T
he Wilmington College football will be looking to take the next step in its rebuilding as head coach Stacey Hairston begins his third year at the helm. “Overall, our team will have more depth at much needed positions and more experience to give the best chance of success,” said Wilmington head coach
4
Four of Wilmington’s six offensive returning starters are on the offensively line. Juniors Sterling Clark (Cincinnati, OH/ Northwest) and Lane Hacker (Cloverdale, IN/South Putnam) have started a combined 36 games in the last two years. They are joined by sophomores Saul Boyel (Bellefontaine, OH/Benjamin Logan) and Tyler Gilcher (Brunswick, OH/ Brunswick) to bring stability to the offensive. More importantly, the Fightin’ Quakers will have much needed depth in the trenches. “Going into the offseason, our top priority was getting much needed depth on our offensive line,” said Hairston. “We have some experience coming back; guys with experience in the trenches against the best in the nation. We are bringing in some quality transfers and freshmen to compete. Running back is probably the deepest offensive position as All-OAC performer Chase Manica (Shelbyville, KY/Shelby County) returns to lead a quartet of viable options. Manica, a senior, has led the team in rushing in each of the last two seasons.
Manica averaged 4.2 yards per carry, down from 4.6 yards per carry as a sophomore. He gained 394 yards on 93 attempts with one touchdown. It was the only rushing touchdown by a WC running back all season. “In order to be successful we can’t be one-dimensional, and with the group of running backs we have coming back, there is the anticipation that our running game will be much improved over a year ago,” said Hairston. Manica will be pushed for carries by junior Eric Flynn, Jr. (Cleveland, OH/Central Catholic) and sophomore Gino Hinton (Maple Heights, OH/Maple Heights). Wilmington also returns its starting quarterback as junior Luke Creditt (Wilmington, OH/Waynesville) is ready to take the next step in his development. Creditt missed three games due to an injury, but still managed to throw for 1,472 yards with 10 touchdowns on 104-of-187 (55.6 percent) passing. However, he threw 11 interceptions on the season. “It’s good that Luke is coming back, he has finally settled in his role,” said Hairston. “He had a good spring adapting and adjusting to our new offense. He is looking to go to the next level, but with any situation we have to have competition. We can’t just rely on Luke because we have had injuries where the number 2, 3, or 4 has been thrown into the mix.” Creditt is the only quarterback on the roster with any varsity
Sophomore Jay Higgins is the lone starter returning in the defensive backfield.
experience. Sophomore Lane Stevenson (Brookville, IN/ Brookville) returns to the team after sitting out last season and missing the previous season with an injury. Receivers are the most inexperienced group as the returners combined for 11 of WC’s 156 receptions from last season. Junior Tyler Tarnowski (Broadview Heights, OH/ Brecksville-Broadview Heights) is the most experienced member of the receiving corps with 19 career catches. Junior P.J. Meyer (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) and sophomore Jeffrey Ponichtera (Austin, TX/Round Rock) have a combined 10 career receptions. All-OAC linemen David Henry (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) anchors a defensive line that features four of Wilmington’s six defensive starters. His 76 tackles represent the highest total of any returning defensive player.
er, has been a stalwart in the middle of the line. He started all 10 games, posting 41 tackles with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Prince started all 10 games a season ago and finished with 34 tackles, three for loss and one sack. Sophomore Brandon Middleton (Garfield Heights, OH/ Garfield Heights) is the lone returning starter at linebacker. Middleton will look to make a bigger impact on the WC defense as he recorded just 12 tackles in 10 games. Junior Luke Creditt returns after starting seven games at quarterback last season.
