Summertime! It’s car culture’s season of choice. It’s the time of year many of us actually enjoy driving. It means road trips, cruising the coastline, or just a way to stay cool in the sizzlin’ heat. Is there anything better than spending half a Saturday detailing your own car, making sure the interior is spotless and the paint looks factory fresh? This summer also marks the debut of the 2011 Ford Fiesta that will hit showrooms is arguably the hottest hatch to hit the market in a quite a while. L.A.’s up-and-coming music producers, Los Twiins, are singing the praises of their Fiesta and are showcasing it in their new reality show on Mun2. Los Twiins also elaborate on how they’ve come to dominate the music charts with their “Musica Alternado” that fuses Latin music with pop and hip-hop. T-Pain is giving his fans something to look forward to and smile about with the release of his next album, RevolveR. He’s also turned into a “gearhead,” as he plans to be trickin’ out cars as part owner of Auto Extremes in Georgia. First on his list of customers was himself, of course, as he transformed his 1972 Impala into his “Joker” ride. The summer blockbusters have just started to send millions of moviegoers to the theaters. Of all the highly anticipated flicks for 2010, one we’ve been paying special attention to is the return of the misfit mercenaries of the A-Team! We’ve got the skinny on the modern take of this ‘80’s classic with the killer casting that includes Rampage Jackson, Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper and Jessica Biel.

JC’s Custom Paint in Bellflower has become L.A.’s go-to spot for the sickest paint jobs around. Once owner Christian “The Kandy Man” Castellanos gets his hands on your ride, you’ll have a masterpiece on four wheels, as evidenced by his latest amazing BMW 6 featured in this issue. JVC’s Turn Me On video, featuring The All-American Rejects, is getting everyone’s attention, as they showcase their latest car audio gear. If that’s not enough to get you going, the piece plays out like an MTV music video, complete with the hot women and cars just for added measure. We’ve got the whole AAR crew to talk all about it, from the inside of their trusty “broken-in” tour van “Boobs.”

We’re currently in the middle of our 2010 DUB Show Tour and so far it’s been an awesome year. This issue covers the Philly Auto Show stop, as well as our bangin’ L.A. show that is going down in DUB Show Tour history as one of L.A.’s best, so make sure to check it out, like, NOW! To give you a small preview of show coverage for the next issue, know that our New York and Memphis stops were insane! The New York Auto Show always displays the latest and best cars and concepts, but when paired with the DUB Show Tour (our first year there), it was on a whole other level. Martino Auto Concepts impressed everyone with their Ferrari Enzo, while Moble Werkz had one bad ass beast with their armored Ford F550. For Memphis, we went and killed it with the finest cars, the hottest acts and tons of interactive booths that were always crowded. Extreme Motorsports impressed us all with their fleet of vehicles, espeically Yo Gotti’s Porsche Panamera. You’re going to have to wait until Issue 67 to get the full scoop, or simply log onto www.dubshowtour.com for more coverage and info on everything DUB Show Tour related! Our DUB Edition Monster Energy drink has become so popular that it will now come in a resealable 18.6-ounce can and is available wherever Monster Energy drinks are sold. If you haven’t tried it by now, you don’t know what you’re missing out on, so hurry to your nearest store and grab one! DUB is also excited to announce our collaboration with Ford and Roush Industries for the DUB Edition 2011 Ford Mustang, hitting dealerships later this summer. The DUB Edition ’Stang is based on Ford’s outstanding new 3.7-liter V-6 Mustang and is a serious head turner. It’ll be offered as a coupe, convertible or with the best-of-both-worlds Glass Roof option, as well as be offered in both six-speed manual and automatic transmission options. Also look out for more features on custom rides from everyday car culture enthusiasts like you! CYPRESS HILL IS BACK!

THE BOXING LEGEND

Man, it’s about time Cypress Hill dropped a release! Six yearss without some dope joints is d way too long. I was getting tired of listening to the same old sh*t that’s always on the radio nowadays. It’s time for some quality music and Cypress Hill iss just the group to bring it back! West Coast is back in effect! Juan A. Via e-mail I think we’ve ALL been waiting for Cypress Hill to release their new album, Juan! Six years is way too long for us, too, and we’re seriously doing some heavy rotation of every song on their Rise Up release. We definitely agree that West Coast music is on the rise and Cypress Hill’s latest is just the beginning of good things to come!

I have to give Bernard Hopkins props for being his age and still fighting. He’s one of the old school fighters that newcomers in the game look up to. There’s no doubt that he’ll go down in boxing history as a legend. I wonder how far he’ll take his career though? There’s only so much a fighter his age can take. Gary P. Via e-mail Bernard Hopkins is really a phenomenal person and boxer, Gary. He went all 12 rounds in his fight against Roy Jones Jr. this past April to win by unanimous decision, which means he still has a lot of heart left in him, and who knows when he’ll call it quits. Even though he has no set plans to retire anytime soon, one thing for sure is that when he does decide to give up boxing, the sport will still be lucky to have Hopkins around with his involvement with Golden Boy Productions.

ADVANCED AUTOMOTIVE CONCEPTS 2010 CAMARO ORACLE SMD HALO KITS WWW.AACSTYLE.COM | INFO@AACSTYLE.COM | (800) 407-5776

The 2010 Chevy Camaro is currently at the top of the customization car list and Advanced Automotive Concepts now offers special Halo kits that either replace existing RS Halos or add Halos to non-RS housing. ORACLE SMD’s* line outshine factory RS Halo Rings by more than 800 percent, and produce a more vibrant and consistent type of lighting by using close to 100 high-powered SMDs compared to the single LED used in the RS ring. ORACLE SMD Halos have a runtime of over 100,000 hours of continuous use and come with a lifetime warranty, so if they don’t outlive the life of your vehicle, they’ll be replaced free of charge. Customers can choose Dual-Color Halos in any special-order color combination, which can change a “theme” color and a “street” color with a flip of a switch. Colors available include: White, Red, Blue, Amber (Orange),

BORLA ATAK WWW.BORLA.COM

BORLA’s new ATAK (Acoustically-Tuned Applied Kinetics) exhaust technology produces the highest decibel levels in the BORLA street-legal lineup, and is designed for high-performance enthusiasts who prefer a more aggressive sounding exhaust. ATAK’s focus is to increase the volume while still retaining clarity of sound, and avoiding distortion typically found in louder exhausts. ATAK tunes the sound output like a graphic equalizer to shape and focus sound waves for optimum high-volume output. The development of each ATAK system begins with an extensive study of each vehicle’s acoustical properties. The technology is based on customtuned attributes of the internal muffler cores, which are calibrated on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis to deliver the most desirable sound. For the 2010 6.2L V8 Camaro there is a Cat-Back (PN 140356) and Rear Section (PN 11788) for models without the “Ground Effects” option, and a rear section (PN 11794) designed to complement the Ground Effects kit.

