f SEMA 2016 was the barometer to what 2017 will hold for the off-road accessories market, then we’re in for a quite a year! This particular segment of the aftermarket accessories industry has been constantly growing each year - it’s staggering. As the number of new companies increases, so does the amount of parts available, giving customizers added creative fuel. These pages are a direct reflection of that, and Issue 11 is jam-packed with everything you need to create a badass weekend warrior or neckbreaking work horse. Conversions are an easy way to update an older vehicle and that’s exactly what Jesus Aguiñiga did to his 2010 Toyota Tundra, which now features a 2014 version for a more aggressive

look. And since he’s always trying to outdo his last build, he’s constantly transforming his Tundra for the better. Doetsch Off-Road is a reputable name in the off-road customizing scene and their latest creation is for BOLT Lock with their “Locked and Loaded” Jeep Wrangler JK that shows off an array of the latest and greatest from the manufacturer. Extreme Off-Road’s Austin O’Krinsky wanted something intricately detailed when it came time to spruce up his personal Chevy 2500HD. His “Monkey Business” project, which also has its own complementary Jeep Wrangler JK, was the stunning result of careful planning and construction. Your very first build is always the most challenging, but it’s also the most exhilarating,

as was “Rugged White” for Octavio “Tavo” Magana, who got his customizing cherry popped with the Wrangler platform. You might have never heard of mud bogging, but you’ll never forget the show stoppin’ F-250 Super Duty from Plan B Fab! This truck is meant to get down and dirty even though it boasts some elaborate mods. UTVs are quickly becoming the new “it” vehicle for customizers and Cash Bred Off-Road worked hard on building not one, but two, Polaris UTVs to flex their muscles on the weekend toys. So there you have it… your first LFTD&LVLD issue of 2017 to devour and start your year off right!

With more than 15 years of experience under his belt, some of his previous Jeep builds such as the “Trail Reaper,” “Doomsday,” and “JeepZilla” have been featured in this magazine. Doetsch knows exactly what it takes to build something that’s unique, which is what BOLT Lock intended for their brand new 2016 Jeep Wrangler JK. Doetsch Off-Road had been using BOLT Lock products in their builds, as well as carrying their product in its retail store, for years, so it was only natural that the two companies pair up for a project Jeep, which finally came to fruition for the 2016 SEMA Show. 48

Aptly titled “Locked and Loaded,” the Jeep Wrangler boasts all of BOLT Lock’s latest and greatest when it comes to their offerings. “The BOLT [Lock] products used the vehicle’s factory ignition key, allowing you to utilize various style locks without needing to carry multiple keys,” Doetsch explains. “We decided to create an ‘Overland Rock Crawler’ Jeep that could functionally use the majority of BOLT Lock’s products as they were meant to be used versus just slapping together a bunch of mismatched parts and accessories.” The Rubicon model was specifically chosen for its heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axle, electronic front and rear locking differentials and its 4:1 transfer case. Since the shop is also a retail store, they have their hands on some of the best products around. But like an artist chooses the right colors for their masterpiece, Doetsch makes sure to choose products that complement the build and its overall themes and goals. “We carefully planned out each functional area of the build

and then chose products that go with the theme and highlight the features and benefits of that part/accessory,” he says. Being the first to rock a product is ideal for any build and Doetsch was proud to use all-new wheels on Locked and Loaded. “We were happy to be one of only a handful of shops that were selected by KMC Wheels to feature the new Rockstar 3 (RS3) design,” he says, adding that they ultimately used 20x12 RS3 wheels in a matte black with red split spoke inserts. The shop also worked with KC HiLITES to feature their new Gravity Pro LED lightbar, which consists of individual 6” Gravity Pro LEDs arranged in place of the traditional 50” LED lightbar. “This product allowed us to ensure there was plenty of forward facing light, without looking like the masses that use the standard linear lightbar,” he details. And unlike past Jeep builds, Locked and Loaded uses a complete roof rack system, which is something that he’s never used before. “Since Locked and Loaded features

a full Kargo Master Congo Pro cage system, we were able to design the Jeep around carrying product on the roof rack, giving us new ways to showcase multiple items.” As for BOLT Lock products, the Jeep features their 6’ Cable Lock that uses the OEM Ignition key, J-Mount Hi-Lift Jack Bracket for both the driver’s and passenger side, as well as a 5/8” Hitch Lock. Doetsch estimates that about $90K went into the build, including the cost of the Jeep. “Doetsch Off-Road was thrilled to be selected by BOLT Lock, to build their booth vehicle, and we are extremely excited about the finished build. The Jeep utilizes so many great products from various brands, making it easy to fall in love with it.” Now, it’ll be used for marketing purposes and will make an appearance at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah, where it’ll flex its muscles in style!