“Most people would say our defensive line in the heart and soul of our defense,” said Hairston. “We have some guys that are capable of being very dominant in their position. We have a lot of talent on our defensive line, and it starts with David Henry.” Henry was second in the league with seven sacks and third with 12.5 tackles for loss, while leading all OAC defensive linemen in tackling and forced fumbles. He ranked in the top 20 nationally in forced fumbles. Juniors Darren Milligan (Franklin, OH/Carlisle), Ryan Prince (Urbana, OH/Urbana) and Terrance Narcisse-Murphy (Castleberry, FL/Lyman) also return, and senior Linden Ayoki (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) steps back on the gridiron after sitting out last season. Narcisse-Murphy missed half the season with an injury. Milligan, a two-year start-
“We return a couple players that have played linebacker for us, starting with CJ Thompson, who is a linebacker by nature,” said Hairston. “He is coming in with the mentality that we need a dominant presence in the middle. We are five, six deep at our linebacker position, so we are real excited with what we have at the position.” Senior C.J. Thompson (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) moved to linebacker midway through the season and made his presence felt. He finished with 28 tackles with three tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. Senior Trent Waters (Bowling Green, OH/Bowling Green) has been in the linebacker rotation for the last two seasons. He recorded 23 tackles and three tackles for loss. Senior Mason Poland (Mechanicsburg, OH/Mechanicsburg), junior Nik Logic (Sidney, OH/Sidney) and sophomore Josh Loud (Bidwell, OH/River Valley) will compete for snaps. Sophomore Jay Higgins (Hollywood, FL/Cooper City) returns
as the lone starter in the backend of the Wilmington defense. He opened his career with a pair of interceptions, including one for touchdown, in the season opener. Higgins is the lone defensive back with significant playing experience as Wilmington lost three starters in the secondary. Junior Sam Tedtman (Louisville, KY/Atherton) played in 10 games, mostly on special teams, and recorded just eight tackles. Sophomore Tyrone Jenkins (Akron, OH/Kenmore) played sparsely toward the end of the season and finished with nine tackles. “It’s not easy replacing over 250 tackles in just three guys (Tarrell Starckey, Cody Reigelsperger and Amari Bryant), and we don’t need those guy replacing them to come in and try to have 250 tackles,” said Hairston. We need guys to come in and try to make a name for themselves. Senior Grant Brown (Stoutsville, OH/Amanda Clearcreek) returns to handle the kicking duties, and will compete with sophomore Brandon Roberts (Tipp City, OH/Tippecanoe) and Creditt for the punting duties. Brown was 14-of-16 on PAT attempts and 1-of-4 in field goals. Roberts punted four times last season with an average of 37.5 yards, while Creditt punted 19 times with an average of 35.1 yards. Wilmington opens the 2016 season 1:30 p.m. September 3 at Bluffton.

Head Coach Stacey Hairston Stacey Hairston is in his fourth season as the head football coach at Wilmington College. The Fightin’ Quakers are 1-29 in his three seasons. It will be his fifth season overall as a head coach, and he
6
has an overall record of 7-33. The former professional football player with the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns spent both his collegiate playing career and a dozen years as an assistant coach at conference rival Ohio Northern University. Hairston spent the past season as the defensive coordinator at Bluefield College (VA) in the school’s first varsity season. The Columbus native also served for two seasons as an assistant coach for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. “I have coached in the OAC and have seen Wilmington from afar,” Hairston said. “It’s a good, quality school in a good location. The location is ideal; near Cincinnati, Springfield, Dayton and Columbus. You have to hit those areas hard to have a chance.” Not only does Hairston bring extensive coaching experience to the table, he played professional football for seven years. After being signed as a free agent in 1989 by the Dallas Cowboys, Hairston spent a year in Dallas before playing three seasons north of the border as a three-year starting defensive back for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
He returned to the NFL for three seasons with the Cleveland Browns, where he was an integral part of the league’s top-ranked defense in 1994. Hairston coached ONU’s defensive backs and special teams for seven seasons After a short stint as the team’s interim head coach, he was promoted to co-defensive coordinator and co-special teams coordinator, where he stayed until 2008.

Harris brings more than 13 years of college coaching experience to Wilmington, and will serve as the team’s Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. He comes to Wilmington from Lawrence University, where served as the team’s interim head coach for the final nine games of the 2014 season, as well as the team’s recruiting coordinator and offensive line coach. Prior to Lawrence, Harris spent three seasons at Manchester College (IN) as the Offensive Line Coach and Director of Football Operations. He gained experience with play calling, serving as the junior varsity offensive coordinator. Other than a one-year stint at Muhlenberg to start his career, Harris has always served as a collegiate offensive line coach; Beloit (2008-10), Minot State University (2007-08), Iowa Wesleyan (2004-07) and Ellsworth Community College (2001-04).
