dR EDITOR’S LETTER
All-Star Guide to the Best in Tampa Bay 2009 Dear Reader, Had enough of “The Best of the Bay”? Tired of coordinated selections of the epitome of extraordinary excess? Tired of hearing someone tell you what you should think is “The Best”? Well, here it is: The duPont REGISTRY™ ALL-STARS. Starting with Tampa Bay’s own Major League ALL-STAR, Evan Longoria, and going all-the-way for extra innings selection, The Watercolour Grille, we introduce our own ALL-STAR—Best in the Bay list and have bestowed upon them a “bespoke” sports term that helps you, the reader, understand our enthusiasm for each of our first-round draft choices. Please take the time to read about each of our ALLSTARS and let us know what you think! If you have a better accolade, let us know (tldupont@dupontregistry.com). If you have your own personal ALL-STAR, let us know. That way you will be one of the duPont REGISTRY™ scouting team as we continue our quest to find next year’s ALL-STARS.
Thomas L. duPont Publisher
P.S. There is one locker room connection that you need to know about. A lot of our home-team favorites (in all sports) are clients of Boulevard Customs, our Heavy Hitter selection. Boulevard Customs is an operating partner of duPont REGISTRY™ and is based in the dupont REGISTRY™ headquarters. If you want to learn more about ALL-STAR cars and Boulevard Customs, get up early on the third Saturday of the month and head out for Cars and Coffee at the duPont REGISTRY™/Boulevard Customs Headquarters on Tech Drive in St. Petersburg (Feather Sound area) from 7:00 to 9:00 am. Be sure to bring your own automotive ALL-STAR and your entire crew of bench-warmers, if you can get them up that early. After you enjoy some coffee and a visual automotive extravaganza, you still have time for chores before the afternoon sports event starts. Hooray! On the Cover: Evan Longoria Tampa Bay Rays third baseman, hits another one out of the park. Evan was named Rookie of the Year in 2008. Keeping the accolades coming, he has been named Player of the Week twice and Player of the Month once—that’s just through May of this season. 10 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay

Old World Pizzas The chef only speaks Italian and he’s usually busy deftly handling what looks like a long flat shovel—not for the garden—but for making pizzas, cooked to perfection inside a very hot, wood-fired brick oven. The oven was hand-crafted in Italy by a Neapolitan family who have been in the business for over 100 years. Pizzaiolo Bavaro is the real deal, an authentic Old World pizza restaurant with fresh ingredients, dough made on premises and a nice selection of Italian wine. It’s the vision of Dan Bavaro, who moved his family from New Jersey to Tampa to open the restaurant after vacationing in the area for several years. Located in the heart of downtown Tampa’s business district. 514 Franklin Street, Tampa; 813-868-4440 or www.pizzaiolobavaro.com.
Waterfront Chic A turquoise blue and lime green color scheme, low-hanging decorative lights and a gorgeous view of Old Tampa Bay give AquaKnox in the new Westin Hotel a look of sophisticated glamour. The fine-dining restaurant, located in Rocky Point, can also be found in Atlanta and Las Vegas, but only in Tampa Bay can you step outside to take in the view of the Westin’s own private beach. The menu showcases great seafood selections such as Mesquite grilled king salmon and black bean sweet chili glazed grouper, along with an extensive raw bar. For a unique experience, book a private table inside the circular wine room complete with a waterfall behind one of the clear Plexiglas walls. 7627 West Courtney Campbell Causeway, Tampa; 813-675-8700 or www.aquaknox.net.
Tropical Boutique Tucked next to a string of beach shops on Clearwater Beach, Collections at Sandpearl stands out like a little jewel with its lovely collection of designer names for men and women. You’ll find Tommy Bahama, Bugatchi, Nat Nast, Karen Kane, Jams World, and more. Beautiful 100-percent silk beach cover-ups by Debbie Katz are elegant and delicate enough for evening-wear. Check out the fun Mad by Design purses decorated with mother-of-pearl— each one a little different. There are also one-of-a-kind necklaces by local artist Paula Pappas. The new shop is part of the luxurious Sandpearl resort-restaurant-condo complex, but it’s a stand-alone with a front door on Mandalay Avenue. Definitely not just for tourists. 500 Mandalay Avenue, Clearwater Beach; 727-674-4149 or www.sandpearl.com.

