plains zoo What are the Zoo opening times? • 9am – 4pm, every day of the year.

How far is the Zoo from Dubbo’s CBD? • Five minute drive, or • 8km walk/bike ride.

Is there public transport to the Zoo?

• No public bus service from Dubbo to the Zoo, however you can hire a taxi, or • hire a car from the many car hire companies in Dubbo.

What can I do at the Zoo?

• Daily Keeper presentations (included in admission) • Early Morning Walks, Tours and Animal Encounters (cost in addition to admission) • Free Savannah Visitor Plaza includes visitor information, Zoo Shop, Safari Playground, Bakhita’s Cafe – overlooking the Savannah Lake and Primate Islands.

How do I get around the Zoo?

With 6km of sealed road and 15km of walking trails: • hire push bikes or electric carts, or • bring your own push bike, walk or drive your own car.

How long does it take?

The Zoo experience can be as long or as short as you like • Most tickets are valid for two consecutive days – this allows you to enter and leave the Zoo as much as you wish within regular opening hours.

What’s on the menu at the Zoo?

Safari in our backyard. Explore the Primate Islands at the award-winning Taronga Western Plains Zoo. The Zoo is open from 9am – 4pm daily. Take a sneak peek at what’s in store for your visit to the Zoo. Scan centre of the image with your smartphone for a short video.

The Zoo offers two overnight experiences: • Billabong Camp, and • Zoofari Lodge. Both include Zoo admission. Contact the Zoo directly to enquire or book.

Western Plains Cultural Centre Centrally located, this state-of-the-art facility boasts a Gallery, Museum, modern Cafe and Community Arts Centre. There are six exhibition spaces to choose from. See the latest in new media art, the City’s Animal in Art Collection, dedicated Children’s Gallery and an array of contemporary and traditional works on display. Find out about Dubbo’s fascinating history told through the permanent exhibition, People, Places and

Possessions. Admission to the Centre is free!* You can also relax and unwind with a coffee or delicious meal at the Outlook Cafe, overlooking the green expanse of Victoria Park. Taronga Western Plains Zoo Find yourself surrounded by magnificent wildlife in wide open plains. Walk, ride or drive around on hired bikes or carts. You can even stay the night at Zoofari Lodge or Billabong Camp. The Zoo offers a range of daily activities including talks, tours and encounters. Old Dubbo Gaol Night Tours Don’t miss an opportunity to step into the shoes of a 19th Century prisoner and take a guided tour of the Old Dubbo Gaol after hours. Watch out for the Gaol’s resident ghosts and funny characters as you take a torch light tour, with a theatrical twist – filled with chilling facts and frights there is a tour for all members of the family. Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden Enliven your senses at the Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden (DRBG). The botanic garden is still under development and currently comprises of four distinctive garden spaces:

• Take time out at the Sensory Garden – an invigorating experience which has been designed to engage through smell, sight, sound, touch and taste.

• Shoyoen or “strolling” garden, this authentic Japanese Garden is maintained with the assistance of the Friends of the DRBG as well as Dubbo’s sister city, Minokamo, through annual visits by their gardeners.

• The Oasis Valley is the newest edition – opened in April 2013, the Valley is designed to exhibit dry rainforest species and tell the story about how our local bushland species evolved from the cool forests of Gondwanaland.

• Enjoy a peaceful meander through the Biodiversity Garden, that showcases the plant communities of the Dubbo region.

Dubbo Arts and Craft Society

Be amazed by hundreds of rock grooves created by the Tubbagah people of the Wiradjuri nation. This site of ancient artifacts is of historical significance and is located beside the Macquarie River at Terramungamine Reserve.

On offer at the Cobra Street Cottage are works of art together with a selection of patchwork, porcelain paintings, silvercraft, spinning and weaving and wood-turning by local artists. Open when the flags are out. Free admission.

On the 8th April 1936, the local newspaper of the reported a ‘horrific accident, one at worst in Dubbo’s history’. Constructed in 1887 as Dubbo’s Post Office, colonial architect James Barnet also designed the Sydney Post Office in Martin Place and Dubbo’s Court House. The building is Italianate in style, featuring central porticos, marble Corinthian columns British Coat of Arms.
