t’s our 10th issue! Now we know it’s not a huge milestone (DUB for example will be putting out it’s 100th next month) but we like to celebrate the small accomplishments. We put out the first issue as a test to see if the custom truck scene was interested - and it certainly was. We’re confident we’ll be celebrating 100 many years down the line, and we hope you’ll tag along for the ride. Speaking of rides, we’ve got some gems this go around. Take for example the Custom Motor Concepts JK8 that goes to show you can have the best of both worlds – the look of a truck with the capabilities of a Jeep – plus some added extras thanks to their precision formed and fitted parts! When you work for MHT Wheels, you have to get used to being surrounded with the sickest rides on the planet, which inspired Jason Williams

to create his own, using a Jeep as the base vehicle for his “LKN4DRT” JK. As the owner of Car X Depot dealerships in Miami, Florida, Andres Lafont needed a sexy vehicle to help promote his business and break necks doing so. He turned to Keg Media for help in turning his regular JK into a sexy red stunner! Skyjacker Suspensions is renowned in the industry for their quality suspensions and are no stranger to demo vehicle builds to showcase their new LeDuc Series Coilover Suspension. Their latest vehicle not only demonstrates their new product offering, but also shows off the company’s patriotic pride! In honor of those suffering from breast cancer, Angela Burgess decided to create a one-of-a-kind tribute truck that’s used to bring awareness to more people at every show the pretty in pink Ford is displayed at.

Classics never go out of style and we have two perfect examples of that. First, take a look at Greg Yount’s 1978 Dodge W150 sidestep truck which is a perfect example of brawns and beauty. It has undergone several transformations and is something he’ll never part with since it belonged to his late mother and now is a way for her memory to live on. Next, check out Chris Gavlik’s 1997 Ford F-350 which despite being older than most show trucks, can still hang with its modern day counterparts. Robbie Bryant of Keg Media couldn’t wait for the 2017 Ford Raptor to come out and decided to build his own take of it, calling it the “Rapture” and adding his own touches to make it a worthy competitor to the upcoming new model. hen we got the call from Toyota that they were partnering with popular Mexican singer Julión Álvarez on his first U.S. Tour and they wanted to customize a 2016 Toyota Tundra for him, we were more than up to the challenge – despite only having 48 hours to get it all ready! We turned to one of our long time build partners, Ramses Sanchez, of Hot Spot Fab as we knew he would be able to perform the work within the limited time. “Generally, I ask for a full business day just to install the lift,” he describes. “Once I received the truck, the parts started to slowly trickle in. The final day also had to fit in the presentation at DUB and filming with Myles Kovacs.” With basic instructions on what Álvarez wanted on his truck, it was up to Sanchez to come up with the best modifications that would complement the design of the Tundra, mentioning that the winch wasn’t part of the original build specs. “But it was a perfect fit for the front bumper,” he says. “I also measured the front bumper and decided to install an LED bar just to add more lighting to the front end and catch the attention of fans when on display” GEAR: TOYOTA TUNDRA

Sanchez worked tirelessly for 48 hours to make sure he didn’t miss an important deadline. He finished up in the DUB Garage on filming day with a lifted and totally customized Tundra, while still wearing the same clothes from 2 days prior. It was all worth it because Álvarez was beyond excited when he first saw his new Tundra before his concert in Houston, TX. “You could just feel the energy from a happy truck owner when it’s authentic,” he describes. “I can tell you from more than 18 years of truck building experience that the truck surpassed his expectations. Everything he asked for was delivered with some extra DUB flavor poured on top. The trademark smile of his was from ear to ear when the blindfold was removed.” “Our partnership with DUB developed into a win-win solution to our goal of customizing the Toyota Tundra to perfectly complement Julion’s style,” commented Tyler McBride, Toyota’s engagement marketing manager. “Their work on the Tundra creates a dynamic experience for our

ike Park has worked on numerous builds for DUB in the past, as well as having built customized rides for many former Anaheim Angels baseball players as well as Pamela Anderson. “Having built cars for so many customers, I was tired building for everybody else and needed something to put together for myself,” he confesses. The veteran builder has been working his magic for the past 30 years, specializing in all things electronic and has been the audio mastermind behind hundreds of builds, so when it came time to finally put his own ride together, he knew exactly what it needed to really go boom! “It’s been years since I had my own custom ride with the last being a Hummer H2. All my builds are known for having major bass,” he describes. “It’s what has labeled me as the ‘bass crazy guy.’” 30

He used RE Audio products, describing how they’re known in the industry for having loud systems, choosing three 12” subwoofers, three 1,500W SA 1500.1 amps, four 6.5” RE component speakers that are all powered by four Optima batteries. “I have so many electronics in the truck that I needed all those batteries to make sure it all lasts,” he says about why he needed four batteries. And the result delivers! Just a few weeks back, Park says he was pushing the audio to the limits at Sound Expo (the shop he oversees) and it was so loud that it blew out the Silverado’s back window!

