here’s something regal about a Rolls-Royce. Maybe it’s because it’s the luxury ride that’s meant to chauffeur kings and queens around, or maybe it’s the car’s hand-assembled aspects that entices wealthy owners with limitless budgets. Although the Phantom still reigns supreme in this regard, the newest addition to the royal family, the Wraith, is quickly becoming a favorite among those who don’t flinch at its $284K starting price. For this issue, we’re featuring three of these Wraiths. First up is DJ Mustard. As the hottest producer in today’s hip-hop game, his garage is filled with four-wheeled toys. As his beats continue to be in high demand in the industry, the popular producer is looking to add even more luxurious pieces to his car collection. Then there’s the hard-hitting safety from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dashon Goldson. Not only does he own the Wraith, but also its bigger brother, the Ghost. He told himself that he’d get a Rolls-Royce when he entered the NFL and thanks to an amazing career, he’s been lucky enough to afford two Double-Rs. Although he doesn’t own a Wraith yet, up-and-comer Quincy has his eyes on one. No stranger to luxurious living, Quincy is working to find success on his own terms and hopes to one day be able to enjoy a stacked garage just like his stepdad, P-Diddy. Until then, he has no problem navigating the streets in his Jeep as he works on his acting and music career. Big luxury land yachts aren’t for everyone. As soon as rapper YG came up, he knew he needed a Porsche Panamera in his driveway. He even placed it in his music video, causing quite a stir with fans when they noticed it cruising around L.A. Although it might not be an authentic Rolls-Royce, Nokturnal Car Club member Francisco Alecio created a truly unique custom with his “Phantom King,” which has a Phantom front-end conversion. His ride has taken home numerous trophies thanks to its quality one-of-a-kind customizations. And for those who prefer show-and-go Jeeps, Fab Fours has created an attention-grabbing Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that you either love or hate, but one thing’s for sure, you’re going to snap a picture of it and share it with your friends. So there you have it, no matter what your tastes are, you’re sure to find something in this Issue you’d have no problem borrowing for the weekend.

BEAST MODE I can’t believe you guys were able to actually get an interview from Marshawn Lynch! That guy is notorious for not speaking to the press and the NFL even fined him for that. Kudos to DUB! I’m a huge fan of Monster products and take my Monster headphones everywhere with me, so I’m sure that his custom system must bang harder in his Aventador! Kenneth Z. Via email When you have such a dope ride like an Aventador that’s been hooked up with audiophilegrade products, how can you not want to talk about it? We were lucky Marshawn wanted to open up about his ride and collaboration with Monster, but any football questions were out of the question. But still, getting an interview from someone who doesn’t give them made us feel special.
PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE
MAGIC MAN CUSTOMS Who would have thought that boxer Paulie Malignaggi had his own car shop? If it weren’t for your feature on him in Issue 90, I would have never known that he was so interested in cars. Guess it’s a pretty cool gig to fall back on when he retires from the sport. Benny A. Via email Everyone needs something to fall back on when they retire, and Paulie found the perfect thing when he teamed up with his partner and friend, Frankie. Paulie has always been interested in cars and has an impressive garage himself, flossing a Benz, Maserati and Ferrari. Not too shabby for a shop owner, right? After he retires from boxing, he’ll not only have his shop, but a career as a boxing analyst, too, which should keep him pretty busy.
M3 OBSESSIONS
At 24, I barely knew what the hell I was doing and driving a bucket. Reading about 24-year-old Stean Durias is both inspiring and depressing. Depressing because I was no where near as ambitious as he was at that age, and inspiring because it proves that you can make your dreams a reality with hard work. Opting for the Liberty Walk widebody kit was a good move by Durias, because otherwise, there wouldn’t be much of a wow factor to his ride. I’m not sure how Joe Corvo waited so long for his classic Lincoln Continental to be done. I would’ve never waited 10 full years, especially if I had money. He should have paid more to have it done faster. A ride like that needs to be enjoyed, not sitting in a garage! Tarick H. Via email When you have such a beautiful old school ride like a Lincoln Continental, you want to make sure everything is done right when fixing it up to your own expectations. These types of customization jobs should never be rushed and Joe Corvo understood this, which is why he didn’t mind waiting as long as he did. Any car enthusiast understands that a restoration can take anywhere from months and even years when you want something done right. The latter is the typical timeframe for most intensive fabrication projects like Corvo’s Continental. But in the end all that waiting paid off because he’s now rolling around in his dream ride!
20 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014
Gino E. We feel you, Gino! And you definitely can’t hate on Durias for his entrepreneurial spirit. He hustles hard with his sneaker business to afford his M3 and all the modifications he’s put into it. He just knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to work for it. And, yes, we agree that the addition of the Liberty Walk kit was a good idea because it makes it one of only a handful of LB-styled M3s on the road, which is exactly what Durias wanted.

