here are a few distinct approaches builders take when customizing their rigs. Some like to research and compile their favorite parts first, while other choose a particular theme and then build around it. It’s a subjective process and there’s certainly no right or wrong approach to go about it, which is a big part of why we love this industry. As CJ Dunlap’s second build, The Joker Ford F-350 truly showcases his expertise when it comes to designing one badass truck. Its matte black exterior and massive lift add to its menacing demeanor, while it’s purple embossing adds a unique touch not seen on many rigs.

Definitely standing out from the crowd is one of the top concerns when approaching a build and Eric Gosselin’s 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD does just that with its galaxy-themed wrap. Nicknamed Galaxymax, Scotty Tittle saw it on social media and knew he had to build a matching RZR with the same theme - and wow, what a result! For Chris Pate’s first build, he was mentored by an industry vet and was able to create his militant Tacoma to represent for his Level 7 truck club. Cris Payne is no stranger to jaw-dropping builds and is known for his Ram Dually with a matching full-size lifted Jeep that gets towed on top. Now he’s back with his Realtree camo themed Jeep JK!

And because this isn’t an industry just for the boys, Courtney Cornwell (admittedly with some help from dad) flexes her creative muscles with her off-road/show queen/daily driver Mudbug Jeep JK build. But not all noteworthy builds have to be over the top. Take Grant Long’s clean 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 that pops thanks to its killer color combo. It’s good to know that the possibilities are endless - it sort of guarantees that LFTD& LVLD will be there to cover this scene for many years to come! Enjoy Issue 9

nderground AutoStyling has built many show-stopping vehicles and innovative builds in the past, including their famous all-white Jeeps, the world’s loudest center console boat, a stretched Ford F-650 limo truck, and a slew of Polaris Slingshots. They’ve built countless show vehicles, as well as daily drivers, and come up with unique customs for even the most outrageous requests. This particular show-stopper is a Polaris Ranger Crew Diesel which was built to be the world’s loudest side-by-side. MMATs Pro Audio got wind of Underground AutoStyling’s build and they knew they had to have it in their booth at the 2016 CES Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV, where this bass-pounding Polaris made its debut. Known for creating efficient and powerful amplifiers and subwoofers, MMATs Pro Audio provided the shop with all the products they’d need to accomplish their goal. According to Jake Polubinski, owner of Underground AutoStyling, the vehicle has well over 30,000W and houses more than 50 speakers, along with thousands of feet of wire. And all of this is seamlessly integrated into the Polaris to where you can barely tell how much equipment exists, making it almost look factory. Powering everything are two large Stinger batteries with an onboard generator with all 26

Stinger premium wire. Although it’s more than capable of hitting the mud and trails, this Ranger was purpose-built to go on the show circuit. Many of its electronic features limit its off-road usage, including a motorized iPad Mini, amplifier rack and speaker pods. The Ranger is the first side-by-side that’s rocking 22” Forgiato wheels in 33” mud tires - with an S3 lift kit installed to accommodate the large dirt tires. This particular Polaris build boasts a oneoff welded frame and cage that was designed in-house that look seamless as if they came straight from the factory. “For durability, all of the speakers are waterproof coated and a marine vinyl custom interior was installed, while the

framework is all aluminum and the custom roof and other parts are all fiberglass,” Polubinski says. Polubinski has taken the Polaris to many shows, and because it’s so loud, he’s always asked to turn it down because it disrupts any performances on stage. “The audio on it would compare to many professional sound stages and, yet, it’s coming from a side-by-side,” he says. “Underground is known for putting insanely loud and clear sound into everything we put our hands on and on most vehicles people would not think possible. This build exemplifies that.” Never one to rest on their own laurels, Underground AutoStyling is already working on the world’s loudest Polaris Slingshot.