But another reason why the bass was so explosive was the fact that he placed it all in a bandpass enclosure that allowed him to point the bass to where he wanted it to go. “Usually, the enclosure box is in the bed, but what I did was cut through a tunnel straight from the bed into the cab so that all the bass went inside the vehicle and didn’t just stay in the bed. That’s why it blew the glass out because it was all in the cab.” As for the Chevy’s exterior mods, he got some help from DUB Magazine’s own John Ramos so that it received the best parts possible. Doing all the work himself along with the crew at DUB Garage (except for the lift), Park’s top highlights are the big Dropstars wheels, the powder coated front and rear Fab Fours bumpers, Vision X LED lighting, a custom Royalty Core front grille and the SnugTop bed cap. “People love the truck,” he says. “The white really makes it look bigger and clean at the same time. I wanted something that could be a daily driver so I didn’t want to over do it with the mods.” Now the truck is a weekend warrior and goes on display for Sound Expo in Bellflower, CA. 32

reg Yount has been a truck guy from day one. With a dad who was heavy into hot rod drag racing, it was only natural for him to grow up with that same passion. Now, he’s a self-proclaimed “hot rod truck guy” and paints and builds them for a living. For his own truck, Yount built up his 1978 Dodge W150 stepside truck with the help of his dad, Bennett Leffler and the crew at Performance Authority, Ricky Vecqueray of 369 Custom Fabrication and his sponsors. “This truck has been through its share of mud bogging back in the 90’s as well as drag races,” he admits. “It was done in memory of my mother Bonnie Yount, who originally owned this truck since it was new, and passed from cancer in ’09. I actually learned to drive in this truck, so it was my first vehicle.” When he turned 18, Yount and his dad started to fix it up and pulled the original 360 small block out and put the 440 big block in its place as well as started working on lifting it and making the big 4x4 that he wanted back in the day. “I had it lifted up and sitting on 39.5” Swampers back in the ’90’s and began showing it at mini truck shows and car shows as well as mud bogging it then. The truck was torn down in 1994 to do a frame-off restoration to make it look better for the shows I was attending.” But when life started to get busy, the truck was left on the back burner and now 21 years later, the truck was completed to where it is today. “We know my mom is smiling and very happy with the way her truck sits today.”

The old Dodge is an attention getter from top to bottom. A Sikkens 3-stage pearl yellow paint is what initially catches the eyes, while its Shocker Yellow powder coated custom suspension by Performance Authority and 369 Fabrication with Pure Performance 2.65 Prodigy reservoir shocks showcases the details and level of customization in the build. A massive set of 40X15.5R22 Nitto Mud Grapplers which are wrapped around chrome 22x14 Hostile Gauntlets match perfectly with the entire look of the truck. Inside, the 2000 Dodge quadcab seats were redone by Roadwire Leather, with the trim and headliner taken from a 1993 Dodge.

To power all this, Yount went with a Cummins over the 440 BB that has been in there for more than a couple of decades, and wanted to do a mix of old and new. Boosting its power is a BD Performance Super B turbo, stainless exhaust manifold, and intake ram. Since its inception, the truck that’s been nicknamed “Ol Yeller” has attended numerous shows, where it’s won first place trophies in its class, in addition to being a social media sensation. “I could not be happier with the result of the build,” Yount reveals. “It was built for show and go with the intention of it being my weekend cruiser. It will be driven and is currently being driven. She’s not a trailer queen. I have to call out Ryan Few of Octane Industries for helping me get all the mods.” And he’s even tested Ol Yeller out on the sand dunes, where it performed like a true beast.

ngela Burgess is a country girl at heart, growing up with mud riding, off-road excursions and trucks. She’s built two Jeeps for the mud and wanted to add a truck to her collection of mud toys just for fun, but soon changed her mind so that she could create something that was not only memorable, but also did some good in the world. Nicknamed “Sugar High,” the pretty in pink Ford F-150 FX4 is built to bring awareness to breast cancer, a subject close to Burgess’ heart. “I have friends and family that are either fighting, have survived or lost their lives to cancer,” Burgess details. “So many people lose their loved ones to cancer every year, so in memory of these lost loved ones I built the truck. I’m inspired every time I get to meet breast cancer survivors and see how much they enjoy the truck and what it’s built for.”

