THE BIG BOSS Man, I can’t believe Rick Ross has a 40-car garage! That’s insane. Seriously, who can drive that many cars? But when you’re a hip-hop boss, you can afford a car to drive for each day of the month. I’d be happy with even one Double-R in my garage. The Wraith looks perfect after Rich B. Caliente fitted it with the Forgiatos. But it’s his Caprice that really catches my eye; that’s definitely a showworthy classic! Via email Jacob J.

I didn’t know who Tony Royster, Jr. was before reading about him in Issue 89. After Googling him and checking out his YouTube videos, that guy is one badass drummer! I have yet to check out Jay-Z live in concert, but now I want to get tickets to an upcoming show just to hear Royster’s live drumming (and Jay-Z, of course). I’m also feeling his muscle car; it’s sleek and gunmetal grey, just how I like my own rides.

Yeah, Rick Ross has a pretty envious stable of rides. Even we’re jealous of the Boss Man’s fleet. Rich B. Caliente is one lucky dude to be able to work on his rides, and he has the talent to back it up. We still can’t decide which ride we prefer from his collection, but his Caprice is pretty sweet… However, we wouldn’t mind a Wraith parked at our offices either.

We don’t know about you, Pedro, but we don’t know too many three-year-olds with the skills Royster had when he was younger. He’s so good that he has hip-hop’s best knocking at his door for his drumming talent. Jay-Z is a smart man to have Royster around to amp up his fans at concerts. Too bad Royster doesn’t have more time to ride around in his Challenger, but when Jay-Z wants you on his tour, how can you say no?

CAR ART It takes balls to mess with expensive and exotic rides , but Jona Cerwinske has giantsized ones to do what he does to them. Taking a Sharpie to the Porsche and Lambo was insane! It’s not something I’d ever let an artist do, but I have to admit that his art is pretty cool. I’d just prefer it to hang on my wall rather than on my car. Just sayin’. Via Email Samir Y. I remember when you guys first featured TK back in Issue 61. He has definitely come a long way since his competition days. It’s good to see that he’s still around, pushing the skate community forward by supporting upand-comers, as well as providing the kids with dope gear from Fly Society. 2015 MUSTANG – FIRST 500 SELL OUT IN SECONDS IN EUROPE Europeans sure love some American muscle…cars that is! Ford recently opened up orders for the 2015 Mustang in Europe, and the first 500 units were snapped up in 30 seconds. The cars were allocated across 20 countries and Ford will contact the buyers to let them know that their reservation has been

successful. Each buyer then gets to complete their order at a dealership but will have to wait until 2015 to drive away with their own Mustang. Buyers were able to choose either between Race Red for the coupe or Magnetic Silver for the convertible. They also got to choose between the the EcoBoost model or Mustang GT.

AUDI Q3 FEATURES A CAMPING TENT Audi is looking to attract consumers who love the outdoors with their customized Q3 that features an attached tent. Introduced at the Wörthersee 2014, the Q3 is supposed to be the ultimate activity vehicle, equipped with Audi Original Accessories like alloy wheels and a roof rack that can even hold a kayak. But the main standout feature is the tent that can be rolled out, inflated and ready within roughly seven minutes. Powering the special Q3 is a 2.0-liter TDI four-cylinder engine that develops 177 HP, pushing it to 0-62 mph in 8.2 seconds.

MANSORY MERCEDES-BENZ AMG G63 6X6 For all the oil sheiks and “Dan Bilzerians,” Mansory has finally got their hands on the MercedesBenz AMG G63 6x6. Outside, the German luxury car tuner adds new headlights and a plethora of carbon fiber components. Inside, premium Alcantara leather and fine wood inserts can be found throughout. Under the hood is where Mansory really went to town, upgrading the V8 5.5-liter twin-turbo engine with genuine racing components, including different connecting rods, pistons, bearings, cylinder head and new crankshaft and exhaust

system. Output is bumped to 840 hp and an electronically capped 737 lb.-ft. of torque. Oooh yeah.

ROLLS ROYCE SUV COMING 2017 Well off families can now transport their kids to soccer practice, play dates and more in pure luxury come 2017, because that’s when the RollsRoyce SUV will hit dealerships. Yup, the rumors are true...RollsRoyce will be producing their very own SUV. Design Chief Giles Taylor admits that the design work is still ongoing for the upcoming SUV, 18 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

with additional sources speculating that pricing will start at about $335,000. There is still speculation surrounding the SUV’s platform, with rumors going around that BMW is creating a composite steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, and plastic chassis for future models of the Ghost and a possible 9 Series, so that might be true to the SUV, too.

