t’s Issue 98 and the cars are the stars this time around. We’ve jam-packed it with rides - some of the hottest customs we’ve come across during the last few months from exotics to old schools and of course a massively lifted truck thrown in for good measure. Liberty Walk, the Japanese tuner is now a household name in the States - so it was no surprise that when they brought out some serious heat for their 2015 SEMA Show showcase, it drew some thick crowds. We did this shoot after hours in our DUB Show Live exhibit at last year’s SEMA Show. Martino Auto Concepts is a heavy-hitter on the East Coast and are known in the industry for their unique high-end and exotic builds so it was only right that we provide an in-depth feature on the shop and how they’ve grown over the years.

It already had futuristic looks to it and they just amplified it times 10 with their widebody kit. I’m especially feelin’ that matte silver wrap that really enhances its out-of-this-world looks. The BMW i8 needs no improvements in our eyes, but Energy Motor Sport was able to pull off a sick body kit on their EVO i8. We’re also feeling that matte silver wrap, Simon, and agree that it definitely enhances its exterior. Pretty badass tow truck, lol. I would have never thought of turning one into a show queen as Christopher Dodson did with Stella the Wrecker. That rig is a monster and I’d be afraid to drive next to it in my Charger! BET hasn’t been the same without Big Tigger and he’s still doing his thing in the music industry, which is where he’ll always belong. Life just seems to get better for the hip-hop veejay and his garage reflects all of his success. 2017 BUGATTI CHIRON 1,500HP HYBRID The Bugatti Veyron redefined supercars for the 21st century, which makes its successor, the “Chiron,” one of the most anticipated cars of the decade. The exterior is very similar to the well-received “Vision Gran Turismo Concept” and resembles a hybrid of “The Vision” and Veyron. Just like the Veyron, power comes from an 8-liter W16 (now with larger turbochargers) that produces 1,500 hp and 1180 lb.-ft. of torque. For now it’s only available in a coupe, however an opentop version will be available in the near future. Advanced orders have already accounted for 1/3 of the total production of this $2.4-million supercar.
2017 CHEVY CAMARO ZL1 NEXT GEN With 640 hp and 640 lb.-ft. of torque, the new ZL1 is the most powerful production Camaro ever made. The 6.2-liter supercharged V8 outputs 60 more horsepower and 80 more lb.-ft. of torque than its predecessor, while weighing 200 lbs. less. The ZL1 has two transmission options available: a 6-speed manual, or an all-new 10-speed automatic with a 7.39 overall ratio with small steps between each gear to keep the engine at optimal rpm levels. In addition, the body features a number of aerodynamic changes from more than 100 hours of wind tunnel and track testing. Some of the new features include: a lower grille opening, a heat extracting hood, a large front air splitter, wider front fenders, new rockers and a rear wing.
BMW VISION NEXT 100 CONCEPT OF THE FUTURE BMW is constantly pushing the boundaries, aiming to make their customers’ driving experience even more intense. With their new concept car, Vision Next 100, the driver is in constant communication with the vehicle in an intuitive and natural way. At the same time, the vehicle expands the driver’s range of perception and transforms them into the “Ultimate Driver.” The Companion feature responds to the driver’s needs in order to create an emotionally-intense experience. Another unique feature is the Alive Geometry, which provides an adjustable exterior for optimal aerodynamics. In Boost Mode, the driver becomes one with the vehicle and will be able to experience even more intense driving pleasure in the future. On the other hand, in fully-automated Ease Mode, the vehicle takes over all driving tasks and the interior is transformed into an individual comfort zone.