When she first bought the truck, she had every intention to use it as a daily driver, but after thinking about it for a few months, she knew it was destined for a higher purpose. Although she doesn’t consider it a show queen, she’s definitely built a dream-worthy custom even though she didn’t have any idea of how to get things started. “I didn’t have a design and was just flying by on what I had in my head,” she relays. “I went to my painter Bo Pittman and told him that I wanted sugar skulls and a BCA ribbon, but wasn’t sure how to lay it out. He told me he’d handle it and the theme came together after the paint, thus the name ‘Sugar High,’ but I just call her Sugar.” Burgess knew she wanted the best products for her Sugar, and chose them based on her own research, word of mouth and her experience with past brands. The obvious highlight for Burgess is the pink paint, but she also loves her Forgiato wheels and the headlights which she customized herself.

She absolutely loves the final product, but does admit that the overall theme of the truck doesn’t appeal to all. “The majority of the public loves it, but there are those select few that don’t care for it, but that’s why everyone’s builds are different. Some don’t care for the color, but they respect the quality, effort and time spent on the truck.” Burgess takes Sugar to various cancer awareness and support events to help raise money for cancer foundations, attending shows across the southeast to help create awareness. Although the duration of the build took more than two years to complete, Burgess says that it’s not even completely done, always changing and doing different things to enhance its overall appearance. Eventually, Burgess plans on selling it before embarking on her next over-the-top build.

he name Keg Media has clout in the custom off-road scene, rendering some of the toughest rigs around. Each year they’re constantly whipping out insane builds and owner Robbie Bryant is at the helm of it all. But it’s not just all work for Bryant, who indulges in a few of his own wow factor builds like his 2015 SEMA Ford Raptor-inspired build that’s his own interpretation of what the upcoming all-new Raptor should look like (despite not being available until 2017). “Since Ford hasn’t released the new Raptor yet, we wanted to build our version of it, but oversized,” he confesses. “This is why we called it ‘Rapture.’” To bring his vision to life, he ordered the newly designed F-150 and didn’t waste any time designing his ideal Raptor that would later come to life with the help of the Five-R Trucks crew. The goal was to create a daily driver that would also be show worthy in under three months to make the 2015 SEMA Show deadline. With the SEMA crunch in full effect, the guys knew it would take countless man-hours to complete.

Bryant knew he wanted it to be have a charcoal and bronze theme and admits to having the build design swimming around in his head ever since he first saw photos of the new body style F-150. No expense was spared to get the build perfect and Bryant made sure he teamed up with the right people to get the look just right. For Bryant, it was all about getting the F-150 to look as aggressive as possible, which is what the Addictive Desert Designs bumpers, chase rack and rock slider steps provide (complete with Rigid Industries’ Midnight Series light bars in the bumpers and rack). Once the exterior was ready, the guys turned their attention to the suspension, adding a custom 12” Bulletproof lift, Icon coilovers and reservoir shocks and Atlas rear leaf springs before adding a custom powder coat treatment from Prismatic Powders. Towering high above the ground allowed it to fit 40” Toyo Open Country MTs with 24x14 American Force Fuse wheels. Since Bryant is used to building custom rides of a certain caliber, the Rapture was no different, making sure that even the smallest details complemented the overall theme. The custom Rapture grille from Gravel Empire and all the billet badges make it a one-off truck, while the brushed bronze and matte Grigio Avery Dennison Wrap (installed by Impacted Wraps and Graphics) makes the Rapture one of his best creations to date. “The graphics are another awesome thing about this build,” he says. “It’s the first time that a brushed vinyl has had a printed design over the top of it. If you look closely at the graphics you will see a destroyed city as the actual Rapture is taking place and people rising to the heavens.” Leaving no stone unturned, Bryant made sure that the inside looked just as good as the outside and worked with Alea Leather to design a bespoke interior that includes custom laseretched leather and leather belts that perfectly matches everything.

