T
he summer is here and that means fun in the sun! Whether, it’s an off-road trip with your family and friends, hitting a local truck show, or riding around town in a topless Jeep, this time of the year is the best time of year to show off your rig. While show queens are great and all, many customizing enthusiasts are focused on vehicles that not only look good, but perform well too and we’ve got plenty of inspiration in our latest issue. Extreme Off-Road is now becoming a family affair with owner Austin O’Krinsky’s brother getting into the industry with his very own Jeep Wrangler dressed in JKS parts from head to toe. With a vision in mind, the Wrangler is definitely something that can hold its own for any summer adventures. As soon as Shaun Freilich of Complete Customs heard that Fuel Wheels were coming out with a 26” rim, he knew he had to have the first GMC HD truck riding on those bad boys and went to work creating “El Jefe.”

Jake Mitchell of Jake’s Custom Diesel is known for his 6-door creations and he’s once again outdone himself with his latest beast – “Iron Max.” It’s a 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD Dually that’s one mean machine just like its super hero inspiration. Aaron Castaneda knows no limits when it comes to his trucks and his Ram 2500 Limited Mega Cab is an example of how far he’ll go to get the perfect setup. “Limitless” takes what he learned on his first build to new heights, transforming a standard Ram into a customizer’s dream build. Jared Sensat knew he wanted to do some good with his GMC Sierra Crew Cab and set out to raise awareness with Project Steel Grey, which has been transformed into the noteworthy 2.0 version that raises awareness for Alzheimer’s everywhere it goes. Ralph Holguin knows what it takes to create something extraordinary, having built several full-blown cover worthy street machines over the
years. “Urban Madness” is a 1969 Ford Bronco that is his vision of a restyled urban assault vehicle. Maxxed Performance worked on two Jeeps for this issue – a two-door Wrangler that’s anything but ordinary and a four-door Unlimited that perfectly showcased what a Jeep could be for customers of the shop! And we have some samples from the 51st Annual Easter Jeep Safari In Moab, UT and the massive Lonestar Throwdown, which is quickly becoming the show to be at for all custom truck and Jeep lifestyle enthusiasts. R
alph Holguin has a long history of blending the lines of street rods, lowriders, luxury and Pro-Touring style builds and developing his own unique custom rides. Such was the case with one of his more recent builds - a 1962 Lincoln Continental that garnered more than 3 million views on social media. But being a true automotive enthusiast, Ralph wanted to branch out and showcase his vision on other rides and decided to build something completely different from what he has done in the past. Thanks to the launch of his upcoming show, “RMD Garage,” premiering on Velocity Network come August 2nd, he felt it was the perfect time to try something new.
“I’ve always had an affinity for the Ford Bronco and I wanted to build one that really stood out,” Ralph describes. “Ideally, we wanted ‘Urban Madness’ [the Bronco’s nickname] to be elegant, yet rugged, and could be driven every day.” Taking inspiration from the concrete jungle of his L.A. hometown, Ralph and his team set out to build a rig that could ideally handle the apocalypse, in style, if it should ever happen. Thus, “Urban Madness” was born and the crew went to work on building something unique that could be captured on film and showcase their customization versatility, while still encompassing everything needed to be the talk of the show at last year’s SEMA.
I’VE ALWAYS HAD AN AFFINITY FOR THE FORD BRONCO AND I WANTED TO BUILD ONE THAT REALLY STOOD OUT. IDEALLY, WE WANTED ‘URBAN MADNESS’ TO BE ELEGANT, YET RUGGED, AND COULD BE DRIVEN EVERY DAY.” But the team had their work cut out for them given the amount of bodywork that had to be done to the vintage Bronco. “A good friend of mine always wanted to see what I could do if I had the chance to build a Bronco,” Ralph admits. “I love challenges and knew that the RMD Garage team and I would be able to not only deliver, but do it with custom one-off pieces that we designed since I wanted it to be unique.” To bring his vision to life, Ralph knew he had to work with the best in the industry and reached out to his partners for parts, accessories and more. “I needed this build to make a statement and to stand out in a sea of other custom builds,” he says. “This oneof-a-kind build, required a diverse and unique approach for the RMD Garage team. Urban Madness being our flagship 4x4 build, created a unique opportunity for us to push the limits, and create something truly amazing. You can see it in every detail from the custom Go Rhino bumpers, and Go Rhino roof rack with LED lights (controlled by sPOD switches), and custom sheet metal safari doors.” RMD Garage’s in-house upholstery team handcrafted every inch of the interior that Ralph designed. The goal was to create a sense of luxury meets urban street, which is seen in the custom military-style webbing center support and the addition of saddlebags for long journeys.

