9 to thrive
conference
Emma Aitkenhead GRAPHIC DESIGNER (KEYSBOROUGH) A few members of the Pod Creative team attended the 9 to Thrive conference on Friday the 24th of August. The day was jam-packed with interviews, panel sessions, workshops, immersive brand experiences, life lessons, insights, and inspiration. A few speakers on the day that really stood out were: •
Eleanor Pendleton founder of Gritty Pretty, a woman killing it in the tech world.
•
Lola Berry, Nutritionist & Author. She was down-to-earth and raw with honesty.
•
Emmylou MacCarthy, a TV Presenter and Social Media star who extrudes confidence and positive vibes.
The place was buzzing, the music was pumping and food trucks were hustling. The day was a whirlwind of inspiring panel discussions, in-depth conversations and fun dance moves. We all left the conference feeling motivated, excited and inspired. Thanks for putting on a good show #businesschicks.

INNOVATION
a new way of WORDS BY
working
Alex Nhem GRAPHIC DESIGNER So gone are the days of isolated pods, with the introduction of Activity Based Working (ABW). ABW is a new age way of working, moving away from traditional pods of teams and designated work stations, for collaborative spaces and ‘hot desks’ that encourage movement to specific areas depending on the project, group and type of work that is at hand. Since the revamp of I.T., the workspace has become far livelier. I.T has become a hub of collaboration.
By tearing down walls and creating a light and open space, an office is created that encourages productivity and creates opportunities to collaborate with coworkers that you may not have before or who are working on simiarl projects. The designated quiet spaces and focus pods allow those who need to work without distractions to do so, without the phone calls and in silence. The I.T floor has become a refreshing, flexible and collaborative team space.

YOU ARE AT FED SQUARE My team was in charge of designing the Skype for business room. The Revamp competition had its challenges, having no prior experience in designing a room I certainly encouraged the help of my team for exciting ideas that would inspire a room based on Federation Square and Flinders Street Station. The room has 6 clocks inspired by Flinders Street Station, with 6 different DuluxGroup time zones labelled by their Location eg. Clayton, Melbourne. Geometric shapes taken from the design of the Federation Square buildings sit across the green whiteboard walls. The TV feature wall uses Porter’s Capsian Sea with a rough texture bringing the room to life. We named the room Federation Station which I think fits the simple abstract style of the room.

YOU ARE IN PICCADILLY CIRCUS For the meeting room collaboration project my team was assigned Piccadilly Circus, famous meeting point in London (a city I also absolutely LOVE). For the walls, red seemed Like an appropriate colour but we thought it might be too harsh for our room. We chose Dulux Mystification blue that we drew out of the union jack and used that for the feature wall and paired it with Dulux Tranquil retreat grey for the whiteboard wall. We believe these tones would give the room a cool feeling as London is very known for its cooler weather. The hero element in the room is a circular decal of the union jack on the table and to compliment this we decorated the room with picture frames showing the city’s meeting point and other british-style elements to bring the room together.

YOU ARE IN SHIBUYA CROSSING
PICTURED: Quiet Zone in full swing, a space without the phone calls and hustle & bustle of the collaborative zone.
The Shibuya meeting room was created to reflect the Shibuya crossing and the abundance of people who meet at the space daily. My team had the challenge of creating the look and feel of Shibuya through plants, colours and artwork that reflected the movement and culture of the meeting place. I really enjoyed working with my team as each member contributed great ideas and worked together to problem solve budgeting and space issues that we faced when designing the room.

YOU ARE AT TIMES SQUARE We wanted to project the feeling of standing in the middle of Times Square and no matter where you turn, there is something to look at. This is reflected by the placement of the vibrant signage hung up around the room in contrast with the colours used. There are many subtle and recognisable references to help you feel like you are in New York. The red chairs represent The Glowing Ruby-Red Stairs of TKTS to the Statue of Liberty memorabilia. There is a lot to take in, so take your time in the concrete jungle!

