Friday Seafood Nights at Medley Restaurant in Pullman Dubai Creek City Centre hits the spot when you want to cap a long work week with the bounties of the sea.
Doors open at 7pm and I swear I was there minutes before it does.
Didn’t want to be late at the fresh catch section where you have everything on the spread – from tuna to snappers, sea bream, crabs, shrimps and lobsters.
You pick your choices, they grill them for you and bring them to your table.
A few steps nearby is another spread –rows and rows of sushi, mussels, clams and more shrimps.
Indeed, it’s seafood galore! Seafood wonderland, if you will!
On the trays were such dishes like Devilled Calamari (catchy name, huh?), Fish Amritsari, Fish Makhani, Penne Seafood Marinara, Fish Tagine, Seafood
In one favourite spot is the queen of them all – the Seafood Paella!
There is also a wide selection of sweets for dessert.
The theme night closes at around 11pm, I think.
In all, it was a good four hours of indulging in a medley of bounties from the sea.

Evoking nostalgia and giving glimpses into Ramadan traditions in the UAE and beyond, Expo City Dubai’s ‘Hai Ramadan’, running from 3 March to 25 April 2023, promises to be a true celebration of the holy month with an enchanting atmosphere, delicious food and exciting activities.
Amna Abulhoul, Executive Creative Director – Expo City Dubai, said: “Just as Expo 2020 Dubai brought the world together once before, Expo City Dubai’s ‘Hai Ramadan’ will bring together different communities from all over during the holy month. We are excited that our visitors will be able to rejoice in some of the world’s most famous and well-known Ramadan traditions in a single destination.”
The festivities – an experiential interpretation of hai, an Arabic word with a dual meaning of ‘neighbourhood’ and ‘welcome’ – will run for more than 50 days, beginning on 3 March, the weekend prior to the UAE’s traditional celebration of Haq Al Laila, in preparation for the
start of Ramadan two weeks later.
Hai Ramadan will take visitors on a cultural journey where they can share unique experiences from across the Islamic world. From regional cuisine to international gastronomy and enticing street food, visitors will also have the chance to indulge in an array of food and beverages, reflecting the joy of breaking fast and sharing a meal with a loved one during the holy month.
Worshippers will be able to access a dedicated mosque on site for all prayers, including Isha and the later Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers. After the Taraweeh prayer, storytellers will evoke the ancient Arab art of Hakawati – narrating folktales and stories of adventure, culture, religion and morality. Additionally, Expo City Dubai’s very own Misaharati – classic Ramadan figures who would wake up their communities with drumming and singing, traditionally before dawn, to drink water and partake in Suhoor – will celebrate the experience of this age-old tradition throughout the day.
Al Wasl Plaza will offer a family-friendly theatrical show by Expo 2020 Dubai’s official mascots, Rashid and Latifa, and children of all ages are welcome to join workshops and games to learn about elements of Emirati culture and the values of Ramadan, such as kindness, generosity and compassion. To promote a healthy lifestyle, Expo City Dubai will host sports tournaments for adults with a dedicated zone that will feature games, fitness and wellness activations for people of all activity levels. A full schedule of events will be published nearer the time.
An ideal destination for gatherings of family and friends, entry to Hai Ramadan, including the Al Wasl show and sports activities, is free, with charges for some workshops and games. A bustling night market will see homegrown vendors offer perfumes, gifts, and tailor-made clothing, and a corporate Iftar option will be on offer.
Hai Ramadan will take place from 16002200 in the run-up to Ramadan, and from 1700-0200 during Ramadan.

Abbas Fasaei is a Belgian actor and acting teacher with over two decades of experience. Initially, he comes from Iran. He started his acting career when he was 12 and was a student of Michael Margotta and Oscar winner Paul Haggis. Abbas was nominated for the Belgian Ensors when he played in Iron Sky, Undercover, Tehran, Het Gouden Uur, and Diepe Gronden.
Aside from acting, he is the owner and headteacher of the CinAct Acting Academy, which collaborates with the AED Studios in Lint. He teaches the Stanislavski method, and his students have gone on to appear in Belgian and international films and television series. He also teaches acting and psychodrama in Italy, Russia, the United States, France, and Colombia.
CinAct teaches the necessary mindset, ethics, and skills for acting. Everything begins with self-improvement; this is the most fundamental and essential step, and it is precisely what they help their students develop from the start.
He says they also take a holistic approach to student education, with classes based on Stanislavsky. Despite being established relatively recently, they are quickly becoming a hub for people in the industry, not just in the Belgian film scene but worldwide.
CinAct is more than just an acting academy; it is a community where people
of all ages and backgrounds learn about drama and grow as individuals. They have three locations, one based in the AED Studios, Benelux’s largest film studio, and we have approximately 350 studios. We are currently planning to open one in Greece.