While this F-150 looked great inside and out, it needed to perform like a true Raptor, and its EcoBoost engine was rebuilt by Walsh Motorsports and loaded with upgrades from AFE Power, Precision Turbos and SCT Performance – all boosting the power to 515 hp. Usually, when crunched for SEMA, you’re bound to run into a few snags, but Bryant was lucky that no huge challenges came up. “Working with Five R Trucks is always a plus when you want to do a build with no issues,” he details. “Also Reagan at Impacted Wraps and Graphics did a killer job on the wrap and graphics and the crew at Lawson’s Paint and Body did a great job on the paintwork and fiberglass fenders/bedsides. Elite Performance and Tuning handled the custom tune via the SCT Performance tuning software.” 90

Just ask Chris Gavlik, who waited years to make his dream truck become a reality. Fortunately, the wait allowed him to figure out exactly what he wanted to do to his creation. “I’ve always had heavily modified vehicles – mud trucks and race cars – but building something clean enough to take to shows all around Texas was something on a whole other level,” the Swift Car Club Houston chapter member describes.

Originally, the 1997 Ford F-350 was bought to tow his dirt track racer and its trailer, but after seeing another older body style truck lifted, he couldn’t resist the urge to customize his. He started with a 6” Skyjacker spring suspension lift and then came the larger 22x14 Fuel Hostage wheels that were powder coated white and wrapped in 37X13.50R22 Nitto Mud Grappler tires. But before he added any more details, he knew he had to try out the truck’s capabilities on the dirt and took it for some off-road fun, where it did “surprisingly well for such a big heavy truck,” he mentions.

Fully intent to build a show-worthy rig, Gavlik wanted to show that an old body style (OBS) truck can hold its own alongside newer body styles at shows and events. “There aren’t any OBS builds out there that are anywhere near as clean as mine,” he admits. “Maybe it’s because it’s something no one has done before. You just don’t see any show-quality OBS builds these days. I’m a Master Certified mechanic, so I knew that a 1997 crew cab long bed 4x4 Ford would be reliable for years to come. They just don’t make these trucks like they used to.”

Since he wanted to compete with newer body trucks, he switched out the old school ranch bumpers for some new armor with a Bodyguard Bumpers A2L low profile front bumper and their A2 series rear bumper. “It also had a lot of black trim pieces, which I decided to powder coat white,” he says. “Originally, the truck had more of an aggressive look, but I decided to ditch that and go for the cleanest look possible. Overall, the look of the truck has gone through many different stages to get to where it’s at right now.”

When Gavlik purchased the Ford, it was stock and in mint condition, including its paint, which he kept original. “I can’t see repainting the truck when the 20-year-old paint looks better than the 2017 models coming out,” he explains. “When I tell people at shows that it’s factory paint, they can’t believe it until they crawl underneath and look under the truck or look in the door jambs because it looks that good.” 104

“AT SHOWS, PEOPLE CAN’T BELIEVE ALL THE STUFF THAT HAS BEEN DONE TO THE TRUCK. IT HAS WON AWARDS AT EVERY BIG SHOW I’VE TAKEN IT TO.” Gavlik made sure to do a lot of research to choose the right pieces so that everything would fit “White Lighting” - a name given to the Ford from a friend - and even got some help from other truck enthusiasts at various shows and meets he attended. He also tried to keep the black and white theme throughout the build, adding a few hints of silver/chrome for accents. “Sometimes simple is better,” he adds. After two years, Gavlik’s OBS Ford was finally complete, although he admits that it’ll probably never be truly finished since there’s always something new and exciting that comes out every year. But the mods it has now has made the truck a huge hit. “I can’t even go to a 106

gas station without people stopping to ask me about the truck or take pictures,” he describes. “At shows, people can’t believe all the stuff that has been done to the truck. It has won awards at every big show I’ve taken it to.” As Gavlik’s first real show build, he’s extremely happy with the result and the fact that it’s different from what’s out there right now. He’ll continue displaying the OBS Ford in shows and plans on keeping the truck until the day he dies, mentioning that he knows it will undergo plenty more changes throughout its life. “This is my dream truck that I always wanted and I can’t let it go.”

any custom truck and SUV enthusiasts focus their attention on how fast they can make their rides go. However, it’s not how fast you can go that counts, but how fast you can stop. Full-size trucks and SUVs come from the factory with “adequate” brakes. But, add oversized wheels and tires, lift kits, and other heavy mods, and you’re bringing a lot of weight to a halt. You need brakes that you can count on to do the job. That’s why Wilwood Disc Brakes has specialized in the design and manufacture of high-performance bolt-on brake kits for street, racing and off-road applications since the company’s inception in 1977 by Bill Wood.