ou’re probably familiar with the name “Chris Kyle” from the biographical war drama “American Sniper.” The movie is based on the real life American hero and U.S. Navy SEAL, Chris Kyle, who took his mission to protect his comrades to heart and became one of the most lethal snipers in history. To honor the late Chris and remember his legacy his wife, Taya Kyle, founded the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation to provide experiences that strengthen military and first

responder marriages and families. Taya knew all too well the issues encountered by these families and wanted to start something that would help them through difficult times. Shaun Freilich of Complete Customs wanted to help the foundation and created two extraordinary Jeep builds – “The Legend” and “Frog Jeep” – to bring awareness to the foundation and keep Chris’ spirit alive. “We chose to build Jeeps because after speaking with the CK Frog Foundation, we thought

we could express Chris’ personality through a Jeep more than a truck because all of the accessories we’d be able to incorporate into Jeep builds,” Shaun explains. “Chris was a truck guy, but we just didn’t feel like we could express his personality with a truck as the base vehicle. He was a larger than life person that exuded passion for America, and we felt that the Jeep does the same thing. There is no other vehicle produced for consumers that represents decades of struggle ensuring the freedoms of our great country.”

When choosing products for the two Jeeps, Shaun knew he wanted to work with brands and shops that Chris worked with, too. He was good friends with the founder of Kryptek and knew they had to incorporate the Kryptek camo into the builds. As soon as they got the green light, Shaun and the guys at the shop used the Kryptek camo pattern on the exterior Kevlar paint, as well as with the interior’s Roadwire seat covers. They also worked with BowTech since the timing perfectly matched their own release of a Chris Kyle Edition

Back in 2009, Dodge ditched the tried and true rear leaf springs on their 1/2-ton trucks in favor of a rear coil sprung linked suspension setup to improve the ride quality and capability. 5 years later they did the same on the 3/4-ton trucks, converting to a new front radius arm and rear coil sprung multilink setup. BDS did their homework when it came to engineering this 8’’ 4-link system for the perfect balance of driveability and performance. From the dual rate front coil springs and the 4-link conversion to the rear spring outboard kit and rear track bar assembly designed to improve stability, & transfer case indexing this kit has all the angles covered for the RAM owner looking for a smooth ride, improved performance offroad and more stability towing and cornering.

Up front the 8’’ system ditches the factory radius arms and converts over to a 4-link design for added stability and caster control through wheel travel. The brackets are built from 1/4’’ steel and tie into the frame rail and factory radius arm mounts. Control arms are built from 2’’ OD x 3/16’’ wall DOM tubing with 2.5’’ greasable bushings to isolate road vibrations. These combined with the forged drop pitman arm and track bar drop bracket to correct the steering geometry.

The front end of this RAM has been fitted with a dual steering stabilizer kit with FOX 2.0 shocks. This helps eliminate front end shimmy caused by the oversized tires. BDS offers several accessories for the late model RAM 2500/3500 including dual shock hoops, adjustable track bars & sway bar disconnects. The rear of this 8’’ system uses a rear spring outboard kit to widen the suspension a total of 16’’ (8’’ per side) for improved load capacity, handling and ride quality. Along with longer swaybar links the kit includes an adjustable rear track bar, track bar relocation bracket and lateral support brace.

But the real highlight of both Jeeps was seeing Taya’s reaction when they were first unveiled, Shaun describes. “She was in tears and immediately told us how Chris would love everything about them,” he adds. And to top it all off, The Legend was given the first “Life Is Better Off-Road” award by Transamerican Auto Parts. Everybody that sees the Jeeps loves them and they even had a massive following online before they were finished. “It’s amazing the amount of people who have been following the builds since we unveiled them in 2015. This year, we traveled

to Moab, UT for Easter Jeep Safari and Daytona, FL for Jeep Beach Weekend, which are two of the biggest Jeep events and they had massive crowds the entire time.” So far, The Legend is the only one that’s seen some dirt, traversing the terrain of Moab and escaping with only minor issues. The Chris Kyle Jeep builds are by far the biggest builds to come out of Complete Customs to date, which says a lot for a shop known for banging out extreme customs. “They represent so much for so many people,” Shaun details. “Building a vehicle with meaning is the best kind of build.” Currently, the Jeeps are traveling the nation and are featured at various automotive shows and all Chris Kyle Frog Foundation events.

ris Payne has built practically everything you can imagine – from trucks to sideby-sides to Jeeps and Duallys, which is how he got his name the “Truck Guru.” He’s been building full-size trucks since 2007 and his most well known creation is his Ram Dually with matching full-size lifted Jeep that gets transported on top. “I’ve loved every minute of it,” Payne exclaims. “Sometimes building is hard… You have to figure out if you should go with what you like or if you should cater to people and build what you think they want to see. I feel like I try to set trends rather than follow others. It’s hard to be unique and stand out anymore, but it can be done!” Always striving to create something that “breaks necks at the shows and on the streets,” Payne sought out to build a fully capable and functional off-road machine with this Jeep. Recently, he’s been focusing more on truck builds, so he decided to switch it up a bit and keep things fresh when it came time to choosing the base vehicle, going with the popular JK platform.