our very first build is always the most challenging. Just finally going out and starting it can be the most difficult part of it all, but it’s worth it in the end. Octavio “Tavo” Magana experienced this first hand after waiting a couple of years for the right timing to present itself, and 2016 was finally the year he finally came around to customizing a Jeep. “We got the opportunity to have the support needed behind our build, so I jumped on it and went to the dealer and purchased this 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I knew I was going to rip it apart so I just got the base model and a week later we started on the build.” Tavo felt a Jeep would make for a memorable experience given all the various modifications that could be done to the popular off-road vehicle. “When I think off-road, Jeeps are the first thing that comes to mind. It’s the perfect vehicle to build off of because there are a ton of aftermarket parts out there making choosing the parts the hardest part of the build.” 56

Although he never really gave the build an official name, everyone’s been referring to it as “Rugged White” because of its color and mods, which includes 22” TIS wheels wrapped in Nitto tires, DUB IR Tint, Westin Automotive LED light bars and a slew of Rugged Ridge parts including the 4” lift kit. As his first build, Tavo wasn’t out to make something too extreme and opted for function over form. “We weren’t looking for a mall crawler or show queen, and just wanted to build something that can be functional on rough terrain, and I think we accomplished that,” he mentions.

He and his cousin worked countless hours to get the Jeep ready in time for SEMA 2016, with most of the work being done on his driveway other than the suspension, which was done by A3 Fabrication & Performance in Azusa, CA. But now that he has finished his first build, he’s already looking forward to the next one and hopes to continue his newfound passion for as long as he can. “Since this was our first, now we know what we like and don’t like and it gives us better knowledge for next year.”

ustin O’Krinsky of Extreme Off-Road doesn’t monkey around when it comes to builds. He has a vision and does everything possible to see it out for customers or for personal builds, which is why his shop is a favorite for those looking for anything extreme. When it came time to build something for himself, he wanted the project to showcase the level of his shop’s capabilities, yet still be daily drivable. “I’m always doing themed trucks for my own stuff and decided crazy monkeys best portrays all of us at the shop and the crazy things we do all day, so I called my Chevy 2500HD ‘Monkey Business,’” he explains. “Out of all my personal trucks, this one is my favorite, so I knew it had to be something great.”

As is, the 2500HD is a massive truck and with the installation of the 12” Cognito Suspension system with Atlas leaf springs its imposing presence can’t be denied. Suspension components were powder coated in bright “Psycho Yellow” for a standout look, while a set of 26x16 Specialty Forged SF022-8 wheels paired with 40X15.50R26 Fuel Offroad Mud Gripper M/T tires complete its dominating stance. “I thought the yellow was different and unique. It was a color that had not been used before like the blues, greens and purples you see all day.” The custom “Extreme” grille by LUE Grilles with one-off headlights by plainANsimple by design features a tinge of Psycho Yellow, as well as the Body Guard front bumper and detailed airbrushed graphics that adorn the sides and tailgate. “Every one of my personal trucks, in the airbrushing, have a few personal touches that have something to do with my life, and if you look closely you can pick them out. This one in particular has a few unique auto-related things like tools and stuff.” DUB IR Luxury Tint is a must for the Texas heat.

Having built several custom rides for himself over the years, Austin admits that it’s getting harder to outdo himself with each new build, but he feels he definitely did it with Monkey Business. With about a $100K in aftermarket parts, custom modifications and labor, the Chevy made its debut at the 2016 SEMA Show in the Body Guard booth and is currently used as both a daily driver and marketing vehicle for the shop. However, during the build process Austin didn’t feel as if it was totally complete and decided to create a matching Jeep to demonstrate the shop’s creative capabilities with the JK platform. Teaming up with Hostile Wheels to make it happen, the Jeep flaunts the same black and Psycho Yellow color scheme as Monkey Business. It rides on a 4.5” BDS long arm suspension system with FOX shocks and 20x12” Hostile Sprocket wheels that were matched to a set of 38X15.50R20 Toyo Open Country M/T tires.