Home-Grown Flavors Philadelphia has its Philly cheesesteak; Tampa has its Cubans. And the Floridian has one of the best hot-pressed Cuban sandwiches with a side of black beans to be found. The restaurant, a long-time landmark in Treasure Island, has a new sister spin-off in the heart of the Westshore district of Tampa thanks to Harold Seltzer, the founder and former president/ owner of Sam Seltzer’s Steakhouse. Tampa’s version of the Floridian has a few twists on the traditional menu such as Con Leche coffee and a Cuban breakfast sandwich, fresh-squeezed orange juice, homemade French fries, salads, and chili, plus delivery to local businesses and catering for events. 4424 West Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa; 813-287-6662 or www.floridianrestaurant.com.
Stylish Comfort The sexy black sandal with the bling looked adorable but I couldn’t imagine using the word comfortable in the same sentence—until I tried it on. The leather was so soft and the arch support just right. Mary Finn smiled knowingly. As the owner of Shooz, a tiny new boutique on downtown St. Petersburg’s trendy Beach Drive, Mary specializes in mens’ and womens’ shoes that are the ultimate in cushioning, stability, luxury and style. There’s the Israeli-made Naot; Spanish-made Pikolinos; Onex; Sperry and Spira athletic footwear and Hobo International—“shoes and purses designed by women for women.” The hand-painted Anuschka purses from India are a work of art. 212 Beach Drive NE., St. Petersburg; 727-821-2200.
Garden Party A much-anticipated, greatly expanded version of Davis Anthony Home & Garden is now open in downtown St. Petersburg. This is a store that showcases the garden as an outdoor room for entertaining. Shop for attractive contemporary outdoor furniture and umbrellas; lots of unique decorative garden art accessories, and fountains of all kinds. A beautiful black baby grand sits in the middle of the showroom, ready to entertain during special events. Grab a bite to eat at the café and marketplace that offers Joffrey’s coffee, sandwiches, and pastry. Sit inside or street side at the outdoor courtyard that is expected to anchor this end of Beach Drive. Plant maintenance, design services, and delivery are available for downtown residents. 400 Beach Drive NE, St. Petersburg; 727-821-3244 or www.davisanthony.com. dR