AUTOMOTIVE AUTONEWSWIRENEWS
DODGE MAY ADD HELLCAT ENGINE TO 2015 SRT CHARGER Fiat-Chrysler made some pretty smart decisions to update the vehicles for Dodge. What really took the automotive world by storm was the announcement of the new highperformance Supercharged Hellcat engine that will be put in the 2015 SRT Challenger. The new engine will supposedly push out more than
600 horsepower, making it the most powerful engine to be put in the Challenger. What many people have always wondered (and wanted) was the possibility of that engine being placed in the new Charger. Is it possible? Previous announcements from Fiat-Chrysler hints that the SRT Charger could be the next vehicle to
receive this engine, making it the fastest American sedan in the world. And we don’t see why it wouldn’t, considering that the Charger and Challenger share the same chassis and suspension components. Dear Fiat-Chrysler, quit teasing us with these announcements make this happen!
$1-MILLION MERCEDES-BENZ S-CLASS Watch out Rolls-Royce, MercedesBenz is looking to build an even more expensive ride that costs more than twice as much as the top-of-the-line Rolls-Royce! When Mercedes-Benz releases its S-Class Pullman next year, it’ll be the world’s most expensive sedan. The special S-Class will cost a cool million and features armor plating, and four rear seats that will face each other and be separated from the chauffeur in the front by a partition window. It’ll also be reminiscent of past models owned by the likes of Coco Chanel and former Philippine
President Ferdinand Marcos, to further demonstrate that the brand still stands for “absolute elite, luxury and opulence,” mentions Tim Urquhart, a London-based analyst with IHS to Bloomberg.
HARLEY-DAVIDSON’S PROJECT LIVEWIRE ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE Harley-Davidson is going green! The company has announced their Project LiveWire, the company’s first electric motorcycle. But don’t get too excited, because it’s not for sale yet. The electric motorcycle is actually designed to get customer insight into rider expectations of an electric H-D bike for future versions. It’s available to test ride at more than 30 dealers across the States and will expand into Canada and Europe next year. As
H-D gathers feedback from riders, they’ll eventually come up with a for-sale electric bike. Right now, there’s not much in terms of specs, but they did mention that the bike “offers a visceral riding experience with tire-shedding acceleration and an unmistakable new sound.” If you’re interested in test riding the Project LiveWire electric bike, check out projectlivewire.com to see what dealerships will offer the test rides.
BMW M4 LAPS NÜRBURGRING IN 7:52 We all know BMW M cars are fast and the new M4 Coupe is no exception. With BMW replacing the older E92 M3 Coupe, they made the coupe wider than its predecessor and also bumped up the power numbers. Thanks to the controversial change from the previous coupe’s 4.0-liter high-revving V8 to a more modern twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, horsepower hasn’t changed by a lot (now 425 hp compared to the previous 414 hp), but torque numbers increased by 111 lb.-ft. (406 lb.-ft. compared to 295 lb.-ft.). It’s no
22 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014
surprise that the car would be overall better than before, but by how much? BMW M proved that at the true testing place for all performance cars: the Nürburgring. The new BMW M4 clocked in at 7:52, which is a staggering 13 seconds faster than the previous M3. That’s not super car fast like the McLaren P1 or Porsche 918 Spyder, but for a typical (and somewhat more affordable than the vehicles listed above) coupe intended for both street and track use, that’s very impressive.

nna Valles grew tired of standing on the sidelines at car shows while her husband showed off his custom build, and one day wanted her own show car. Originally eyeing the Lincoln MKZ as the base car for her first project vehicle, she quickly changed her mind and decided to go with the Hyundai Sonata. “It had everything I wanted and the little extra 2.0 turbo, didn’t hurt either,” she details. “Besides the MKZ, I was also looking at the Ford Fusion. I wanted something different from what others were already building.” Because her husband is an experienced builder, Anna realized the work and time needed to build a show-worthy ride and knew she wanted something that was classy and clean. “I wanted my color scheme to be white and teal and everything to match the body style of the Sonata,” she says. “It’s funny because at first, I wasn’t really thinking ‘build,’ but only envisioned my new car to have a classy look with some sexiness to it. My original plan was just to lower it and add some wheels.” Once she caught the customizing bug, Anna knew she needed more than just a modified suspension and wheels if she was to have it ready by the 2013 SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV.
DUB MAGAZINE 2014 | 41
Anna’s first build - a 2013 Hyundai Sonata - is unlike any other on the road with it’s subtle yet head-turning looks.
Realizing that aftermarket parts for a Sonata weren’t going to be easy to find, Valles started approaching aftermarket companies to see if they were interested in sponsoring her build. “The [aftermarket] at the time was mainly focused on JDM cars like Nissans or Scions and/ or KDM sports cars like the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and Veloster and Kia Optimas,” she details. “The Sonata was thought to be more of a family sedan, usually purchased by a non-car enthusiast who would never consider modifying it. I had to approach companies and hoped they would see the demand for their products after showcasing what one can do to a Sonata.” While some companies rejected Anna’s proposal for her custom Sonata project, the companies that did see value in modifying a family car are proud to have their name associated with the build, which consists of numerous enhancements, both inside and out. First up was lighting with Concept 3 Performance installing their C3P LED interior kit, door strips, brake and reverse light bulbs HID headlights
and fog lights. Daytime running lights were added and rear bumper reflectors replaced with LED brake and running light replacements. And a week before the big debut at SEMA, exLED imported a set of 2014 Hyundai Sonata headlights and taillights from Korea, as well as installing a custom teal interior and trunk lighting. To provide it with a comfy everyday ride, Anna opted for a Universal Air Suspension air ride set up that’s powered by VIAIR Dual 480c compressors. She used a HKS Blow Off Valve to get the car’s turbo noticed and provided a personal touch to the R1 Concepts Performance Brakes with custom engraved rotors and brake pads that say “Classy Sexy.” For her wheels, Valles chose 20” Nutek Forged Wheels Series 712 in 42 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014
Candy Teal and wrapped them in Toyo Proxes 4 Plus tires. “As of now, my favorite part of the build are my Nutek Wheels,” she says. “I’ve always wanted wheels in teal and I knew I had to have them made by Nutek because I fell head over heels for them at SEMA. The quality and pure elegance gives my build the stamp of sexiness.” A standout feature on Anna’s Sonata is the PowerBass audio system setup in the trunk, which is always “a shocker” at events, she mentions. “They’re amazed that the installation took only three days to do,” she says, which was because it needed to be ready to be shown at PowerBass’ booth at the 2014 CES show. “I contacted A&G Custom Motoring in East Los