Where it all started
“When I was a kid, my teachers used to tell me that I had to become an actor, and I had a real talent for it. So, they pushed me towards the theater,” Abbas said.
At first, he thought theater was great, but he felt compelled to express himself more externally and physically. While at the movies, he noticed that everything is more internal, closer, and condensed. As a result, he prefers to complete one project before moving on to the next.
When asked if he regrets anything he did in the film because of his desire to push himself to his limits, he said that he never regrets anything he has done in his life, even if it was a mistake. Because it shaped him into the person he is today.
“Failure is a part of the journey towards success. When I fail at something, it fuels me to try to find a way to become better. And if I don’t get a project, then I think it was not meant for me,” he said.
Abbas added, “I am trying to enjoy every process that I go through currently. And to be honest, sometimes it’s tough because of the pressure I put on myself to
grow and be more creative. But I work on it and try to meditate and be grateful for the things that I have.”
Abbas founded this incredible community with CinAct and now gets to share his knowledge. It’s fantastic to watch his students grow and develop. He tries to pull people around me up and take them to new heights with him. He’s had the chance to work on some exciting and creative projects.
He is happiest when working on passion projects that allow his creativity to flow freely, and he is fortunate to have been involved in many such projects already.
“Another accomplishment is that after my father died, I took a lot of medication, particularly anti-depressants, which influenced my brain and my ability to comprehend and retain information, such as my lines, and my dyslexia worsened. So I trained and pushed myself to be able to perform monologues that were longer than six pages,” Abbas mentioned.
Finally, he believes that we move toward something when we look at it. He always tries to look ahead, thinking the future will pull him to where he puts his focus and energy. He is also a firm believer in manifestation.
“I manifest everything I desire.”

Fashion icon breaks stereotypes, redefines beauty
Raimondo Rossi, also known as Ray Morrison, was born in Perugia, in the Italian countryside. He is a celebrity who has been photographed by some of the world’s leading magazines like GQ, Rolling Stone, Vogue, and The New York Times. Rossi is known for raising questions about perfection and giving visibility to beauty in every form. He has become a Hollywood A-lister at fashion shows.
Rossi is an honest, warm, friendly, openminded, and down-to-earth person, just like his art. He has worked with American
rapper Cryptic Wisdom, who reached out to him to style one of his videos. Rossi loves Asian labels like Juun J and has a deep admiration for Alexander McQueen, who he says connected with his emotions and expressed them in his designs.
In an interview, when asked if there was still fashion today, Rossi responded, “I’d say it’s a really interesting question. I would say definitely there is, as long as the fashion industry and turnover are growing, it means that fashion understood as an industry, is still very present and influential.”
Rossi takes an independent position toward fashion and the messages and stereotypes it has always transmitted, but he recognizes the power of the industry.
When asked if men are well-dressed or if they don’t follow fashion at all, Rossi said, “Men, fortunately, exist a bit of all types: those well-dressed and those who care less about the way they dress. Among those who feel interest or love, I would say that some men are very creative and interesting in their attitude. Personally, I love the ones that can play with multiple styles and not the ones that fit into one repeating style.”
Rossi’s unique qualities are his independence, availability to everyone, and the ability to treat everyone with the same respect.
When asked about fusing fashion photography with more personal indepth photography, Rossi said, “Fashion for its own sake leads nowhere.” Rossi believes in the fusion of fashion and raw reality, forming his reportage style and photographic style.
Rossi’s latest book, “I Don’t Think the Way You Do,” was inspired by the episodes of bullying he suffered as a child. The idea of composing collections of portraits that showed how important it is not to follow stereotypes and at the same time to have good self-esteem and self-confidence came from this.
Rossi’s most exceptional collaborations include his artistic direction for the collection of the “Accademia di Costume e Moda” in Rome and his work with the American rapper Cryptic Wisdom.

Dariush Soudi is a man of many talents. With a background in the military and elite athletics, he has dedicated his career to assisting individuals in discovering their inner strength and reaching peak performance in all aspects of life.
As the founder of the Gladiator Mastery course, he has gained a deep understanding of the psychology of peak performance and has helped thousands of individuals worldwide reach their goals using his no-nonsense approach and practical strategies.
Dariush has spent approximately 14 years in Dubai since he arrived in 2009. During this time, he has witnessed the growth of the UAE’s economy and has identified some key things that entrepreneurs should keep in mind before launching a business in the UAE in 2023.
According to Dariush, market research is crucial, and entrepreneurs should ask at least 100 people (non-family and friends) for their opinion. He also advises putting together a business plan, a cash flow projection, and reviewing the size of the market and possible competitors. Dariush believes that having a unique selling proposition is critical to stand out in a crowded market.