he premise for The History Channel’s new TV show, “Biker Battleground Phoenix,” takes five of the best bike customizers in Arizona - what they consider to be the “custom bike building capital of the world” - and Brian Jenkins of Hatred Customs is working hard to showcase why he should be crowned king. Already a known name among bagger enthusiasts, he’s pitted against four others in the behind-thescenes reality show that sheds new light on the bike customizing world. Based in Phoenix, Jenkins has been customizing his own rides for more than 30 years, but it wasn’t until 2007 that he made it his professional career after his excavating business went under when the economy crashed. Since then, he’s been building awardwinning bikes that repeatedly take home top honors at shows across the nation. His 2013 Harley-Davidson Road Glide recently took home Baddest Bagger Arizona – an esteemed bagger competition – in addition to winning first place in practically all the other shows it’s been entered in. “I just really committed myself to building the bike I wanted to and everything just took off from there,” Jenkins says. “And ever since, customizing has been something I’ve been able to fall back on.” Able to work his magic on everything from bikes to cars and more, Jenkins is currently focused on the bagger market since everyone is trying to get their hands on one-off bikes. Jenkins’ Road Glide is one of his best examples of his fabricating talents, with every piece on the bike twisted, tweaked or torched. What was once a Road Glide is now a bespoke machine on two wheels. Jenkins whipped up a custom fairing that’s based on a Suzuki GSX-R750 headlight, while also using a one-off inner fairing that holds Dakota Digital gauges and a head unit.

But the focal point of the bike is the stretched bags that give it an elongated look. Jenkins used Trask Performance lids and his own custom rear fender to get that look. Quite possibly the most interesting modification is the pair of Cadillac taillights that were masterfully used on the bags – a customization only a true car enthusiast would appreciate. The elegant white seat by Guy’s Upholstery perfectly complements the green “Ice Frost” paint by Lucky Luciano’s, providing the bike with a classic look. Another major highlight of the bike is the massive 30” front Metalsport Roxxy wheel, which causes everyone to stop and stare. To add major power to the bike, the stock 103” twin cam was given a boost by Trask Performance, who added their own pistons, air cleaner and exhaust, as well as Screamin’ Eagle cams and heads. They then topped it off with their own turbo setup that boosts power to 158 ponies. “It’s like riding a crotch rocket, but it’s a HarleyDavidson,” Jenkins describes. “The fastest I’ve done is 152 mph down the 101 here [in Phoenix]. The crotch rockets always want to race it.” And the sound system on the bike can rival that of most cars with (6) Rockford Fosgate 6.5” component speakers and a pair of Rockford 6x9’s coupled to both a 650W and 250W amp. components, providing quite a challenge for Jenkins. “I like it loud and wanted lots of power, which is why I mostly used Rockford Fosgate products. It was kind of hard to cram all those speakers in since you only have so much room to work with.” But being the master fabricator he is, Jenkins was able to make it work and look good at the same time. Although many might consider the Road Glide to be Jenkins’ best work yet, Jenkins thinks otherwise. He actually favors the Maroon 2008 Harley-Davidson Street Glide - which was transformed into a Road Glide - that was fixed up for a customer. “I like how fast my bike is, but there’s something about that red bike that looks so good when you’re next to it on the road.” Jenkins added a 26” front wheel, customized bags, rear fender, powder coated the fairing and completely redid the body. “Everything has been customized on that bike, too,” he says. “I worked with the owner on all the details since it’s not just a show bike; it’s an everyday ride.” Like his own Road Glide, the Street Glide has also won every show it’s been in, providing Jenkins with even more bragging rights; probably just one of the many reasons why The History Channel sought Jenkins out to be on their new show. “After they kept asking me and asking me, I finally caved in. I’ve been filming for the past couple of months, but the end result will be good.” 40 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

Lamborghini Aventador was never on Marshawn Lynch’s radar. In fact, he actually told himself that he’d never drop money on an exotic car like the Aventador, opting for vehicles that are a bit more practical. But all that changed when the Seattle Seahawks running back visited Monster’s Founder and CEO Noel Lee’s garage while on a visit to Monster’s headquarters in the Bay Area last year. “I must have seen about a million and one Lamborghinis, thousands of Ferraris,” the Oakland, CA native exaggerates. “I told myself that I’ll never get one, but after being in there and hearing them start up, I changed my mind. Something about the engines sparked my interest.” With the sound of pure power ringing in his ears weeks after that visit, Lynch went out to a dealership in Seattle, WA to “check out” a few Lamborghini options, just in case he decided that an exotic was in his near future. After locking eyes on a yellow 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Aventador, his mind was set…he was going home in his own Raging Bull. That was, of course, until the dealership broke his heart by telling him that there were only 50 of those special editions Bulls made and that particular one was already spoken for. Lynch’s heart was quickly mended when he was offered another Aventador dressed in black. But his mind still wasn’t convinced on such a lavish purchase, and for a couple of months, he made the trek to the dealership numerous times to scope out the Aventador to make sure he truly wanted to commit to its purchase. 46 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

Lynch’s Lamborghini Aventador wasn’t a planned purchased, but now that he has one, there are no regrets!