G’s eye-catching red 2012 Porsche Panamera is as famous as he is. He forever immortalized his Panamera in his song “Who Do You Love ft. Drake,” with the lyrics: “Porsche sittin’ on Forgi’s/N*ggas can’t afford these/The Panamera sh*ttin’ on the 9-11.” It even makes a cameo in the song’s music video, with YG behind the driver’s seat taking his Panamera for a spin. Currently the rapper’s “it” vehicle, the Panamera immediately became a fixation for YG (born Kennon Daequan Ray Jackson) when he first laid eyes on the vehicle during one of his visits to Miami, Fl. “I was in South Beach a couple of years back and was seeing all types of sh*t driving by – two-tone Phantoms, Bentleys, Lambos and cars I’d never seen - and was like, ‘What the f*ck?’ when I saw a Panamera hit the corner,” the 24-year-old, Compton-raised rapper explained. “My friend told me that it was the new Porsche and I was like, ‘I gotta get that. So when I was in the [right] situation to get one, I got it.” Already a stunner, the Porsche Panamera doesn’t need much when it comes to modifications. YG opted to keep it clean and simple, but made sure to make it stand out with a traffic-stopping red wrap and some 24” Forgiato wheels on his video vixen of a ride. “I always gotta ride on 24s. If it ain’t on some 24s then it ain’t my sh*t,” he describes about his preference in wheels. “But when I first bought it

out in L.A., nobody’s car was f*cking with mine. My sh*t was out so hard that when people saw it, they went back to try to get theirs the same way to do something to look better than my sh*t. But I had the best looking car in L.A. at the end of last year. I don’t know about that now.” However, YG doesn’t mind if other Panameras are flossing harder than his since he’s actually looking to take attention away from his red Panamera. “Because I put the car in my video, people know when they see it that it’s me out on the freeway or streets. Everybody be rolling down the windows and sh*t. I’m thinking of taking the [red] wrap off.” Before his attention-grabbing Panamera, YG was rolling around the City of Angels in a BMW 745Li – his first big car purchase when he started cashing in on his music. “That BMW was like, in the hood, the car with the money,” he describes. “At the time, I was coming up and had to style my sh*t with a car that would stick out. I started

with some dope sh*t, then traded it in to get the Panamera.” However, YG won’t be trading up to a new ride any time soon, since he’s always out touring and away from home to enjoy any new vehicles. “I’m just getting money right now,” he answers, entirely focused on his musical endeavors, which evolved over time. Despite his 2009 hit single “Toot It and Boot It,” YG waited five years to release his debut album, My Krazy Life. “It wasn’t time for me to drop anything,” he confesses. “My situation wasn’t right. It was hard to hear my name with that song. It wasn’t a good song that represented me and all that.” After grinding for a few years and putting in work doing regional tours, releasing mixtapes and perfecting his craft, 2014 felt “right” for him to put something out and now he’s currently one of hip-hop’s rising talents.

THE DUB SHOWS PLAYED A BIG PART IN MY CAREER, AS FAR AS WHAT I WAS DOING TO MAKE IT BIG AT THAT TIME.”
DUB already knew he’d make a statement for West Coast hip-hop. He’s been featured on numerous DUB Show Tour stops in the past, with his most recent performance back at the 2012 Los Angeles DUB Show. “The DUB Shows played a big part in my career, as far as what I was doing to make it big at that time. It provided me with a huge promotion since it’s one of the biggest events in L.A. for hip-hop, rap and the car scene. Those shows are always sold out and performing there played a big part in my grind up.” As the rising star looks to make 2014 the “Year of YG,” representing for the West Coast with his lyrical prowess and bouncy beats (courtesy of friend and collaborator DJ Mustard who co-founded the Pu$haz Ink imprint with YG back in 2010), YG doesn’t want to look too much into the future regarding his car collection. Although he admires the whips that sit pretty in Yo Gotti’s and Meek Mill’s garages, all he wants to add is his dream ride – a Bentley Mulsanne. “It’s some classic sh*t with its big body and old school grille. But my sh*t needs to be successful because I won’t get none of that if it ain’t.”