HOMETOWN STYLE
Aasif Mandvi By Shannon Stewart
e’s best-known as the “Middle Eastern correspondent” on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, but in some Tampa circles he’s still “that kid from homeroom.” Before he heads back to the Bay later this summer for his high school reunion—25th, but who’s counting?—Mandvi is in Philadelphia wrapping up filming on M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, set for release in 2010. We caught up with him to chat about Miami Vice, John Wilson, and the tux he wore to the prom: white with baby-blue bowtie.
H
So you’re from Tampa? I came to Tampa in 1982 with my parents from England, and went to Chamberlain High. Do you have good memories of Chamberlain? Did you go to prom? I’d gone to an English boarding school— Harry Potter with brass knuckles, that’s the school I came from—and then I came to this American high school where not only were there females, which I had never seen before, but then you gotta ask one of them to go to the dance. I was pretty dopey about that stuff. So I asked a girl who didn’t know me very well. How was it? Did you enjoy the prom? We were there mostly with my theater friends, and the DJ played Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean. I know you’ll think I’m lying, but Michael Jackson was very pop28 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay
ular in the 1980s. There was a talent show at school a while earlier, and I’d done an impression of Michael Jackson. I learned the performance he did for Motown 25-remember that? You did that at the prom? Billie Jean came on and my friends pushed me out onto the dance floor in my white tuxedo with baby-blue bowtie and cummerbund. I did the entire Motown 25 piece. Every step. It was kind of cool. It was the one moment in my high school life when all the football players were like, “Who’s that guy?” For that moment I was popular. How’d you get The Daily Show gig? I got a call on August 9, 2006, and ini-
tially I wanted to turn it down—I thought they just wanted me to go down there in a turban and a funny accent. But I went and auditioned for Jon (Stewart) and he offered me the job right there. He said, “You’re on the show tonight.” I didn’t even have time to tell people. Did your interest in theater start at Chamberlain? It actually started back in England. I saw a movie called Bugsy Malone, and I said, “I want to do that, I want to be an actor.” My mother suggested I do some research, find out what local theaters were around. I looked up the local theater, Brighouse Children’s Theater, about a half-hour from where we lived, and wrote to them. It was a bunch of kids
my age. I wrote a play there that we produced and I directed—my first introduction to the world of theater. I was 13 or 14. So then, when we came to America a few years later, my mother was like, “Hey, you’ve always loved it— why don’t you take it as an elective at Chamberlain?” So I did. That’s when I really got involved in theater. What productions did you do at Chamberlain? Senior year we did M.A.S.H.—apparently there’s a TV show with the same name— I think that was totally a rip off. Anyway I played Walt, a Polish guy. I don’t think I realized at the time that he was Polish. There was no role for a brown guy so they were like, “Let’s just give him the whitest guy in the play.” And after Chamberlain? I went to USF and then left in ’89 to go and work at Disney in Orlando, with Streetmosphere—that was great. I got that job right out of school, my first professional acting gig, and I was fortunate to have it. You study improv in school, but then to do it on the street, on the Disney lot for five or six hours a day for a year—that gave me really great training, which I’ve now forgotten, but at the time it was really good. And then you left for New York. I was dating a girl and she was going to go to New York. When it came about as an option, I felt like I’d done what I was going to do in Florida. I had my SAG (Screen Actors Guild) card, I’d done theater, I’d done Miami Vice— You did Miami Vice? Yeah, when I was in school at USF. There used to be a theater on Fletcher, The Loft, which Wendy Leigh used to run— she’s now the director of education at the Patel Conservatory at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Once she had a casting director from Miami Vice at The Loft, and I did a monologue and she said, “Hey, you’d be great on the show.” I
played a doorman outside the Biltmore, and had two lines with Don Johnson. We shot it on Election Day in 1988, the year George Bush Senior got elected. And then New York. That was the next logical move for me. And then things really got cracking. Tons of auditions? I’d go and sing Corner of the Sky—I would do all of that. At that point you audition for everything. I got some regional theater, got some gigs. I did three months at the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, then off-off-Broadway... Your one-man show, Sakina’s Restaurant, was not only hugely popular but also highly critically acclaimed. Back in 1998 I took a bunch of characters I’d been developing and turned them into a one-man show, Sakina’s Restaurant. That show was an inspiration for a film, 7 to the Palace, which I wrote with Jonathan Bines. The movie is about Indian food—a heartwarming coming-ofage romantic comedy about Indian food. We’re in post-production right now. You also did a Broadway musical? Oklahoma. Never in a million-gazillion years did I think I would do a Broadway musical. But there I was. Sometimes things make sense in your world—and sometimes they don’t and they’re cool anyway. I did Sakina’s Restaurant, and Ismael Merchant came and saw me and offered me a role in this movie called The Mystic Masseur. Afterward I thought, "I've just done my first lead in a film-I should go to Hollywood, and Joel Schumacher will call!” I went to Hollywood and waited, but he didn’t call. But then I got a call from my agent in New York who said I had an audition for Oklahoma on Broadway. Which didn’t make sense at all—I don’t sing or dance. How was it? It was awesome. One of the most thrilling career experiences of my life. I did it for a
year. The other crazy thing is that Patrick Wilson was playing Curly, and he says, “I’m from Tampa, my dad is John Wilson, of the news,” and I was like, “Oh, that’s so cool!” So one night John Wilson came to see the show—and it was the same night Meryl Streep was there. I was so excited to see John Wilson—he might as well have been Gayle Sierens. I walked right past Meryl Streep and went over to John Wilson—“I’m a big fan. I love the way you report and talk about the news.” Later, I thought about my priorities—metaphorically, in my life, am I bypassing Meryl Streep to go say hi to John Wilson? So what else is going on? This summer you’re in The Proposal, with Sandra Bullock, you were in Ghost Town last year … I’m also developing a pilot about a dysfunctional self-help guru, and I’ve always got several writing projects going on—a book, another solo show, a play. And you’ve been in Philadelphia filming The Last Airbender, the M. Night Shyamalan movie. It’s based on a Nickelodeon cartoon, and I’m playing Commander Zhao. A bad guy? A villainous character. Is this your first bad guy? I played a Taliban mullah in Homebody/ Kabul, by Tony Kushner, and I didn’t have a big, big part but it was a really intense character. I know that people associate me with The Daily Show, which is a wonderful show to be associated with, but on some level as an actor it’s reductive. As an actor I’ve been doing dramatic roles and comedic roles for many years, so to me it doesn’t feel any different—it’s all the same thing: acting. At the end of the day, even the character on The Daily Show, even though he has the same name as me, he’s a character, he’s not me. For starters, he’s way better looking than I am. And he’s a lot funnier. dR