RMD Garage’s in-house team of painters headed by Victor and Rafa Ceron - with Eddie Velasquez, spearheaded the body and paint work. The two-tone BASF Glasurit Satin Green and Gray paint finishes, along with the integration of the American flags and custom decals, blends with the current urban theme. The undercarriage was color-matched, showcasing the precision and attention to detail the RMD Garage team strives to achieve on every build. The chassis and fabrication work was by Frank Guevara and David Riera, with the original chassis undergoing major modifications from its Skyjacker lift kit to its custom made rear end Bronco housing. CNC machined plates were fitted throughout the entire build and a roll cage was constructed from scratch, which helped bring the Bronco to life. United Pacific LED lights illuminate the environment, and the Wilwood Big Brake Kit were installed for modern stopping power.

All engine work on the small block Ford 302ci V8 was completed by Joe Ellis, Felix Gomez, and Eddie Velasquez. An in-house fabricated Borla exhaust adds power to the 302, while the performance is enhanced with a Borla Throttle Body Induction System, while still maintaining its street drivability.
Sound and electrical were headed by RMD Garage members Samuel Murillo and David Riera, making Urban Madness sound as good as she looks thanks to the new Kicker sound system that’s placed within a handcrafted, industrial metal enclosure. Urban Madness is finished off with 18” TIS wheels, and matched with aggressive 35” Toyo Open Country M/T tires.

“Honestly, I couldn’t be happier about how she turned out, but I’m also biased,” Ralph details. “I love this Bronco; she was my first, and definitely not my last. My team did an amazing job, and you can tell with every little detail, we left no stone unturned, and we just went for it. I didn’t want to go down the safe route with this one. I wanted this build to make a huge statement, and I think she did.” In fact, Urban Madness has made such a statement, that Bronco lovers from all across the globe have reached out to the RMD Garage directly via their social media channels to declare their love for the build. They’ve also had a couple of Bronco enthusiasts approach them and ask for help to restore their older builds. Tell us about yourself. Where were you born? I was born and raised here in Los Angeles. You have an exotic look, what’s your ethnicity? I get that a lot [laughs] and people guess all sorts of different ethnicities. I’m actually 100% Salvadoran. How did you get into modeling? In 2013, I decided to enter a hometown hotties competition that MAXIM magazine used to have every year. Modeling was something I always wanted to get into, but never had the chance to pursue. So one day I decided to take some photos, submitted them and I ended up making the top 10! How did you become a Monster Girl and how long have you been repping Monster Energy? I actually always wanted to do a casting for them, and after putting it out there to the universe I ended up meeting a good friend that works for them. I interviewed with them and here I am! I’ve been here for about two years now. What events can fans meet you at this year? You can catch me across the country at some DUB Shows, NASCAR races, BBoy events and many more! I was actually at the Charlotte DUB Show and it was awesome. Everyone at the show was so friendly and all the custom cars people showed off were amazing! Speaking of amazing cars, what did you think about the Ford Bronco? You mean my Christmas gift for this year? Ugh, I wanted to keep it forever - it’s a beauty. I’m a fan of details, and the Bronco definitely had a lot of them. You can see all the work that was put into it. It was very impressive. How do you think Ralph’s personality is reflected in the Bronco? It’s badass, just like him! Again, it goes back to the details, and when you meet Ralph, his facility and his team, you know right away that they focus on the details. What were your thoughts of the RMD Creative Space and Garage? Oh, man! My major is PR and minor is advertising, so as soon as I walked in I was in love. I love creative spaces and it instantly brings me happiness to be in one. It’s put together nicely; everything flows and the cars are beautiful!