Making good on his promise, Goldson has both a Ghost and Wraith sitting pretty in his garage, in addition to a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, Fisker Karma, Range Rover and Jaguar XJ. Goldson’s Ghost is his “all purpose kind of car,” mentioning that he can either drive it himself or hire a driver to take him out when he’s looking for a fun night out. His Wraith, on the other hand, is a ride he couldn’t pass up and was the natural progression after falling in love with the Ghost. “You can feel the difference in the two cars,” he says. “The Ghost is bigger than the Wraith,

but the Wraith is sportier. It’s not as fast as a sports car, but it has that feel and look to it.” Because he didn’t see many Fisker Karmas out on the road, he decided to add it to his fleet. “It’s eye-catching for sure. I like rare things and it’s a rare car to see when you’re driving. I know there’s a lot of talk about problems that they have, but, honestly, I’ve never had any problems with mine. I like the way it drives. It’s not as fast as it looks, though, but it’s still a great car.” All that’s missing from his collection is that Lamborghini he first wanted before he entered the NFL, which is his next big car purchase. Torn between either an Aventador or the upcoming Huracán, Goldson has been giving the Aventador a thorough test drive thanks to a friend who loaned him one for a few weeks. But because he’s a bit of a speedster, he’s scared of what will happen when he owns one. “I’m scared because I’m a fast driver,” he laughs. “And that car is so fast. I had a 2007 Cadillac Escalade when I first got into the league and I used to drive that thing as if it were a Lamborghini. My friends would tell me I couldn’t get a Lambo because I’d kill myself in one because of the way I drive. There’s so much muscle in that car that you barely touch the gas and that thing just jumps. All I know is that I’m going to get one really soon, I just have to decide which model I really want.” But until he gets his Lamborghini his Jaguar is his favorite car at the moment. Complimenting the way it drives and “hugs the road,” it’s his favorite because he gets more comments on the Jag than any of his other cars. “It gets more attention than either Rolls-Royce. But it’s supp’d up, which is probably why.” 72 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

Goldson had it wrapped in black satin and added a touch of gold to the wheels, in addition to an exhaust, to make it stand out from others like it. And when he’s out in Florida during the season, Goldson has his Mercedes-Benz CL and a 2013 Dodger Charger that’s customized with a wrap, custom wheels, exhaust and more. But this season, he’ll include his Jag to his Florida-based stable because he doesn’t like that one “just sitting around” – something that he doesn’t have the other rides do much of either. “I drive each one at least once a week,” he says. “I mean, why wouldn’t I drive them all? I bought each one to drive and enjoy them, and that’s what I plan to do.” Driving luxurious cars might be one of Goldson’s passions, but his first love is football. After becoming interested in the sport as a kid playing Pop Warner at a neighborhood park in Carson, CA, he then continued in high school despite a few setbacks from hanging with the wrong crowd. Finally, in his junior year, he became focused again and, with the help of his coaches, was able to play college football for the University of Washington before getting selected in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Outside of football, Goldson is already thinking about his future. Involved in several real estate investments, his most recent one is his high-end cigar lounge, SmoKing’s, in Ladera Heights, CA. “I’d like to do a chain of them,” he details, adding that he has a lot more plans in the works and hopes to get all business ventures in order before he retires. “I have an entrepreneur mentality and am networking with lots of people to get more things going.” Not only is Goldson extremely ambitious and a talented athlete, but he’s a man of his word and is on his way to creating an empire for himself - complete with a collection of fine rides. 74 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

itbull is one of today’s biggest names in pop music, making us all shake with his Latin-infused tunes that are dance floor staples. Hailing from the M-I-A, the top dog in music has always been interested in rides, first showing us what he pushed around Miami’s streets back in Issue 30. The then 24-year-old Pitbull showcased his 1972 Chevy Caprice that featured a boomin’ sound system with 15” Kicker subs and Memphis Audio components powered by 3,000W, while riding on 24” Davin Revolution 4.2 Spinners which were color-matched to the Caprice. The car’s Billet Eagle steering wheel includes intricate details like milled finger notches on the backside of the grip
ring, providing proper control for Pitbull as he cruised the sun-splashed roads of Miami. While his Caprice fulfilled his fixation with classic Chevys, his 2004 Hummer H2 provided him with some modern creature comforts and lots of room for him and his crew to head out to his favorite South Beach spots. Like the Caprice, his Hummer featured intricate details. To entertain its passengers, it boasted (9) TVs, a Tracvision Satellite, a Pioneer AVIC N2 Navigation head unit and some 24” DUB Spine Spinners wrapped in Hankook Ventus 295/40R24 tires. The cabin also features a chrome interior kit and a matching burntorange colored steering wheel.

hether you’re in a club on a Friday night or cruising in your ride, you’re bound to hear a DJ Mustard joint. Currently, as hip-hop’s reigning producer, his beats are everywhere boasting his up-tempo, hyperminimalistic club joints that every artist wants tagged to their name. Since 2001, DJ Mustard (born Dijon McFarlane) has had 17 Billboard Top 100 jams, including his first big hit, Tyga’s infectious “Rack City.” Other popular joints that made the list are 2 Chainz’ “I’m Different,” Ty Dollar $ign’s “Paranoid,” and Kid Ink’s “Show Me.” Before he was topping musical charts, Mustard was DJ’ing house parties after getting his first gig at a family party when he was just 11 years old. After honing in on his turntablist skills and building a name for himself around local clubs in L.A., Mustard decided it was time to start messing around with beats. “It was a natural progression for me. I never studied it or nothing and just perfected it on my own because I wanted to be the best at making beats.” And perfecting it he has, now getting paid massive amounts for his beats. There’s no doubt that DJ Mustard is riding high, with 2014 as the breakout year for the notable producer. And like any other rising star in his shoes, Mustard made sure to stock up his garage on some necessities, including a Mercedes-Benz AMG and an Audi A7. “I really became interested in cars when I was able to buy them,” the 24-year-old beat-maker laughs. “I’ve liked nice cars for a long time but couldn’t really afford them until I started making money. And when I got enough cash to buy cars, I bought a few that I thought fit my style.”