ELECTRIC CAR PURCHASES SLIM WITH AMERICANS A survey conducted by Consumer Reports shows that out of 1,752 adults, 72 percent were unlikely to buy an EV. Currently, aside from a small few that can afford a Tesla Roadster and those with limited

requirements that can use an EV, there are no affordable EV choices anyway. That percentage might change when we see what EVs Ford, Nissan and GM come out with.

FERRARI 599 GTB FIORANO HYBRID Ferrari added a lightweight hybrid drivetrain to the 599 GTB Fiorano with the aim of ensuring that vehicle dynamics are unaffected. The 599 concept has a modified version of the Getrag dual-clutch gearbox found in

the 458 Italia and the California with a 100-hp motor, while two lithiumion battery packs with a combined 3-kWh capacity are located under the chassis, where they help to lower the center of gravity without disturbing

underbody airflow. In addition, a part of the weight gained by fitting the electric motor, generator and the batteries is offset by being able to do away with the traditional starter motor and battery.

McLAREN BUILDING EFFICIENT AND HYBRID SPORTS CARS McLaren has committed itself to finding ways on producing the lowest carbon emissions per horsepower of any car for sale and plans to do so by setting its targets on reduced weight. According to Mark Vinnels, McLaren

Automotive’s program director, weight is the enemy of what they’re trying to achieve. “Our focus will be on achieving the best lightweight solutions at the given price point.” Powertrains won’t be neglected

when it comes to efficiency either. While no set information has been released, McLaren officials did mention that they will be releasing something that’s a sports hybrid in the near feature.

PLUG-IN HYBRIDS AND YOUR ELECTRIC BILL Many wonder if Toyota’s plug-in Prius will affect their electric bill for an overnight charge, and although no official info has been released from Toyota yet, analysts believe the increase will be minimal. Plug In

America, a California-based network of electric vehicle and (self-converted) plug-in hybrid owners, estimates the cost to charge a typical plug-in hybrid overnight to be less than a dollar. It’s also important to keep in mind that

regular hybrids cost between $2,000 and $10,000 more than their gasonly counterparts, and that plug-in hybrids will likely cost even more due to their larger, better batteries and other more advanced technologies.

AUDI A8 HYBRID CONCEPT Its two propulsion units – a 2.0 TFSI and an electric motor – develop a total output of 245 hp of system power and 354.03 lb.-ft. of torque, which allows the hybrid to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 7.6

PORSCHE 918 SPYDER HYBRID CONCEPT Porsche’s 918 Spyder concept combines high-tech racing features with electric-mobility to offer an emission level of just 70 grams of CO2 per mile with a fuel consumption of only 78 mpg. This car, however, is intended to offer the performance of a sports car with an acceleration from 0-62 mph in just under 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 198 mph. It actually did a lap time on the Nürburgring (in Nordschleife, Germany) in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT.

seconds and achieve a top speed of 211. mph. Yet its average fuel consumption amounts to only 38 mpg, with a CO2 equivalent of about 231.75 g/mile. The energy storage system of the Audi A8

hybrid is mounted in the rear section. This state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery is more compact and weighs less than other types but is substantially more powerful.

KS-AR8002D ARSENAL AMPLIFIER $449.95 As the world’s smallest true digital power amplifiers, the KS-AR8002D amp produces less heat and more power with crystal clear output, making them the ideal setup for a multi-amp system or a perfect addition for subwoofers. Its small size allows it to also be hidden out of sight, or, stack mounted with additional amps for a custom look. It features a continuous power output of 150W RMS x 2 at 4 ohms, or 170W RMS x 2 at 2 ohms bridged. Its frequency response of 5-40kHz. CS-ARS650 ARSENAL COMPONENT SPEAKERS $299.95 With an illuminated crossover network and a glass fiber laminated hemp cone that creates a smooth transition between woofer and tweeter crossover frequencies, the CS-ARS650 6.5-inch, 2-way component speakers feature 240W Max./80W RMS and a frequency response of 35Hz-32,000Hz. A slim design allows for installation in a wider range of cars. The CS-ARS650 Arsenal component speakers are now available.

PIONEER “STAGE 4” WWW.PIONEERELECTRONICS.COM

Pioneer’s “Stage 4” products are their complete ultra performance audio system designed and engineered for car audiophiles and music enthusiasts seeking the ultimate in-vehicle listening experience available. DEX-P99RS DIGITAL MEDIA PLAYER $1,349 As the heart of Pioneer’s “Stage 4” products is the DEX-P99RS single CD tuner/digital media player, built to produce an extremely high level of sound quality, signal processing and media playback flexibility. It features a highperformance 32-Bit digital signal processor (DSP) that provides the signal processing power for dual (left and right) 31-band equalization, digital time alignment for all pre-amp outputs and a 4-way digital crossover network. TS-C172PRS COMPONENT SPEAKERS $999 The TS-C172PRS 6.75-inch component speakers consist of a soft dome tweeter, high performance mid-woofer and an audiophile grade crossover network. The tweeter and mid-woofer of the TS-C172PRS component speaker package features oversized diaphragms for extended frequency response combined with neodymium motor structures to maximize installation flexibility. PRS-A900 AMPLIFIER $1,699 The PRS-A900 is a 4-channel reference amplifier that features an independent, symmetrically isolated circuit board intended to prevent noise, both in the form of electrical interference and physical vibration, from entering the audio signal path. Copper shielding bars in a T-shaped pattern are used to isolate key components from the internal power supply section, blocking any potentially radiated electrical noise that may distort the signal. This simple and clean circuit design ensures that the PRS-A900 acts only to “amplify” the signal, not to alter or “color” the sound in any way. The result is pure, clean, and powerful music.