Accessories to Recharge your Room Best
By Gale Steves
Is your favorite room having the summer doldrums?
Think of an instant makeover with new accessories.
W
alk slowly through your home as though you are a visitor, and what do you really see? Did you detect those few spots on a chair, testimony of your dog’s resting area, or even a little wear and tear on a rug that you never noticed before? It is still summer, and you rationalize that this is the season to live outside. It is a good time to take off your sun-
glasses, and look carefully inside. Now is the time to take action! Give that weary room a totally new look with one new addition. Think of this as smart spending by investing in one signature piece instead of a whole room. If you do not believe this is possible, ask Ed Biggs of Interior Planning Services in St. Petersburg. He is the
Rule 1
master of great decorating disguises… from turning a ho-hum model room into one with eye appeal. Ed can perform magic for his private clients as well, bringing out their own personality in his designs with witty touches here and there. We turned to him to make some recommendations for recharging a bland space into something beautiful.
Add COLOR
A splash of unexpected color adds a new focal point to any room. “I like oversized, colorful accessories which bring new life to a quiet space,” says Biggs. The Daum Ultra-violet Magnum Vase (21 5/8inches tall) is a great piece because it changes color as the light around it does—from daytime to evening. Available at Neiman Marcus, Tampa for $16,060. www.daumusa.com
Rule 2
Add DRAMA
Avoid matchy-matchy furniture and give that room a bit of personality with a new hand-painted piece. He adds, “The eye goes to the unusual so do not be afraid of being eclectic.” Guildmaster’s Duchess three-drawer chest from the Savona finish (66- x 46-inches tall) has a hand-painted finish that gives a theatrical look. Available at Decker Ross Interiors, Clearwater or Being, St. Petersburg for $1,199. www.guildmaster.com 30 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay
YOUR TRUSTED SOURCE FOR THREE DECADES.
Rule 3
Add MYSTERY
There is nothing like a screen to create allure. “What lies beyond adds to the appeal of a room,” reports Biggs. The three-panel Paris Snowflake Screen finished in gold leaf (36 1/2 inches x 75 inches) from the Selected Works of Tony Duquette, legendary designer, by Baker, brings instant glamour. Available at PJ Newman Fine Furniture, Tampa for $17,136. www.kohlerinteriors.com
Rule 4
Add PATTERN
In a neutral room, even a subtle design becomes eye-catching. “Don’t be afraid of taking a room to a bolder look with one splash of pattern,” advises Ed. The subtle pattern of the Batik Rug from the Thomas O’Brien Collection for Safavieh comes in a dark chocolate leaf motif on a creamy background. Available at Addison Dicus, Tampa or Bokara Rug Gallery, St. Petersburg for $3,795 retail, 6- x 9-foot size. www.safavieh.com

Rule 5
Add SPARKLE
There is nothing like a little stunning light to transform a space totally. “I like the glamour of a glittery chandelier to bring twinkle into a room,” urges Ed. The Wisdom Chandelier (28-inches round by 35 inches) with palm-leaf design element and hand-applied silverleaf finish in antique wash by Currey and Co. makes a dramatic splash. Available at World of Lighting, Tampa for $1,995. www.curreyandcompany.com
Rule 6 Add SCALE If everything is the same size or shape, the look is dull. “Think of replacing a lamp table with a small dining-size table to produce some visual interest,” recommends Biggs. Lowry Park Zoo is full of possibilities from feeding giraffes or parakeets to taking a safari ride. However, we believe the coolest is getting to ride a camel! Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo has received its second top honor in five years. In 2004, Child magazine voted Lowry Park Zoo as the number one family friendly zoo. This past April, Parent magazine awarded the zoo their number one ranking in their 10 Best Zoos survey, touting it as number one zoo in America. Originally opening in 1957 as a small zoo with fairy-tale themed structures and rides, Lowry Park has evolved into a world-class, award-winning, 56-acre zoo where every child can walk with and talk to the animals. 1101 West Sligh Avenue, Tampa; 813-935-8552 or www.lowryparkzoo.com

