POWER SURGE
The introduction of the new McLaren Artura Spider further launches the automaker into the era of hybrid innovation with a supercar built around exceptional performance, advanced technology and luxurious design.
WORDS : Ed Jones
••• McLaren Automotive is redefining the open-air drive with the Artura Spider.
In the age of rapid automotive technological advancements, automakers constantly look for ways to push the proverbial needle and improve their lineups. For McLaren Automotive, the new Artura Spider is a perfect example of what the team in Woking is capable of. As McLaren’s first-ever High-Performance Hybrid (HPH) convertible, the Artura Spider brings more technology than ever to the automaker’s lineup. For the driver, this equates to more power, performance, and new ways to engage with the drive. For most, the essential details are in the engine bay. At the heart of the new Artura Spider is an advanced 3.0-liter V6 engine paired with an E-Motor, resulting in a combined 690 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. However, power is just part of the equation as it means little if the power-to-weight ratio is unfavorable. For the Artura Spider, worry not, as it’s the lightest convertible supercar in its class, as much as 183 lbs lighter than its closest competitors. With an impressive power-to-weight ratio comes even more remarkable and enhanced performance metrics. Sprinting from 0-60 mph will happen in only 3 seconds for the Artura Spider. Going further into a sprint, 0-124mph comes in 8.4 seconds, and 0-186mph in
AS MCLAREN’S FIRST-EVER HIGH PERFORMANCE HYBRID (HPH) CONVERTIBLE, THE ARTURA SPIDER BRINGS MORE TECHNOLOGY THAN EVER TO THE AUTOMAKER’S LINEUP.

21.6 seconds, while the maximum speed is electronically limited to 205mph. Its weight is only one contributing factor when it comes to performance. Furthering the Artura Spider’s acceleration capabilities is the revised transmission calibration. Featuring a new pre-fill gearshift function, gear changes are 25% faster than previously and offer a more seamless transition between gears.
To control the car and ultimately the drive itself, drivers will have the McLaren infotainment and connectivity system (MIS II) at their disposal. Controlled via two high-definition screens, MIS II o ers familiar McLaren apps such as Variable Drift Control, screen mirroring, and several ADAS driver assistance features. Optionally, drivers can add Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Blindspot Monitoring, and Rear Cross-Tra c Detection to their MIS II.
More than enhanced power and performance, the Artura Spider has looks that are as functional as they are attractive. At the core of the Artura Spider’s design is the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA).
Consisting of a carbon fiber monocoque, aluminum impact structures, and rear structure, the MCLA ensures that the Artura Spider su ers no loss of rigidity when the fixed roof is removed for an open-air drive.
Surrounding this platform is a body that provides the Artura Spider with an undeniable supercar appearance and components that are purposeful in their own right. This includes the new aerothermal cooling system that not only cools the powertrain through cooling inlets but also provides a storage area for the Retractable Hard Top (RHT) and an outlet for hot air to escape through. Aiding in this system’s e ort to relieve the engine bay of hot air is a roof that’s been designed to speed up the flow of hot air away from the powertrain.
Inside the Artura Spider, the cabin exudes performance and luxury, with meticulously chosen materials according to the driver’s preference. One aspect that is a welcome surprise to many is its ‘clean’ steering wheel, free of buttons and controls, allowing the driver to focus on the road ahead. The standard McLaren Clubsport seats are fit with an elliptical arc, moveable backrest,
Rain clouds on the horizon? Fret not as the Artura Spider’s top fully retracts in just 11 seconds at speed of up to 31 mph.
MORE THAN ENHANCED POWER AND PERFORMANCE, THE ARTURA SPIDER HAS LOOKS THAT ARE AS FUNCTIONAL AS THEY ARE ATTRACTIVE.

and close support. Those who want more comfort can opt for the electrically adjustable, heated seats with memory at no additional cost.
For McLaren, providing ample options is essential; that’s why the MY25 Artura comes with a slew of revised options and option packs. These include the exterior and interior carbon fiber components, a faster vehicle lift, Stealth badging, a Bower & Wilkins 12-speaker surround sound audio system, new wheel options, and more.
The new McLaren Aurtura Spider is available in the U.S. with a starting price of $273,800 for the standard specification. Par for the course with McLaren, those ordering an Artura Spider can opt for three interior specifications for an additional $9,400. A vast selection of exterior paints, some available for the first time on the Artura, are also available: five standard colors, twenty Elite colors, and eighteen MSO colors.
McLaren has shown the utmost commitment to enhancing and advancing its models with the new Artura Spider. As a culmination of the automaker’s engineering prowess, technological know-how, and iconic design, the Artura Spider sets a new bar for hybrid convertible supercars.

