WELCOME Welcome to our 2016 Spring season! We can’t quite believe it’s 2016 either, but something must be in the air as this season is all about LOVE – a theme celebrated across three of our four Ensemble productions. We begin the year by welcoming back Kenny Miller with a new production of Agatha Christie’s brilliant thriller Witness for the Prosecution, but as the winter months begin to fade the love bug bites. We kick off with a collaboration with young Glasgow-based company Noisemaker, and a story of true friendship in Little Red and the Wolf. Following this, we invite you to fall in love with John Kolvenbach’s hilarious and brilliantly observed family comedy Lovesong, and then finish the season with one of Shakespeare’s best-loved romances, Much Ado About Nothing. A little less romantic, but certainly no less exciting, is Experiment 01: Abandoned, a newly devised piece by our combined 14-16 & 16-18 youth theatre groups to be performed in Dundee’s famous Mills Observatory at the end of June. Spring also sees us throwing our arms around Scottish Dance Theatre as we welcome

or visit: dundeerep.co.uk scottishdancetheatre.com them home from their trip to Mexico, and see them premiering their new work Process Day alongside Dreamers in February. 2016 is Scottish Dance Theatre's 30th anniversary year, so keep your eyes peeled for other events that celebrate this landmark birthday. As always, we bring you a wide variety of visiting drama, dance, comedy and music (all of which we love!) including some familiar and some not so familiar faces. Highlights include one-off performances by the musical legend Barbara Dickson, the extraordinary dance talent that is Claire Cunningham, and world-class comedy from Ed Byrne and Shazia Mirza. Alongside these well-known names we are delighted to welcome three stand-out productions from the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe: Fishamble’s Underneath; Le Gateau Chocolat’s exceptional Black; and the National Theatre of Scotland’s smash hit, Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour. So – whether it’s love you’re looking for, or just a one night stand, make sure you come and find it here at the Rep this Spring. Jemima Levick Artistic Director, Dundee Rep Theatre 

MARK THOMAS: TRESPASS

Fri 4 March at 7.30pm (Dundee Rep's Bonar Hall)

Trespass carries on from where Mark's previous show 100 Acts of Minor Dissent left off. It is his usual odd mix of theatre, stand up, activism, a dash of journalism and dollop of mayhem. Mark asks the question: If the ramblers of the 1930s were here now what would they do to open up the cities? How do we turn the skyscrapers and corporate squares into our playgrounds? He sets out to try and carve a small space in the urban world where mischief and random chance can lurk. No one knows where this show is going to end up.

Love Song is an offbeat romantic comedy, centred on three members of a small family – oddball Beane, his uptight sister Joan and her outspoken husband, Harry. When Beane’s poverty-stricken apartment is burgled, he meets the woman of his dreams, Molly. Suddenly his world is transformed and he finds himself exhilarated by the simple pleasures of being alive: the taste of sandwiches, the colours of sunlight, the warmth of human touch. Joan is baffled to find her brother so blissfully happy, and tries to unravel the story behind Beane’s mysterious new love. Funny, charming and wonderfully touching, Love Song is a rhapsody to the power of love in all its forms and a delightful journey along the perilous edge of hope and reality.

BARBARA DICKSON Scotland’s best selling female album artist of all time Sun 1 May at 7.30pm In this special acoustic performance, Barbara explores her catalogue of songs at an intimate level with the support of her pianist Nick Holland. The pair let the words and melodies take centre stage as they perform a wonderful range of material that draws on Barbara’s folk roots, her latest exploration of the songs of Gerry Rafferty, and some of her classic hit records.

“There’s no doubting the compelling presence and prodigious talent of Barbara Dickson – renowned recording artist, wide ranging theatre and television recognition, Olivier award winner and owner of an exceptional voice.” Folk Words

Nick joined Barbara’s touring band in the mid 2000s after working with Troy Donockley in the Maddy Prior Band. He also sang on Full Circle, the first album to feature the style of music Barbara now performs.

“Barbara Dickson is a very special talent” – "You want to bottle her voice – it's perfect" Sir George Martin

Barbara recently started working as a duo with Nick where she plays guitar and piano, and Nick, keyboards. They have performed this way in numerous venues including cathedrals, festivals and theatres and developed an intimate rapport with each other and the audience. They say that it’s a different experience to working with the bigger band, but just as enjoyable and gives the music ‘breathing space’.

"I love Barbara Dickson. From the very first time I heard her, her voice just nailed me to the wall! Her voice has that kind of smoothness... she's just a one off." Billy Connolly

based on the book by Spike Milligan

It’s back by popular demand! Big Telly’s smash-hit stage production of Spike Milligan’s Puckoon returns for an allIreland and UK tour in Spring/Summer 2016. The show’s sell-out 2009 and remounted 2011 tour had audiences all across Ireland screaming with laughter at its Goonish blend of theatrical anarchy, musical wit, and impossible plot.

directed by Zoë Seaton music by Paul Boyd

Ireland 1922, and the Ulster Boundary Commission has drawn the new border straight through the small town of Puckoon. With the church separated from its own graveyard and drink now thirty percent cheaper in one corner of the pub, life in the newly divided village will never be the same again. Based on the book by Spike Milligan, this comic masterpiece is an irreverent and hilarious story which takes the mick, celebrates the absurd, and paints a picture of a simple life that borders on the ridiculous.