“I kept asking myself if I really wanted it, and then after a few months, I put together a plan to get it. Now it’s getting slapped by Monster,” he laughs while at the photo shoot, which doubled as the vehicle’s grand debut after Monster got their hands on it. Before the photo shoot, the Super Bowl champion’s favorite thing about his Aventador was the sound of its growling exhaust that purred when revved, but after he heard the banging sound system built by Monster, his favorite quickly changed. As an avid fan of music, Lynch’s partnership with Monster began when a mutual friend introduced the two. A

fan of Monster’s impeccable sound quality in their headphones coupled with Monster’s admiration of Lynch’s “Beast Mode” abilities on the football field made for a fruitful collaboration on “Beast Mode” headphones that Lynch was able to give out to his Seahawk teammates. After learning about the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster laced with a high-performance audio system by Monster that debuted at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (Lamborghini personally chose Monster to hook up the super car with an audiophile-quality system), Lynch knew he wanted the same treatment for his own Aventador. “I asked them for a lot of bass because music fuels your mood or how you’re feeling,” he says. “If you’re in a good mood, you listen to your favorite songs that keep you upbeat; if you’re sad, you’ll find something that fits, too. I always identify with my music. It’s probably the first thing I put in my car before I get rims or other 48 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

accessories. I need to have my music right.” When Noel first talked about what Lynch should expect after the bodacious sound system was put in, Lynch admits that he fully didn’t comprehend just what was being described. “When we were talking about customizing the sound, he talked about customizing it exactly to my ears. He said I’d have everything I love about my bass and that it would be like having a live orchestra in front of me, where I would hear each instrument.” The first time Lynch experienced the sound system at the photo shoot, his eyes lit up and a smile crossed his face. “When I got in the car, I was able to understand and knew what Noel was talking about.” Monster’s philosophy when approaching car audio (as well as their headphones) has always been about providing drivers with a musical experience that makes them feel as if they’re at their favorite artist’s concert or in the studio with

musicians. “We’ve been doing car audio for more than 20 years,” Noel Lee describes. “[Monster is about] hearing things you’ve never heard before from a set of speakers like Monster Pure Sound in headphones – power, dynamics, articulation – the kinds of things you hear in real music, but not in normal car speakers or headphones.” When Lynch requested that Monster put together his Aventador, Lee immediately knew he wanted to mimic what was done when building the Veneno project. “When the Lamborghini was unveiled, it took the world by storm,” Lee says. “Even the Audi and VW guys couldn’t wait to hear it. Marshawn has done extraordinary things with his teammates, winning the Super Bowl, and to honor his audio request, I knew I wanted to provide him with the ultimate system.” Monster’s team replaced the front audio stage – which consisted of a 6.5” component set – with an 8” set, while adding a custom center

channel speaker with the same look and grill work as the Veneno center channel. A 10” shallow mount sub was added in the passenger footwell, along with amplifiers and a sound processor. The two roof panels were painted gloss black to match the rest of the gloss black roof, which also boasts a pearl logo pattern from the pillar to the rear of the passenger compartment (the “ghosted” logo is present with or without the roof panels on). Illuminated side sills light up to reveal Lynch’s signature “Beast Mode” moniker when the doors open, while custom-made “Powered by Monster” logos were added on all speaker grilles. The massive calipers of the Aventador were also custom painted by the team at Findlay Customs and wears the “Beast Mode” logo. “When it comes to the bass that Marshawn really likes, it’s about creating the frequency.

Anybody can do low bass, but quality low bass is where you actually have timbre in the bass and can hear texture, definition and punch in notes. When you have the combination of great audio and a great car like a Lamborghini [Aventador], there’s no other combination like it. Unfortunately, even car guys don’t get to hear this combo while driving their exotics. You would have to literally drive Marshawn’s Lamborghini to experience it.” Although not exactly his dream ride (that would be an ’89 Ford Mustang 5.0), Marshawn plans on making his “Beast Mode” Aventador his daily driver during the season up in Seattle. So if you’re in the area and pull up to an Aventador bursting at the seams with bass, don’t interrupt because that’s Marshawn getting his “Beast Mode” on before game time.

Good things come to those who wait…

veryone has heard this phrase extolling the virtue of patience. And anyone who’s ever customized their ride probably lives by it, especially if it’s a restoration project. These types of builds can take months, even years, to complete since owners want to make sure their rides are perfection on four wheels. No one probably understands the power of this phrase better than professional hockey player Joe Corvo, who has waited a decade for his 1965 Lincoln Continental to be finished. But the build was never intentional for Corvo, who grew up around auto shops. “My dad owned auto body shops and I spent a lot of time there,” he confesses. “Guess I caught the [customizing] bug from that.” After finding the Continental on eBay in 2004 out of boredom during hockey’s last lockout, the Chicago Wolves’ defensemen initially just wanted to get the engine rebuilt. “All of a sudden I had some extra money in my pocket and since I was already getting it freshened up, I decided I better just go all the way,” he explains about the unexpected decision to go all out. “It just kind of got out of hand and escalated in a full rebuild from there.” The impulse purchase has since then been transformed into Corvo’s “Raven”- named for its murdered-out exterior and a reference to his last name in Italian – by Eastern Rod and Customs in Raleigh, North Carolina, who has been working with Corvo since he was with the Carolina Hurricanes. “I really wanted something all blacked-out, and the Lincoln is dark and sinister, which is exactly how I wanted it.”