Since Jeeps are synonymous with off-roading and the great outdoors, Payne went with a forest theme as seen on its tree and leaves vinyl wrap that exemplifies the vehicle’s intent to conquer any terrain it meets. Designed by his artist Mat at Truck Guru Renderings, the ‘Realtree’ graphics definitely stand out, along with the American Force 20x10 wheels. “It was my first time going crazy on the big wheel craze, but with the help of Nick Chin at American Force, I think we hit it out of the park on the wheels!” he mentions. “I always try to incorporate my own flare in all my builds, but try and always remember to do something my fans and followers would like to see, too, keeping things practical for everyday use at the same time.” Another highlight mod on the Jeep is its Hornblaster Train Horn, which Payne adds is always a big hit when he takes it to shows. “No build of mine is complete without the help of Manny and Rigo at Hornblasters!”

Like many of his other builds, the Jeep has a huge following on social media and everyone loves it when they first see it. It’s been hitting the show tour heavy and according to Payne, the smiles, thumbs up, horn honks and pictures provides all the feedback to know his work is appreciated. “I thought it turned out very clean and wasn’t an over-the-top build,” he confesses. “I love the attention it commands when you have that thing in public.” When it’s not being displayed anywhere, Payne uses it as his daily driver and weekend toy. “Many know me well from stacking my full-size lifted Jeep on top of my full-size lifted Ram and I’d like to think we hit another level with this build – something that’s fully functional and yet practical on-and off-road!” SPECIAL THANKS to Gary Blagg and CJ for the help on getting this Jeep done for SEMA. ustomizing can mean many things to different people, but for Courtney Cornwell, it means some extra bonding time with her dad. Despite the fact that her dad had his own Jeep built by Rebel Off Road in 2012, Cornwell saw an opportunity to hang with him when it came time to put together her own JK. “Even though the build turned out great we decided we didn’t want to miss out on the actual build when it came time to build my Jeep,” she says. Growing up wheeling Blacks & Reds (Rausch Creek, PA) at 14 with her dad and their extended Jeep family, she grew up

in the Jeep lifestyle. “Being just 18 my Jeep is my only vehicle so it has to be my everything; it has to get me back and forth to work and school, and wheeling on the weekends,” she details. Cornwell and her dad tossed around several ideas before finally deciding on a color combo that she dedicates to her outdoors upbringing. “I’ve always been a bit of a country girl and even got nicknamed “Country” growing up. I enjoy hunting, fishing, and just being outdoors so I decided to go with a blaze orange and camo theme for the Jeep.”

When it came down to deciding on the products to use, Cornwell’s dad used many of the driveline/suspension parts from the same manufacturers that were used on his own Jeep. “His Jeep has always been great to drive both onand off-road, and he wanted to ensure that mine had the same mannerisms,” she tells. But that doesn’t mean that Cornwell didn’t make it her own and also spend many hours researching and selecting parts to give her Jeep the unique look that it has.

Her personal favorite upgrade on the build are the massive King 2.5 12” & 14” coilovers with adjustable dampening which allows her to go from street comfort to rock crawling beast with the turn of a dial. But what makes her look over her shoulder to stare back at her Jeep every time she walks away are the blaze orange cage from Rock Hard 4x4, fenders from Poison Spyder, and skull camowrapped grille and corner armor that sets off the look. “I’m a proud mom to say the least,” she adds.