Entrepreneurs and startups in the UAE face present-day challenges, according to Dariush. He believes that the tendency to rely on social media for sales can be a long and distracting process. Instead, he recommends that entrepreneurs pick up the phone and meet with potential customers face-to-face, as this method can yield results much faster.
“I believe the tendency to rely on social media for sales can be a long and distracting process. I believe the best way
to get a sale done is by picking up the phone and meeting some one face to face. Social media takes a long time comparing to the old fashion way of sales,” he said.
As a coach, Dariush finds the most satisfying part of his job is turning a struggling business around to profitability and watching his clients count the extra zeros in their bank accounts.
He believes that business and sales are simple, but we tend to complicate things for ourselves. The everyday obstacles he encounters are typically from employees who don’t value themselves and their standards of work. However, he welcomes obstacles and believes that they help him train people to avoid or overcome them.
Dariush has had to overcome significant challenges in his life, including having no money, no friends, and no peer group. He relied on postcard notes reminding him of all he had to do every day to reach his goals and a vision board to keep him focused. Dariush advises entrepreneurs to keep their focus and work hard and smart to achieve their goals.
“Everyone should have one (goal). You just have to know and remember that as long as you are doing the right things every day, eventually your circumstances will change for the better. The more you or your business earns the more confident you become,” Dariush said.
When it comes to his ultimate vision for himself and his family, Dariush wants to leave them with enough financial security and education so that they never have to feel poor. He wants his children’s cups to be filled with so much love that they never have to form relationships to fill any void they may have. He hopes they will form life-enhancing relationships
that add value to their lives.
In conclusion, Dariush Soudi is a gladiator, inspirational speaker, and coach who has dedicated his career to helping individuals reach peak performance. He believes that success and abundance come from strategizing, practicing moves, and using practical approaches to achieve goals.
For entrepreneurs and startups in the UAE, Dariush advises caution, market research, and careful spending to achieve long-term success, “Don’t be in a rush, 99.99% of successful business take time. Business is a marathon and not a sprint. Be careful how you spend your money.”
“Cash is King, watch your costs. Before you get into a partnership with another entity , weigh up all your options and make sure you share the same values.”
The Gladiator Mastery program, created by Dariush Soudi, is focused on providing professionals with the skills they need to succeed in life. With the belief that modern technology has made people lazy and entitled, the program emphasizes the importance of practicing and strategizing to achieve success and abundance.
Drawing inspiration from the gladiators of ancient times who had to fight for their lives, the program teaches practical approaches for overcoming challenges and achieving goals. By incorporating strategies used in The Arena, participants can learn to overcome obstacles and succeed in today’s competitive environment.
The Gladiator Mastery program aims to provide individuals with the tools they need to thrive and succeed in all aspects of their lives.

Alexandra Deeva, a 32-year-old Russian national, is the co-founder and senior marketing consultant of Real Marketing Solutions (RMS) Team. With a strong background in marketing, she uses a differentiated and measured approach to achieve marketing objectives. This woman believes that each marketer builds their own marketing philosophy based on experience and skills. She started her career back in 2015, passing through all aspects of advertising and marketing, from printing press to account management to strategy formation.
For Alexandra, a marketing manager is an independent individual who can plan, create, design, execute, and control the strategically effective development of a company. Being highly self-motivated, she prefers to do her best at work.
She says, “Marketing for me is a combination of management functions and creativity, that is what I am about, however, due to my current position today, I prefer to use more managerial and leadership skills to scale and grow the team.”
Alexandra has been in Dubai for almost 11 years now. She said it was not an easy decision for her to move to the UAE, as her first plan was to move to France. She finds Dubai attractive but challenging.
“You have to be quick, quicker in decision, be critical and evaluate words and steps to be understood and accepted by all nationalities and group ages,” she said.
When asked about which part of Dubai she loves most, Alexandra answered, “Dubai Marina will remain my first love, I lived there for more than 6 years and apart from traffic, it is perfect for work and life balance.”
Alexandra is passionate about sports and spends six-eight hours a day sitting in front of a laptop. She said that the best recharge for her is time with close people, meeting with friends, and endless playdates with her daughter.
As a consultant, Alexandra has worked with all industries. Her passion and best expertise lie in B2B projects, such as industrial, construction, and logistics, where she enjoys the strict business culture that helps reach results more efficiently.
She enjoys seeing the team grow and sharing the knowledge they have gained with co-founder. Alexandra says, “Whether I like it or not, it’s about seeing the success of others, not just my work. We see success in the things we
One of the everyday struggles Alexandra faces in the industry is communication overload. Being a marketing person means being always in the loop.
“One million chat groups, hundreds of meetings per week, voice messages, and updates. It’s not easy to communicate with everyone 24/7, but we have implemented project management techniques and tools to streamline the best information exchange,” Alexandra said.