“Joe had a vision for the car and he asked ERC if we could bring his vision to reality,” says the shop’s master fabricator and manager, Jim Yocum. “Given the custom and specialized capabilities of the ERC crew, we knew we could do it.” Others mods that Corvo made sure his Lincoln featured included a fabricated suspension, wheels and a plush interior. “The air ride suspension is my favorite, as well as the wheels,” he says. I wanted something big; as big as I could go without ruining the ride of the car.” To honor Corvo’s request, ERC custom-built the front and rear suspension using a Ridetech air ride system then added a set of 20” American Racing Hot Rod Blvd wheels wrapped in Nitto Invo 255/30R20 performance tires.

For the interior, the original rear bench seating configuration was swapped for custom bucket seats, a modification that Corvo is more than happy with. Basically, the entire inside was redone (with the exception of the original dash), which now boasts custom additions like modern electronic front bucket seats; console made from carbon fiber with stainless trim; chrome tilt column from Ididit; and a steering wheel from Billet Specialties. Adding so many custom features wasn’t always easy for the crew at ERC. Yocum admits that the build was difficult because of its complexity. “As with many custom applications, there was a lot of research and testing that had 58 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

to be done to make sure things worked as they should,” he says. “Clearly, the engine with its immense power, the customized engine bay components, the interior with is carbon fiber designed center console and leather seating, the stereo system, and of course the awesome air ride set up. The hood is also a fabricated, specially designed feature with operable ram-air intakes. All in all, this Continental is a one-of-akind creation and always draws attention.” And that’s exactly what Corvo wanted, a custom ride unlike any on the road. After waiting 10 years to drive his “Raven” (he’s only driven it to the shop in all those years), Corvo plans on taking a road trip down to North Carolina to sell a previous house before returning to Chicago, IL where he’ll make it his summer ride. As his time as a professional hockey player winds down, Corvo is also exploring other career options, including the possibility of car customization. “I’d like to make my next project car something simple so that I can figure out my way around a car.” But until then, Corvo looks forward to relishing in his decade-long build and fully enjoying this Continental he waited so patiently for.

nown for his brash persona, slick fighting style and flamboyant outfits in the ring, twotime world champion Paulie Malignaggi has carved out his niche in the contemporary boxing landscape. Malignaggi has fought against Hall of Fame opponents like Miguel Cotto, won world titles at light welterweight and welterweight and is now one of the most respected up-and-coming boxing analysts in the game. But Malignaggi is not a mere example of style over substance. The Brooklyn native, now 33, has grown up both in and out of the ring. These days, he has taken a more mature approach to the fight game. Malignaggi also likes to take a look back on his humble beginnings as an Italian-American immigrant and never forget how fortunate he has been to find a sport that has helped shaped him into the man he is today. We caught up with Malignaggi on one of his visits to the West Coast to talk about boxing, cars, and his car customization shop, Magic Man Customs.

What do you love so much about the sport? Nothing matches the feeling of winning a fight. It only lasts a few moments. When you hear the crowd love you and that adrenalin rush of hearing the announcer calling your name and you holding up that world championship belt. How’d you get the nickname Magic Man? I remember my fourth professional fight; my old promoter kind of gave me that nickname right on the spot. And it just kind of stuck. What fighters were your biggest inspirations in and out of the ring? Arturo Gatti was a big family favorite. He had a similar story to me. Both our families emigrated from Italy. We both had to struggle our way to a better life. Arturo was someone I definitely looked up to. When I turned pro, I ended up meeting him. How did you discover boxing? When I started to get into a little trouble, my grandfather and my uncle took me to a [boxing] gym to try to keep me out of trouble and give me some direction. I was 16 and never really had anything I cared about before. My grandfather was the biggest male role model I ever had as a kid. What was your personality like growing up? I got into my share of scraps. When you’re in school and you’re not the biggest kid, you’re going to get into some fights. I would stand up for myself when I needed to.