To complete the stealth look, DUB IR Luxury Window Film was fitted to the Jeep.

But unlike Monkey Business, the JK doesn’t intentionally wear an elaborate exterior. “We wanted a stealth, armored look for the Jeep,” he describes. “The reason it doesn’t have the same paint as the truck is because I didn’t want to take away any attention from the airbrush graphics on the Chevy.” Instead, it features a Hostile Wheels graphic in the same Psycho Yellow hue and Fab Fours armor, including their game-changing Grumper bumper, fender system and Vicowl - all in matte black. The Jeep and Chevy builds took three months to complete and are both being used to show what Extreme Offroad and Performance is capable of. But Austin makes sure to give the Chevy lots of love, making it his rig of choice for weekends, as it reminds him of his crazy team and the amazing rides they have built in years past.

Remember that exhilarating feeling playing in the mud when you were a kid?

That’s exactly the same feeling some adults get when they go mud bogging – an off-road motorsport that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. For those not familiar with mud bogging, mudding or mud running, it’s when you drive your rig through a pit of mud or a track filled with mud, with winners being determined by how far they can get through the mud or whoever completes the run in the shortest amount of time. And it doesn’t even have to be a competition...

Everyone has their off-roading preference, such as hitting the dunes with their weekend toys, rock crawling, trail running and some like to get down and dirty in the mud like Austin Pickens, who turned to Robert Pigue of Plan B Fab and Jason Dvorak of JFab to build his truck. On a mission to create something that will win shows while still being able run in the mud, Austin chose a Ford F-250 Super Duty to bring his visions of a next-level rig to life.

“The goal of the build was to fabricate a truck that has never been built,” Robert confesses. “Something that sets itself apart from anything ever done and to show people it wasn’t just made to look at. You can spend all the money you want on something, but unless it’s done right, you’ll only be able to show it. This was built to prove you could have a show stopping truck and the baddest mud truck at the same time.

The Super Duty gave Plan B Fab the ability to create a seamless build and was chosen because of the ease parts can be swapped around. Modifications were chosen based on both form and function, which was the requirement to keep it both show and performance ready. “We used a 2002 F-250 7.3L V8 Diesel donor truck and installed an OEM 2015 F-250 Platinum front clip and bed with tailgate,” he details about the conversion they’ve nicknamed “Still Rich” because everyone that sees it thinks Austin spent all his money building it. To provide the power to plow through the mud, Still Rich utilizes a 1995 Dodge Cummins 12-valve twin turbo engine with a Fourth Gear transmission and FTI Performance converter, in addition to a SCS Gearbox 23”CL Drop Quick Change Transfer Case and Overtime CNC Performance driveline brakes with Wilwood calipers. Plan B Fab fabricated a custom sheet

metal hybrid chassis, along with two front custom sheetmetal Meritor Axle Housings by JFab. Aluminum Overtime CNC hubs were placed on the axles to reduce the weight and a PSC Motorsports 4 wheel steering setup. The combination of 18.4x34 Titan Checkmark R2 65”tall tires on custom-built 34x18 3-piece wheels by Plan B Fab were chosen to give it the look required while also providing the traction needed to move through mud. It’s running dual 1.75” swaybar kits and everything on the suspension and chassis is powder coated or polished. Custom built bumpers by JFab and the body itself is dressed in a Pearl White with Blue Candy Pearl paint for an eye-catching effect. Inside, the interior was completely redone by Highline Auto (Tampa, FL) with black suede seats and blue diamond stitched inserts, suede headliner and door panels housing eight 8” PRV Audio midrange speakers and four PRV Audio tweeters. Three 12” Skar Audio subwoofers are mounted behind the seats and the system is powered by five SKAR Audio amplifiers. 112