fter Aaron Castaneda, aka Bossman, debuted his 2015 Dodge 3500 Mega Cab Dually Longhorn Edition nicknamed “Big Chief” at the 2015 SEMA Show, he knew he had to outdo himself with something bigger and badder. As a self-proclaimed “country man,” Aaron likes to always have a 4x4 to put to good use, creating a weekend toy and show queen. For his second build, he’s back with a 2016 Ram 2500 Limited Mega Cab he affectionately calls “Limitless.” “Since the truck is a limited edition and I never have any limits on anything I do, the name just matched perfectly,” he mentions. As a pipeliner working in the oil fields of Texas for more than 13 years, Aaron wanted to pay homage to his trade with the truck’s graphics (done by Pixelwerks of Houston, TX) to show his love and appreciation to an industry that’s paid his bills and helped him fund his customization dreams.

With a specific vision in mind, Aaron did his best to make sure the end result matched his expectations. To help him on his sophomore project, Aaron went to Da Drop Shop (Midland, TX) for the exterior install and powder coating of parts, and had Branded Customs (Dallas, TX) hook up his Focal Audio system. To give it some massive and adjustable height (9-13�), an Ultimate Air Ride Stage 4 -2500/3500 Long Arm Cradle Suspension system was fitted. The new Body Guard Bumpers A2L Series low profile and lightweight replacement bumpers completely change the look of the truck giving it an aggressive demeanor. The front bumper was also fitted with Off-Road LED lights and a Gravel Empire grille which makes a statement when you see this Dodge in your rearview mirror. A set of massive 26x16 Specialty Forged C702 concave wheels in Iridium Red wrapped in 40� Fury OffRoad tires provide the truck with proper footing.

“Everything we did, we did over the top,” he describes. “From the Ultimate Air Ride suspension that’s fully powder coated with Prismatic Powders Lollipop Red to the Horn Blasters Admiral kit with powdered tanks and the Specialty Forged concave wheels, we made sure to cover every square inch to make sure this build was perfect.” But one aspect that ended up being a debatable situation between all parties involved was color-matching the entire frame to the suspension and other aftermarket mods, but in the end, all were happy on the decision. “I’m really happy with the way the build turned out,” he proclaims. “I had a vision and it exceeded my expectations. It came out perfect! It totally surpassed my previous build.”

ake Mitchell Mitchell, of Jake’s Custom Diesel, was the mastermind behind a 6-door Ford F-450 conversion called Poseidon’s Wrath, which was also one of our previous cover features. And now, he’s outdone himself with his latest creation dubbed “Iron Max.” As the name suggests, this build started out as a Duramax-powered 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD Dually and was transformed into a custom 6-door show stopper that the Oklahoma-based shop is renown for. With Iron Max, Jake wanted a truck that was clean and wild at the same time; something that could easily be parked alongside some of the best builds at shows, while still being able to roll out across the Interstate for impromptu joyrides. “All of our builds are for guys that enjoy waking
up and driving a show queen around town,” he declares, making sure that motto extends to his own personal rigs, too. The Duramax was chosen because at the time, only a handful of shops were trying to build a 6-door Duramax and the fact that their previous noteworthy build was also a Dually. “We love building a rough and tough Dually,” Jake confesses, adding that he likes how mean they look. Because now there’s more competition from shops building similar 6-doors, Jake knew this time around it would be more difficult to build something extraordinary, but didn’t shy away from the challenge. “The build really allowed us to showcase our craftsmanship, engineering and design ability, while also getting a pretty sweet ride for myself!”

The Duramax wears red with gold livery - the same as the well known and beloved Iron Man. “I figured since Iron Man is so over-the-top with the things he does in the movies, that it would go well with my most recent build!”
Everything started with a call to their good friend Robbie Bryant of Keg Media, who came up with a killer design after Jake told him what he wanted everything to look like. From there, it was time to get to work sourcing the products, which was pretty tough for Jake who knows there are a lot of great parts and accessories on the market these days. “Each build and truck needs certain things in my eyes,” he says. “Adding on the right pieces and products to the truck is what sets a truck apart from others and I only like to use the biggest and the best!” 90

Prepped in just 60 days, but really bolted together and assembled in a matter of two weeks, Jake and his crew spent quite a few sleepless nights to make sure everything was set for the big debut at last year’s SEMA Show. “As most builders know when you fabricate a truck for a show like SEMA there is always a time crunch that occurs. This is mostly due to the massive amount of product being shipped to builders and it does not help when you procrastinate a little too long because you’re trying to make the build perfect.”