hen Brian Anthony Garin of Infinite Auto Design in Bellflower, CA received a call from his cousin Alvin Legaspi, asking him to build something that would stand out, Garin couldn’t say no. Although his cousin was really into the Liberty Walk Ferrari 458, the exotic was way out of the budget and that’s when they came across the 2015 Corvette Stingray C7. They knew they’d be able to create a build they would be happy with since it featured low slung and sexy “body lines” which some say are similar to the Ferrari they were looking for. “The C7 was perfect for the build because it was current and he wanted something that would be a great weekend/fun ride, while still being suitable for everyday use,” Garin explains about the IADC7 build, which is short for “Infinite Auto Design C7.” DUB MAGAZINE 2016 | 43
Since his cousin still wanted a widebody, Garin called in some help from Extreme Dimensions Carbon Creations for a complete widebody kit for the C7, in addition to carbon fiber parts such as the hood, rear diffuser and spoiler. An APR Performance carbon wind splitter adds to its sleek looks and helps with aerodynamics. A custom set of three-piece forged wheels made for Infinite Auto Design were chosen and wrapped in Toyo 275/30R20 front and 325/25R20 rear tires. A K&N cold air intake and Ark Performance titanium exhaust were installed for some added power. The true focus of the IADC7 was the stereo system. Garin loaded the C7 with Image Dynamics audio products, a brand he’s familiar with having used them since the late ’90s. “It’s a great product and my first choice when it comes to audio installs,” he describes. It was a straightforward install, with the only trouble Garin coming across was trying to integrate everything to work with the factory system. The build time took about six weeks to put everything together, with many long nights. Now, the C7 is a daily driver that doubles as a weekend show car.

He even reluctantly showed off his Lexus SC 430, which he bought only after “a girl conned me into getting it,” he said laughingly. He fixed it up with a set of 20” Avus AF-501 wheels and Toyo Proxes T1R tires in a staggered fit, 245/35R20 front and 275/30R20 rear, but in the end he ended up selling it since it just wasn’t him. His prized ride though was his 1965 Chevy Impala Super Sport, which he calls his “baby.” A set of 13” Dayton wire wheels and Remington Maxxum II 155/80R13 tires, a three-pump, eight-switch setup made by Hi-Lo gets the Impala on three wheels when he wants to show off. It was his dream ride, “I always wanted one since I was a kid,” he says.

iberty Walk no longer needs an introduction. Its founder Kato-san creates unique body kits for the world’s most discerning rides and isn’t afraid to do things his way. The Japanese tuner has come a long way to create a brand that’s now internationally known. We caught up with the automotive visionary and perfectionist to find out what he thinks of his brand now and its worldwide appeal, his latest projects and what the future holds, as well as talk to a few members of the Liberty Walk family. Your worldwide audience is huge, did you ever think Liberty Walk would be as famous as it has become? WK: I didn’t think I would get famous like this. But I feel cars make a strong impact in the worldwide automotive community. I’m always on Instagram, which makes it easy to show what we have created to everyone. It’s amazing to see the great comments on the photos and videos. I think it is good for business and we get a lot of requests to do various cars. I love the challenge.

Tell us about your Huracán and Mini Cooper that were on display at last year’s SEMA Show. WK: The Huracán is a cool car that we wanted to make more cooler! I had an old Mini Cooper with Works style, and I thought I wanted to see a new version Mini Cooper with a new Works style. The military theme is the only one of its kind - kind of like my own limited collection! I started making it two years ago and the reason I made it was to create awareness world peace using cars! I have the words “Imagine all the people living life in peace” on my custom cars to show people around the world. What can we look forward from you in the future, what’s your next project for SEMA and what would you like to say to your fans? WK: Shhh…SEMA is a secret! I am actually not sure yet what we will display at SEMA. I can tell you that it will be a widebody, though. That is my style and passion. I still have 13 of my old Japanese custom cars and I still drive these cars to go to my work. I love them and if people want to see more of this style from Liberty Walk, I will keep going! My motto is keep on moving forward and have fun doing it. I want to thank all our fans for their support. It inspires me to keep going! Thank you everyone! How did you first learn about Liberty Walk? J.J.: My first exposure to Liberty Walk was seeing the cover of DUB Magazine, Issue 88, with the LB GT-R and LB Ferrari 458. That was such an impactful issue for me. What first drew you to the Liberty Walk style? J.J.: I love the look of widebody sports cars. The bolted-on overfender look was raw to me. It required superb fit and finishing work to pull the look off well, but also had a look to it that screamed racing due to its modularity and replaceability. These cars looked like they were from another level - from the mix of exotic materials to the stance and overall aggressiveness from front bumper to rear wing the style broke convention.
What’s your favorite aspect of the car? J.J.: The sound of the exhaust is my absolute 100% favorite thing about the 458. Armytrix really nailed it on this one. During the SEMA rollout in 2013, Kato revved the crap out of the 458, and I fell instantly captivated from just the videos alone. But once I installed the exhaust and heard it in real life…unreal. When that 458 is under load, or in a tunnel…I feel like I’m in heaven!

