IT’S HERE…! Our 2021 SEMA Issue and, boy, is it big! Well, big in terms of featuring some massive trucks. In case you haven’t noticed, this Issue is filled with some of the baddest trucks to recently hit the scene. Duallys are definitely menacing in their stock form given their wider stance and muscular lines, which is why they are so appealing. It’s a great canvas to create something larger than life and out of the world. We’ve filled these pages with some of the most impressive duallys around… First up is Joshua McClinton’s 2020 Ford F-350 that’s treading all-new territory as not only a show truck but a totally functional, daily driven

heavy-duty lifted dually. His rendering was so impressive that Fury tires loved what they saw and wanted to sponsor the entire build!

Then there’s the 2019 Ford F-350 Dually from Franklin Williams that you’d definitely want to double down on as a show winner thanks to its flashy mods and sky-high suspension. It’s the definition of what a SEMA truck should look like!

Although, not technically a dually, Cesar Olivas’ rare 1979 F-250 Crew Cab Short Bed made such a splash at Daytona that we couldn’t resist and just had to feature it! Behold its old-school charm mixed with modern appeal and try to tell us it’s not a rare gem… we dare ya!

Landon Willis knew he needed to create a bigger, beefier and more aggressive rig, which is why he chose his 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 dually as the base for his Purple Haze creation that’ll make you do a double take.

Then there’s some awesome eye candy thanks from this year’s Atlantic City Truck Meet and Lifted Truck Nationals. Both shows saw some amazing attendance and prove just how much people love the truck scene.

n medieval lore, Excalibur is the legendary sword of King Arthur, which is sometimes attributed with magical powers bestowed upon it by the storied wizard Merlin. The rare and elusive sword’s tale struck a chord with Cesar Olivas of Tweety’s Tire & Welding in Midland, TX when he needed to come up with a name for his Ford build. According to him, the ’79 Ford F-250 Crew Cab Short Bed is a “very rare truck,” which is what enticed him to find one and build it up with modern amenities for an old school to new school feel. Another driving factor was the

desire to be different from the hordes of other truck builders that have been dressing up newer truck models. “I pictured this old, rare truck done up with a modern suspension, wheels and tires,” he describes. Carlos admits that he had a difficult time finding it, but was determined to look far and wide until he got a lead. And when he did, he felt as triumphant as Arthur must have when he finally pulled Excalibur from the stone after countless others continuously failed. In fact, the lead was under his nose the entire time, coming from one of his shop’s customers.

With his prized Ford in his possession, it was finally time for the magic to happen and create the truck he had first envisioned in his mind so long before. Given he customizes every truck he owns, Carlos knew Excalibur needed only the best upgrades he could find in order to keep its nostalgic essence, but also update it for modern times. Scheduled to be unveiled at the 2021 Lonestar Throwdown, he and his crew made sure to hit the ground running to complete it all in time. First up was changing the heart of the truck as it was still the original motor. Carlos decided on a Cummins Diesel engine swap with upgraded turbo for more power, performance and reliability. Next was giving it more height, and given his shop specializes in custom fabrication, he pushed the limits to create the one-off 22” lift that included a 2018 F-250 axle swap. The result was a skyscraping OBS with a menacing stance when coupled with 30x16 American Force Sidewinder wheels that were paired with 42x16.50R30 Fury MT Tires. SSBC 8-Piston calipers were added on all four corners to bolster safety and stopping power.

The exterior of the F-250 was already clean and classy, so Carlos didn’t want to mess up a good thing and left it stock. He felt the old-school look provided a clean base for his Excalibur silver sword on four wheels. He did, however, give it a shiny new coat of armor in silver so that it could reflect the sun’s rays when displaced at LST. The interior was finished off in black leather with carbon fiber trim. While the challenge of finding it didn’t deter him from creating a badass OBS, a severe snowstorm in Texas during the build process did threaten the entire project. “We had a five-day storm in West Texas in February of 2020, right before the show,” he details. “The power was out at my shop for five days, which pushed me back on the completion schedule. I had to then work on the build for the last six days until the show and had to stay up until 3 a.m. to get it all done in time.” But like Arthur in the magical tale, he overcame his obstacles and debuted his OBS masterpiece to much acclaim at the show. “Everyone was impressed how it all turned out,” he mentions. And now that he’s got his dream rig under wraps that’s thoroughly enjoyed by his family, Carlos is working on something similar - a 1985 Chevy Crew Cab short bed, which he says is another rare rig. However, for Carlos, rare is where his customizing magic really pops! 33

here’s hardly an American cinematic hero more memorable than Rambo, right? He’s rough. He’s tough. And there’s really not much out there that can stop him. Well, if you were to build a truck that encapsulated everything about Mr. John James Rambo (bet you didn’t know his middle name), what would it look like? Surely, it would be big, beefy and have quite the ’tude, but in order to get a better picture in mind, we wanted to take a closer look at a certain renegade of a Ford pickup that was recently finished.