Cornwell decided to call their creation “MudBug,” which is a combination of a childhood nickname and the fact that she liked riding in her dad’s Jeep as it drove in mud and muck when she was younger. Currently, the Jeep is doing triple duty as her daily driver, a show queen and an off-road rig. So far it has taken first place in the extreme category two years running at her local NOVA Jeepers Show and Shine event. “It’s everything a girl could dream of plus some,” she says. “But it’s a Jeep, and as every Jeeper knows, we’re all looking for the next mod! The build was worth every moment and I couldn’t have done it without the blood, sweat, and time given by my friends and family. I sincerely thank them all.”

indow tinting isn’t a modification that’s exclusive only to the hardcore car enthusiast community—it’s everywhere. The blackout-limo shade of tint from the ‘80s is what brought on restrictions of how dark you could go on your windows, and safety tint laws were put into effect - not only so you could see better through your windows at night, but so cops can also see what’s going on inside the vehicle. Crazy as it seems, tint can be a lot more than just an aesthetic change; window tint can benefit you and your passengers’ health. DUB Magazine may not strike a chord with tinting at first mention, unless you count the endless vehicles they’ve covered over the years,

featuring everything from moderate to can’tbe-seen dark tints. Having health in mind, DUB recently launched a new product that’s not aimed specifically at enthusiasts but more toward the everyday consumer. DUB IR™ is a new type of nano-ceramic ceramic tint that’s designed to block out harmful UV and infrared rays (IR), which is something that not all tints can do, no matter how dark the tint shade is. Driving a vehicle in broad daylight actually exposes you to more UV rays than you think, even if you’re partially shaded. Think of it like leaving the house without sunblock - you won’t be burned as if you would be standing in direct sunlight, but over time it can and will show its effects. DUB IR™ is currently in the process of

Remember to check your state law to see what the legal amount of shade can be applied to your vehicle. In some instances, DUB IR™ can be used in a lighter shade and still perform as described.

While we can’t force you to apply sunscreen every day, we do highly suggest, at the very least, outfitting your ride with DUB IR™ tint. It’s said to reject more than 80% of infrared while blocking out 99% of UV rays. At the same time it also rejects up to 60% of heat, which will keep your interior cabin cooler. DUB IR™ is available in a variety of light and dark shades, with 100% clarity to make it a fully legal modification, depending on your state’s laws. We visited AP Sounds and Customs in Southern California, where they removed a generic, darker tint in favor of a lighter DUB IR™ upgrade.

02. Your installer should be able to remove old tint easily, and if you’re doing this yourself, it actually is easy. Use a steamer to help get the edges to peel free and throw that cheap stuff in the garbage.

03. Next, you’ll want to remove as many contaminants from the factory glass surface as possible. Even if your car’s never had tint before, this step will be needed to ensure as smooth a mating surface as possible.

04. AP does have one trick up their sleeve to gain the edge over their competitors, and that’s using a vinyl plotter/cutter and special software to cut the film to a vehicle’s exact measurements, which includes all side windows, rear glass and in some cases, the front windshield (although not legal in every state; again, check your state’s laws).

05. Old school tint installers relied on their eyes and hands, and unless you are old school, it’s tough to beat the precision of this machine, no matter how good you are.

06. Next the tint is trimmed out of the master roll sheet—using the plotter not only saves time but materials, which also means, saving money.

07. Before the DUB IR™ tint is applied to the inner glass, AP’s installers form the tint on the outside.

08. Forming the tint on the outside makes it more spot on to position once it is ready to apply to the inside.

09. It takes a lot of extra time but you want your tint done right, right?

10. Once the tint’s been applied, give it a solid once-over to make sure there are no contaminants or air bubbles, and if there are, you can continue to work on it until they’ve been cleared.

After the DUB IR™ tint has been installed -it’s a touch darker than the factory tint (which, by the way, isn’t actual tint, it’s merely colored glass without any protection from UV and IR rays), adheres to proper vehicle code and will do what it’s meant to do: protect the skin you’re in and keep your vehicle cooler; it’ll also protect your interior from sun fade and damage.