YOU ARE AT THE EIFFEL TOWER The Eiffel Tower was chosen by DGIT as it is a central meeting place in not only Paris but the world. We chose to highlight the beautiful pastel colour’s that surround the Eiffel Tower by using ‘Dulux Duck Egg Blue’ Colour as a feature wall. The wall is accompanied by a tall triangular shelf that represents the height and shape of the beautiful landmark. On it you will find pastel colour’s and flowers representing the lush gardens along with a dual drink dispenser for refreshments. A large Eiffel tower decal is displayed on one of the two drawable walls with a French bicycle. We hope you enjoy this snippet of Paris in DuluxGroup and walk in saying ‘Ooooh la la!’.

THE CHALLENGE

WORDS BY
Abbey Brady GRAPHIC DESIGN - TEAM LEAD ABW stands for Activity Based Working and it has revamped DuluxGroup I.T. If you are yet to see it, be sure to visit Head Office Clayton Level 1. You will notice the change as soon as you set foot through the doors. We have implemented hot desking in a modern form. With motorized flexible stand-up desks, colourful imaginative writable walls and collaborative & quiet zones… DGIT is reborn into 2018!!! Another valuable asset of this change for I.T is the transformation of old offices made for 1 person and evolving them to creative, exciting and tech-smart meeting rooms for 1-6 people. The new meeting rooms model skype for business and optional collaborative meeting spaces for all of I.T to book. With change, comes confusion and questions. PodCreative’s skills were utilized to design the roll out and implementation of this drastic change of environment and the way I.T work. Initially, PodCreative designed the visual communication around the change and why it is happening to help gain insight of the thoughts of I.T Employee’s. During the change Pod were vital in communicating out how I.T were to go about their work for 2 weeks without being on level 1. In this time, the designer’s worked on a small passport book for the opening day and future for the employee’s and visitors to understand the new space and its new areas. Wayfinding was included as a design outcome for the opening day. PodCreative were briefed the task of visually educating I.T staff of how to use their new space and the etiquette guidelines included. The challenge was that individuals will no longer have their own allocated desks and employee’s will move around the area’s throughout their working day. Therefore, the staff needed to know clearly what zone they were in and where they needed to go to find someone or a meeting room. The result included a colour palette that derived from the new paint colours chosen, this bought together the theme of the new working spaces which include Collaborative Zones, Touch Down Zones, Quiet Zones, Meeting Rooms, Meeting Booths and Focus Pods. Head Signage and Table stickers have been used to communicate which zone you are in. The next phase will be signage for each of the Meeting Rooms and a welcome to DGIT sign in our new ‘Circular Key’. If you haven’t already be sure to come down and check out our new environment, any member of PodCreative can take you on a private tour of our new home!

GRAPHIC DESIGNER (KEYSBOROUGH) There have been a few changes happening while being on-site at B&D Group. It has been many months in the making but B&D have launched a new, modern website. I assisted the marketing team during this period with providing them with new images or graphics for the new site. It looks fantastic – check it out www.bnd.com.au You may notice when you receive your next staff voucher booklet that they look a little different, that’s because they are! The vouchers have had a slight facelift with a fresh new front cover and new the back of the booklet include new B&D vouchers. Keep your eyes peeled! I recently had the opportunity to work on the Sales Cycle Pack and supporting material with the help of the Pod Creative. It was a very short time frame but we all came together to meet the due date. It was great collaborating with B&D State Sales Representatives and Marketing Team on this project.

Sheri Tantawy G R A P H I C D E S I G N E R ( PA D STO W ) We’ve been involved in some very exciting projects this year, 2018. One of them is Selleys Paint Accessories which has seen Padstow and Clayton designers work together, collaboratively and remotely to roll out numerous packaging and branding products, all from brief to completion. The trade brand “Smooth” was developed over several short months and included 12 brushes, with a wooden handle and coloured filament. The coloured filament is a new addition to some of the business’ sub brands paint brushes, not only giving the brush itself a unique identity but appealing visually to the end consumer. Die cut windows in the brush holders have allowed for this particular design feature to not only stand out on the shelves but to initiate interaction through the sensation of touch. Both RotaCota and Dulux Accessories received a packaging facelift that imbues modernity, simplicity and cleanliness. After reviewing our process for this large multi-faceted project, the team developed the Perfect Packaging Brief, created to be tailored to every individual projects needs. When we roll out a large number of sku’s efficiency and accuracy are two major characteristics required to ensure on time delivery and flawless print which ensures minimal interruptions to the distribution agenda. The Perfect Packaging Brief is now an integral fixture of our design process, through its implementation the success of delivery has improved exponentially, meaning all future projects will benefit from peace of mind in a single brief.