JL AUDIO MOBILE.JLAUDIO.COM

C2-650 COMPONENT SPEAKERS $299.95/PAIR The C2-650 component system features 6.5-inch woofers with rugged polypropylene cones that can handle high power without distortion, so you get full-bodied low tones you can really feel. The separate 3/4” silk dome tweeters serve up smooth-sounding high frequencies that won’t tax your ears, adding a satisfying dose of realism to your soundstage. PWM112-WX SUBWOOFER SYSTEM $399.95 The PowerWedge MAX PWM112-WX features a hard-hitting 12” WX subwoofer with a polypropylene cone and durable foam surround for reliable reproduction. Patented cooling and construction technologies help keep the bass accurate when the going gets hot, while the heavy-duty voice coil resists thermal breakdown. The amp features oversized output transistors and high-tech power supplies for strong, stable output — 175 watts RMS gives the sub the proper juice to keep the thump coming. They have high quality products that are easy to install with a zero failure rate.” Gormley also dropped the suspension, stripped all the chrome, painted all the moldings, took off all the badges, added a performance exhaust and spruced up the interior.

“I get quite a lot of stares when I drive it around,” he says about his daily-driven Maserati. “Driving this car around town demonstrates to people that I can do a great job on any car. I may be only 27 years old, but the work on the Maserati speaks for itself, and when clients see the superior mods, it provides them a sense of trust in allowing me to do their high-end vehicles.” MAY / JUN 2010

illy Gormley, owner of Audio Creations in Boca Raton, Florida, has turned an already amazing-looking 2009 Maserati Gran Turismo into a unique piece of art, while still keeping much of its factory stock settings. Many might wonder why you’d even touch the superior styling cues of an already great vehicle, but Gormley begs to differ. ter “You still want to personalize cars, no matter what type they are,” he asserts. “When you gett to the point where you can buy the car you love,, you don’t want to see others driving the same type you are. You want to make sure it stands out from the rest and make it more your own.” Once a year, Gormley and his crew take it upon themselves to do a project vehicle that demonstrates their car modifying skills, which also happens to be their “it” car for the year. Since the shop does a lot of work for local Maserati dealers in the area, it was only natural that Audio Creations would use the Gran Turismo as their car of choice. “I haven’t seen anyone else modify a Gran Turismo like we have,” he comments. “We wanted it to be a bit more aggressive in terms of styling, but at the same time keep a bit of a factory feel to it.” For this particular build (which also happens to be his own personal ride) Gormley took a $129,000-Maserati and invested $37,500 in aftermarket products, including a pretty impressive JL Audio sound system. “If you look at the car’s stereo, it looks like it’s stock, but little do you know that it has more

L

os Angeles…the home of many musical greats is about to get taken over by two up-and-coming producers, Los Twiins. Los hermanos Adolfo and Omar Valenzuela are big names within the Latin music genre, but they’re soon going to be huge within the general music scene after the world sees their talent en el nuevo reality TV show on Mun2. They’ve helped make the City of Angels the home base for música Regional Mexicana and have produced top acts like Paulina Rubio, Calle 13, Thalía, Jenny Rivera and La Banda del Recodo y muchos mas. The show, “Los Twiins,” will depict the brothers’ daily lives and their work as producers, as well as day-to-day operations of their production company, Twiins Enterprises based in Burbank, CA. Each episode will capture the adventures of los hermanos, the type of lifestyle they live as they produce their musical hits and strategize their crossover endeavors, while discovering new talent. To help move Los Twiin’s aventuras as they become musical staples in L.A., they’ve enlisted the help of Ford’s new 2011 Fiesta that’s making its way back to the States after a 32-year absence. El Ford Fiesta first arrived in as a 1978 model as a response to the oil crisis in the ’70s, but was discontinued in North America to make room for the 1981 Ford Escort. However, it still thrived and evolved in European markets, creating its current reputation as top of its class. “It’s been a top-seller in Europe and has a ton of heritage and a loyal fan base, and it’s the right time for us to bring back the car in the U.S.,” says Samuel De La Garza, Ford’s Brand Manager for the Fiesta. Designed and developed as Ford’s first ONE global car, the Ford Fiesta in America gets some added extras in terms of styling and technology, as well as impressive performance figures. “Global to us means being able to take this platform and the content in it and expand on it in global markets,” De La Garza explains. “The ONE Ford global car really also means having a manufacturing footprint that can really support different regions around the world.” Ford will have five plants around the world supporting the global volume of the Fiesta, with the plant in North America supporting Mexico, Canada and several countries in Latinoamérica. “Another part of the global story is being able to use the same name and content so that

We’re taking the hip-hop world into the Mexican side of music with its corridos and banda music. It’s more than music to us—it’s a lifestyle. It’s in the way we dress, talk and the different things we do to incorporate it into our everyday lives.” “We believe que el mundo hip-hop y la música Mexicana están conectados. It’s a new generation of artists and music we’re coming out with,” Omar adds. “We want to build this new generation of musicians, singers, writers and everyone who wants to join.” Leading the way for Mexican music and its popularity, Los Twiins are definitely ushering a new change in 2010, in both music and television. “Everything you hear is going to sound more up to date. It’s time for Mexican music to get the recognition it deserves and we’re here to do that. Todo lo viejo se va y entra una nueva generación,” dice Omar. t’s been a hot minute since T-Pain was on the cover of DUB , but his unique sound and mold-breaking music is still a hot commodity. In fact, a lot has changed for the R&B/hip-hop sensation in the last couple of years, including his most striking ride, the 1972 Chevy Impala ragtop, which was featured in the September 2007 issue of DUB Magazine. In case many of you don’t recall, T-Pain’s unique old school was layered in orange candy flake paint, sported chrome accents and featured actual alligator tails stitched into its ultra-smooth leather upholstery. What you see now has been transformed into his “Joker” ride. The story behind its radical transformation, according to T-Pain, is that after he finished some collabo work with DJ Khaled, Khaled bought him another Impala to thank him for the work. “I was, like, ‘Guess it’s time to change the old one,” he says. He took it to Auto Extremes in Atlanta, GA and transformed it into the green “Joker.” “I was already thinking of changing it, so I said, ‘Let’s f*cken paint this thing, and we might as well change the interior and everything.” In terms of the “Joker” theme, T-Pain mentions that it came from a dream.

