How to Participate:

Youth participants earn a free book when they complete the 10-hour reading challenge, and will be entered into the grand prize drawings. Every adult who registers will be entered into weekly drawings for a $5 gift card to Caribou Coffee and a DPL mug. Participants can earn entries into additional monthly drawings, as well as the grand prize drawing.

Prizes:

Not only will we be giving away prizes at select library events, but we’re also having random drawings for small prizes and library swag throughout the winter. We have some incredible Grand Prizes that we’re giving to our winners this year: • 2- $50 Gift cards to Barnes & Noble (Birth-Preschool) • 2- $ $50 Gift cards to Barnes & Noble (Kids) • 2- $ $50 Gift cards to Barnes & Noble (Teens) • 1-$50 Gift card to the Zenith Bookstore (Adults) • 1-$50 Gift card to the Bookstore at Fitger’s (Adults)

Prizes must be picked up no later than March 9.

Out of Town?

Not a problem! Time and activities can be logged as you go or all-at-once, any time until February 23. Don’t forget— audiobooks are great for family trips! Check out the Libby app to download ebooks and audiobooks to your smartphone.

Baby & Toddler Storytime, Weekly

Coding for Kids: Beginner Level

Events for the littlest library-goers focus on building a solid reading foundation with songs, rhymes, fingerplays, and learning activities.

20 minutes of simple stories and fingerplays for infants to 3-year-olds, with a grown-up. Meet in the Youth Services area. Every Wednesday 10:15a

Preschool Storytime, Weekly

Designed for school-aged kids and their grownups, these events range from arts and crafts to games, movies, learning, and interactive fun. Kids under 8 must be with an adult. Drop in to try out various methods of coding! We will have coding robots, laptop coding using free educational websites, and hands-on coding activities using everyday materials. Recommended for grades K-5. Sat. January 19 1:00-3:00p Green Room

30 minutes of stories, songs and fingerplays for 3-to-5year-olds. Grown-ups may attend or may treat this as a first independent activity for their preschoolers. Meet in the Youth Services area. Every Wednesday 11:15a

Crafternoon for Kids

A Duluth police officer will join us and read stories in the Youth Services area. Held every other week. Wed. January 2, 16, 30 3:45p Wed. February 13, 27 3:45p

Drop in for a fun make-and-take craft project. No experience or sign-up required! Recommended for grades K-5. Sat. February 23 1:00-3:00p Youth Services Drop in and kick off the library’s winter reading program with the Creativity Tank! Emoji Day

Drop in and join us for emoji fun! Create emoji crafts, and stick around for the showing of The Emoji Movie at 11:30. An emoji scavenger hunt will be in the Youth Services department all day. Sat. February 16 10:30-11:30a Green Room

LEGO® at the Library

Drop in! Bring your imagination and the library will supply the LEGO®! Recommended for grades K-5. Come watch The LEGO Batman Movie in the afternoon! Sat. January 26 10:30-11:30a Green Room

Bring your besties to the library for crafts, to smash the pinata of love, decorate and eat cookies, and consume lots of chocolate. The Duluth Paranormal Society is the only group to have 48 hours of unfettered access to the Nopeming Sanatorium, a historic Duluth building that’s been featured on the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures.