SHAZIA MIRZA: THE KARDASHIANS MADE ME DO IT Sat 28 May at 7.30pm My mum can’t find me anyone to marry. My friend Matthew looks at me with great concern and says, “You’re not thinking of becoming a Jihadi Bride are you?” Would I do that? The weather in Britain isn’t great, and the sunsets and landscape in Syria are meant to be very romantic… I’d get a husband, wouldn’t have to work, and would definitely get a place in heaven. Yes I’d miss my hair straighteners and hot pants, but that’s a small price to pay. Revered, applauded, loved and reviled Shazia Mirza is an award-winning comedian and columnist, as much recognised for her literary prowess as she is for her unique comedic talents. She has appeared on Have I Got News For You and is a regular panellist on The Wright Stuff, Comedy Central’s The World Stands Up, NBC’s Last Comic Standing and BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show. Tickets (fees apply*): £16 Concessions: £14, Friends £13, Dundee Student Pass £5. Group discount/ Standby available.

The war in the battlefield is over. The war between Beatrice and Benedick has just begun. Young couple Hero and Claudio believe nothing can damage their love. Beatrice and Benedick believe nothing would ever make them fall in love. Love is the victim when gossip and lies are the weapons and things take an abrupt turn, plunging from comedy to tragedy, as the sinister intrigues of Don John threaten to tear lovers and friends apart. Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare’s most frequently performed plays that gives us one of Shakespeare’s wittiest comedy of words, loyalty and the search for love. Schools workshops and Production Pack also available. Please call Creative Learning for more information on 01382 342660.

OUR LADIES OF PERPETUAL SUCCOUR adapted by Lee Hall, from the novel The Sopranos by Alan Warner directed by Vicky Featherstone Music Arranger and Supervisor Martin Lowe Image by Chris Auld Thu 30 June – Sat 2 July at 7.30pm Matinee: Sat 2 July at 2.30pm Preview: Thu 30 June at 7.30pm BSLI: Fri 1 July at 7.30pm Audio Descibed: Sat 2 July at 2.30pm Adapted from Alan Warner's brilliant novel about six girls on the cusp of change, when love, lust, pregnancy and death all spiral out of control in a single day. Warner's blisteringly funny dialogue ends in fireworks (literally). A musical play about losing your virginity and finding yourself. Funny, Sad and Raucously Rude. A play about singing, sex and sambuca. A tribute to being young, lost and out of control, Our Ladies ... was a total sell out at the 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and subsequent tour. James Seabright presents

THINK NO EVIL OF US: MY LIFE WITH KENNETH WILLIAMS written and performed by David Benson

Fri 8 July at 7.30pm This classic one-man show unlocks the character of one of Britain's best-loved and most-missed entertainers. In this thrilling and hilarious tour de force we see Kenneth Williams at his funniest – and at his most badly behaved. David Benson’s uncanny impersonation was also heard in the acclaimed BBC Radio 4 series, The Private World of Kenneth Williams.

"Unforgettable and inspirational theatre." Independent on Sunday

Following its Fringe First winning debut at the Edinburgh Festival in 1996, Think No Evil Of Us played in the West End. Now it returns for a strictly limited twentieth anniversary tour in an updated version. The show continues to prove its enduring popularity both with audiences who loved Kenneth Williams and those who know nothing of his work.

"A masterpiece of comic timing." London Evening Standard

"Brilliant! A truly remarkable event." Mail on Sunday

This brilliantly performed semi-autobiographical show also reveals how David's unusual childhood led to an extraordinary connection with the Carry On star.

UNDERNEATH

written and performed by Pat Kinevane directed by Jim Culleton

Fringe First Award Winner 2015 Sat 9 July at 7.30pm Sticks and stones didn't break Her bones, but words and pointing crushed Her. Is Beauty really only skin deep? Does Ugliness hide somewhere deeper? Following the runaway international success of Forgotten and Silent, Fishamble presents Pat Kinevane’s third solo play, Underneath, directed by Jim Culleton. This stunning new play is a blackly comic, rich and vivid tale of a life lived in secret, a testament to the people who live on the fringes, under the nose of everyday life. It explores the surface, and what lies underneath. Fishamble is funded by The Arts Council, Dublin City Council and Culture Ireland. A post-show discussion will follow the performance.

Tickets (fees apply*): £12 Children/Schools £9, Dundee Student Pass £5. Group discount/Standby available.
