In this no-appointment process, please bring your library card and cell phone. If you do not have a cell phone, this is ok. There will be instructions outside of the library to help. Your full library card number will help ensure a quick and easy transaction!

Returns

For the safety of our patrons and our staff, returns are accepted only during our curbside pick-up hours. This is done so that we are able to monitor the return bins and safely quarantine items.

Virtual Browsing Miss browsing the library collections? While there’s no substitute for wandering the stacks and browsing displays, there are online options at duluthlibrary.org! Check out the reading lists under Explore>Adults, Explore>Teens, and Explore>Children For reading recommendations, try NoveList under Research>Databases Ask for recommendations by going to the Research>Ask a Librarian and chat or email a librarian. When stopping for curbside pick-up, check out the browsing display in the Superior Street windows for new books and special displays. Just let a staff member know if you want to check one out.


A Fall Reading Program for all ages Tuesday, September 1 - Saturday, October 31 sign up at duluthlibrary.org

Youth:

Sign up for the Duluth Public Library’s Fall into Reading Program by visiting duluthlibrary.org starting Tuesday, September 1, 2020. To participate, click on the Fall into Reading button and create a Beanstack account or use your Beanstack account from past reading programs. Log reading time, write book reviews, and complete activities to earn badges. With every badge you earn, you win electronic tickets for a grand prize drawing of your choice. Submit your tickets by October 31, 2020 to win. Grand prizes for the Birth-PreK (0-5) are a $25.00 Barnes & Noble gift card, a $25.00 Legacy Toys gift card and a $25.00 Zenith Bookstore gift certificate. Grand prizes for the Kids (K-5th grade) are a $25.00 Barnes & Noble gift card , a $25.00 Legacy Toys gift card, and a $25.00 Zenith Bookstore gift certificate. Grand prizes for the Teens (6-12th grade) are a $25.00 Barnes & Noble gift card, a $25.00 Zenith Bookstore gift certificate, and a $25.00 Target gift card.

Adults:

Log your reading time—including audiobooks—to earn badges and electronic tickets that you’ll enter into drawings for five different prize packages—each include a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card. Adults that register will be entered into a drawing for a prize package that includes a gift card to Dairy Queen! You can also win other fun prizes by writing a few book reviews and completing our “FALL INTO READING” activity. Grand Prize for Adults is a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card

Puzzles! Spending more time at home lately? Love a good puzzle? Did you know that puzzles are available for check out from the Duluth Public Library? Place your hold and get yours with curbside pick-up.

Story Strolls

Read a picture book page-by-page as you walk through the park. Take home a free book, craft kit, and other activities to continue enjoying the story together at home. This socially-distanced version of storytime will get your family reading and moving. For three Story Stroll events this fall the Parks Department will be there for Popup Play! Curbside Crafts

Available during Curbside Pick-up hours—while supplies last!

Take & Make for Kids

Look for Curbside Crafts for kids in September and October. These kits are created for kids in grades K-5 and will be a variety of fun & creative activities. Future kits may include Air Dry Clay, Sticker Art, Brushbot Robots, and other creative/STEM learning fun!

Take & Make for Teens Teens are invited to register on our events calendar at duluthlibrary. org starting on Monday, September 7, for one of 50 Curbside Craft kits. Specifically for Duluth teens, these kits will include all the supplies needed for 5 creative activities including an infinity cube fidget, rainbow zen garden/sand art, blackout poetry, bookmarks galore, and a journaling/ sketchbook kit. Follow the dplteen Instagram for pictures and more. Kits can be picked up during curbside starting Monday, September 21. Made possible with contributions from the Duluth Library Foundation. Take & Make for Adults Create your own wildlife feeder! Learn about Minnesota’s wildlife while painting recycled tires into beautiful masterpieces. This DIY project is something you can use year round to feed your wildlife right outside your door. Adults can get this take and make craft kit starting Monday, October 5, during curbside hours. Available while supplies last. Funded in part from the Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Magazines for (almost) every interest

When you’re placing holds for books and movies, don’t forget you can also request magazines. There are over 200 titles to choose from. For directions on how to place a hold on a specific issue (or to have a librarian assist you), contact the reference desk at 730-4200/option 5.

Virtual Learning Resources

If you’re learning from home, find your online research library at duluthlibrary. org/databases. For one-stop shopping, go to eLIBRARYMN.org, where you will find a user-friendly way to search many subject areas for your grade level. Tutoring and skills-building help is also at hand thanks to a subscription to BrainfuseHelpNow. Find it at duluthlibrary.org/databases Pebble Go/Pebble Go Next Parents and teachers, are you looking for an interactive learning site for young children? Newly added to eLIBRARYMN resources this year is PebbleGo/PebbleGo Next. Modules include Animals and Biographies in PebbleGo for grades K-3, and U.S. States and American Indian History in PebbleGo Next for grades 3-5. Both include articles, ready-made activities, and literacy supports including read-along audio and word-byword highlighting. eLIBRARYMN.org or duluthlibrary.org/databases Tumblebooks For a collection of interactive books for youth in grades K-6, take a look at TumbleBook Library. Duluth Public Library is a tax-supported service of the City of Duluth

The Library Port program connects students to one-on-one online homework help, dozens of research databases, e-books, electronic magazines, and so much more. Parents can easily opt-in to this program with the form from ISD 709. Existing library cards will not be replaced by the Library Port card. libraryport.org