Jeremy McMill was just as curious as you were about visualizing a rig good enough for the big screen’s most memorable badass, but he actually went through with enlisting his ’19 F-350 (or his “F3Fiddy” as he refers to it) for action. Yep, he reached out to Chis Pate of the Level 7 Network to do what he does best -assembling all-star teams to build the craziest heavy-duty trucks on the streets. In no time at all, the guys had a clearcut objective in front of them and were willing to bulldoze through any barrier to get there. The first order of business was to address the F-350’s suspension system. To get the truck high up in the air, a Stryker 10” Identity Series lift kit was brought in to get the job done. Not only were these kits designed to provide a solid suspension lift, but the components themselves are also fabricated to look equally rugged. To capitalize on the truck’s newfound ride height, a set of 26”Amani Forged Rogrosso wheels and 40” Fury Country Hunter MT/2 tires were assigned to active duty. The Ford took on a beastly demeanor in no time at all.

The rig was coming along quickly, and riding the momentum from the suspension overhaul, the crew ran with a full traditional camo wrap for the truck. Hey, if you’re going for the full Rambo theme, you can’t skip out on the fatigues and the color palette of the remainder of his wardrobe. To further outfit the Ford’s tough-as-nails façade, Road Armor bumpers, RackTec roof rack, an Overkill Fab grille and a ton of LED lighting from Twisted Pro All-Terrain would ensure this truck could do its work, day or night. 38

Inside the cab, a fresh set of Katzkin leather covers were used to quickly and easily update the Ford’s interior. The all-black upholstery with diamond-stitch center panels balance nicely on the line between elegance and sporty sophistication. A starlight headliner has also been added to give the appearance of moving stealthily underneath the nighttime sky. Thanks to Jeremy and his band of brothers in the build, you can now get a clear idea of the kind of truck Rambo would be mowing his enemies down in. It’s not all too entirely clear whether or not Rambo would be a Chevy, Ford or Dodge guy, but for the sake of closing this story out right, we’ll just say he’d pledge his allegiance to the mighty blue oval. Bad guys, beware!

ot all show trucks are built the same. While some are designed mostly for looks, there are others that really are as able, willing and capable as they appear to be. This is a struggle that Joshua McClinton wanted to be on the right side of when he slated his ’20 Ford F350 to be fabricated. He really didn’t see a point in building a big truck if it couldn’t back its bark up, so he reached out to a reliable source that specializes in creating functional, heavy-duty lifted pickups. Projects of this stature don’t just complete themselves overnight - they require the attention of a seasoned point person. Understanding this valuable info, Joshua called on Chris Pate of the Level 7 Network to take the reins of the build and set it up for unwavering success. Since the F-350 was coming into the project bone stock for the most part, a lot of work would have to be done in order to change it from boring to badass.

Atlas Vehicle Dynamics is a trusted suspension resource for Chris, so the truck was sent there to install an Ultimate Air Ride adjustable 14”-16” lift system. UAR prides themselves on not only providing a monster-size lift, but one that works in unison with factory components for the best experience possible. With some strategic component powder coating taken care of on the new chassis system, the team moved on to the truck’s wheels and tires. For the metal selection, JTX Forged Dime wheels seemed to fit the style of the Ford perfectly, and as far as rugged chunks of off-road rubber, 40” Fury Country Hunter tires made for the perfect rolling companions. To give the wheels a sinister finishing touch, True Spike lug nuts were powder coated yellow and bolted right up. Fury Tires liked where Joshua’s F-350 was going and went all-in to sponsor the wrap that not only features their company logo, but also killer tread pattern design graphics on both sides of the truck as well as on the center of the Overkill grille. Front and rear Road Armor Identity Series bumpers have also made their way onto the Ford’s exterior in addition to a matching Identity Series chase rack, RackTec Phantom series roof rack, AMP Research XL retractable steps, Rock Tamer mud flaps, and an array of Twisted Pro all-terrain LED light bars and rock lights sourced from Gold Standard Lighting.