T-Pain’s 1972 Chevrolet Impala Convertible from Issue 47 has drastically been changed into his “Joker” ragtop by Auto Extremes.

“I had a green Bentley that looked like that movie back in the ‘80s when the trucks came alive and were evil, and so when I woke up, I was, like, ‘That’s what the Impala needs.’” Auto Extremes was more than happy to comply with T-Pain’s requests given he’s now a part of the shop and working with them on a new wheel line coming out later this year that’ll be called “RevolveR,” which is also what his upcoming album will be called. “I go way back with Auto Extremes,” he says. “They’ve done all my

cars and it was just something that happened. Nobody asked nobody to be partners and it was just an automatic union. I started bringing them business and they hooked up my rides and then it became a partnership. I thought, ‘Why not team up with these guys so we can both make some money?’” While he’s not exactly involved in the shop’s day-to-day business, he is pretty active in the new wheel line that he considers to be “so dope.” “We trying to go from the big Donks in Florida to the small Hondas in Japan,” he describes about the type of market he’s reaching for. “We goin’ really hard on this.” While no specifics are available yet, he did mention that the design process is still something he’s working on and that everything will be ready when his RevolveR album drops. So what can fans expect from Mr. Auto-Tune himself on the upcoming album? “It’s got more of a wide range of music on it since I’m trying to reach more people now,” he explains. “I got me some new audiences now, I don’t just want to be a one-box-sounding T-Pain. I have to do a lot more kinds of music now for everybody to love.” But don’t think he’s totally going to

T-Pain’s Camaro rides on 24-inch Status Dystany wheels with Pirelli PZero 275/25R24 tires, but will more than likely get a sick makeover by Auto Extremes in the coming months.

abandon his signature style, which had us all singing along to past hits like “I’m Sprung” and “I’m In Luv (Wit a Stripper).” “I still got the same T-Pain flow going on for everybody who loves it, but I’ve added some house music, a bit of electro rock stuff, some countrysounding music on there, too. But no matter what, it’ll still have a hip-hop and R&B feel to it.” And of course, expect his signature Auto-Tune voice to make every song a T-Pain classic, something that’s actually caught on throughout the industry since he first jumped on scene with it. “I’m kind of flattered actually,” he laughs. “I did something good and ran with it, but you’re only as good as you make it. You still have to make good songs though, and that’s not what’s happening with these new tunes that have it. There’s still the possibility of using it wrong.” And who better to know this than T-Pain himself, who actually studied how to use it so that it blends perfectly with his voice without ever over doing it. “I read up on it and saw how it was made,” he explains. “I talked to the dude that invented it, and I really learned how to work it so that it sounds good. People now just throw it on their voice and wail around some notes, which is disrespectful and pisses me off a whole lot.” But he won’t get mad if you try it yourself and download his “I am T-Pain” iPhone app that allows you to Auto-Tune your voice, which just happens to be one of the best selling apps since it dropped last year. “I saw that Lil Wayne had a phone app, and I was, like, ‘wow,’ he has one and I want one.” The app is doing so well that he’s going to let it ride until he

looks into creating another one. While he’s taking a reactive approach to his future apps, he’s definitely being proactive about his place and mark in the music industry with his Nappy Boy Entertainment label. Still fairly new, T-Pain is growing it to become different from other cookie-cutter labels that have popped up over the years. “What’s gonna make it different is the people I’m going to pick,” he says. “When others try to find others, they always look for the ‘new Diddy.’ But we’re looking for the new nothing. I’m looking for the ‘new you never heard this before,’ so there is nothing familiar about what’s going to come out of my label. People try to get what their audience already likes, so you don’t give them any variation.” Artists that’ll be coming out on T-Pain’s label include Gym Class Hero’s Travis McCoy, Sophia Fresh, Tay Dizm, Young Cash, Once Chance and Shawnna, so be ready to experience some fresh sounds, the T-Pain way. So far, 2010 is looking to be a big year for T-Pain with so many new changes in his life and career. But one thing still remains the same for one of hip-hop’s finest—his beloved Mini Cooper that he ranted and raved about the last time he was in the magazine. “It’s still my favorite out of all my rides,” he laughs. And he has a pretty impressive garage that varies from a drophead Phantom to a Bentley GTC, Lambos and old schools. “It’s small and easy to drive. I can weave in and out of traffic and haul ass anywhere I go. Nothing beats it…not even my Impala.

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.

I

f you were an “A-Team” fan back in the ‘80s, then you knew this intro by memory, as you tuned in every week to see what new adventures the A-Team would endure. And even if you didn’t grow up with the show, you still might catch reruns of the highly popular sitcom on TV Land or have heard about pop-culture icon from the ’80s, Mr. T, who played Sgt. B.A. “Bad Attitude” Baracus, and his famous catch phrase, “I pity the fool...” Forward almost 30 years later and memories of the show’s success have finally made its way to Hollywood, with the June release of 20th Century Fox’s version of The A-Team. Whether you were an avid watcher or simply enjoy TVremake movies, the big screen version definitely has something for everyone. Originally created by Stephen J. Cannell and Frank Lupo back in 1983 (and aired until 1987,) director Joe Carnahan (Narc and Smokin’ Aces) was determined to bring “The A-Team” into the

21st century. “This was a coveted property and re-imagining a show that I remembered from my youth was tough to turn down,” Carnahan says. “We wanted to still be respectful of the series’ origins for fans, but also wanted to turn it into a modern story.” Hollywood had been interested in the idea for more than a decade, but the scripts that surfaced just didn’t make the cut. That was until Carnahan and his writing partner, Brian Bloom, decided to take the traditional story of four Vietnam vets who were sentenced by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit, into four covert operatives who served in the Iraq war.