improving the
card management experience WORDS BY
Shanie Carnie GRAPHIC DESIGN - PRODUCTION LEAD We were approached by Card Management Services to redesign the OurPlace page. Although all the processes to complete claims were in place and information was accessible to DuluxGroup employees, the way it was communicated made the process and tools rather confusing. PodCreative’s challenge was to develop a simple design that would direct employees through various paths to complete these administrative tasks efficiently. By incorporating colours and various pages, employees can make choices that will reveal the relevant content. Employees can also quickly identify how to complete administrative tasks with the processes that appear on specific pages. We hope that everyone finds the new OurPlace page easy to navigate and visually appealing to utilise all the tools to make their jobs easier to complete.

demo kits
Ashleigh Bewicke GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Over the past 6 months we have designed kits end-to-end for Dulux Wash & Wear, Dulux Ceiling, Intergrain and are in the process of designing an Aquanamel kit. Demo Kits have proved themselves to be a valuable tool in sales and training for our products. The purpose of these kits is to give them to the stores to help their team members understand, use & demonstrate the products themselves so they can inform consumers “WHY” they should buy Duluxgroup products over other, sometimes more affordable competitor products. An example of materials we design that go in these kits are: • The box itself • Small training booklets (that fit in a Bunnings Apron!) • Training cards • Shopper research flyers, which show a breakdown of statistics on shoppers and what they want & need, in a visual & easy to read format. • Tear pads • Magnets • Mousepads • Posters • Stickers for product comparisons

Allana Carnie M U LT I M E D I A D E S I G N E R PodCreative have had the pleasure of filling their pipeline with some clever and creative projects for Yates. By brainstorming various concepts before each project was put into production, we were able to establish unique designs that would be shaped into strong storyboards. The first project was to promote the Yates Thrive range for the Spring season with a step by step animation on how each product in the range targets specific plant needs. We created a series of 6 short 15 second clips for Yates Thrive Natural liquid and pellet SKU’s. The series consisted of 3 liquid products’ Roses & Flowers, Citrus & Fruit and Vegies & Herbs, and a pellet version of each product. These short videos had a stop motion feel using created graphics – with an abstract approach to demonstrating the products effects on the plants. These videos help to show the simplicity of using each product, and were displayed on Facebook, Instagram and various sites.

podcreative take on

Ashleigh Bewicke & Allana Carnie GRAPHIC DESIGNER The theme of this year’s Decorative Retail & Trade conferences were inspired by Dulux’s Take on Anything campaign. After the launch of the new Dulux Take on Anything ad, we created 2 separate hype reels to celebrate both Retail and Trade’s 2018 highlights. With a sketchy hand drawn style based on the animation of the Take on Me music clip, we found a creative way to tell the story of Decorative for both conferences. Our team also designed the Logo for the conference which ties in nicely with the theme of Take on Anything.

Luxafloor explores WORDS BY
Norway
Ashleigh Bewicke GRAPHIC DESIGNER This year the giveaway for the Dulux Luxafloor FLOORING SEASON promotion was a trip of a lifetime – a holiday for two to the Northern Lights in Norway! We absolutely love this promotion and being involved from start to finish. Initially meeting with those involved from the Protective Coatings team & Switch marketing during the first brain storming stages and making a decision on where the holiday will be as well as the second-tier prizes to suite the destination. Being involved from the very first stage allows us as creatives to start brain storming ideas in our mind before we are given an official brief. This year we created a double sided flyer & a 6-sided box design, both including an eye-catching creative with prize break downs and terms and conditions. These materials will be displayed in Dulux PC Trade stores. To support these communications we will also be designing Digital Screen graphics and an EDM Advertisement; which is a really great way to target those people that aren’t necessarily in stores.