You are known for your slick, elusive fighting style, big personality, and crazy outfits. How did you develop that entire ring persona? It’s funny because even though Arturo was my role model, he didn’t fight like that. I remember the shakeand-bake fighters like [Hector] Camacho, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones, Jr. My man Camacho had wild outfits and a wild attitude. I thought to myself, I always had this in-your-face kind of personality anyway. And I’m fast. I can make that translate into the ring. And if you have a little bit of attitude behind it to get the crowd involved. I love that, too. DUB MAGAZINE 2014 | 69

What’s your mindset when fighting? I think it’s kind of changed. Early on, there was a lot of emotion. I was angry. Later on in my career, it’s all about being responsible. About being a man, going in there and doing your job. A man does his job and does it well. Greatest moments in the ring? When I won the U.S. National Championship as an amateur, I had only been boxing for three years. And then winning my first World Championship in 2007 was a big accomplishment. Who were your toughest opponents? My toughest opponent was Miguel Cotto. He was the most complete fighter I’ve faced by far. He wasn’t just a banger. What is something people may be surprised to find out about you? As much as people may think I’m that kind of (brash) personality, I do that a lot for boxing. When I’m on my own time, I don’t always act like that. I’d be a real pain in the ass if I acted like that all the time. How do you feel about your broadcasting career on Showtime? How did you get into that? It’s pretty amazing. I feel kind of lucky. [Showtime] wanted to try out different fighters, and I kind of aced it. I’ve always loved to talk boxing and analyze fights, even with my friends. I’m a big fan. If there’s a big fight, I want to be there. 70 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

Compare nerves when broadcasting vs. nerves when getting in the ring to fight. I don’t want to sound super-arrogant, but it isn’t that tough. I have a great crew around me. I just talk like I’m talking boxing with my friends. I don’t really get so nervous. You seem to have a great love of boxing, whether it’s your fight or not. What do you love so much about it? Sometimes it’s a love/hate relationship. Sometimes I get frustrated with it. But I’m addicted to boxing. If there’s a big fight coming up, I want to be there. Some fights, I can’t just wait to call [as a commentator] or just to watch.

A lot of fight fans from both sides like to pit boxing vs. MMA. What are your thoughts about all that? I respect both sports. Whether it’s MMA or boxing, they’re both combat for a living. You’re literally bleeding for your money. Putting all of yourself on the line. It takes so much character to put yourself through that. I’ve got to respect that and I give a lot of credit to all those guys. Tell us about your favorite cars you own. The best part about owning all these cars is that I worked hard to get what I got. Now that I have some nice rides, it feels really good to know what I did to get here. Just being in my car, I’ll look at the steering wheel at the Ferrari symbol, and I’ll just think, “This is mine! I got it with my fists.” It’s

cool to know how far I’ve come. My family came to this country and we were on food stamps. Now I have a house, nice cars and nice things. A lot of celebrities had to drive some pretty bad rides before they got famous. What’s the worst car you have ever owned? That’s the thing. I couldn’t even afford the hooptie. I had to ride the bus. I used to take a train to the gym everyday. I didn’t get a car until I after I turned pro. Where did you get the idea for starting up Magic Man Customs? Was it always a dream of yours to start up a customizing business like that? My business partner and friend Frankie (aka Future Legend) has always had body shops and

has always worked on cars. We’re partners in the Future Legend clothing brand and he asked if I wanted to go in on Magic Man Customs together. It’s been great from the start. At the end of the day, I stand by my brand and people are happy with the results. Tell us about your personal cars that you have gotten worked on at your shop. How does each of your cars define different aspects of your lifestyle? Well, the Benz is my everyday car. Years from now, I’m going to look back on it and think, “This car was very good to me!” It’s my most reliable car, but it’s not great in the snow. Unfortunately, I don’t have a great ride for the snow. I’ll have to work on that.

How does the Maserati fit your style? It’s the hot car to look at, especially during the summer. The Maserati Quattroporte was actually black, but I got it wrapped orange. Frankie literally hand-painted the wheels black with the Maserati symbol in the middle to match the car. You’re going to know it’s me driving down the street. What kind of mood does your Ferrari F430 put you in when you drive it? The Ferrari, man, it’s got so much power; it feels like a rocket ship when you drive it. Just the looks I get when I drive it, it feels good. Who doesn’t want a Ferrari? At Magic Man Customs, we do a lot of custom jobs. Paint, wrap jobs, everything. We threw a wrap on my Benz. Its original color is black, but we have it matte grey silver. Next I’m going to do some kind of pearl white for the summer. I want to have rides that make people “break their necks” while looking at them. So do you have your dream garage in Magic Man Customs? I pretty much have my dream garage. The only thing that we don’t do in-house is the powder coated wheels; it’s the one thing that we have to outsource. But everything else is done in-house. Once we complete that, then Magic Man Customs will be the garage I’ve always wanted.