60 DUB MAG MAY / JUN 2010

The story of Col. John “Hannibal” Smith, Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck, Sgt. B.A. “Bad Attitude” Baracus and H.M. “Howlin’ Mad” Murdock and their quest to clear their names while helping those in need remains the same, but Carnahan wanted the movie to go beyond the story the series told. “The film really tells the story before the story of the original series,” he says. “But one thing that stays true is the camaraderie and the affection that these four guys have for each other.” And finding the right guys to play these “soldiers of fortune” was also a key ingredient for

the production of The A-Team. “We really needed a cast who would genuinely reflect how these four guys were like family,” Carnahan mentions. What resulted was a spectacular cast that includes Liam Neeson as the team’s leader Hannibal; Bradley Cooper as playboy Faceman; Sharlto Copley as the mentally unstable Murdock; and UFC fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as Baracus. “Rampage nailed the screen test,” Carnahan says. “I can’t think of any one better to play Baracus than him. He really is the modern equivalent of someone like Baracus.” As an avid fan of the show, Rampage recalls watching it

with his dad every week. “I’ve probably seen every episode,” he injects. “TWIICE!” Not trying to fill Mr. T’s shoes while playing Baracus, Rampage mentions that he didn’t do much to prepare for his iconic role and was a bit nervous working with such a talented cast. “It was a great experience to work with great actors,” he says. “It’s really like sparring with great fighters. It brought out the best in me, but at the same time very nerve wracking because I felt to be the weakest link. But they helped me through it and made me a better actor.” Expect to see Rampage sport the character’s trademark Mohawk, without all gold chains or his repetitive “I pity...” phrases. The only pity he’ll be saying is the one (temporary) tattooed across his knuckes, with “P-I-T-Y” on one and “F-O-O-L” on the other. So what can fans expect from the updated Baracus? “You can expect me to say ‘fool’ a lot,” he says laughing. Another update you’ll see in the movie is the A-Team’s iconic van. Inspired by the original 1983 GMC Vandura G15, the 2010 version of the van is the indispensible fifth member of the A-Team. In the series, the van was master mechanic’s B.A.’s most prized possession and was the team’s official mode of transportation. It also had its fair share of accidents, gun battles, insane jumps, and was stripped apart and abused in just about every way you could possibly think of, with B.A. always being able to revive it. Also included in the cast are Jessica Biel as Capt. Charisa Sosa, who shares a complicated past with Face and Yul Vasquez as General Tuco, who is also an avid “A-Team” fan. “I watched it religiously,” he recalls. “I even got a Mr. T rubber stamp, which I still have to this day!” Having always wanted to work with Carnahan, Vasquez was pretty amped to play Gen. Tuco, a character that he describes to be “a really fun villain.”

62 DUB MAG MAY / JUN 2010

“I actually would get into character by hitting tires and boxes and whatever else I could find with an aluminum baseball bat,” he says. “It freaked out some people, but, hey, whatever it takes right?” One thing he enjoyed most about the film was working with the cast and how Carnahan allowed a lot of the cast to improvise. “At one point, I even kissed Bradley on the lips,” he announces. “Don’t think that will make the final cut though!” Too bad because that would be pretty hilarious to see, but Carnahan did mention to stick around after the ending credits to see

some great gag reels. Even before the gag reels, expect more than just your average TV-to-movie remake. “The goal was to make a compelling, inventive action movie, but to keep it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up,” Carnahan says. “We were able to capture the essence of The A-Team, their power and the fun, and translated that into a very modern idea.” And the result, as Rampage puts it, is “a movie with a lot of action, a great plot and just a fun movie!”

C’s Custom Paint has built a reputation as the go-to paint shop in So Cal. Owned by 24-yearold Christian Castellanos, aka Chris, the shop is famous for its custom paint schemes that will make any ride stand out. From glossy-finished candies, to shiny pearls, flakes, chameleons that change color in the sun to waterbased paint jobs, Chris and his crew have perfected the art of oneoff paint schemes, which is why his shop has become a very hot commodity for those in the know within the scene. While the shop has been in the Bellflower community for years, it was merely three years ago that Chris became owner and began to grow his reputation as a leading shop. “A lot of stuff going on right now,” he says. “Everybody is talking about me and the shop. Pretty much, everybody is saying that JC’s is the hot, number one spot in California to get paint jobs and everything.” For the first two years, it was only Chris doing all the paint work, which is how he got his moniker around town as “The Kandy Man.” While many might know JC’s for their impeccable paint jobs, they also specialize in being a one-stop customization shop and really do anything a client requests. If you come in for a paint job, you can also walk out with the whole nine yards and then some! “We do all types of aftermarket work, from full paint, to custom

candies, silver leafing, grille painting and more. We even do collision and insurance work.” Right now the shop is busier than ever, with non-stop business coming in daily. With business booming, he has about 20 to 30 cars at any given time. Chris may get requests for lots of various jobs, but they always seem to include some type of enhancement to the car’s exterior paint scheme, especially clients who are members of

top car clubs in L.A. and the surrounding cities. “They love the work and the results, so I try to hook them up as much as possible so that they feel comfortable with me,” he mentions. “At the end of the day, it’s just business no matter what car club you’re representing, and we provide quality work no matter where you’re from.” Although he may be young, Chris is no stranger to the business and has been immersed in it since he was nine, while hanging around at his uncle’s shop after school. Chris later perfected his customization skills working at a dealership when he was 18 and knew that owning his own shop would be his ultimate goal. He eventually saved enough money to finally purchase JC’s Custom Paint by the time he was 22, and with a lot of hard work and perseverance, he’s been able to turn an ordinary, run-of-the-mill body shop into the talk of the town. Boasting quality work with such meticulous detail, Chris has one main goal in mind for his shop, to expand. “I’d like to have two shops,” he comments. “I’d like to keep the location I’m at, but have another location close by, so that I can

take more work and do more jobs.” Despite being the owner, Chris doesn’t mind giving his four employees a hand. In fact, when chaos hits the shop, you’ll find him hard at work, painting cars. He actually painted his own 2006 BMW 645Ci. “For my Bimmer, I mixed three colors in one,” he says. “I used a Kandy Apple Red, Kandy Purple and mixed in some Kandy Wild Cherry [all from