Wilwood Tactical Xtreme TX6 big-brake kits (for 2011 and newer GM HD 2500 Series trucks and SUVs) include everything needed to make the installation quick and simple. They feature billet aluminum brake calipers, which generates unmatched clamping efficiency through six thickwalled stainless steel pistons, matched to advanced formula high-friction compound brake pads for quick response and extended fade resistance. The Wilwood kits are available with your choice of standard 15-inch directional-vane rotors or high performance 15-inch cross-drilled, slotted, zinc-washed SRP rotors. Each rotor is mated to high-strength, forged aluminum hats that are rib-reinforced to carry extreme loads and are black anodized to prevent oxidation.

Rear brake kits also come with oversized rotors matched to the OE master cylinder output, ABS function, and individual vehicle-bias requirements. We followed Ryan Doherty, chief installer at Bulletproof Suspensions; as he installed the brakes on a 2015 Chevrolet HD 2500 Series pickup that was totally customized with a Bulletproof Suspensions lift kit, body mods and big wheels and tires. NOTE: A lift or a floor jack and jack stands are required. Be sure to read all of the instructions included with the kit before attempting the installation.

02. The truck was put on a lift and raised and heavy-duty jack stands were placed under the front and for added stability. A floor jack can be used if a lift isn’t available.

03. The factory front brakes are adequate for safely stopping a stock vehicle, but not if big tires and wheels and other heavy mods are added.

04. Ryan began by removing the brake line and stock caliper and rotor.

05. The new rotors and hats were then assembled using supplied bolts and washers and torqued to 25 ft-lbs.

05. The new front rotor assembly was then installed and a lug nut was loosely attached to keep it in place.

06. The caliper-mounting bracket was installed next using saved OE bolts and temporarily tightened.

07. Next, the new Wilwood caliper was installed on the mounting bracket with lock nuts and temporarily tightened.

08. After the pad retaining pins were carefully removed from the caliper and the brake pads inserted into the caliper, the pins were reinstalled, securing the brake pads. Then, with the pad height set the caliper was torqued to 65 ft-lbs.

09. The new steel braided brake line was then installed in the back of the caliper and everything was checked and fully tightened.

10. The new front Wilwood six-piston caliper and slotted rotor looks clean and will deliver considerably improved braking.

11. Next, Ryan removed the stock rear brake caliper and rotor and attached the new caliper-mounting bracket.

12. Using the same procedure as the front, the new rear rotor and caliper was loosely attached, the new pads were placed in the caliper, the retaining pins were installed and everything was properly tightened and torqued.

13. The new Wilwood rear brakes complement the fronts perfectly and provide added braking power.

kyjacker’s Jeep Wrangler JKU is more than just a demo vehicle to show off their suspension products; it reminds people of how great America is and the many freedoms we’re blessed with, including the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, mentions Lee McGuire, Director of Marketing for the company. “It is also near and dear to owner and VP Lonnie McCurry Jr.’s heart, so it matched well for the theme,” she adds. As a regular SEMA exhibitor, the patriotic JK had to not only look good, but also perform well since it was going to be tested at the company’s annual visit to the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, UT.

Carefully choosing products that not only fit the theme, but can also hold up on any terrain, the crew at Skyjacker went to work to find parts that would complement both their goals. “We have developed a number of product partners that we like to work with because we have used their products and know the quality,” she explains. “We chose the parts that fit the build, but we do stick with some quality build partners because we have to use the products in the field and we always want to be using the best of the best.”