obbie Bryant of Arkansas-based Keg Media has been building countless cover trucks for the past five years. Specializing in automotive design (specifically trucks), his creations have won numerous awards at shows across the nation, including SEMA. Last year alone, Keg Media designed 121 SEMA builds (five of them their own). When the opportunity to build a Toyota Tundra presented itself, Bryant and his crew knew they wanted to craft something like no other, coming up with the idea for their “HigherArchy” Tundra. Having worked with Complete Customs for the past three years on renderings, website designs and logos, Bryant first dropped off the truck at their McKinney, TX shop with a set of Glassworks Unlimited fiberglass fenders and bedsides, where they spent numerous weeks perfecting the body work. “Installing the prerunner fenders and rear bedsides were challenging,” says Shaun Freilich of Complete Customs. “It took lots of work getting them to fit properly.” As their second collaboration vehicle together (Complete Customs and Keg Media have two more lined up for this year’s SEMA Show), Freilich admits that it’s one of his favorite builds because of all the detail and products that went into it. “This build was unique because of the paint scheme. [Bryant] really wanted to go crazy with the paint, which is exactly how it turned out.” After its initial stop at Complete Customs, it was then off to Tomball, TX to meet up with airbrush artist Erik Contreras of Exile Air. “Erik knew there was a short time frame and did the airbrush graphics in a week on both sides, as well as interior and matching engine bay pieces,” Bryant says. “The theme is a battle on both sides of King vs. King; the dead vs. the undead.” Axalta Coating Systems also supplied the build with enough high-quality paint and clearcoat to make this truck shine like no other. 104 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

But the journey was far from over for HigherArchy since it was loaded on yet another trailer to be shipped to Full Flex Customs in Spring, TX, where its lift kit was installed after being powder coated by Spectrum Powder Coating. A 12” Bulletproof Suspension lift was used, which was then dialed up to 14” of total lift thanks to front Icon Vehicle Dynamics coilovers. The rear is leveled out with the front thanks to Atlas Suspension 10” leaf springs and Coachbuilder shackles dampened with Icon Vehicle Dynamics 2.5 reservoir shocks. The Tundra then headed back to its final destination to be finished at Complete Customs, where all the bells and whistles were added. “This is where the crunch began; there were enough parts waiting there to make any kid jealous on Christmas morning,” Bryant jokes. A set of R1 Concepts rotors and brake pads were installed before adding a set of 24x12 American Force Nightmare faceplate wheels wrapped in the newly released 40x15.50R24 Toyo Tires Open Country M/T tires. “This aggressive mud tire flowed perfectly with the evil look that the build was starting to take on,” he admits.

Freshly powder coated Road Armor bumpers were then added with a Warn Industries 10,000S Winch with synthetic cable rigged to the front bumper and finished off with a Factor 55 ProLink shackle mount. Four Rigid Industries Aviation lights were installed into the fog light holes and the new Monster Hooks swivels hung from where a clevis would usually be. A Royalty Core RX3DX Grille rounds out front end mods. But after seeing the completed look of the front, Bryant quickly realized that the stock headlights didn’t flow with the truck’s theme, so they called their friend Robert over at Plain an Simple to work his magic on a set of custom headlights. “We shipped him our factory lights, along with some Rigid Industries Aviation lights and SRMs, and he was going to perform a work of art. But one thing was missing; we needed something else. That’s when we contacted the guys over at JW Speaker, who shipped us a pair of their 8700 Evolution headlights in black, which gave us the look we needed.” The stock headlights were taken apart and color-matched, then some red Oracle LEDs were added to give the front of the truck “a glowing evil look,” Bryant explains adding that it was as if the “the truck had some wicked red eyes.” With the front all done, the crew at Complete Customs set their attention to the back, spraying in a black 106 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

Scorpion bed Liner to give the inside of the bed a fresh new look. “We knew from the beginning we wanted to run a fifth wheel and tire for a spare so we called on the guys over at Tiregate, who supplied us with their awesome prerunnerstyle swing out spare tire gate.” A Road Armor bumper that also houses some Rigid Industries SRM lights and two more Monster Hooks swivels round out rear modifications. With the outside complete, it was time to focus all the attention to the Tundra’s interior, with Complete Customs installing a set of black leather seats with charcoal contrast stitching from Roadwire Leather Interiors. The headliner was then covered with black Ultrasuede from Toray and Icon Vehicle Dynamics topped off the clean look with a brushed billet replacement shifter. “Knowing we couldn’t keep this truck off the cop’s radar, we called on Escort to send us their new Passport Radar Detector.” But Keg Media didn’t stop there. “With the exterior and interior on lock we definitely needed some performance to go with the eye-turning looks of this truck. From past searches we knew we would be short on performance when it came to tuners; that is, until we discovered that the tuning specialists over at Bully Dog just released the new GT T+ Tuner. It didn’t take us long to make the call and get one delivered to the shop.” To have the Tundra pack a punch, Complete Customs installed a set of Doug Thorley long tube ceramic coated headers and a full stainless steel exhaust system from Borla with their new black tips finished the set up. “With the exhaust opened up ready to breathe we needed a better way to get fresh air and the new Airaid cold air intake fit the bill perfectly.” Despite being finished, Bryant still thought something was missing. “We knew exactly what it needed and that was the custom oneoff Coachbuilder Roof Rack provided by David Ekstrom. They are without a doubt the cleanest 108 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