Although Mustard is more than capable of spending mad cash on some very lavish rides, the modest producer isn’t about all that right now. Instead, the West Coast native is entirely focused on “stacking [his] bread.” “I haven’t added much yet to my garage,” he says. “I’m focused on my career right now and making sure my money is right before I go off and spend cash.” It’s a wise mentality for the up-and-coming producer who’s looking to cement his name in hip-hop for the long haul, noting how he wants to be the best at his craft. “I just want to be better than everybody in the world. Be better than anybody who ever did this.” And to be the best, Mustard knows he can’t live for today’s glory, even though he’s the hottest producer in music. “That’s for right now,” he admits. “I won’t stay like this forever. I always have to be on top of my hustle. I can’t stop and think about that stuff because it’s just for right now. That’s cool and all, but it’s not forever, which is why I’m always looking toward the future.” And that future isn’t just about making beats for others, but also solidifying himself as an artist in his own right with the release of his debut album, 10 Summers, out this month. While he may not spit his own lyrics, fans will be treated with Mustard party staples and vocal contributions by many of their favorite artists like Ty Dollar $ign, 2 Chainz and his Pushaz Ink crew, including his good friend YG. Earlier this year, YG dropped his debut album, My Krazy Life, which he produced the majority of. The two have been doing big things in music since they first befriended each other, with Mustard now YG’s official DJ and co-founder of their Pushaz Ink imprint. “We met through a mutual friend and when we did, we just connected. We were just really cool from then on and have been making music together ever since.” Now the two are coming up
together, representing for West Coast hip-hop, with both focused on their careers before they go out and spend big bucks on growing their garages. But just because Mustard is investing his cash in his career doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his eyes on some new rides, mentioning how much he’d like to have a Rolls-Royce Wraith or Ferrari in the near future. “I really like luxury rides,” he comments as he scoped out all the luxurious amenities the Wraith has to offer. “The Wraith’s design is what really catches my eye. Its shape is nice and it has lots of smooth lines. I also really like the moon roof it has.” While the Wraith might be his first choice, Mustard can’t help but admire the Ferrari F430 for its sexiness and sportiness. “I don’t mind fast cars and would definitely get one when the time 102 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

comes.” And if all goes well with the DJ Mustard empire, he’s looking to get his number one dream ride – a Bugatti – and maybe even have a garage like that of fellow hip-hop artist Yo Gotti, which he greatly admires. Until then, Mustard is more than fine with his two rides, adding that he’s too busy traveling and working to really enjoy them to the fullest. “I’m just working really hard trying to close out 2014 with a bang as I make more beats and release my album,” he says. “Next up is maybe winning a Grammy.” Then after that, a Wraith just might be on his To Do list…