Although known for numerous other builds (such as “Project Controlled Burn” and “Backwoods Sportsman” for “Duck Dynasty’s” Willie Robertson), this one is actually one their most “decked out extreme Jeeps” because of the Hemi swap and axles, Lee mentions. Working on and off it for two months prior to the 2015 SEMA Show (in addition to their other special SEMA projects), the Jeep is outfitted with about $100k in modifications and garnered lots of praise from the public. “It’s patriotic and it transcends a lot of demographics and people - young and old - have appreciated the build,” she adds. The most recent event it saw was the 4Wheel & Off-Road’s Ultimate Adventure, which is a weeklong event where vehicles are really put to the test on and off the trail. “It came back with some fresh chips on the wheels as battle scars, but drove out of there which was a feat in itself!” 144

ason Williams has a deep history in the automotive industry having worked for MHT Wheels for the past 11 years and owning an import shop earlier in his automotive career. His Oklahoma City-based Xtreme Motorsports was where he built his show-stopping 1992 Honda Prelude which was showcased at the 1995 SEMA Show. Fast forward to 2015 with Williams having transformed his 2015 Jeep Sahara Unlimited into another highly custom SEMA Show vehicle. â&#x20AC;&#x153;The combinations you can create with a JK are absolutely endless, making it the perfect vehicle to start with. You could remove the doors and the top that gives a true sense of adventure and freedom,â&#x20AC;? he explains about the platform he has long admired for its versatility and iconic status in the customization scene.

Adventure and freedom were two things that inspired the build, another major factor was the fact that he needed something to connect him with the industry again after being part of it for so long. “Being in the automotive industry for so long sometimes you do not get to enjoy what originally got you here,” he confesses. “This build was to challenge myself and work with my industry partners to create a unique vehicle that focused on highlighting all of the incredible products in the aftermarket world.” Although, it’s unofficially nicknamed “LKN4DRT” on his license plate, one look at the JK and you know it won’t see any action on the trails anytime soon, which is the exact reaction Williams was going for. “When everyone reads it, and sees how clean this all white monotone JK looks they chuckle and say, ‘Yeah right, this thing will never see dirt.’” And that’s okay for Williams, who didn’t want a mud or dirt beast, but something that could be used for shows and everyday driving. Thanks to the ability to have a vision in mind on what a completed project vehicle should look like, starting the build was easy. “Being in the wheel business, I believe the wheels set the stage for the entire build,” he says. “With that being said I wanted to build something that highlighted our new Fuel Forged Series wheels and the unlimited color choices that go along with them.”

Aside from the new Fuel Forged wheels, another highlight is the Fabtech 5” Crawler kit that was powder coated copper to match the wheels. “This lift requires you to smooth the factory frame out and start from scratch. For this I recruited Jason Wells from J&T Truck Accessories, Jason became an integral part of completing this build. Cody Stcyr (also from J & T Truck accessories) was also key in making sure the build stayed on track and on budget, and made sure all the little parts that you never think of were available.”

In total, a build of this caliber would cost about $100K to replicate given the extensive mods used. But thankfully, Williams had the support of the industry and after it was unveiled at last year’s SEMA Show, it’s been on the road as a demo vehicle to promote all the companies involved. But on occasion, he does take it out for a ride with his two kids and wife enjoying all the attention it gets everywhere it goes. “The Jeep came out exactly like I had first envisioned and I couldn’t be happier with the final product.” 168

or Andres Lafont, nothing is sexier than a Jeep Wrangler. Riding around with the top off in his hometown of Miami, FL is what life is all about. But its stock form wasn’t cutting it for him and wanted to add to its sexiness and enlisted Keg Media for help. Besides garnering attention for himself, Lafont also wanted the Wrangler to show off his luxury dealership Car X Depot’s values and capabilities, with the shop’s red and black colors carried over in the build. “Honestly I could say it came out perfect,” he admits. “The design and the final product were

extremely accurate. We were very lucky because we were working with KEG Media; those guys know what they are doing.” Lafont knew that the Jeep not only needed to look good, but also be able to perform well off-road so no expense was spared in choosing the right products. “We went with the best brands on the market for every single product we put into it.” The sexy red JK was built around the tough 4” Teraflex long arm lift, while a set of 17x9 ATX Chamber Pro 2 Beadlock wheels were paired with 37X12.50R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers are Lafont’s

favorite additions. The exterior includes Fab Fours rock armor, Full Metal Jacket front bumper (another favorite for Lafont), Rigid Industries lighting, an AEV Snorkel and JCR Offroad fenders. Now, it’s doing the rounds at his dealerships, getting the type of attention it deserves. “Everyone loves it,” he describes. “All the feedback we get is incredible. I could say almost every person on the street turns his or her head to see it!”