and most well built roof racks in the industry. Believe me, it was put to the test. David only builds one-offs, no two are alike, and that is exactly what this one off truck needed. It was the crown of the king - the crown of HigherArchy.” Finally their show-ready Tundra was ready to be unveiled, which was at last year’s SEMA Show. But shortly after its grand debut, the truck was involved in a hit and run accident, where a vehicle struck the driver’s side rear tire at such a high speed that the Tundra lost control and

flipped. According to Bryant, nobody was injured and there wasn’t as much damage as there should have been since the custom roof rack took most of the impact when the truck flipped over onto its roof. “Without a doubt, this is what kept the truck’s occupants safe, who were able to walk away with only minor cuts and bruises,” he says. “It’s a shame this truck wasn’t on the road wreaking havoc like it was designed to do. The truck is rebuildable, though. Will we see it again? You will just have to wait and see…”

With this in mind, the American Force crew set out to build an urban assault vehicle that would be ready to tackle all the elements while looking good doing it. More than satisfied with the outcome, Chin thinks it can even conquer a zombie apocalypse (because you really never know when one might pop up, right?). “We want to be ready for zombies,” he jokes. Taking two months to complete and boasting more than $25,000 in aftermarket parts, the Sahara was transformed from a more than capable road-faring SUV to an ultimate rolling showcase, with massive 40x15.50R22LT Toyo Open Country M/T tires. “For Crawlers (guys who like rock crawling) they use bigger tires because of the taller sidewalls. They lower the tire’s air pressure which allows the tire to have more grip on the rocks.” The bigger, the better! Go big or go home.” Chin says, laughing. To complement its mud terrains, Chin used 22x14 American Force Master FP5 rims from their Faceplate Series Wheels that debuted at SEMA 2013. These wheels come with blank aluminum plates that allows customers to paint, powder coat, airbrush or wrap to their specific tastes and customization needs. All you have to do is bolt them on to your already installed wheels and you’re done! And the best thing is that the plates can easily be refinished anytime, so you can give your build a small makeover without a huge expense. According to Chin, “These wheels are perfect for those with commitment issues.” Suspension is key when building a Jeep and to accommodate for the 40” tall wheel and tire fitment, so a custom-powder coated Rubicon Express 6” suspension was chosen, along with Fabtech Dirt Logic front coilover shocks and Fox reservoir rear shocks to ease up a bumpy ride. “Besides the wheels and tires, the suspension was another highlight, Chin says. “It needed to

be high enough to handle any debris or flood we might encounter [in case of an apocalypse].” To provide some major stopping power, a TeraFlex big brake kit was also included. Exterior protection comes way of colormatched Smittybilt XRC armor, which includes both front and rear bumpers that can withstand practically anything it encounters on trails, streets and more. To accompany the new exterior modifications and add to its rugged good looks, custom-painted Bushwacker flat fender flares were chosen. After the exterior and suspension were complete it was time to focus on the Jeep’s

For auxiliary lighting that would provide more “attitude,”Chin and his crew opted for Rigid Industries LED taillights, 50” LED top mounted LED light bar, 13” bumper mounted LED light bar, front LED fog lights and rear LED back lights. There’s also HID headlights and custom undercarriage LED lighting. With lighting complete, the Jeep can now illuminate any offroad terrain during dusk excursions. So far, the final product is beloved by all who see it; with every show it attends resulting in a huge crowd hovering over the Jeep. It’ll be touring the circuit until American Force Wheels is ready to build their next ultimate off-roading ride.

or a 24-year-old college student, Stean Durias has his sh*t together. Not only is he studying Economics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, but Durias already has his own business – buying and reselling exclusive sneaker releases. And on top of all that, he’s the founder of the car club, EuroSquad - that focuses on modifying European rides (as well as automotive photography, which he does as a hobby). And the college student rides around campus and Sin City in his 2008 BMW M3. Thanks in part to a huge tax return last year, Durias was able to purchase the M3. “It was either the E60 M5 or the E90/92 M3,” he details. “But I was geared toward buying the coupe since I already had two sedans.” After scouring the Internet for a month, he finally found his M3 via a local private seller. Durias became obsessed with BMW M models after admiring the vehicles while shooting for MFest – an annual festival that celebrates and focuses on BMW’s M vehicles. “I would meet so

many M enthusiasts and would envy their cars,” he says. “M3s are just amazing machines that are made with balance and power. The E92 M3 model that I bought will be the last generation of naturally aspirated engines, as BMW is stepping into the new generation of forced induction M3 [models].” As a fan of European cars, the M3 was destined to be customized. “I always buy my cars with intentions of modifying them, that’s why I wanted an M3; because of the availability of aftermarket parts.” He first envisioned a clean and simple build, with wheels, suspension and exhaust, but once he saw the Liberty Walk M3 he was convinced his vision needed to be reworked. The first two Liberty Walk M3s blew everyone away with their super wide styling and slammed ride height, which is what caught Durias’ eye. “When I first saw its render debut last year, I knew it was something crazy - especially when the kit required the fenders to be cut and the idea of putting rivets on an M3 made people wary.”