House of Kolor] to get the dark color it has now. I wanted to do something different in terms of the color and wanted to still keep it luxury and sport. I love red and purple and when I mixed it all together, it came out looking pretty good, especially in the sun when all the colors can be seen. You can’t tell if it’s a deep purple or a brandywine.” While at the shop, the stock Bimmer was transformed to an awardwinning vehicle that raised tons of attention at its Anaheim DUB Show debut. “We started by locating the parts and creating a vision for the widebody. I took and modified a Prior Design body kit to fit with the metal widebody, which was crafted by Topo at TS Designs. I added air vents to the exterior, built custom fenders, modified the hood, raised the exhaust and molded a new spoiler wing to the trunk before spraying it with the custom paint.” Treating it as a priceless artifact, Chris doesn’t plan on making it his daily driver. “I don’t want it to be an average car on the road,” he says laughing. “I want it to keep its exclusivity and unique appeal, so that when people see it at shows, they’re still in awe of all that it has. This baby is on lockdown.” Some wise words from a 24-year-old businessman whose future is only filled with success and more award-winning paint jobs.

ou may be looking at the Van and thinking, “What the hell is this?” but don’t be too quick to judge a book by its cover. Behind, what may look like a heap of junk, is actually memories of the early days of The All American Rejects on four wheels. “Meet Boobs,” says Tyson Ritter, The All-American Rejects’ lead singer and bass guitarist. Sitting on a beat-up couch outside of an empty warehouse in Downtown L.A. with the rest of the band, he points to the 1994 GMC Rally and goes on. “We were 15 when we purchased this thing and it has, like, 150,000 miles on it or more and she’s still rolling.” “Boobs” and the band are taking a break from filming their JVC viral video, which is the third installment of the company’s Turn Me On campaign. Written and created by Danny Klein, Creative Director of JVC Mobile Entertainment and directed by Steven Lippman, The All-American Rejects were chosen for the third and biggest campaign yet because of their appeal to a wide variety of rock, punk and pop fans worldwide. “On top of that they are genuinely a really cool bunch of guys who take care of each other and their crew — and they’re really good to their fans. It’s a true family,” Klein explains. In searching for the ideal band for Turn Me On 3, JVC Mobile Entertainment’s General Manager of Marketing, Chad Vogelsong had the tall order of finding a group that could help in topping the success of the two popular Turn Me On campaigns. “After two successful years of the Turn Me On branding franchise, we had to find a way to take this program to the next level and after looking at the music landscape of today, we realized that The All-American Rejects would be a perfect fit for our brand identity. The All-American Rejects’ popularity to our customers and lifestyle message is perfect for the Turn Me On franchise,” Vogelsong says. “JVC came to us and said, ‘We like to jam, we like to vibe and we want to do a little music Internet video with you guys,” Ritter says. “We liked it and said yeah let’s do this and said they would hook up ‘Boobs’ with a sick system and make its exterior a bit more appealing. That’s where DUB came in.” “Yeah, they said we’d murder-out your rims,” chimes in Nick Wheeler, the group’s lead guitarist and keyboardist. “Is that what it’s called?” Ritter asks. “So, yeah that was all DUB.” While Ritter would like it to keep its original appeal, he didn’t mind JVC’s new audio additions to “Boobs.” “It

gets really loud in there now,” he mentions.” JVC’s Turn Me On series follows the same formula every year, says Klein. “Hot girls, dope cars and great bands are all guided into crazy situations by JVC Mobile Entertainment in-dash music players and navigation units.” While JVC products are still displayed, the campaign will have more of a music video feel to it, rather than just a commercial. The first installment of the series featured Josh and Jacoby from Buckcherry and Papa Roach, where they were depicted in a dream sequence car wash by a harem of wet and soapy girls, while part two had The Darling Stilettos and Charm City Devils as they raced toward an outdoor party in the rain with plenty of other party goers and fans. For this year’s series video, The All-American Rejects will be involved in a crazy car chase scene that leads 10 hot girls and the band to a secret rock show in Downtown L.A. Currently, the series has a total of 19 million viewers to date and JVC hopes to break the record with the latest one. The songs that will play throughout the video include The All-American Rejects’ hits like “Dirty Little Secret,” “Breakin,’” “Real World,” and “Night Drive.” “This year’s video is a true collaborative effort between The All-American Rejects and JVC and guarantees to turn people on with music, lifestyle and technology,” Vogelsong says.

“When coming up with the concept of The All-American Rejects speeding away in their tour bus I was kind of thinking it would be a bit crazy to shoot a huge Prevost Tour bus speeding all over the place, but that problem was solved in a meeting with the label and management when they told us that their original ‘94 GMC tour van ‘Boobs’ was sitting in Tyson’s driveway,” Klein exclaims. “When we got DUB involved with fixing ‘Boobs’ up with new wheels and tires, along with the JVC Mobile Entertainment audio system, it all just came together.” Turns out that “Boobs” is still Tyson’s ride, so he had no problem with DUB adding some style to the old tour bus. “It fired right up after five years of being put out to pasture, and I’ve driven it for the last six years,” Ritter explains. “It’s the only car I have and it gets me laid all the time…kidding about the laid part though.” Some 20-inch American Racing ATX Artillery Teflon wheels were added to keep “Boobs” rolling hard. “Boobs” holds a lot of sentimental value for the guys, having been their

means of transportation when they were just young guys with a dream to be rock stars. If you take a look inside, you’ll find a headliner that looks like a men’s restroom with tons of random writings everywhere. “The first initial writing came from our tour manager back when we were in Monroe, Louisiana,” explains Mike Kennerty, the band’s rhythm guitarist. “He was drunk saying ‘pinky stink. He then took a marker and began to write it on the headliner…it was all down hill from there.”

Drama on the “Fantasy Factory” show:

What’s it like to have Rob as a cousin? Well, it’s a combo between crazy, scary, as well as very inspirational and motivating. You never know what’s going to happen, as you can tell from the show. He’s a little all over the place in terms of pranks and what he sees as fun, whether it’s swimming with sharks or jumping cars 100 feet. But at the same time, he’s the most driven and hardest-working person I’ve ever met. I learn a lot from him. My work ethic and what I’ve learned about the business world is from him. How did the nickname Drama come about? Drama came from Rob when I was young, 10 or 12, and came to L.A. for vacation. He would always joke with me the same way you see on the show, and I believe he was making fun of me one time for having my little Ohio swag going on and that I wanted to be a rapper and he started calling me drama. Never thought of it again, but when I turned 18 and moved to L.A., he showed everyone these photos of me all hip-hopped out and started introducing me as “Drama.”