any would consider Quincy a very lucky man. As the son of former top model Kim Porter and the stepson of music mogul P. Diddy, Quincy has been in the limelight since he was a kid and now the 23-year-old is finally stepping out on his own terms. The artist/actor is looking to blaze a new trail in the entertainment industry, first with his upcoming debut album full of “feel good joints” and then with his charm on the big screen. But just because he had a privileged life growing up doesn’t mean any of his new endeavors were given to him on a silver platter. Instead, the rising star is working hard to create a name for himself apart from his famous family. We caught up with Quincy to talk about cars, family and his up-andcoming career in both music and film! Did you have a ride growing up? I did. My Mee-Maw (RIP my angel) bought me my first car - a Mustang - when I was 15. I was kind of obsessed with the stick shift. I felt I was a race car driver and that I was doing more than just driving. As a kid it got me way too excited and that scared my grandmother, too, because she thought I was going to become a race car driver and that wasn’t a path she wanted me to take. She didn’t want me to like it too much. She then ended up letting me drive her car which was a Volkswagen. I wasn’t supposed to be driving yet, either. I was in the pre-permit stage so I wasn’t really worried about the car. How has your taste in cars evolved since then? It’s evolved in an amazing way. Growing up in the South, I was all about the old school cars. I fell in love with customizations like Louis Vuitton on the interior of a car door and stuff like that. But as I grew up and matured I realized that those types of customizations are sort of tacky now. I’m more about the class and luxury now and not so much about the crazy customizations. But I’m definitely into sports cars. I love Lamborghini, Aston Martin and other whips like that.
110 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014
I’M MORE ABOUT THE CLASS AND LUXURY NOW AND NOT SO MUCH ABOUT THE CRAZY CUSTOMIZATIONS.
What are you pushing now? Right now I’m driving a Jeep Wrangler. That was also my favorite car growing up. My mom had one and I always wanted a Jeep because she had a two-door one back in the day. I also have a Range Rover that my brother is driving right now and looking at picking up the Wraith. Customizing Jeeps is huge right now. Did you do anything to yours? Yeah, when I first got it, I had it slightly customized. I recently just took it into the shop because it was past due for some new upgrades and I can’t wait to share the photos of the new installments. I definitely wanted to go for that commando look with an Army green to it. I’m not going for a flashy look but more of a rugged, wild-boy look. I want more of an off-road feel to it.
DUB MAGAZINE 2014 | 111
Are there any other cars you have your eyes on? I definitely love the Lamborghini Aventador and Rolls-Royce Wraith, those are my favorites right now. As far as looks, I love the boxy look like the Jeep, so I love the Mercedes G-Wagon. I hate that they’re not making new ones anymore. But the G-Wagon is definitely something I have my eyes on (but my mom has one, so I’m good ). And I’m not mad at the new Jag XJs. One of my homies has it and I didn’t really like it until I drove it. That’s also a huge thing for me, too. I’m not a fan of anything until I drive it. I became obsessed with the G-Wagon because of the way it drives. It feels cool and different. I felt like I was driving like a mini monster truck. Are there any must-have customizations for you? I mean, usually when I first get a car it has to have a tint job just to give it that vibe. I’m not too big on color changes and all that. I like to keep it simple. I’ll do wheels and tire combinations and I’m happy right there. But when certain companies come after me and give me a hook up price, then I’ll go the extra step. Who’s car game in music do you envy and why? When I dropped off my Jeep at JC’s Customs, I
saw Chris Brown’s custom camo Aventador. It’s crazy… I was admiring the paint job, and Christian of JC’s Customs showed me what he did and I fell in love with the labor of it and how he did it from scratch. At first I thought it was just a wrap. The beauty of it is all the work put into it. Any cay car-related stories to share? I haven’t told many people this story, but I was in a high-speed chase one time with this guy. My brother got into a minor altercation with some guy at a gas station and I pulled up like five minutes later and by then, he knocked the guy out already and he was a little woozy. I was looking for my brother but he had left already. I was with some people and got out of my Jeep and that guy was getting up a bit startled. Guess he saw my brother get into a Jeep and thought I was him. The guy literally pulled up next to me got out of his car and tried to break in my window. I sped off and he chased me through L.A., running red lights for at least 30 minutes before I got super scared and called the police. I ain’t trying to die [laughs] or get arrested because some guy is chasing me. It was fun though. Usually I would have just lost him, but I was in the Jeep and his car was definitely faster than mine. He even had
driver buddies trying to block me and stuff. It was crazy! Shout out to my boy, Garrian Jones, who was with me that night. So tell us about the Lincoln Continental. I actually had one when I was 16. It was a ’64… I was young and I had it for a minute, but I didn’t keep it for too long because it was too flashy and had to be maintained consistently. I drove it a lot for the first couple of months when I got it and then it just started sitting in my garage. Once it was doing that, I thought it was best to sell her. Now that I’m older, I sort of regret it. Oh, well you can’t live in the past. This one right here for the shoot is on-point. It’s a ‘66 that’s dropped low with some air suspension and it has some custom 22” smoothies that make it look real tough. What about the Wraith? Even though I grew up around cars like these, I was actually introduced to the Wraith about a month ago. Nick Diamonds has one and I thought it was a Ghost at first. I had to do a double take and I immediately fell in love with it. This car is definitely dope; it’s spacious, smooth, and has that Rolls-Royce feel to it of being chauffeured around in even though its a coupe. It reminds me of my dad’s Maybach and Rolls-Royce Phantom when he did his cover of DUB back in the day. I’m

fortunate to be test driving this one right now so I can make a solid decision when the time comes. So what was it like growing up with P. Diddy as a stepdad? It was obviously a cool life, but it wasn’t too different from any normal household. I still had chores to do and things I had to do like a normal kid does. I wasn’t homeschooled or anything. Of course, the vacations were amazing. I got to see the world at a young age and I’m still doing that now. I love to travel. I got to see the world with my dad because that’s all he did, whether it was for business or a tour. But our family is fun and cool; we’re really close. Did growing up in a musical household prompt you to get into the music industry, too? Being surrounded by music at such a young age, you organically have a love for it. It’s something you don’t really ignore. I wasn’t ignoring it but it really wasn’t a focus of mine at first. My passion was baseball. I moved so much by the time I was in 12th grade and had already moved twice that year. So when it came time to play ball, I got the run around because my transcripts weren’t valid yet and I couldn’t be put on the varsity team. Once that settled in me – that I wouldn’t be able to play baseball - I then looked to music as my rebound. Not just because my dad was in it but because I really liked it, especially the writing aspect of it. Up until the time I was serious with it, I was always messing around with music and everybody would tell me I needed to record something because they thought I had a unique voice. I ignored that for a couple of years until I felt it in my heart. Now I’m mad at myself for not listening to a lot of people but at the end of the day, everything happens for a reason. I’m not mad at it. I’m happy where I’m at right now as I progress as an artist and perfect my craft. I have a great team behind me right now. Do you feel you have an advantage over other musicians because your dad is a famous rapper/ record executive? It’s actually a disadvantage because my father
This ’66 Lincoln Continental rolls low and slow on some custom-built 22” smoothies and Nitto Invo tires in 275/30R22
has conquered many things like the clothing industry, music, acting and more. Trying to be an artist and coming under someone like my dad, I have to work twice as hard because the industry will automatically think, “Oh, he should be good.” I gotta be better than good -not that I’m saying I have to be greater than him - I have to capture people’s attention just as good as he
did. I don’t have the time he had. I’m already in the spotlight a bit so I have to come out strong. There’s very little room for me to mess up. Timing is everything and so is patience. That’s one thing my dad taught me. I don’t like to rush things and want things to be put out at the right time, but he taught me a lot of strategic ways and I’m taking them into account. So are you doing things on your own or with your dad helping you? Of course he’s helping out, but I’m doing this on my own right now. When things get to their final point, that’s when I’ll need his last look and input. At the end of the day, I have to do this on my own just because as an artist, you’re the only one who knows and will believe what’s good for you. I’m not saying having him by my side every step of the way is a bad thing, but I have to learn on my own as well. I have to mess up and learn from my mistakes. But I’m going to definitely utilize him when the time is right because he has that genius mind that people can’t even get to. That’s my advantage I guess you can say. How would you describe your sound? I make a lot of feel good music that’s all about positivity. Even if it’s a song about a heartbreak, I like it to come across more happy instead of a downer. I like to tell a story with melodies and small, catchy riffs than purely focusing on production and lyrics. The lyrics will come but the melody is what will drive the song and get you a hit. I don’t like to cuss much on my stuff, either. I don’t have an exact release date for my debut project yet, but I’ve been working on it for about a year and a half now. It’s definitely dropping in the next couple of months, though. Any special collaborations on it? Right now I have French Montana on my debut