Why did you choose to go with the R8 and what’s your favorite part of the car? SD: We were asked to build the first LB kit for the R8 to debut at SEMA Show after Kato-san saw my GT-R at the 2015 Summer Bash. The LB kit obviously added a more aggressive nature to the car and is my favorite part about it. People who saw it were very impressed and couldn’t believe it!

lassic car builds aren’t for everyone. It’s a long process that requires a lot of patience and is very costly which can seriously run your pockets empty. But according to Andrew Williams of the Dallas Swift Council, once you’ve completed your first restoration, there’s no other feeling like it. With a deep passion for classic rides since he was 17, Williams is no stranger to the hard work and dedication needed to restore and build a car to show-worthy status. His first build was a 1968 Cadillac Coupe de Ville that needed a bit of work, but didn’t go over the top in customizations. Then in 2005, he bought the 1970 Ford Fairlane 500 and decided to go all out in restoring and customizing it, but in 2012 he wanted to transform it again into its current state. Nicknamed #OutKast for the fact that not a lot of people opt to build classic Ford Fairlanes, Williams’ custom is a mix of both a show queen and weekend ride. “The first time I built the Fairlane I built it around my son who was one at the time,” he says. “I had custom-painted tricycles, bikes, scooters and a car seat to match. I was spending quality time with my son. When
I decided to rebuild the Fairlane I was having issues getting the car finished, and in 2014 my younger brother was killed in a motorcycle accident, so I’ve dedicated the car to him (RIP Billy). He was always around since day one with this car and this is the best way I could honor him. Once he passed my Mom really pushed me to finish the car for him. She new he was watching from above.” For its first transformation, Williams went with a Kandy Brandywine exterior and dressed
15 grilles throughout the Ford and added a set of their 22x8.5 front and 24x10.5 rear TF-777 wheels which were paired with Nexen 245/30R22 front and 275/25R24 rear tires. Having a proper sound system was a priority, so a Pioneer DEH-80PRS head unit, two DB Drive Platinum 12” subwoofers, eight 6.5” DB Drive component speakers, a Quantum Audio 3500.1 amplifier for the subwoofers and a 2400x4 amplifier for mids were added for adequate sound, which is all powered by a Kinetik battery.

Since he found it hard to find many of the parts, Williams had to have a lot of them custom-made. “Everything with this car is a challenge. I can find the basic mechanical parts but it’s hard to find any trim, molding and accessories. That’s why I chose the custom route.” For his grilles, he partnered with Tiarra Luxury Grilles and worked together to make all
The entire transformation took two-and-ahalf years to complete and the response to the finished product has been crazy, according to Williams. “There have been people from all over that say they like the outcome of the car. When I’m at shows I talk for hours to people about the car. I’m just glad everyone can enjoy the hard work that’s gone into #OutKast. I love how it turned out and I still plan on doing some minor upgrades in the future as parts become available.”

F
or Luis Correa, Chevy Camaros are in his blood. These American muscle machines from yesteryears are special to Correa and his 1969 Camaro demonstrates his true passion for restoring them. As the first car he got when he turned 15 back in 1995, Correa already knew back then its future potential. “I drove it all through high school and I started to rebuild it when I went to college,” he says of his first Camaro. “I wanted a show quality car with a lot of horsepower and the look of a Pro Touring/Pro Street combination. It was built to be driven, running on 92 octane,

so it could be driven daily.” Aside from his 1969 Camaro, he’s also owned a 1968 Pro Touring Camaro that he loved just as much. When he first bought the Camaro, it was in a pretty rough condition, but Correa worked endless odd jobs to at least redo the interior and clean up its then engine. “I used to wake up every morning before school to wax and polish its exterior,” he describes to show how much he loved his first ride. “I would never drive it dirty!” But now that he had the money to really go all out to create the Camaro of his dreams, he spared no expense, estimating that he has

dropped about $100K into the Camaro. “This build was all about creating an awesome street car that outperforms and looks great compared to anything else. I was lucky enough to keep my first ride and redo it the way I always wanted to.” To make sure that everything was exactly what he wanted, he sought out the best products available that would not only fit the vintage ride, but also enhance its performance and classic look. Because he wanted a dependable ride for the streets, he switched out its twin turbo engine and went with a 632 cubic-inch fuel injection engine that pushes out 875 ponies, which he says was “the best decision” for the overall build. Other highlights include its 4180e overdrive transmission, and all its custom parts, including a roll cage and interior. A set of 20x6 front and 24x15 rear wheels wrapped in 215/30R20 405/25R24 rubber gives it a modern look compared to traditional smaller wheels. “Everyone loves the Camaro, except for a few old school guys who say that the wheels are too big,” he mentions. “The build took 10 years to complete from start to finish, recently redoing everything that I had originally done in college.” Correa has waited a decade to see his baby looking on point and couldn’t be happier with the finished product. Now his cherished Camaro will double as a show car representing Menace car club in Texas, and a weekend driver, something Correa looks forward to doing all week!