Drama’s watch is no ordinary Casio G-Shock, with almost 400 stones and a total weight of 5.75 carats and made of 14K white gold. It has a retail price $6,795.00.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve done on the show so far? So far, I’d have to say the craziest thing is scuba diving with sharks and me being attacked by a shark. That was just crazy. Half of the craziness was that we didn’t even know how to scuba dive. On its own, that’s scary. So we dove 50-feet down to a shipwreck, which is where all that shark stuff happened. So you’re down there panicking, hoping your gear is alright and before you know it, this guy comes down with a box full of tuna and we were

e may be Rob Dyrdek’s sidekick on MTV’s “Fantasy Factory,” but there’s more to Chris Pfaff, aka Drama, than you really know. By day, he’s doing crazy ass sh*t with Rob, but by night, he’s trying to create his own empire to become the “White Diddy.” Between his clothing line, Young and Reckless, his production company, Causin’ Drama (aka Drama Beats), and trying to survive the many insane adventures that live in Rob’s creative mind, Drama is hard at work trying to establish himself as more than a common celebrity, but as the ultimate businessman.

surrounded by 20 or 30 sharks…it was insanity! There was nothing I could do but tuck my little arms in and hope for the best. The thing that scared me more was that I asked them if I could swim up to the surface if I got attacked, they were, like, “No, you’re better off taking a shark attack because if you swim to the top too fast your lungs will burst because of the pressure.” So, I was like “Great!” But it was so surreal and crazy. So this new season is really pushing the limits? See, that’s the thing, once you do all these crazy things and MTV decides to do another season, you have no choice but to outdo yourself because you can’t come back for another season and do something half as crazy as you did last time. So yeah, we’re definitely pushing the boundaries once again.

Drama On His Clothing Line:

Why the name “Young and Reckless?” I wanted to create something that created a culture or a following, more like an idea or a way of life almost, so that it’s more than just a name. And to be honest, living in Ohio, I saw how kids would wear brands like Famous Stars and Straps and these kids would really think they were famous ‘cause they had a shirt on that said “Famous.” I saw how that inspired these kids and pumped them up to make them feel they were living differently from what they were. So it was my idea to come up with something that people would feel as if they were a part of it and their lifestyle.

Drama on Drama Beats:

How did your musical interests originate? My dad was a drummer. There was always drum sets in my house and I just messed around with them a lot. I always had this passion for music. The problem was that in Akron, Ohio, there really wasn’t an outlet for music. You could join the high school band or make a band if you want, but nothing really cool. I even joined the school band for a year, but dropped out ‘cause I couldn’t take it. So when I moved to L.A., one of my good friends was a producer and he showed me how to record and that you don’t need a million-dollar studio to make beats. I was instantly hooked on it since it was finally a cool outlet. I went out and bought a keyboard and just did it. Now I have a studio and a production company and it’s really become a passion of mine. What are you currently working on? We’re working with all sorts of people. We’re working really hard to get on Jamie Foxx’s and Rhianna’s next project, which are hot commodities right now. Working with Kevin Rudolf for Rhianna. We just did a couple of records with this kid off of Def Jam and some new acts that will hopefully get big. I’m very hands-on with my music. It takes so much more of creative energy so I’m always involved in it, but in the future, I hope to spread it out a bit in terms of the creative and business. Right now I’m in the studio every night until 4 a.m. All these companies are so young and so new that you just have no choice but to see your vision and run with it.

Drama on Life:

How do you find the time to do the show, your line and your music? Well, thankfully, I can do it from the Fantasy Factory, which I have to thank Rob for that one. He thought of it and gave me the space. That’s the good thing; I don’t have to drive around town.

78 DUB MAG MAY / JUN 2010

Drama’s CLS sits on 20-inch DPE MT7 1-pc Forged Monobloc wheels wrapped in Continental Sport Contact 3 245/30R20 front and 295/25R20 rear tires.

I shoot the show in the morning and then at night is when the music starts. Really, it’s just all about categorizing what you do and just working, working, working. I don’t really have a personal life, but that doesn’t really bother me. If I can make all of these things grow the way they should, then I can worry about having a personal life after. What do you hope to accomplish with all your endeavors? I would like to go as far as it will take me. I’ll call myself the young “White Diddy” maybe? Really if one fails I’ll start something new. My goal is to have more of an empire and do it all and have them all tie into each other. I want to run this whole kind of movement.

Drama on Cars:

What did you like about the Mercedes CLS that made you want to get it? What I liked about it is that it looked so much different than any other car. It really stood out to me. Like how its kind of a coupe but with four doors. Describe your car style/taste? Well I’m a big fan of Ferraris and Lamboghinis. I’m only going to be allowed to get one if all of my work will let me. But one day I’d love to own a fleet of all these ridiculous rides. I was actually joking with Rob the other day about getting a Gallardo just because I love the mental picture of being a young kid in this overly extravagant flashy car. It’s sort of offensive in a good way.

Drama’s three car musts are wheels, tint and a lowered suspension, which his Benz has, in addition to a custom 2.5-inch stainless mandrel bent exhaust for a more aggressive sound.

The musical side of Drama has no problem listening to beats in his CLS that’s equipped with: 2 Kicker Solo Baric L7 subwoofers encased in a custom enclosure; a custom amp rack; 1 Kicker QS65.2 component; 1 Kicker QS60.2 component; all Kicker power wire, fuse holder and accessories; and a Kinetik auto battery.

Which cars do you prefer? What’s your next purchase? I put the cars I want in categories of how much money I want to spend or can spend at the moment. I’m really looking at a CL since that’s the next step from the CLS and if I don’t do that, I’m gonna hold off on it and get real serious in a big boy car; maybe a Gallardo but I’m also a big fan of a DB9, and then of course there’s always Ferrari world. What’s the first thing you do when you modify your car and why? I would say always rims, lowering and tint, automatically. It’s really hard for me to drive a car without those three things done. Most of the time I’ll just drive it to the shop first right after I buy it.