International League Any student of the culinary world probably already knows that truffle oil is a high-quality olive oil that has been infused with the flavor of either white or black truffles. They deliver an earthy flavor that imparts an unusually wonderful essence to savory dishes. A taste that is not easy to describe, the white oils will tend to have a more peppery taste. The origin and quality of the oil used has a significant impact on the flavor as well. A variety of truffle oils can be found at Mazzarro's Coffee & Italian Market. How do we suggest using truffle oil? In a word, drizzle. Over mashed potatoes, fresh bread, pastas, salads, and pizzas. Once you can comprehend its taste fully, you can experiment by infusing small amounts of truffle oil in your favorite recipes. 2909 22nd Avenue North, St. Petersburg; 727- 321-2400 or mazzarosmarket.com

Right-hander, Evan Longoria, made his Major League debut in April 2008 with the Tampa Bay Rays. What a stroke of fortune for the Rays. Longoria played baseball for Cal State in Long Beach before joining the Rays. At twentythree, Evan, the American League Rookie of the Year in 2008, has this season been named Player of the Week two times, and Player of the Month once— that's just through May! How does he keep all the accolades from going to his head? "I constantly try to humble myself," Longoria said. "If you don't, I'm sure that the game is going to find a way to humble you. Like I always say, I've got to come to the ballpark and do the same things. And treat everybody the same and try to keep things as simple and plain as possible. I think the minute you start filling your head with those kinds of things it's going to be the downfall of anything that's going good. So I try to keep myself humble and stay grounded." We all hope he just keeps on doing what he is doing.

Big Easy Out An authentic New Orleans Po’ Boy shop has to have a great roast beef po’ boy. The combination of the tender eye of the round roast beef thinly sliced and swimming in a rich brown gravy on a crunchy loaf of good French bread slathered with mayo and dressed with lettuce, tomato and pickle makes as delicious a sandwich as you can find. In New Orleans you measure the sandwich by the number of napkins you need—the more napkins you need—the better the sandwich. Ricky P's makes a bona fide 5 napkin roast beef po’ boy that makes you realize why New Orleans is the best place in the world to eat. ne of the reasons for living in Florida is to enjoy the outdoors. Today, it seems that we are all reinventing the whole outdoor living experience. “Florida is after all a unique place because it is really seasonless”, says Armida Fernandez of Patio Ways in Tampa. She adds, “In fact, in the past five years the single most important phe-
nomena in decorating has been the focus on outdoors.” If you have not recently shopped for outdoor furniture, then you have a big surprise ahead of you. The new mandate is comfort as well as durability and easy care -the same as you would expect for your indoor living. “The line between indoor and outdoor spaces is blurring
and the overall trend is to create a seamless flow between the areas,” suggests Jon Rubinstein, VP, Patio Division, Robb & Stucky.

outdoor fabrics are now available in hundreds of soft textures and colors including linen-looks, velvets, and chenilles. There is new breathable polyurethane that resembles leather.
Testing Your Metals Frame materials have radically improved with a wide variety of metal choices on the market. Donna Wachtler of Rain Thatch in Clearwater, recommends that, “where and how you plan to use your furniture may affect what you select.” For example, poolside furniture should be able to withstand the chlorine and other chemicals from the pool. The UV (ultraviolet) capability of protective coatings or sealants on the cast-aluminum, stainless-steel, and extruded-aluminum frames is important if you plan to leave the furniture exposed to the sun.

But when Ceviche first opened in Tampa in 1995, it had only a handful of tables. Thankfully, it still lacks chain ambience. Nothing feels canned, and nothing tastes bland either. A dizzying list of traditional tapas, pinchos, ceviches, paellas, and cazuelas are accompanied by more inventive little dishes, such as ceviche a la Rusa Charley’s Steak House & Market Fresh Fish
(an oyster ceviche topped with caviar and chilled vodka). Some warm dishes are drenched in sherry and cream and taste so divine that you wonder why they haven’t sparked a trend. You can wash everything down with sangria or Spanish wine, sherry, cider, or beer, take in Flamenco at the Flamenco Bar, and end the meal by splitting a towering torta de tres leches. The Tampa location offers poolside dining, and the St. Pete one occupies three separate restaurant spaces, really, at the Ponce de Leon hotel, and it’s a see-and-be-seen place. In Tampa: dining room and Flamenco Bar open seven days a week; Sundays open for brunch. In St. Pete: breakfast, lunch, and dinner served seven days a week at Pincho; dining room and Flamenco Bar open seven days a week.