Marque Jones Receivers Marque Jones has been an integral part of Wilmington College football for more than three decades. Jones stresses all phases of the wide receiver position, and the results speak for themselves. Four Wilmington College receivers — most recently Jon Cain — have received All-American honors under Jones’ tutelage. A native of Miami, Fla., Jones was a two-year starter at Curley High School, graduating in 1969. During his collegiate career with the Quakers, Jones was a four-year letter winner (1973-76) at wide receiver. He caught 39 career passes for 620 yards, averaging 15.8 yards per reception. His most productive season was 1975, when he hauled in 21 receptions for 310 yards. Jones graduated from Wilmington in 1977 with a business administration degree and attended University of Cincinnati on a graduate honor scholarship. In 1979, he received a master’s in marketing from UC. Jones and his wife, Terri, reside in Wilmington.
Will Isaac Running Backs
Will Isaac returns to the Quaker sideline for his 14th year as an assistant coach and ninth season as running backs coach. Isaac is no stranger to the position he coaches. In 2002, he became just the fifth running back in Wilmington College history to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark in a season when he gained 1,006 yards in 10 games. In 2001 he narrowly missed the 1,000-yard plateau, rushing for 901. Despite an injury-shortened career, Isaac ranks third in Wilmington College history in career rushing yards with 2,191, second in rushing attempts with 545 and fourth in rushing touchdowns with 17. Isaac, his daughter, Mya Jackson, and his wife, Kim, reside in Wilmington.
9 Will Bowman Linebackers

2015 Recap
The Wilmington College football team kicked off the season snapping a 23-game losing streak with a 17-14 victory over Bluffton. The Fightin’ Quakers finished the season 1-9 overall, 0-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. “The 2015 season was a year where we were able to win our first game to start that season, but due to our overall youth and inexperience, was not able to get a “W” the rest of the season,” said Wilmington head coach Stacey Hairston. “We made many strides throughout the year and had some amazing plays made by some of our players. Our football program continues to grow and improve across the board. I am looking forward to see what next season brings. We will be a year older with another year of experience for most of the team. As we continue to grow, so do our expectations. We expect to continue to build on the improvements that we have made thus far and get us closer to our goal of competing for an OAC title.” Senior Tarrell Starckey (Richmond, VA/Highland Springs) was third in the OAC with 104 tackles, which were the most for any defensive back. For his efforts, he was named third-team All-North region and first-team All-OAC. It was the second time in his WC career, Starckey earned first team recognition from the league. Starckey was one of five Wilmington players earning All-OAC laurels. Junior David Henry (Wilmington, OH/ # Def. Wilmington) and senior Justin Lee (Middletown, OH/Madison) were named second team, while seniors Nick Williams (Cleveland, OH/Fairview) and Amari Bryant (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) earned honorable mention honors. Not only did Henry perform exceptionally on the field, he was stellar in the classroom. He led all OAC defensive linemen in tackling and forced fumbles and ranked second in the league with seven sacks and third with 12.5 tackles for loss. Henry also tallied a 4.0 GPA in the classroom, and was named CoSIDA first-team Academic All-American. It was the first time since 2004 a football player earned the academic honor. “Offensively we showed that we can score in big ways,” said Hairston. “We had many big plays over 30 yards. Defensively, for most of the season, we led the OAC in creating turnovers finishing second overall. We improved in just about every defensive category and had four defensive players named All OAC. Our special teams units showed much improvement as well, especially with our kickoff return units.” Joining Henry on the academic All-OAC team were senior Kyle Davis (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington), sophomore Samuel Tedtman (Louisville, KY/Atherton), sophomore Ryan Prince (Urbana, OH/Urbana) and sophomore Kentrell Lodge (Cleveland, OH/Salem (GA)).

Gary Worthy and Brandon Tisdale are part of Wilmington College’s All-American tradition. Worthy, a three-time All-American running back for the Quakers, still owns every single-season and career rushing record 30 years after his storied WC career ended. A standout defensive tackle, Tisdale was the last Quaker to earn multiple All-American honors. He was honored in 2003 and 2004 for his exploits on the gridiron. Nearly a decade later, he still holds the career record for sacks and tackles for loss. Since 1972, 76 Quakers have earned All-American honors, the most recent being Jeremy Duncan in 2013. In the classroom, the Quakers have been equally accomplished with 25 WC football players receiving either Academic All-American or Academic All-District honors since 1982. Who will be the next Quaker to make national headlines? Stay tuned ‌ the next All-American or Academic All-American could be taking the field or heading to the classroom this season.