When taken off-road, the alternating shoulder grooves help to clear mud quickly, while the lateral Z grooves give more biting edges for traction. ou could say that Eric Gosselin’s 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD is out of this world and you’d be right! As the owner of ECD Customs - a wrap company in Canada - he knows a thing or two on how to make a ride stand out from the crowd, which is exactly why he wanted to build this cosmos-inspired rig. With its eye-catching galaxy and star wrap that garners immediate attention, Gosselin calls his creation “Galaxymax”- a mix between its theme and Duramax, which has taken social media by storm using the hashtag of the same moniker. “This was strictly built as a marketing project to showcase our wrap!” he exclaims. “The main focus was to make an Internet famous truck with a trendsetting theme. We’ve sponsored a few wraps in the past for SEMA builds and was I instantly hooked and wanted to start building my own trucks.” To create his second SEMA build, he enlisted the help of Full Flex Customs in Texas and drove the truck all the way down South to get it all started. Since the galaxy wrap was the truck’s main focus, every part and mod had to complement its stellar exterior. “We put lots of time and details into the design,” Gosselin describes. “The colors came out great on the Avery vinyl and it was finished off with a perfect install by Chuck Courtois. We have a reputation of being a trendsetting company when it comes to wrapping and designing vehicles so it was a challenge to come up with something new and different, but yet still accepted by those who prefer more traditional looks.”

But the most unique mod was the custom lift, Gosselin mentions. A lot of time and thought went into figuring out how to do the front end coilovers, while still keeping the IFS suspension. That’s when Mike at Full Flex came up with the 3-link design in the rear. Other highlights include the details in the headlights and mirrors by plainANsimple by design and the 24x16 American Force multi-piece wheels wrapped in 40” Toyo Open Country tires. Of course, some people thought the truck was a bit over the top when it was first unveiled, but for the most part, Gosselin says people loved it. In fact, before it was showcased at last year’s SEMA Show, a few photos were leaked online and they went viral within a few hours. “It was shared countless times and seen by millions of online followers on multiple truck pages,” he notes.

The truck was mainly built for the SEMA Show to showcase ECD Customs’ wraps and now it’s traveling the U.S. and Canada. “We went to California, back to Texas for a few events then drove it to Florida and now we are doing all the Ontario shows in Canada!” Gosselin details. “My

dream was to drive it to the west coast and then all the way to the east coast! I was very blessed to be able to accomplish all of that with the truck without having any issues! It was a great build by a great team of people and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”

GALAXY RZR

hanks to the popularity of the offroad lifestyle, the ATV/SXS game has blown up over the last few years and the customizing world is catching up as builders set their eyes on RZRs. “There have been a lot of guys really pushing the envelope with these RZRs, so the competition is extremely heavy,” describes Scotty Tittle, owner of the galaxy-themed RZR. “ I decided I wanted to build one and called up Donnis Lewis over at Kaotic Motorsports [Kilgore, TX] and pretty much told him that I wanted to build the biggest baddest RZR on the planet, and in my mind, that is exactly what we did.” But Tittle didn’t just want it to look good, he wanted it to be a beast on the trails.

“We didn’t build it to be a show bike or trailer queen. We did everything possible to try and make the drivetrain on this thing bulletproof so we could thrash on it. The top of the doors are a little over 5.5-feet off the ground; we’ve been in water over the doors.” To get inspiration, Tittle and the crew at Kaotic Motorsports looked at the baddest bikes they could find to see what they were running and then went bigger and better. “Not only did we want to have the best products out there, we also wanted to do some stuff and have stuff that nobody else had ever done.” One such mod is the BPL party lights that were built into the roof, which was the only must-have product that Tittle immediately 130

knew right off the bat he wanted included even before design talks began. But it was a lot harder than just mounting some lights on the roof, with Kaotic Motorsports having to spend some extra time designing the roof in CAD software and then cutting it out to the exact specs so that it all would fit right. That’s something no one has ever done before,” he boasts. And the Galaxy wrap from Eric Gosselin at ECD Customs was another big highlight on the RZR, which he describes as being incredible. “It’s definitely the one thing that sets this apart from the rest.” Tittle saw Eric’s GalaxyMax on social media and then reached out to him about a possible collaboration, dressing his RZR similar to the