While the crew produced a flawless build, it wasn’t without it’s share of issues. “From changing parts, axles, the motor being from a different truck, custom one-off parts since nothing was used from the original setup – we faced it all during this build,” Robert confesses. “But we just sat back and took the ride and dealt with the tough problems as they came up.” For Austin, the final product turned out better than he could ever have imagined, with the truck getting attention everywhere it goes. “It was built for a reason, and we think we made a statement,” Robert describes. “There are some people who called it ‘worthless,’ ‘a waste of money,’ ‘trailer queen,’ etc. But a lot more people loved and admired it. Once the truck hit the mud events and shows, everyone talked highly of it and we definitely changed people’s opinions once it was put in the mud!” At the time, this was Robert and his team’s hardest, longest and most impressive build, but they’ve since built a 2016 Ford F-250 Platinum street truck that’s going to be the new king of the shop. eople reinvent themselves all the time, and the same holds true in the automotive world. Custom builds can transform into new iterations each year, allowing builders to test their creativity and skills without having to consistently shell out major paper for a new ride with each and every build. Such was the case for Jesus Aguiñiga and his 2010 Toyota Tundra. As one of his first rigs, Aguiñiga wanted more from the initial transformation and knew it needed more to be the iconic build he envisioned, which was something to show his support for military veterans, past and present, who gave their lives for our freedom. “Having multiple friends that served, I wanted to do something to show my appreciation for their service,” he explains. “I call it my ‘Iconic Tundra’ because I set out to build something that was unique, which I think I did.”

For it’s latest transformation, Aguiñiga chose to update his 2010 front end with the refreshed 2014 version for a more aggressive look, while also making sure it could withstand any of his off-road intentions. “I like to test what I own,” he says. “There’s no reason in building something to keep it at home. I’m using it as a weekend driver to go out with family or friends and have fun with it.” Aside from the update, the most notable highlight of the build is the fact that the entire exterior is covered in Line-X, with a camo print top coat from front to rear thanks to Line-X of North America and Matt Hutcheson Designs. “The positive reactions to it are always great to hear, but there are also those few who aren’t feeling the camouflage look, but in the end, I’m happy with the outcome,” he says. “It’s definitely a head-turner!”

Adding to his iconic theme is the 12” Bulletproof Suspension lift kit combined with American Force Wheels wrapped in Black Bear tires, Fab Fours front and rear bumpers and an RK Sport Fiberglass Hood. Aguiñiga plans on updating the Tundra for as long as he sees fit and believes this is his best build to date. And true to his word, not long after the photoshoot and interview, he did an entire makeover on the Iconic Tundra, completely switching over to a long travel suspension set up and re-skinning the exterior in black Line-X protective coating. “I hope to continue building vehicles for years to come and continue setting the bar for myself. I recently built a Jeep JK and enjoyed that build as well.”

The smart cargo robot/vehicle is only 26” tall and can carry up to 40 lbs. It was created to accompany you on your journeys while assisting you with your stuff so that you can move around more freely. It features a lid that opens to its spacious cargo bin and has a top speed of 22 mph, allowing it to keep up with you if you’re on a skateboard, running or biking. It can either follow you or navigate various pre-programmed environments on its own. It can detect and avoid any obstacles if any features of the real world don’t show up in its existing maps, providing users peace of mind when they let it travel on its own. It has a big brother – Kilo – that’s capable of carrying up to 250 pounds for larger pieces of cargo, too! It’s still in pre-production, but should be available soon if testing goes well. f you’re driving a Truck or SUV built in the last decade chances are it’s equipped with factory-tinted glass on all windows behind the front doors. While this factory tint offers rear passengers some privacy, it does very little to help reduce the heat entering through the glass or does it protect them from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Many owners of vehicles like this often choose to only have the front windows tinted to match the back. Here are two reasons why you should consider installing a nano-ceramic window film like DUB IR on all windows.

HEAT REJECTION While a darkened piece of factory glass may slightly reduce the heat entering the vehicle, it cannot compare to the heat rejection possible utilizing modern window film technology like that found in DUB IR window film. The factory tint is primarily installed for its looks and for privacy. Many car owners like the lighter level of darkness of this factory glass and would not consider installing anything darker. However, these windows can be made to perform much better without making them noticeably darker. In fact, with a film like DUB IR, you can reduce up to 68.5% of the heat. This will make your vehicle interior much cooler and reduce the need to run the air conditioning in many cases. So, not only will your passengers be more comfortable, you may even save a little at the gas pump.