Athletic Training at Wilmington College SPECIALISTS IN THE PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION OF SPORTS INJURIES Athletic training is an exciting and fast-paced allied medical profession. As an integral member of the athletic healthcare team, the certified athletic trainer (ATC) is educated in prevention, treatment, evaluation and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries and illnesses sustained by physically active people. Certified athletic trainers work closely with medical professionals in a wide range of settings that include high schools, colleges and universities, professional teams, sports medicine clinics, corporate fitness facilities and hospitals. In 2012, Wilmington’s athletic training program earned the maximum seven-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Students completing the Bachelor of Science degree program at WC are eligible for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) examination to become a certified athletic trainer. Students also are eligible for the Ohio licensing exam upon earning their ATC credentials. All athletic training students are considered pre-professional during their first two semesters. After satisfactory completion of the pre-professional requirements, students are advanced to the professional phase of the curriculum, including advanced clinical education. WC ATHLETIC TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP All students accepted into the athletic training program receive $5,000 in the scholarships over three years. Students receive $1,500 their sophomore and junior years, and $2,000 their senior year. ATHLETIC TRAINING INTERNSHIPS WC interns get to experience first-hand the full scope of sports medicine. Some of WC’s most recent internship sites in the CincinBeacon Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine and many area clinics and high schools. NATIONAL PROGRAM RECOGNITION Wilmington students have received an unprecedented six NATA scholarships. One graduate earned the highest score on the national certification exam. As a school founded by Quakers, Wilmington College embraces persons from all backgrounds, faiths and philosophies, and promotes in its program and activities such values as integrity, diversity, community, service, peace and social justice, and respect for all persons. The college also values international cultures and facilitates courses in global studies, as well as accommodating long-and short-term study-abroad and touring opportunities. While Wilmington offers such popular majors as education, business administration, biology, criminal justice, sports management, social work and pre-professional, some of its more unique academic areas are the highly acclaimed agriculture program and its athletic training/sports medicine program, which are considered among the best in the nation. Popular co-curricular activities for students are the numerous campus organizations at Wilmington that range from fraternities and sororities to faith-based groups, music and drama, publications, student government and service learning. Wilmington regularly hosts entertainment programs designed especially for college students, as well as those open to the greater community such as its highly acclaimed annual peace symposium and Issues & Artists Series, which has brought to campus unique entertainers, provocative and informative speakers, and entities representing diverse American and international cultures. Much has changed at Wilmington College since students gained national fame for building a dormitory in 1948. But a constant throughout the college’s 142-year history has been the transforming nature of the Wilmington College experience. Students leave Wilmington with the tools to succeed as they engage in careers or further their education in today’s rapidly changing world. They also bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from the liberal arts, the embodiment of well-rounded individuals able to think critically and appreciate the role the arts, sciences and humanities play in a fulfilling life. They also realize that service to others is often an important road to self-realization. Indeed, since 1870, Wilmington College has prepared students to make a living, make a life and make a difference.

Why We Play Division III Athletics It’s not about getting a scholarship, getting drafted, or making SportsCenter. It’s a deep need in us that comes from the heart. We need to practice, to play, to lift, to hustle, to sweat. We do it all for our teammates and for the student in our calculus class that we don’t even know. We don’t practice with a future major league first baseman; we practice with a future sports agent. We don’t lift weights with a future Olympic wrestler; we lift with a future doctor. We don’t run with a future Wimbledon champion; we run with a future CEO. It’s a bigger part of us than our friends and family can understand. Sometimes we play for 2,000 fans; sometimes 25. But we still play hard. You cheer for us because you know us. You know more than just our names. Like all of you, we are students first. We don’t sign autographs. But we do sign graduate school applications, MCAT exams, and student body petitions. When we miss a kick or strike out, we don’t let down an entire state. We only let down our teammates, coaches, and fans. But the hurt is still the same. We train hard, lift, throw, run, kick, tackle, shoot, dribble, and lift some more, and in the morning we go to class. And in that class we are nothing more than students. It’s about pride - in ourselves, in our school. It’s about our love and passion for the game. And when it’s over, when we walk off that court or field for the last time, our hearts crumble. Those tears are real. But deep down inside, we are very proud of ourselves. We will forever be what few can claim ...