It took him almost a year to eventually see one up close and personal, which was Liberty Walk CEO Wataru Kato’s own M3 that was at LTMW in El Monte, CA. After joking around with LTMW’s owner, Long Tran, about getting one for his own M3, Durias went back the next day and gave his down payment. With the Liberty Walk widebody conversion as the main focus of his M3’s transformation, Durias opted for a few more mods to make his M3 a truly bespoke machine. He changed its original Space Gray paint to an eye-catching Imola Red and added a custom-built set of wheels and tires to fit with the Liberty Walk fender flares. “Luckily, my good friend Manu at Aristo Collection was looking to sponsor a car for his new line of three-piece forged wheels and Nitto was kind enough to give me a deal on a set of their super

wide, Invo tires.” Because he wanted to redo the interior, he purchased a BMW performance LED steering wheel and a pair of Recaro Pole Position seats that were reupholstered to match the M3’s “red fox” interior. To add a bit more power, a custom exhaust system and ECU tune by Evolve Automotive were installed. “My favorite modification, of course, is the Liberty Walk body kit,” Durias says. “It sets it a part from all the other M3s. People are always coming up to me to compliment the body kit.” The build is far from complete since he plans to add a big brake kit and supercharger soon, but is currently enjoying his dressed up M3 before he starts to dwindle down its use to only special occasions. “It used to be my daily driver, but after what I have done to it, it’s going be garaged more.” With over $20,000 in modifications, any customizing enthusiast would probably do the same, too. Good thing he still has his 2006 BMW 235i and 2004 VW Jetta (which also boast mods) to get him around Sin City as he finishes school and grows his sneaker business.

e often forget that the price of freedom for Americans was paid by the service of so many military men and women who voluntarily fought to defend our country. Damon Flippo of Flippobilt Customs out of Glendale, Arizona (as well as Rigid Industries’ marketing/race coordinator) wanted to remind those he encountered out in the open road while paying tribute to those serving in the United States Marine Corps. So he came up with a specially themed 2011 Ford F-350 Dually truck that debuted at last year’s SEMA show.

“I wanted to build a tow rig that represented my love, respect and honor for my father, grandfather, uncles, friends, myself and all those who have served this country in the US Marine Corps,” Flippo details. While past builds have always been showworthy trucks, Flippo’s good friend, Michael Megdal of Mega Motorsports mentioned he build a tow rig for his other trucks. Intrigued by the idea, he immediately set out to build the ultimate tow rig, choosing a Ford F-350 as the base vehicle because of its massive size and

look. “It demands respect since it’s a diesel and a Dually,” he notes. But it wasn’t until he was hanging with a few Marine buddies that he decided on its USMC theme. What first started out as a completely random airbrushed custom turned into a cohesive mural on wheels thanks to Chad from CR Designs in Phoenix, AZ, who helped clean up the initial renderings, allowing Flippo the chance to envision the outcome of his “Project Jarhead” Dually even better. CR Designs also airbrushed the Dually’s matte black stripes while the centerpiece on the

hood commemorates Marines with its waving American flag that boasts the USMC eagle, globe and anchor insignia, in addition to the iconic image of the Battle of Iwo Jima. On one side of the piece thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a Marine honoring servicemen who came before him, while the other pillar welcomes the USMC to modern times. Besides its impressive airbrush work on the hood that honors our countryâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Marines, Flippo wanted to include only the best aftermarket accessories and products around. Stopping power for the massive beast is provided by SSBC front and rear brakes and rolls on Toyo Proxes S/T II 305/35R24 tires with 24x8 American Force Inferno wheels finished in matte black. To provide it with a meaner stance, Flippo decided to slam it to the ground, causing some to question the mod despite his admiration for the finished custom. Since Flippo works at Rigid Industries, it only made sense that he’d sport their products on “Project Jarhead,” using a custom Rigid Industries grille with a 30” light bar, in addition to the company’s Q Series foglight replacement kit

and 20” bumper LED bar with kit for 2011 to 2015 Superduty. Flippo also opted for Plain an Simple LED taillights and headlights, as well as an A.R.E. Z-Series shell. “Project Jarhead” has had a positive response from both military and civilian admirers and has already attended numerous car shows since its creation. “It’ll attend as many shows as it can because I want everyone to remember past, present and future Marines whenever they see my Dually!” Special thanks to my wife Krystal, sons Anthony and Justin, all my family for support and help.

he Big Apple got its early taste of DUB culture when the 2014 DUB Show Tour touched down during the highly anticipated New York International Auto Show from April 25th-27th.