You and Rob have had the “murdered out” and “storm trooper-ed out” rides. What’s the next trend that you guys see coming or are setting? I do have to say that Rob is responsible for both of those; wish I can take credit but I can’t. I know he’s been talking about coming up with some type of colorway for cars the same way you design shoes. It’s tricky since you can only get so crazy with a car until it gets tacky. Seen so many great cars done wrong and it’s a shame. Who has the sickest car game that you know? Pharrell because I know exactly what he has. He owns like two Phantoms, an SLR McLaren, Ferrari Enzo and tons more, but even just that is so beyond crazy.

he Rolls-Royce marque is synonymous with unadulterated wealth and is the benchmark in the world of ultra-luxurious automobiles. Since news initially hit the Internet, the Rolls-Royce Ghost has been lauded the “Baby Phantom,” along with high anticipation of a more “daily driven” ultra-luxury sedan from the British coachbuilder. Upon first glance, the Ghost is unmistakably a Rolls-Royce with its iconic grille, long sweeping hood and muscular and distinguished body lines. The superior fit and finish of the interior cabin [of the Goodwood, England-assembled Ghost] is can be expected: luxurious and classic simple styling combined with all the technological amenities packaged impeccably to create an unsurpassed driving experience. While approximately 17-inches shorter and 3.5 inches lower than the Phantom, the Ghost is no means a “baby,” weighing in at 5,445 lbs and housing the company’s most powerful twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 that produces a manly 563 horsepower at 5,250 rpm and max torque of 575 lb.-ft. at 1,500 rpm. The Ghost can stealthily hit speeds of 155 mph (limited) with an acceleration time of 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds, as witnessed during their worldwide launch on a closed course demonstration in Orange County, CA. A full day of seat time and some personal

82 DUB MAG MAY / JUN 2010

instruction from Rolls-Royce drivers demonstrated the intricate and advanced behind-the-scenes technologies that work together to provide the Ghost its dynamic ride. Acceleration is controlled, fast and effortless with minimal noise coming from its beast of an engine. The advanced Anti-Roll stabilization, air springs and electronically controlled dampers continually adjust the suspension at the slightest of changes to give you a plush ride in normal driving conditions and changes instantly to a sporty and responsive ride when the driving situation calls for it. The course simulated almost every driving situation by traversing through the streets of Newport Coast, stretches of highway and traffic, a private test track, the windy and challenging Ortega Highway (where the Ghost’s handling was truly experienced) and back to the posh Newport Coast setting. Not once, did the Ghost fail in the driving expectations one would have for a Rolls-Royce. The Ghost lives up to its name and prestigious lineage in every way possible, while still exceeding expectations based on its predecessors. In fact, loyal Rolls-Royce enthusiasts and newcomers to the brand will both enjoy all the new offerings the Ghost has to offer, making us believe its potential as a “daily driver” will indeed cause more frequent sightings of the Ghost in the coming months.

his special “Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America” (I.A.V.A.) tribute Hayabusa will make you proud to be an American. Built by Garwood Custom Cycles from Lexington, NC, the I.A.V.A. ’Busa is actually one of three bikes the shop has custom-made in tribute to our men and women fighting for our country overseas. “The bike was commissioned by the I.A.V.A., and we wanted to help draw awareness to the organization and their part in helping out our men and women in the military,” says Steve Garwood, consultant to the shop. “Once the bike sells, all proceeds will go to the I.A.V.A.” The other two bikes that were sold also had all of its proceeds donated to various military charities. The previous two military bikes had more of a camouflage theme, while this one has a Humvee look that also reflects all branches of the military. Built in only two weeks, the bike

features two heart-moving murals that depict the courage and strength of our soldiers. The front features a soldier saluting a fallen comrade with the words “Never Forget,” while the tail section says “Never Leave A Fallen Comrade” and shows one soldier carrying a wounded one. “When people buy these bikes, no matter where they ride or take them, someone will come up and shake their hand and tell a story or memory of their military life,” Garwood comments. “It could be a veteran, an active soldier or even their mother or father. Nowadays, everyone knows at least one person who served in Iraq or Afghanistan.” To honor our troops once again, Garwood Custom Cycles plans to release its fourth military-inspired bike within the next month. “These men and women are risking their lives for our country, so the least we can do is honor their actions in our bikes.”

ALPINE iDA-X305S WWW.ALPINE-USA.COM | $400

Pandora is a music lover’s best friend and Alpine has captured the Internet’s most popular Internet radio service in their new iDA-X305S head unit. It’s the first head unit in the world that offers Pandora’s features in the comfort of your car. For those that don’t know what Pandora is, let us fill you in on what you’re missing out on. Basically, Pandora is a free, personalized Internet radio service that allows users to create their own stations with music they like, based on musical characteristics from an artist or song. So if you have a favorite artist, group or musical genre in general, you’d simply type that

in and songs from whatever you entered will stream, along with other titles that Pandora thinks you might enjoy based on your interests. It’s a great way to discover new artists and expand your musical tastes. Currently, the iDA-X305S gives users control of their Pandora stations via the iPhone, but Alpine says to expect future models to support other phones, such as BlackBerry. Here’s how it works on the iDAX305S head unit: Stations previously created on a user’s Pandora account can be played and further personalized through the iDA-X305S using the iPhone and the PandoraLink for Alpine App, which is available now as a free download from the App Store. Pandora’s thumbs up/down rating system is optimized in the dash by using the double-action rotary encoder knob on the iDA-X305S. Pressing the exterior ring of the knob and turning it to the right activates the thumbs up command, indicating positive feedback for the song, which provides the feedback to Pandora to add similar songs to your station. Pressing the ring and turning it to the left activates the thumbs down command. Thumbs up/down icons are displayed on the iDA-X305S’s high-resolution 2.2-inch color TFT screen, which also shows artist, album, song title information and album art. Another convenient feature is the ability to bookmark songs for later purchase, through a simple press of the “Preset/Bookmark” button on the face of the iDA-X305S.