With a vast array of projects at any given time, the NYC shop’s owner Joe LaPadula talks shop with us about the artistry of their craft, origins and more: How did you first get interested in cars and customizing? I was born into the car game. My dad and his family migrated from Italy and were in the automotive business for more than 35 years in Queens, NY. My dad and uncles built and raced on the track, as well as illegal street racing at the
How did the idea for the shop come about? It was more a way of life than an idea. My dad always told me to learn a trade if I wasn’t going to pursue college. What steps did you take to make your dream a reality? Most kids were at the beach for summers during middle school and high school, while I was working with my dad. When I was 18, my dad landed me a full-time job at one of his friends body shops, where I eventually became manager. I then moved on to another body shop and moonlighted at my own 1,000-square foot garage. Shortly after, July of 1991 I acquired Martino Auto Body, which is about one-mile from my current location -Martino Auto Concepts located in Glen Cove, NY.
How long did it take for you to set up shop? What challenges were there? It was challenging to find the right location and an existing shop owner that was willing to sell. Being in an affluent area, body shop permits are very difficult to obtain. How long have you guys been doing business? July 15, 1991 and this July we’ll be celebrating 25 years in business. In 1993 my high school buddy, Jon Holzer, became my business partner and has been in the trenches with me to this day. We both have sons that have a great interest in the business. Who knows, they might carry on the tradition. MAC & SONS! How have you grown as a business over the years? How has your shop’s work/skills/services grown since you first started? It doesn’t matter what business you are in it is a constant changing world and if you want to be the best, you need to get proper training, have cutting edge equipment and a dedicated staff. Not to mention a very supportive family. Owning your own business, you never really have time off!

2014 Dodge Challenger features a complete Superbird nose assembly with hideaway lamps, SMS induction hood with butterfly assembly and SMS rear bumper and diffuser, steel mild widebody quarter panels fabricated in-house by MAC and finished off with the iconic Superbird three piece wing. It squats low on the 20” SSR SP1 wheels via KW V2 coilovers. A Kenne Bell supercharger was installed and a Brembo Big Brake kit was also added.
What’s your shop’s speciality? We specialize in high-line and exotic automobile collision repair. We are a certified collision center for Mercedes-Benz and Audi, as well as a authorized factory trained BMW facility since 1994. We are also known for pushing the envelope on custom one-off builds. What have you guys been working on lately? We have been involved in numerous steel widebody conversions as well as the world famous Chop Top Escalade that has been featured in your magazine, SEMA and toured the country with Sony. We also have been involved in the Automotive Art Movement for the past decade, ranging from the Lamborghini Art Car to the latest Ferrari Art Car completely spray bombed the legendary Bronx native John “Crash” Matos. Customers are always asking us to separate them from the crowd!
The 750 hp/509 lb-ft motor can get the $400,000 2016 Lamborghini Aventador SV from 0-60 mph at an asphalt-tearing 2.8 seconds.

What’s been your craziest request from a customer or most wild build and what was done to it? Our wildest build has been the ChopTop Cadillac Escalade. To this day, I have not seen another. What are you most proud of about your shop? I am most proud of the dedication and attention to detail that my entire staff shows year after year. Two things you will always hear me say: quality, not quantity and we are dedicated to the artistry of our craft.
A rare manual transmission 2005 Ferrari F430 Art Car with a complete respray by legendary Bronx graffiti artist John Crash Matos using Montana Colors spray cans with additional 8 coats of PPG High Solids automotive clearcoat. The hood and engine lid were base coated by Joe LaPadula with PPG Vibrance Collection silver metal flake. Finishing the look with a set of 20� HRE P107 that are each finished in a different color candy that matched the corner of the vehicle.
How many builds do you have in the shop at any given time? Our facility spans three floors, multiple buildings and approximately 30,000-square-feet of space. We usually have a minimum of 50 vehicles at all times at our facility.