While a lot of lifted truck builders gloss over addressing the interior, Joshua was lucky enough to have Roadwire on board with the project to provide simple, yet effective seat covers, featuring supple black leather contrasted by subtle yellow panels and stitching. The dash and center console were also treated to just enough splashes of color to blend in with the rest of the truck’s appearance. Before Joshua knew it, his Ford F-350 was dripping with flavor and jacked up high into the sky—definitely a change from its former factory appearance when he last knew it. Although this truck is built for show, it will also get lots of road time to shake things up on the streets.

hese days, it takes a lot to build a truck that truly stands out from the crowd. With these rigs getting bigger, beefier and more aggressive, sometimes you just have to put the pedal to the metal when trying to outdo them all. Landon Willis attempted to do just that with his ’19 Dodge Ram 3500 dually. Hoping to get the truck noticed and remembered in the land of killer off-road pickups, he reached out to some heavy hitting names in the business to come together and brew up some magic. Landon knows that builds of this nature take quite a bit of attention, so his first call was to Chris Pate of The Level 7 Network to serve as the project manager for the Ram build. H&S Kreations was quickly lined up to concoct a rendering that would illustrate the truck’s true possibilities. Chris and Landon both liked what they saw in the rendering, and to put an edgy theme to the build, the guys landed on the name “Purple Haze” for the Dodge. It had a nice ring to it and ended up sticking. With a strong visual plan in position, the truck was soon put under the knife for its radical renovation. Atlas Vehicle Dynamics of San Antonio, Texas, was the Ram’s first destination where a Stryker 10” lift package was already waiting to be installed. After some test fitting, the lift components were taken back apart and sent to be custom powder coated candy purple and Porsche Silver. Protective Powder was hired to handle the job on the suspension parts, as well as lined up to coat even more accessories that would soon be lined up for the Purple Haze project.

To finish off the big lift package, a set of 26” Amani Forged Rogrosso wheels were lined up with the 40-” Fury Country Hunter MT rubber. Given that this Ram is a dually, the rear looks absolutely stacked with so much shiny metal and rugged rubber, there’s no question as to this Dodge’s newfound off-road capabilities. With the more aggressive suspension system well taken care of, the guys could now move on to the next phase of the build. The truck was still rocking its factory Pearl White paint at this point, and since there was so much buzz surrounding the “Purple Haze” name, it was time to make the next big step forward. Panda Printing in Florida was contacted about designing a wrap that would give the Ram a healthy dose of color and interesting graphics, and man, they sure did deliver. What they dreamt up mixes in lightninglike bolts with a purple color grade that has an undeniably cool far-out, intergalactic feel to it.

Landon’s Ram was truly becoming a sight to see during day, but to get it noticed even more once night falls, a total of 20 accessory LED lights has been peppered throughout the exterior from the front and rear Fusion bumpers and everywhere in between. There isn’t an inch of this truck that hasn’t been customized in one way or another, and that goes for inside the cab as well. With so much going for it, Purple Haze is one of the most extreme Dodge Rams on the road—you’ll be sure to know it as soon as you see it.

ranklin Williams first bought his ’19 Ford F-350 dually as a work truck. He wanted something that was capable of any size job, so he opted for a much larger truck than anticipated. However, it’s always better to have too much truck than not enough. The F-350 worked out perfectly, and Franklin was sure to give his workhorse some kind of custom twist when the time was right—he just wasn’t sure when or how.

Fast-forward several months to when Franklin randomly spotted a Facebook ad that read, “Who wants to go to SEMA?” That’s all he needed to hear before he bolted into action. “I sent the page that posted the ad a message saying that I would love to go”, Franklin says. “I felt that I needed to be there, but not as a spectator, since not just anyone is allowed into the show. I wasn’t interested in getting in with some kind of business pass either. The ad was looking for a killer truck to get into the show, and I was all about it.”