Are you focusing more on your acting or music career? Well since I am putting out this album, I’m focusing on music. But I’m in acting classes two to three times a week. So everything is a prime focus for me. Nothing is being favored and I’m sharing the attention. Originally, Alecio thought his Charger’s transformation would only take a few months, but as the completion date grew closer, Alecio kept calling up the latest shop where his car was being worked on to request another addition for them to complete. “Every shop that had the car kept it for a minimum of two months because of the stuff I kept thinking of.” Due to the attention to detail and all the intricate changes and modifications, the build took a little over two years to complete. 132 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014
Although the shops considered Alecio a “pain in the ass” for all his additions, the end result was something they all could be proud of. “It came out like nothing I had planned,” he confirms. “It’s 10 times better, and I thank the shops every time I can. What helped me sleep at night was that no matter what I was getting done, I knew I had the best shops in the game doing it. Whether it was audio, suspension or paint, I knew I had nothing to really worry about in the end.” When the car was revealed at the 2014 Monster Energy DUB Show in Los Angeles back in March, the response from show-goers was “unreal,” he mentions. “The detail of work was just blowing people away, myself included.” The positive reactions at the show were due to its eye-catching paint and extreme modifications, while still retaining the luxurious style Alecio sought out to accomplish – the most challenging aspect of the build. “I knew I wanted to do a lot on the Charger, but didn’t want it to look too busy or tacky.” That was accomplished by the vehicle’s color scheme and selection of staggered 30x8.5 front and 30x11.5 rear custom-built Forgiato wheels that were recommended to Alecio by Forgiato’s owner. “When I saw them, I fell in love with the design and the finish was amazing.” But going with such a big wheel wasn’t an easy fitment, which made Alecio want to do it even more. “I kept hearing, ’30s staggered on
a car? Impossible…’ so I was like, ‘Watch me do it.’” He was able to tuck them in after widening the rear by 5” and the front 2.5”, which provided the extra room it needed to accommodate wheels that usually belong on a truck. As for the car’s color scheme, Alecio spent a lot of time pondering the perfect color combination, as well as an overall theme for his Charger and ended up going with a Day of the Dead theme mixed with Lowrider-style patterns that were airbrushed by DSG Graphics. But before the murals were airbrushed, HPM Customs dressed it with Grabber Blue paint with Candy Blue Pearl accents.
But of all the modifications, it’s the interior that Alecio favors most. Since Alecio wanted to do what no other has done before, he decided to have the entire interior laced in fiberglass, including the seats – which had many wondering just how comfortable that was. “I usually tell them, ‘I don’t really know’ because I’m too happy smiling and looking at people’s reactions to the car that I don’t have time to feel if they are comfortable or not. I love the car and everything with it. If I had to sit on spikes, I’d still drive this car.” Luckily for Alecio, his Charger-turned“Phantom King” is a show-only ride. “Yes, it’s on a trailer most of the time,” he admits. “I hate when they use the word ‘trailer queen,’ but I know the people who use it haven’t built what I have. When you spend that much money and put in that much time and effort into a car, you don’t want anything to mess it up.” So far, the ride has been to many cruise nights, car meets and numerous car shows in Southern California, as well as various
car-related events in Texas. It’s also taken home countless first place trophies at car shows, a few being “Best Paint,” “Best Interior,” “Best Theme,” and, of course, “Best of Show.” Alecio plans to continue trekking to events to show off his “Phantom King” Charger before he starts to plan his next project car, which will for sure be even more radical than his gamechanging Charger.