With it’s midship 650 hp and 516 lb-ft engine, the 2016 McLaren 675LT’s blistering 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds is not as fast as the Aventador, but it’s also $50,000 lighter on the wallet.
What does the future of the shop hold and where do you see the customizing trend going? The future is bright, always pursuing manufacturers training and in search of the next big build! I don’t like to make predictions, instead I like to create a trend. You’ll just have to keep a close eye on us to see what my team and I bring to the game next. What personal rides do you have and what kind of builds are they? I personally own a 2003 Lamborghini Murcielago, aka #LamborghiniArtcar, and a 2005 Ferrari F430, aka #FerrariArtCar (IG @FerrariArtCar), both in manual transmission.

W
hen you own a construction company, you know you need a rig that can handle the rigors of carrying heavy tools and materials from jobsite to jobsite. Owner of East Coast Concrete in Florida, Willy Suarez needed a truck that was just as tough as his job, which is why he went with a 2012 Ford F-250 Lariat. “I’m a huge Ford guy and I’ve owned a total of 24 Fords so far,” he admits. He’s also a huge fan of customizing every truck he’s ever owned, but with this Lariat he had a different idea and decided he would modify it for show instead of work. “I just wanted to do something

that hasn’t been done. Something that would just have a big wow factor to it,” he details. Nicknamed “Project Supremacy” for its original intentions to reign supreme above all other customs, Suarez hooked up with PMF Suspension to make sure the lift was beyond perfect. “The design was mostly in the lift kit,” he says. “We spent many hours designing it to make sure it would be different.” After the lift was perfectly designed and ready to go, Suarez turned his attention to the build’s wheels and partnered with Specialty Forged Wheels to create a one-off design to complement his project.

With only three months to complete, Suarez was on a time crunch so he made sure to stick with products that were proven and that would fit his vision, including upgrading the factory 6.7L turbo diesel motor to make it even more powerful. So far, Suarez has received incredible feedback on his Project Supremacy when it’s displayed at shows. “It draws crowds every show it shows up to,” he says. “It’s overwhelming the amount of people that approach me about the truck. As with anything different a few will always hate. But hate comes with the territory.”
After it made its debut at last year’s SEMA Show, Suarez took it out to the desert to do some off-road testing and it drove amazing, he mentions. “I wouldn’t change a thing about my build and I’m very satisfied with it, and very proud of it considering I put plenty of my blood, sweat and tears into the build myself.” It’s currently being used as a promotional vehicle for Specialty Forged Wheels and will be sold later this year so that he can replace it with the new 2017 Ford F-250 that he plans on taking to this year’s SEMA Show. 128 | DUB MAGAZINE 2016

he 2016 NOS Energy DUB Show Tour fueled by Nitto had its first-ever Canadian stop on March 23rd through the 27th at the Vancouver Auto Show. Held at the Vancouver Convention Center, DUB’s exhibit showcased a world-class selection of highly customized cars, trucks and bikes, plus the million dollar Jin Performance Mercedes-Benz SLR that was brought in from the States! As the first international tour stop since the inception of the DUB Tour, Canadian car enthusiasts in and around the city were hyped that we were finally bringing in the big tent and giving some shine to the burgeoning custom automotive scene in Vancouver. To make a great first impression, we made sure we showcased a collection of high-end and luxury rides from the local scene including several from SR Auto Group and MM-Design. Another ride on display was Filthy’s infamous Liberty Walk Ferrari 458 that also happens to be on this issues cover. The NOS Energy display was also a crowd favorite as guests got to sample a few delicious beverage flavors while scoping out a few of the featured rides in the booth. he New York Auto Show is always a favorite in the automotive industry and each year we’ve been lucky to bring the DUB Show Tour to all the action! For the 2016 NOS Energy DUB Show Tour fueled by Nitto, we touched down in the Big Apple on April 1st through the 3rd at the Jacob Javits Center. Well known local shop, Martino Auto Concepts, brought some heat with their fleet of extoics and custom rides, while Will Castro and Team Unique, from “Unique Rides” via Velocity TV, debuted Carmelo Anthony’s custom red hot Jeep Wrangler and took pictures and signed autographs with fans. BM Auto Collision, ACI Dynamics and NYC Motoring also brought out some of their finest rides, while the show also saw the debut of the Liberty Walk Infiniti G37 A80 sedan.