ormally, when you refer to cooking, you think of a kitchen with lots of pots and pans heating up over a gas flame. Not here. At the Salt Rock Grill on Indian Shores, they measure a days work in fire and wood. Now don't take that too seriously, they have a kitchen, let's just say that the center piece of this culinary landmark is a shrine of burning oak. A small mountain of oak is hauled in and set to blaze, setting the stage for an evening of world-class steaks and seafood cooked over a 1,200-degree flame to absolute perfection. The Salt Rock Grill is part of the Baystar Restaurant Group which also includes the Island Way Grill off Clearwater Beach, the Marlin Darlin’ Key West Grill in Belleair Bluffs, and the Rumba Island Bar & Grill in Clearwater. As you walk into the restaurant, you'll pass by a beautiful bar complete with stand alone and booth seating. Only a few more steps and you're on your way to the main seating area but not before you pass over a glass floor that showcases an incredible wine cellar located beneath the restaurant. The Salt Rock Grill offers fresh caught seafood, stone crab, king crab, flavorful steaks, pork chops, and chicken in recipes that are sure to make your mouth water and bring you back time and time again. For the kitchen fearless, here is the recipe for one of their signature entrees.

dR WINE
The New
Wine
Alliance By Mark Traverso
I
t’s no secret that the borders of the wine world are ever-expanding, for both producers and consumers. While much of this growth is attributable to multinational corporations jumping into the game with an eye on the bottom line, there is also room for growth among traditional, family-owned wine companies like E & J Gallo. Gallo has recently broadened its portfolio by partnering with philosophically similar, family-owned wineries around the world. These new partners include wineries such as Martin Codax in Spain, Alamos in Argentina, and Bridlewood, Frei Brothers and MacMurray Ranch in California. While their wines may differ stylistically, they all share the same goals of producing high-quality wines made from unique terroir, often orchestrated by young and dynamic winemakers. One of the newest members of the family embodies this partnership philosophy. The iconic, family-owned, Bodegas Gascon first laid roots (or rootstock, as it were) in Medoza, Argentina in 1884. Founder Miguel Escorihuela Gascon saw an opportunity to produce wines of the same high-quality as in his native Spain, at the foot of the Andes. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to quality helped establish Gascon as one of the leading wineries in Argentina.
80 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay
Today the winemaking is in the capable hands of Ernesto Bajda, where he combines the old-world traditions of Gascon with his background in engineering and earth science to craft truly memorable wines. Like the other wines in the Gallo portfolio, Gascon’s flagship Don Miguel Gascon Malbec is a high-value cuvée, offering loads of dark fruit and
tannic structure at a modest price point of under $15. Bajda and his young winemaking colleagues across the globe represent the latest chapter in the evolution of quality wine at reasonable prices. For consumers, it is a refreshing sip in what has been an otherwise parched economy. dR

An independent, single mother who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island, Donna is about to let go of Sophie, the spirited daughter she’s raised alone. For her wedding Sophie goes on a quest to find the identity of her father to walk her down the aisle. She brings back three men from Donna’s past to the Mediterranean paradise they visited twenty years earlier. Over twenty-four chaotic, magical hours, new love will bloom and old romances will be rekindled on this lush island full of possibilities. Ruth Eckerd Hall

Hot Import Nights "Hat Trick" By Zach Abass
Mercedes GLK 350 Roadster Conversion
Originally scoring three goals in the same hockey game, pulling a Hat Trick now means three scores/wins in the same event. And that is just what Boulevard Customs accomplished at the recent Hot Import Nights held at Tropicana Field on April 25th with their hot Mercedes-Benz GLK350 roadster conversion. At the end of the evening, they walked away with top honors for Hottest Unlimited Mercedes, Hottest Body Work, and Hottest SUV. Commissioned directly by Mercedes-Benz , the GLK sports custom 26-inch Asantis, a one-off body kit with custom Strut grillwork, redone interior featuring white diamond tuck and black perforated leather seating areas as well as fresh-built rear bucket seats and center console in lieu of the factory supplied bench. Boulevard removed the top, raked the windshield back and shortened it, smoothed the exterior handles, and fabricated a motorized speedster cover for the cargo area. True to its “Urban Whip theme, sound is amply supplied through JL Audio amplifiers, component speakers, and no less than six of their slimline 13.5-inch subwoofers, including one in each door! Hot Import Nights is a series of national events showcasing the utmost in all areas of vehicle customization. Boulevard Customs is proud to have their Blvd GLK Roadster and Jeff Lacy's Chrysler 300C convertible featured in 2 Pistols latest video Lights Down Low. Boulevard Customs is a St. Petersburg, Florida based shop accomplishing this work for clients across the globe.