And perfect is how Jake describes the finished product. The public loves it, as they always make sure to let Jake know how much they admire the truck at shows and events. He especially likes it when kids are astounded by Iron Max, with thoughts that he’s inspired the next generation of custom truck enthusiasts. “Hearing great words from other builders and our friends and people we meet at shows are some of the best things too!” he says. “And we have received nothing but the best of words from everyone! Of course, there are those who say, ‘Hey! Why’d you even do that? My Prius gets better gas mileage!’ and we just wave and smile!” As by far the most challenging build of his career, Jake is proud of this red and gold beauty and his team that put it together. Their time, effort and dedication to create a truly iconic truck has set the bar high for Jake’s Custom Diesel moving forward, and we can’t wait to see what they create next.

W
hen your shoe game is strong, the rest of the outfit follows suit, which is exactly the case for Complete Customs’ El Jefe GMC. The Dallas–Fort Worth-based shop is known for their elaborate builds, dressed in the latest and greatest mods around, so when they got word that Specialty Forged was releasing a 26” wheel and Fuel was dropping a 40x15.50R26 M/T tire, owner Shaun Freilich headed straight to the GMC dealership to pick up a 2015 GMC HD truck that would not only look badass with the wheel/tire combo, but also pair nicely with the newly released Bulletproof Suspensions cantilever rear suspension. “We built this truck more for everyday use and to highlight the 26s wrapped in 40” tires since we wanted to be one of the first trucks to roll with this setup!” Shaun exclaims, adding that it’s the ultimate HD truck around. Since it was going to be Shaun’s personal work horse, the guys at the shop started calling the truck “El Jefe” and the name sort of stuck throughout the build.

To keep the project “clean and classy” for everyday excursions, the crew wanted to keep the overall concept simple but impactful, which is exactly what the result was. Besides the Specialty Forged wheels and Bulletproof Suspensions lift, El Jefe is dressed in a ton of other mods that add to its overall clean exterior. “As we do everything here at Complete Customs, when we plan builds for SEMA, we always make sure to incorporate the products that we truly believe in and sell daily at the shop,” he details. “These manufacturers are considered part of the team because without them we would not be where we are today.”

El Jefe made its debut at the 2015 SEMA Show with Truck Hero and is now a shop rig that’s displayed at shows and events across Texas to market their work, in addition to it being Shaun’s daily driver. “The attention the truck has received from the public has been awesome,” he says. “I’d like to thank Team CC for all the late nights and hard work that went into this build. As well as all the sponsors that teamed up with us on the project!”

I
n 2014, Jared Sensat unveiled Project Steel Grey at SEMA, which was dedicated to bringing about Alzheimer’s Awareness after his father was diagnosed with the debilitating disease. “After witnessing the true devastation Alzheimer’s is capable of, I wanted to help others be better aware of this life-changing disease,” Jared explains. “Since I’ve been a huge enthusiast of the automotive industry, I knew the most efficient way to gain exposure was to build a truck worthy enough to attend SEMA.” That year, his build was showcased with Hostile Wheels, but it wasn’t enough for Jared, who wanted to make a bigger impact for the cause and redesigned it for the following year’s show. “As soon as I checked SEMA 2014, I knew I needed to go bigger with the build to really make an impact for the dedication to Alzheimer’s Awareness,” he says.