social media star. Although Gosselin is in Canada and Tittle in Texas, the two met up to showcase their matching rigs at this year’s Lone Star Throwdown. “ I was excited about the idea so I helped him with the design,” Gosselin says. The final mod that Tittle is particularly fond of is the Glazzkraft body kit, which adds to the overall uniqueness to the RZR since it’s usually used for guys that ride on dunes, but Tittle decided to throw one on a mud bike to shake things up a bit. Much to Tittle’s surprise, the end result was a people pleaser since he initially thought he’d get a lot more haters on its over-the-top look. But everywhere he’s taken it, people have given

him praise for its look. “We do get the occasional “trailer queen” or “pavement princess”, but that usually stops when they see us hit 4-5 foot mud holes,” he explains. Tittle has built built numerous vehicles, ATV’s, and SXS’s, but this is definitely his greatest build to date and everyone who worked on it is proud of the result. We are very pleased with this one. “When we finally finished it, I took a step back and just said, ‘Damn, that is so much cooler than I thought it could be.’ I love it. It’s exactly the bike we set out to build.” Although it’s showcased at various shows, Tittle likes to take it out to the 4-wheeler parks and ride it whenever he has a chance!

here are many ways to approach a build, with each customizer going with what best works for them. Some build around the parts they want to use for the project such as the suspension, wheels and tires and go from there, while others have a particular theme or vision in mind and build around that. For CJ Dunlap, building trucks with themes is how he creates his rides. With one other SEMA Show build under his belt, he approached this one with the idea that it would be mainly for show, occasionally pulling his matching RZR around. As a diehard Ford fan, he’s always wanted to build a massive Dually and finally pulled the trigger with a 2015 Ford F-350 that he’s nicknamed The Joker. “I had just watched The

Dark Knight, and I’m a huge Heath Ledger fan, so I decided to go with that name for the build,” he says. “I added the logos, purple, Why so serious wrap inside the truck, and the HA HA embossings on the side to bring out the theme of the build.” “Initially, I had planned on a green truck with purple suspension accents,” Dunlap describes. “But right before I started, I decided to go with a matte black truck with embossing, which I thought would flow much better. I’ve always been a fan of matte black vehicles… it gives it an almost stealth look. I’ve personally never seen the embossing anywhere else on a vehicle - at least not as detailed as this one. I sat down with Pixelwerks and we tried to think outside the box to help us stand out from the rest.”

Since Dunlap wanted a beast of a machine, he went with the 10”-22” Third Coast full air ride suspension was added and built by B&C Offroad, along with Firestone bags, Fox reservoir shocks and a Hellwig front sway bar. A set of AMP Research PowerSteps were installed which still only barely allows access to the towering truck. To set off its aggressive stance, a set of JR Forged rims were matched to Toyo Open Country M/T tires. Power adders come via a 5” Flo~Pro exhaust, SCT tuner with PIP tunes and S&B Cold Air Intake.

Aside from the 3-layer matte black wrap with purple embossed exterior, the truck’s menacing look is enhanced by its Road Armor front and rear bumpers, All Out Industries custom headlights, tail lights and third brake, Undercover bed cover and swing cases, BedRug bed liner, CargoGlide 1500XL and the Wet Sounds Stealth 10 Ultra that was flush mounted in the grille by All Wired Custom Grilles. The HornBlasters train horns are Dunlop’s favorite. At night, Offroad LED Bars light bars and Recon lighting combine to illuminate its way.

Overall, the build took six months to complete, but it was worth the wait since the final product was a hit with the public when it was unveiled at SEMA 2015. “People love the theme and the illusion purple powder coat. It’s definitely a build that stood out at the show and one that people couldn’t wait to see,” Dunlap says. “I couldn’t be more happy about it. I’m never disappointed when working with some of the best companies in the business.” With over $100k in parts and labor, The Joker is mostly used for shows, as Dunlap travels state to state to showcase the F-350, which is definitely more extreme than his last builds. “Everything is touched on this truck besides the frame. It definitely has more details, both inside and out!”

