of the year are always great fun, so I can’t wait to get over to Yas Links in January.
“I’ve played some really good golf over the last 12 months so hopefully I can continue that in the new year and compete for a Rolex Series title.”

Austrian Straka won his first PGA TOUR title at The Honda Classic earlier this year and made his Rolex Series debut in July’s Genesis Scottish Open: “I loved my first taste of a Rolex Series event last year and I am eager for more at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
“Getting the opportunity to spend two weeks in Abu Dhabi at the start of the year and having the opportunity to test my game in a different location is really exciting.”
Molinari will return to the event for the first time in nine years, one week after leading the Continental Europe team in the Hero Cup, and is another man with his sights on securing a memorable home appearance at next year’s Ryder Cup.

We look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership with the tour as we are both committed to growing the game of golf in the UAE.”
The successful move to Yas Island in 2022 heralded a new chapter for the tournament which highlights Abu Dhabi as an international sports hub with the season ending F1 Championship and Ultimate Fighting Championship also taking residency at the world-class venue.
Last month, the DP World Tour confirmed all Rolex Series events will have a total prize fund of US$9million – an increase of $1million
from the 2022 prize. The 2023 tournament will be the second of four events forming the Middle East swing, as Abu Dhabi prepares to host two weeks of world class golf across multiple venues.

The new venue offers a unique blend of stunning views, first-class hospitality and a diverse range of award-winning leisure and entertainment attractions, enhancing the experience for fans, whether they attend in person or watch from around the world.

JOHN FELLINGHAM SHOOTS 70 AT 70!
Dubai Creek long standing member John Fellingham, achieved the remarkable feat of shooting a gross score of 70 (-1) at the fine age of 70, one of the games rarest achievements.
Shooting your age in golf is one of the games toughest tasks, with less than 1% of golfers managing to achieve such a challenge, but the experienced Dubai Creek Scratch Team Captain did so in sensational style, compiling a round of 70 (-1), consisting of 3 birdies on holes 8, 11 and the challenging 18th.
At 6849 yards, from the Blue Tournament Tees, Dubai Creek is well known for its challenging tee shots and tricky course design, and so this accomplishment is an impressive score to add to a golfing CV at any age.
“This one of my greatest golfing rounds and something I’ve always wanted to
achieve,” said John. “I was nervous with a few holes to go, as it’s so hard thing to achieve this in golf and of course you have to be a certain age to do it. I had a 3ft putt on my final hole to finish off the round, thankfully it went in.”
“I’ve had a few rounds in the 60’s, but I was a lot younger then!”
John’s handicap was 7.9 when he played this round, which meant his course handicap of 11 added up to an astounding net 59! It’s safe to say John ran away with any of the clubs competitions happening on that day.
John has been a member of the club since 1995, his best round coming in his 2013 Summer Open victory, firing a superb gross score of 67. In spite being 3 shots better, 8 years on this round of 70 certainly takes pole position in John’s most impressive rounds. Michael Major, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club Director
of Golf said: “John has been knocking on the door of this achievement for some time! As Golfers, shooting your age is something we all dream of and so it’s fantastic to see John triumph in this challenge.”