As a huge GM supporter, it was a no brainer to use a GMC Sierra Crew Cab, which allowed him to do an awareness build that would still be able to be driven on the regular. Its first iteration was a learning experience and Jared worked out a few customization kinks for Project Steel Gray 2.0. “It took a total of two years to complete,” he admits. “I realized that these types of projects are never really finished. There’s always something different or more that can be done.”
For the second makeover, he wanted to change the design of the truck, focusing on the suspension and exterior mods. He kept the McGaughy’s 7”-9” SS lift kit and added a set of their new traction bars. He also swapped out the stock sway bar with Hellwig’s HD sway bar to match the rear. Because he wanted a more aggressive design, he chose mods that provided that look, including the Backbone truck rack, HammerHead bumpers, T-Rex grille, Bedtred bedliner, Flashtech LED lighting, TIS Wheels and custom ANZO headlights. “The responses regarding the build were awesome,” he notes. “It received a huge amount of support from all the companies involved and the public. It touched a lot of people who have lost loved ones to Alzheimer’s.” 128

A
ustin O’Krinsky of Extreme Offroad in Katy, Texas, is making custom rigs a family affair after helping his brother Jordan design a kick ass build worthy of the Extreme Offroad badge. When BDS Suspension needed a badass Jeep for their SEMA build last year, Austin knew his brother’s JK would be the perfect specimen for the transformation. “BDS needed a Jeep to showcase their JKS line of new products for the Jeep platform,” Austin recaps. “They not only wanted a Jeep that looked nice when at shows, but was also 100% capable of anything you threw at it off-road so to impress hardcore Jeep fanatics enough not to think it was just a ‘mall crawler.’”
BDS NEEDED A JEEP TO SHOWCASE THEIR JKS LINE OF NEW PRODUCTS FOR THE JEEP PLATFORM. THEY NOT ONLY WANTED A JEEP THAT LOOKED NICE WHEN AT SHOWS, BUT WAS ALSO 100% CAPABLE OF ANYTHING YOU THREW AT IT OFF-ROAD SO TO IMPRESS HARDCORE JEEP FANATICS ENOUGH NOT TO THINK IT WAS JUST A ‘MALL CRAWLER.’”

Aptly named “Project Jspec” after the JKS line of BDS products, the build started off with a brainstorming session with Extreme Offroad and BDS before letting the prominent Texas shop work their magic on the Jeep. With JKS products in the spotlight, Austin went with mods that complemented the Jeep and matched the overall look and function the team was going for, including a few new products like the FOX coil over conversion for the front suspension.
“Other highlights of the Jeep include the custom Kicker sound system and JCR bumpers and fenders that really complete the Wrangler’s overall look,” Austin mentions. “In the end, we did everything we wanted, which resulted in a ton of attention for not only looking good, but also working well. We tested it out in the desert before the show and it couldn’t have run better!” The overall build took a total of two months to complete with minor hiccups, including waiting until days before it had to leave to SEMA to get
all the new one-off parts for the suspension from JKS! But as a seasoned builder, Austin didn’t let that stop him from creating a show-worthy Jeep his brother would love and JKS would be happy to show off at the biggest automotive aftermarket show in the world. Now Austin’s brother Jordan enjoys the Jeep on the regular, occasionally lending it to Austin to show off at his shop and local events throughout the year. 138

B
aylee Williams has been around tons of customized rides since she first started dating Max Brill, owner of Maxxed Performance in Baytown, TX. With a boyfriend who creates show-worthy trucks and Jeeps, it was only natural that Baylee want something for herself. Being a sporty girl by nature, Baylee knew her first custom would be a Jeep Wrangler. “When I bought my Jeep, I had no idea what the outcome would be,” she admits. “I knew I wanted a lift, wheels and tires, but I never imagined Specialty Forged wheels and the interior and audio coming into play.” All Baylee knew was that she wanted a Jeep that she could drive on the regular and then flaunt it on the weekends at shows and events. While the majority of Jeep builds use the four-door Wrangler, Baylee knew if she wanted to something unique, she needed to be different and went with the classic two-door design. “I wanted my Jeep to stand out from the crowd of Jeeps,” she describes. “With this build, I wanted to show people that you don’t have to conform to what everyone else is building, but to let your build speak for itself.”