n the customization game, it’s all about making your ride stand out from the rest, choosing the right parts to make that happen or just fabricating your own. Fab Fours is well known for creating their own mods that are anything but ordinary. Take for example THE LEGEND and THE LEGEND 2.WOAH – two out-ofthe-box Jeep builds that feature insane additions to create a truly unique vehicles. They also have KRYPTON which is a 2015 Ford Super Duty F-350 that rides on massive 40” tires with no lift! But before bringing these outrageous mods to the market, they have to test them out on their own project vehicles and Fab Fours’ VP of Sales and Marketing Matt McShane’s Jeep was one of them. The company is all about the off-road lifestyle, given owner and CEO Greg Higgs worked hard to turn his rock crawling hobby into a career. So when it came time to purchase a new vehicle, it only made sense to go with something that can handle any trails and there are few, if any, other vehicles that are more than capable of that than a Jeep (which they purchased from their friends at Adam’s Jeep). Add in the fact that Fab Fours has a very aggressive new product initiative for the JK and it made perfect sense to make his ride a test rig.

“I wanted a show queen that I could drive everyday,” McShane describes, which is why he called it “Mall Assault.” Originally, I didn’t have much of a purpose for this build other than having a mildly modified JK to show off some 199

of our best selling Jeep products,” he says. “But with the great exposure from THE LEGEND builds coupled with a handful of hot new products, the build morphed into what you see today. It has now become the face of our newest Jeep JK products including the Grumper (our grille/ bumper combination), The ViCowl (our visor/cowl combination) and brand new fender system.”

With no initial design in mind, the only thing McShane knew was that he wanted to utilize the company’s black and red colors, as well as use a silver metallic as the base color of choice. Using the best products in the industry, McShane dressed the entire exterior in Fab Fours parts and went with a modest Rubicon Express 5.5” Extreme Duty 4-link long arm lift kit with a front and rear FOX coilover upgrade kit with Air Bumps stops. This allowed him to fit 24x12 American Force Vector FP5 wheels wrapped in 38X13.50R24LT Nitto Trail Grapplers. Power was added via a BD Diesel Performance Throttle Sensitivity Booster and Magnaflow Cat-Back Rock Crawler Series exhaust system. The interior sports a Bedrug BedTred and a custom Katzkins leather black interior surrounded with red carbon fiber inserts and red stitching. 200

“I absolutely love the way the build looks and performs right now,” he mentions. “I’m sure it will go through a few more changes, but I couldn’t be happier. Actually, I wouldn’t mind putting in a supercharger and exotic sound system… but all in due time.” Aside from being his daily driver, the Jeep will continue to be the face of the Fab Fours Jeep JK new product line and will be at as many shows as it can before the next Jeep takes over as new products are created. K8s are increasingly becoming popular builds in the off-road customization scene. Not only do they provide the ruggedness of a Jeep, but they also offer the look and convenience of a truck, combing for a two-forone custom! When Rigid Industries challenged Tim Mills of Custom Motor Concepts for a unique build to have in their booth at SEMA 2015, he knew it had to be a JK8 from the start. “We had to come up with something that would stand out amongst all of the different show vehicles that would be present at SEMA,” he describes. “My idea was to simply build a vehicle that would be more comfortable out in the elements than it was in a show setting. This vehicle was built to be used and abused.” Thus PRIM8TE JK8 was born. For the design of the build, he pulled features and details from previous creations (mainly trucks and Land Cruisers) and combined them for an insane JK8. The custom bed rack was actually designed back in 2009 for a truck he was building and it’s

something he says hasn’t been done before in the Jeep world. To create precision formed and fitted parts for the Jeep, Mills and his crew used OEM CAD computer software to get everything just right. Once the design work was completed, it was up to CMC’s master fabricator, Travis Ball, to turn the vision into reality. Mills is not a fan of “trailer queens,” so he spec’d out the Jeep as if he were building it as his personal ride, choosing parts that not only looked good, but with function in mind. “It’s a vehicle that you could drive cross-country, beat on it off-road, live out of it for a week and then drive it back home,” he details. More than pleased with the result, he was able to use and abuse it on terrain ranging from the sandy deserts of Nevada to the red slickrocks of Moab, Utah and even the Rocky Mountains of Colorado – performing “exceptionally well” at all locations. When it’s not being used out on the trails, the JK8 is used for promotional efforts at car shows and events and running everyday errands.