The ad in question was posted by 210 Auto Haus — a pre-owned truck dealership in New Braunfels, Texas, that specializes in work rigs as well as tricked-out custom jobs as well. Hollis McClard was Franklin’s first contact over at 210, and after sending in photos and info about his Ford F-350, Franklin was then directed to Cris Payne with Truck Guru to not only lock down a sacred SEMA spot with TIS wheels, but to set a plan into action, placing Cris as the project manager. To get the ball rolling in the right direction, the Ford was scheduled to receive a 13” hydraulicpowered lift package from Any Level Lift, complete with Firestone ‘bags to assist with tow capacity. Not only would the F-350 get a kickass new stance, but it would also maintain a solid ride quality, too. To help put an emphasis on the truck’s presence at the largest autoinsider show in the industry, the suspension components were then finished with white and Flaming Gold powder coat from Prismatic Powder to really pop. With TIS Wheels onboard with the project, a set of 544 forged wheels were chosen for the truck, but they were soon taken to a level far beyond cool. “We were able to get Hank Robinson at Hanro Studios to do a fully engraved Las Vegas theme on the wheels to celebrate the truck’s big debut in Sin City”, Franklin admits. “Hank and I came up with the ‘Double Down’ name for the dually, and there wasn’t any going back after that point.”

After SEMA’s 2020 hiatus, Franklin and team are finally ready to lay all the cards on the table and come up big on the industry’s reaction to all the planning and execution that was invested into this project. The F-350 has been blessed with a wide assortment of premium accessories that have come together to create a truly stunning Ford Dually. When asked what his predictions were for the big show, all Franklin had to say was, “Here we are one year later heading into SEMA season, and I couldn’t be more stoked to show off one of the baddest duallies around.”

2021 ATLANTIC CITY TRUCK MEET

here’s a lot of big truck shows out there, but the one to keep your eye out for is the Atlantic City Truck Meet, which hosted its first annual show the weekend of July 17th - 18th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The first annual show was supposed to be in 2020, but COVID-19 had other plans, so it was postponed until this year. The show is put on by Mark Wickline, Christopher Varner and John Klebaur. The three came up with the event after they realized that the Northeast was truly an untapped market in the truck show industry. “You see all the shows out west and down South, but there wasn’t a true truck show to the caliber we felt needed to be,” admits Mark. So after months of kicking it around, another truck show in the area canceled their event indefinitely and they felt like that was their opportunity to announce an event. On June 25th 2019 Atlantic City Truck Meet was announced officially. There was no venue, no dates, or anything set in stone. But the one thing they did have were sponsors thanks to John Ramos and Myles Kovacs at TIS Wheels. With one year to put on the show, the team hit the ground running. Each had their own role in making the show a reality, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen, so they had a whole extra year to perfect the details. “It was two years in the making, but it was well worth it,” Mark details.

For a first-year show, they crushed it with 2,000 vehicles in attendance and 14,000 spectators in total. Notable vendors and booths included: TIS Wheels, Renegade Products, Versa Tyre, Fury Tires, American Force Wheels, Forgiato Wheels, Skoop & Nikki of SMG, Black Red Headwear, BAMF LED Offroad Lighting, Liberty Forged, Diamond Mobile Detailing, Zephyr Polishes, Tobin’s Detailing and much much more. There was also a DJ, Sand Castle for Photos, and 15 food trucks as well as a beer garden. Mark boasts that people are extremely happy with the event. “We have gotten so much good feedback from sponsors, vendors, participants and spectators. Some people have suggested things to add or change and we are taking everything into serious consideration for next year.” They’re already planning next year’s show, which Mark says looks like it’ll be the weekend of July 30th & 31st in 2022! @ATLANTICCITYTRUCKMEET

2021 LIFTED TRUCK NATIONALS

ow in their sixth year, the Lifted Truck Nationals was held in Ridgedale, MO, on the weekend of September 10th through 12th, featuring more than 800 registered rigs and close to 10,000 showgoers. Held at the Branson Cedars Resort, the show proved why it’s one of the best truck shows in the country with its vast display of some of the most tricked-out rigs in the nation. According to Robbie Bryant of Keg Media (and one of the sponsors of the show), attendance all around grew by more than 40%, which only proves how much this segment of custom truck culture is growing. They had trucks registered from 36 states! American Force Wheels was the presenting sponsor and the American Force Parade of Trucks on Friday night at Branson Landing showed off 175 hand-selected trucks for some extra eye candy. Other big names involved in the show included: Road Armor as the host sponsor, Versatyre as the official tire, XK Glow as the official lighting, Renegade as the official detail product and McGaughys as the official suspension. Thanks to these sponsors, the show was able to present a huge giveaway throughout the weekend, which ws $40k worth of aftermarket mods for one lucky person.