Since the initial design was to build a standout Jeep, Max and Baylee went to work gathering the right mods and accessories to bring their vision to life. But as they got deeper and deeper into the process, they realized that their first vision wasn’t as detailed as it needed to be. “Max doesn’t let the details go untouched and I was always ready to do the next big thing. So, as the
build progressed so did our ideas, we wanted to go bigger and better.” Nicknamed the “Turtle” for its crazy stance and slow moving speeds, it sports VKS front and rear bumpers, a powder-coated BDS suspension lift with FOX shocks that were wrapped by Pixlewerks and 22x16 Specialty Forged wheels (that the company took the time to build with
Maxx Performance using Facetime) wrapped in 355/40R22 Nitto Trail Grapplers. Inside there are Corbeau Racing seats and an audio system made up of Focal mids and highs and an 18” SAS sub done by Car Tunes (Clear Lake, TX). “It’s so cool to drive down the road and show people the idea you had in your mind,” Baylee says, adding that people are left speechless when

they see it at shows. The Jeep made its grand entrance at Lone Star Throwdown and she admits that the build is one of the “coolest things” she’s ever done. “I got responses that I only dreamed of. People took tons of pictures of it, and circled it when the audio was playing. It was awesome to see people in awe of my Jeep and appreciate the build the way that I do.” As one of the things Baylee is most proud of, she loved being able to brainstorm with Max and the shop’s crew every step of the way. “The guys

never let a detail go untouched and always give their honest opinion about what you should and shouldn’t do,” she details. Because everyone was so involved, she felt that it wasn’t just her build anymore and is happy to share something that
she loves with a shop she considers family. “My jeep is something that I have always dreamed of. The build has totally exceeded my expectations; I’ve been super lucky to have the opportunity to do something as big as this!”

A
s the sales manager at Maxxed Performance in Baytown, TX, Reid Rollinson knows that in order to sell a product, you have to know everything about it. Customers want to see how the parts they buy are put to use, which is what makes Reid’s JKU the perfect sales tool. Built to be a daily driver, all the parts and accessories were meticulously chosen to handle the everyday wear and tear on the Jeep, something that hits close to home to Reid. “I never wanted to build something I couldn’t use,” he says, adding that all his previous builds followed suit. But Reid didn’t just want to show and sell customers parts, he also had his own agenda in mind. “I wanted to stand out in a genre of vehicles that tend to be built a certain way that are similar to each other, so I wanted my own spin on what a Jeep could be.” To get the Jeep he wanted, Reid enlisted the help of Max Brill, owner of Maxxed Performance, and the two brainstormed about how to outdo other builds, while still being faithful to their unique style (“I don’t know how to describe it; we’ve just always done things a bit different,” he confesses.)

To give it maximum height, Reid went with a 6”-12” one-off adjustable Air Ride lift with parts from BDS Suspension and Ekstensive Metalworks, as well as Fox Racing Shocks for a better daily ride. He chose a set of 24x14 Forgiato Esporre-T in a custom two-tone finish and wrapped in 40X15.50R24 Nitto Trail Grapplers. He then decided to fit VKS front and rear bumpers with Poison Spyder Crusher flares and inner fenders. A Rugged Ridge Spartan grille with one-off projector headlights built by Reid gives it a mean demeanor when you see it up close, while JW Speaker taillights are out back, which he custom painted. All suspension parts, bumpers and fenders were powder coated in-house at Maxxed Performance.

“The Jeep had overwhelmingly good responses from most people, although a few Jeep people considered it a waste,” he admits. “It wasn’t built for them, though.” The JK made its first appearance at the Last Resort Show in Jennings, LA and is currently making someone else happy, as Reid recently sold it to move on to his next build. “I think this build was a progression of the previous builds, and I’m always trying to move forward and push the envelope of what we do at the shop!”

he Lone Star Throwdown is quickly becoming the show for off-road enthusiasts, growing each and every year since 2012, with 2017 its biggest to date! oab, Utah becomes Jeep Mecca each spring, as thousands of off-road enthusiasts make their way to the desert known for its intense trails and immense adventure and this year, the fun went down April 8 to 16th. The 51st annual Jeep Safari not only promised good times as Jeeps from across the globe crawl, climb and conquer Moab’s iconic slickrock and various off-road extremes, but loads of displays and more from the industry’s best known names. Hosted by Red Rock 4-Wheelers Inc. – one of four local four-wheel drive clubs of the region – the event consists of daylong trail rides all 9 days of the event.