As an entrepreneur, this wonder woman admits that it’s a battle itself, from internal team management to external contractors and clients. The journey of RMS started with the need for extra income to sustain life in Dubai and provide the best for her little one. She called her best friend and colleague Vladimir to start a small marketing practice together. Now, they have a team of 14, and she wonders where the journey will take them.
Lastly, when asked about her ultimate dream for her family and herself, Alexandra said, “I dream about stability and freedom, looking forward to the expansion of the team and project scale.

Whether you’re already committed to a daily walk or looking to get started, when it comes to being fit and healthy, we’re often reminded to aim to walk 10,000 steps per day. But how set in stone is this figure?
Recent studies found that the health benefits of walking can be achieved through maintaining a certain frequency, taking a specific number of steps each day, and increasing the intensity of your daily walk. According to research published in the JAMA Neurology and JAMA Internal Medicine late last year, for every 2,000 steps, the risk of heart disease, cancer, and premature death can decrease by 10%, peaking at 10,000 steps each day.
Michelle Champlin, Chief Podiatrist of Dubai Podiatry Centre said, ‘Walking is such a simple way to stay active and healthy. The heart and lungs pump oxygenated blood around the body and this significantly increases when we walk. The calf muscles in our legs demand oxygenated blood from the heart and lungs while walking, so this demand for blood also helps other organs function better. The longer we walk, the better the blood flow for the entire body.’’
The report also revealed how walking at a faster pace, or upping the intensity of your walk, such as power walking, was found to have health benefits too. Brisk walkers (between 80-100 steps per minute) had a 35 percent lower risk
of dying, a 25 percent lower chance of developing heart disease or cancer, and a 30 percent lower risk of developing dementia, compared with those whose average pace was slower.
Commenting on pace and intensity, Michelle Champlin said, ‘‘Whether you are walking for health, fitness or even weight loss, the pace of your walk will be determined by individual capabilities. For example, a brisk walking pace can range from 10 to 15 minutes per kilometer, or from 5km/hr to 7.5km/hr. At this pace, breathing should be noticeably harder, but you should still be able to speak in full sentences. If your cardiovascular is at a good level, then a 15-minute pace might be considered a light-intensity exercise. It may take only ten minutes to walk one
kilometer at a quicker pace.’’
‘‘It’s important to track progress,’’ says Michelle Champlin. ‘‘Look at the time when you start your walk. When you get to the 1000-meter mark (1km) on the walking track, check the time again. This will tell you how many minutes it took you to walk 1km. As you get more accustomed to walking you may notice the same distance will take less time to complete, so you may want to increase the walking distance by 500-1000 meters. I recommend walking the same distance 5 times in a row before increasing the distance. This will allow the muscles and tendons to adjust to the added activity as well as the skin on the feet.’’
Taking 10,000 steps a day (roughly seven to eight kilometers, depending on a person’s stride) has become a common health and fitness goal, but many individuals in the UAE tend to lead sedentary lifestyles, making it a challenge for individuals to meet the daily recommended steps count. This is down to a higher number of desk jobs as well as urbanization and the infrastructure of some communities.
But there is hope. Inactive individuals can still take smaller steps towards good health, to gradually increase their step count. The recent research explains how fewer steps can still help towards decreasing health risks. For example, 9,800 steps can lower the risk of dementia by 50 percent and taking 3,800 steps a day lowers it by 25 percent.
Michelle Champlin said: ‘‘Carving out time to walk for exercise can be limited but a few small tweaks to your social and family life can make a huge difference. For example, next time you invite your friends over for a coffee, suggest ‘walking and talking’, as opposed to sitting and talking for an hour or so. Before you know it, you would have hit your daily step count without even realizing it – and you will find that your friends will take inspiration from you.
‘‘Try to include your family. Make yourself a good role model by going for a long, family walk before dinner. After a time, this will naturally become part of your daily family routine, and everyone will feel better for it.’’
Michelle also recommends that people discover their local walks and implement
longer walks on the weekend when they have more time.
‘‘Abu Dhabi and the UAE have taken the brilliant initiative to incorporate health and fitness areas into our neighborhoods for the health and wellbeing of all communities. We have a plethora of safe walking areas perfect for beginners, intermediate, and more advanced walkers. These visually beautiful and interesting walks are great ways to increase our step counts, such as the Abu Dhabi Corniche, Al Maryah Island, and Al Zahiyah to Yas Marina Circuit.’’
With great walks just on our doorstep, the experts from Abu Dhabi 360, the new community-wide wellness program launched by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, are encouraging everyone in the emirate to walk at least 30 minutes per day and kickstart their journey towards wholeperson wellness.
Participants can look forward to several upcoming events, all of which will be available on the app. Download the Abu Dhabi 360 app at www.MyAbuDhabi360. aeto find your 360 today.