our first build can be daunting. You have a vision in mind, but don’t know which direction to take to make it a reality. Or you might not even know where to start as you try and navigate the complex world of customizing. Beginners usually start off small, opting for basic mods before trying their hand at more intricate and elaborate options that are usually done on successive creations once they have more experience. But Chris Pate didn’t have to worry about making rookie mistakes since he was under the guidance of experienced builder J.R. Posadas, creator of the Level 7 Tundra that we previously featured. As an experienced truck builder, Posadas knew what it took to create an outstanding rig that turned heads at shows as well as perform in the real world. “He saw that I was building up my truck and took me under his wings to help me with

mine,” Pate describes. “His truck was a two-time SEMA truck and landed in a few major magazines. I started taking my truck to shows with him with the goal of getting it to SEMA one day.” Since he previously owned a Toyota Tacoma and loved it for its toughness and reliability, he chose it as the build’s base vehicle and sought out to build a truck that would win shows and dominate the trails, while also being his daily driver. As for the Tacoma’s theme, he wanted it to be a reflection of his personality and his time in the military as a member of the Marine Corps Infantry given he started the build while still in active duty. “I wanted it to have a tactical and aggressive look as well as be able to clean up sexy for the shows,” he says. “I started this build with the goal of having the baddest Tacoma out there, and in my eyes and the eyes of thousands of others, I achieved that.” 163

The truck started out as the “Tacoma ZAV,” which stands for Zombie Assault Vehicle, but quickly changed to the “LEVEL 7 Tacoma” after Pate and Posadas started building it and taking it to shows – a name that mirrored Posadas’ own build. The design was to be all-around aggressive and tactical and Pate never once strayed away from that, choosing products that would emulate that look. “After it made it into SEMA 2014, it needed to change in order to have a shot at SEMA 2015,” he mentions. “I did a conversion to the newer 2014 model Tacoma and changed it from the black Kryptek Typhon camo to the white Kryptek Raid camo, along with some other minor changes. Nobody else had it and it was extremely aggressive. It brought a lot of attention to the build and definitely made it stand out from others. At SEMA 2014 I believe my truck was the only one with that design.”

Another highlight is the CVT tent since it fit the tactical and survival themes and wasn’t something that was normally seen in the show scene. “Judges at car shows didn’t know how to grade it – they couldn’t decide if it was a prop or part of the truck,” he says. “And the Baja fender flares were also new to the show scene and brought attention to the truck. Most trucks with Baja fenders were off-road pre-runners and typically were not shown at car shows. Now you see them on most lifted show trucks.” Thanks to the support of Posadas and the determination to create something spectacular, Pate couldn’t be happier with the way the Tacoma came out and what he achieved with it. Currently, the truck is being used for hunting expeditions in Oregon. “With the way it was built, it is off to roam the terrain like the predator that it is,” he confesses. Now he’s busy with his new creation for SEMA 2016 and running the Level 7 truck club which he and Posadas started. First it was primarily going to be a Tacoma and Tundra club, but he’s since then opened it up to all models. “Only the highest quality builds are accepted into our club and all members have big goals for their build. I created the club to bring dedicated truck enthusiasts together, and to use my experience to help them as [Posadas] once did for me. Level 7 Truck Club is on track to be the most elite truck club in the US and Canada.”

rant Long has loved custom lifted trucks ever since he was a kid. As an adult he’s always admired them from afar, appreciating their look and all the parts and accessories that went into creating them. But Grant grew tired of just being a spectator and decided it was time to get into the game and build his GMC Sierra. Although he’s into trucks for their utility and off-road capabilities, Grant decided to forgo a trailblazing ride and opt for a clean custom street rig that would be his daily driver and weekend show truck. “My good friend Robbie Bryant from Keg Media talked me into building the truck,” Grant says. “Without him, it wouldn’t have been possible!”

Having been raised in a GM family, Grant envisioned a “badass truck” that he would be able to proudly drive and inspire others with. As it was his first build, the nerves actually allowed him to focus on obtaining all the parts needed to complete it by his deadline. “The hardest part of the build was getting all the parts in on time. It was just a big waiting game, but once that was done, the easiest part of the build was getting all the work done.”