ove it or hate it, Fab Fours’ 2014 Jeep JK Rubicon is polarizing. It makes you want to take your camera phone from your pocket and Instagram it because it’s that attention grabbing. But that was actually the intention of the build, mentions Greg Higgs, owner of the aftermarket company that’s known for their highly recognizable performance bumpers. “Love it or hate it; there’s no middle ground,” Higgs says. “But to the haters… Let it be known that the seed has been planted. You will resist, but it will grow on you… You have been warned.” With the 4-door Jeep JK Unlimited being the absolute hottest thing going right now in terms of off-road project vehicles, Fab Fours knew they wanted a build that focused on style first and foremost, with an overall package that would “put a smile on your face” regardless if you liked it or not. The design process for most builds is often tedious and long, but this one was fairly simple for the crew at Fab Fours, who decided to start with the 24” American Force Vector Wheels and build on from there. According to Higgs, Fab Fours was one of the first companies to put 24” wheels and mud terrain tires on a 4-door Jeep back in 2007 when they first arrived to market. 146 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014
LOVE IT OR HATE IT; THERE’S NO MIDDLE GROUND. BUT TO THE HATERS… LET IT BE KNOWN THAT THE SEED HAS BEEN PLANTED. YOU WILL RESIST, BUT IT WILL GROW ON YOU… YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.” “We caught a lot of flack for it back then, and still do now from the hardcore off-road community,” he describes. “Reality is, like many of our customers’ Jeeps, even if you love offroading and it’s your number one hobby, most people are lucky if they can touch the dirt 8 days out of the year. The other 357, we are all sacrificing fuel mileage, a smooth ride and good handling just because [the Jeep] looks cool! It isn’t ‘posing,’ it is being realistic, and if you love the way it looks, the majority of the time it is worth some sacrifices in performance.” Besides the unique look that the wheels provide the JK, you’d be blind not to notice the obscene amount of lighting the build has.
Boasting three Rigid Industries 50” LED light bars on the roof of the JK, Fab Fours’ prototype roof rack is actually capable of having two more 50” light bars on the back of the vehicle. It also rocks four sets of Rigid Industries Dually lights (which totals eight) that place quite the strain on the Jeep’s battery, and that’s without its “highperformance sound system thumping thanks to friends at ARC Audio,” Higgs says. No Fab Fours build would be complete without their quality body enhancements, with this particular project vehicle dressed up in their Full Metal Jacket Stubby front bumper with guard and modifier, prototype roof rack, rock sliders, and rear bumper with a tire carrier. lift kit provides the height it needs to traverse over rough terrain, along with its Nitto Trail Grapplers. A Warn Zero winch, Bushwacker Flares, MagnaFlow dual cat-back exhaust kit and ARC Audio sound system complete the JK’s bold results. Out of the nine fully built customs they have in their project vehicle arsenal, this one “takes the cake from a pure attention-grabbing perspective,” says Higgs. “It was definitely not the hardest build, but probably the most fun final product so far.” It was officially revealed at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, UT and received tons of attention. “I parked it the whole week right across from a brewery,” he explains. “I caught lip from every person in town, each one registering to me as a

small victory, for if I had parked a $140K Ultra4 out there, few would have noticed and none would have connected to Fab Fours. Our friends at Nitto started the rumor that it was Shaq’s JK, and he was in Moab, stirring up the activity on Facebook instantly!” Thanks to this particular build, Higgs is actually working on a deal to start producing Fab Fours-themed Jeeps for sale with all the trimmings – allowing non-builders the chance to have a fully built ride without the work. And now the Fab Fours JK will be traveling the country, hitting consumer shows and making camera phones come out in full effect!

n June 1st we teamed up with Monster Energy, Nitto Tire and 97.9 The Beat to bring a beast of a show to Dallas, TX! Nothing but eye-candy flooded the Dallas Convention Center, comprised of old school Lowriders, lust worthy luxury rides, exotics, muscle cars, big trucks and everything in between. Between the cars, booths and blazing hot concert stage, show-goers left with their automotive fill that would have to satisfy them until next year’s stop. Monster Energy Girls, Alexia Cortez and Runa Lucienne were a huge hit as guests lined up all day to meet the famous beauties and were also treated to some samples of the DUB Editions Ballers Blend and Mad Dog Energy + Punch. The TIS/Dropstars Showcase provided lots of inspiration with some of the hottest wheel styles on display.
TS Designs did the trek from the City of Angels to show off their 2014 widebody Corvette that was the talk of the show and instantly became a camera favorite. Besides the eye-catching red Corvette, everybody couldn’t stop talking about the new DUB Developed by Meguiar’s products that were featured at the show. Everyone got to see the hottest new line of car care products in action and the feedback was great! And because everything is bigger in Texas, the Dallas show had some of the hottest lifted trucks and Jeeps we’ve seen. Complete Customs and Extreme Offroad and Performance brought out their A-games with a fleet of custom lifted whips. Branded Customs represented by taking home the “Best Booth” award, while Rucci Forged showcased their latest wheel styles. MoonShadow and Big Boys Toys also repped custom Texas whips to the fullest! While many gawked at the various rides on display, the 97.9 The Beat concert stage was where all the action happened, with Texas-sized performances from many of hip-hop’s finest like Propain, Tinashe, Bando Jonez, Mystikal, Mike Jones, K-Camp, Rich Homie Quan, Z-Ro, K Michelle, Slim Thug, T-Pain and Lil Boosie. We couldn’t have asked for a better show and owe it all to the good people of Texas, vendors, car clubs and exhibitors who came out to support! But none of it would have even been possible without our sponsors: Monster Energy, Nitto, Harley-Davidson, TIS, Dropstars, DUB Garage, MOTIV and Gear. See ya’ll next year!