While many of us would not think of spending any significant time in the sun without some form of skin protection, we often ride for hours inside a vehicle with the false impression that we are protected. A study by The Skin Cancer Foundation states that, “millions of Americans receive a large portion of their sun exposure when they don’t even realize it — in their cars.”

eekend warriors are getting their fair share of attention from the customizing world and Cash Bred Off-Road out of Converse, TX is on a mission to showcase their talents to the UTV scene with their highly customized Polaris General. “We developed the build with John ‘Dos’ Orr of Orr Motorsports to show our ability to branch out from trucks and help highlight Orr Motorsports,” mentions Brandon Edwards, owner of Cash Bred Off-Road. “Dos wanted to come out big this year, to draw attention to his new venture Orr Motorsports. He asked us to get things going and we set out to make it happen.” Since the General is one of the newest models from Polaris, the build isn’t as common as the rest of the company’s lineup, which is why it was the perfect base vehicle for the collab build. Right from the start, both shops decided to go big, bright and bold in order to get everyone’s attention. “You weren’t going to miss this build from 100 yards away, so we sent our brainstorming to KEG Media and they focused our ideas into a solid vision. After we had the visual aids from KEG we set into it hard. I don’t like to deviate from an approved rendering too much but we added a few details that really stand out in person,” Edwards explains.

Calling it “Thumper,” the General is a serious show piece with its graphics, custom powder coating and chrome Specialty Forged wheels. But shortly after SEMA it was baptized in mud – a testament that it’s not just for show. “The Cash Bred Off-Road cage was built specifically for Thumper; there are no others like it. Our friends at Specialty Forged Wheels cut us one-of-a-kind 22x10 wheels. The entire General was blown apart down to the frame and powder coated by Tough Country and NB Powdercoating. We combined

the Pushing Limits Motorsports 10” lift and Super ATV 4” portals for a total of 14 inches of lift. Audio Source in New Braunfels, TX installed the stereo and Rockford Fosgate components and gave us incredible sound quality. They also wrapped the plastics in a custom black and white wrap to set it off against the green powder coating. Heretic Studio provided us with incredible headlights and a matching steering wheel that combined with the PRP seats keep the driver and passengers in total control,” Edwards mentions.

“Everything came together better than we could imagine,” he details. “We are still excited about it.” Before Thumper, Cash Bred Off-Road had never built anything for a UTV prior, but they dedicated themselves to learning everything they could to create a build that would be the talk of the show when it was showcased at the 2016 SEMA Show. “Deadlines leading up to SEMA were tough but my guys at Cash Bred Off-Road and our buddies at Orr Motorsports are some of the best in our industry and absolutely killed it. Thumper is driven hard by Dos and used as Orr Motorsports mechanical brand ambassador,” he says. Although Thumper is Cash Bred Off-Road’s masterpiece, once they got their feet wet with UTVs, they’ve continued creating badass weekend toys and also aided in organizing a Polaris Ranger “High Limit” that was put together to promote a local dealership, Woods Cycle Country. It features a total of 16” of lift, 22x10 Specialty Forged wheels, classic pearl and polished theme and a complete Wet Sounds audio package. “We’ve set our personal bar high with the Thumper build, so we’ll have to do a lot of work to top it in the future,” he says.

merica’s love affair with customizing Jeeps and trucks has only intensified since the 2015 SEMA Show. Thanks to new suspensions, wheels, tires, performance parts and all the accessories that continue to hit the largest aftermarket show in the world, consumers are coming up with bigger and better ways to show off their personal style and preferences when it comes to their rigs. As usual, the LFTD& LVLD display outside the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall reflected just how much America loves the current trend, with Dropstars, TIS Off-Road wheels, GRID Off-Road, Specialty Forged and American Force wheels leading the pack, along with other popular off-road wheel companies, proving that nothing is as essential to any custom build as a set of eye-catching wheels. Inside featured a slew of new products for Jeeps and trucks, providing show goers the chance to see the latest and greatest products before everyone else. Established names in the industry like Wild Boar, Skyjacker, ARE Accessories, Fab Fours, Bushwacker, BDS Suspensions, Rigid Industries, and Rugged Ridge showcased new product offerings that continue to push the offroad category to the next level. DUB IR luxury window tint was also featured on dozens of customs at the show, showing off how it reduces the absorption of infrared light, which allows your ride to stay cooler on the inside even though it’s like an inferno outside. SEMA 2016 has definitely set the bar for a huge 2017 and we’re looking forward to checking out all these great products out on the streets, trails, malls and shows!