Grant went with a clean red and white color combo for the Sierra. He fitted it with a set of 22x14 American Force Alpha wheels powder coated candy red that were matched to an aggressive set of 375/45R22 Nitto Trail Grappler M/T tires and is one of Grant’s favorite mods. “I love the finish,” he describes. “It just really pops!” Also powder coated candy red was the McGaughy’s lift kit, which gives it a unifying look. yler Deveney went into his first real build not expecting too much. He knew he wanted to fix up his stock 2014 Toyota Tundra, but never thought it would become the ride it is now. “At first it was a daily driver and the more I put into it, I found myself driving it less and less,” Deveney describes. “By the time I was done, it was nothing more than a weekender.” Nicknamed Devil’s Advocate, the truck was only going to be displayed at local shows, but the more haters told him that he’d never make it anywhere with the build, the more Deveney was inspired to create a SEMA-worthy truck that would be admired by thousands. Because he was so determined to prove his naysayers wrong, Deveney had to go out and get a different daily driver to make sure the Tundra got the attention it needed to make it a statement rig. “I told myself that if I was going to do this, I was going to do it right,” he affirms. “I went out and searched for the best of the best when it came to parts and mods, making sure everything was perfect.” To make the Tundra stand out, he switched up the stock black base color and went with an “eyepopping” green and black abstract wrap by the crew at PG NOLA, which is just one of the truck’s highlights. The exterior also benefits from Magnum bumpers, Go Recon third brake light, Winjet rear tail light built by plainANsimple by design, and Trux Tech Lighting light bars and under glow and all-color changing halos by MW Customs. 192

A 6” Pro Comp Stage 2 raised to 8” with Pro Comp Pro Runner upper control arms provide it with its towering stance, while Coachbuilder tie rods ends, Atlas leaf springs, Hellwig rear sway bar and Pro Comp rear track bars and runner shocks all combine give him confidence when he takes it off-road. It sits on 37X13.50R20 Mark Ma Dakar MT tires wrapped around 20” TIS Wheels. Power gains are a result of a Gibson exhaust, S&B cold air intake and a Bully Dog programmer. When it was finally ready and perfect according to Deveney’s standards, it was showcased at the 2015 SEMA Show. “The public

loved it!” he describes. “It was a huge eye catcher, and my bumpers from Magnum were the talk of the town! My truck helped them sell tons of them. Whenever someone was hesitant of buying them, they showed them my Tundra and it was all over…they fell in love.” Despite being his fist build, Deveney proved past haters wrong and was able to achieve his goal of building a badass show-worthy truck. Currently, Devil’s Advocate is enjoying its time with another owner, while Deveney is hard at work building a 2016 Chevy 1500 he’ll call Poseidon. “I’ve learned that not everyone is going to like what you do or build. That doesn’t matter as long as you’re happy. There are a lot of people who get jealous and want to do what you do, but don’t want to put in the time, hard work and dedication it takes to make it.”

e’re used to featuring some of the biggest and baddest trucks with the most tricked out suspension and biggest wheel and tire combinations on the pages of LFTD& LVLD. Last year we had the opportunity to work on the just released 2016 Toyota Tacoma as a last minute SEMA Show project to see what we could do with it in a limited amount of time. It was designed to be a conservative-looking Tacoma upfitted with an Overland look and functionality. Neither a monstrous 10” suspension lift nor massive 40” mud tires were outfitted on this rig. Instead, we intentionally started gathering parts and components that would enhance the capabilities of the Tacoma’s legendary off-road prowess, but still be mild-mannered enough as a daily driver. This Tacoma will let you enjoy a weekend off-roading adventure at Dead Horse Point in Utah and get you back safely on the highway for your drive home.

crapin the Coast went down June 24-26th and brought out some of the hottest customs around! Held in Biloxi, Mississippi, at the Coast Coliseum, the show is the south’s largest, premier car, truck and bike show that started back in 2002. To celebrate 14 years, the show’s promoters pulled out all the stops for this one and it was their biggest show to date! Scrapin had something for everyone - from radical bikes to massive trucks, to hopping rides and slammed vehicles, and everything in between! It was a super hot weekend, which didn’t deter guests from enjoying one of the most anticipated car events of the year! The show also had many contests for guests to enjoy, including the hydraulics competiton, stereo competition, burnout competition, DJ and bikini competition and more. The weekend fun kicked off on Friday night with the Cruisin’ for a Cause pre-party at Orangutang’s Daiquiris & Bar that raised money for a chosen family in need. But all the action started off with a blast on Saturday morning, when the day’s festivities began when DJ Gat Low started spinning all the latest jams.