LATEST AND GREATEST
The 2025 model year has already shaped up to be an exciting one.
WORDS : Tyler Rampersaud
Throughout the first half of this decade, the automotive world has witnessed manufacturers bound towards the future at an unprecedented pace, racing to be the first to implement new technologies and innovations and reimagining many of the conventions they’ve been known for throughout history. Of course, much of this change means that beloved cars have been retired, but it also means that highly-anticipated new creations are coming to the forefront, and some of the best ones yet are arriving for the 2025 model year.
Porsche’s most legendary staple, the 911, has reached a groundbreaking milestone as the 2025 model year revamps the 992 generation of the unequivocally iconic sports car. Overall, the looks and performance of the 911 have been revised throughout much of the lineup. However, an important turning point came in the new 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, the first roadgoing hybrid Porsche 911. With 533 horsepower from the teamwork of its 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six and two electric motors, it’s one of the most innovative and impressive bearers of the 911 nameplate. One electric motor assists the turbocharger, while the other is integrated with the PDK transmission.
Cadillac revealed its new entry-level electric vehicle as it pursues the transformation of its lineup through electrification, the Optiq. Among the growing lineup of electric Cadillacs, including the Lyriq, the Escalade IQ, Cadillac’s all-electric rendition of its staple luxury SUV, and the Celestiq, Cadillac’s latest halo flagship with an eyewatering $300,000 price tag, the Optiq aims to be an agile, fun-to-drive, and luxurious all-electric o ering for everyday enjoyment. Dual-motor all-wheel drive will come standard, and with 300 horsepower, 354 lb/ft of torque, and a 300-mile

range, the Optiq promises to be exciting and easy to enjoy. Its starting price is $54,000.
Lamborghini has, sadly, sent o the Huracán, one of the manufacturer’s most cherished icons and one of the few cars to boast a V10 engine with the unique and unforgettable sound it o ers. However, a new and innovative successor is already on the horizon. Lamborghini has ensured that it will follow in the footsteps of the Revuelto regarding how it has succeeded the mighty Aventador. While the new Lamborghini supercar has yet to be revealed, we already know that its powertrain will be hybrid, consisting of a 4.0-liter twinturbocharged V8 and three electric motors. An all-new design from the Fighting Bull, it’ll boast a 10,000-rpm rev limit and 937 horsepower.
BMW brought an exciting future vision to the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este this year, the new BMW Concept Skytop. Set against the glittering backdrop of Italy’s idyllic Lake Como, the new concept boasts a beautifully futuristic yet historically inspired design, with two seats and an open top. Its monochromatic leather-upholstered interior is sumptuously appointed, with special details like leathercovered speakers, colored crystals, brogued perforations, and more. The open-air interior blends seamlessly with the elegant exterior, inspired by legends like the Z8 and 507 with
its shark-nose silhouette and elegant proportions. Under the hood, the Concept Skytop boasts a 617-horsepower, 4.4-liter V8 engine.
Finally, Bugatti has revealed the new Tourbillon, the replacement to the Chiron, whose 500th and final example, ‘L’Ultime,’ was revealed in May. The new hypercar ditches the quad-turbocharged W16 and instead sports a hybrid powertrain, pairing a naturally aspirated, 1,000-horsepower V16 engine from Cosworth with three electric motors boasting 800 horsepower for a staggering total of 1,800 horsepower. Even with a hybrid powertrain, the new Tourbillon weighs less than the Chiron, and it’s anticipated to build on the record-breaking performance achievements of the Chiron and the Veyron before it.
From new luxury EVs to Porsche’s first roadgoing hybrid 911, Lamborghini’s new hybrid supercar, BMW’s classicinspired roadster concept, and Bugatti’s latest hybrid hypercar, the very near future has plenty to look forward to in the automotive world.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s 2018 debut marked a significant turning point for the British carmaker. For the first time in its 118-year history, nearly everyone who parted with the over $325,000 the Cullinan originally cost used it daily. It didn’t just shift customer habits; the Cullinan morphed the customer base itself, successfully attracting new and, crucially, younger buyers to the brand. So much so that from 2010 to 2024, the average age of a Rolls-Royce owner dipped from 56 to 43.
The Series II’s visual updates are plentiful and focused, although it may not seem so initially. The central theme here is verticality, drawing inspiration from traditional yachts and skyscraper designs. It’s visible in the updated front’s extended daytime running lights, which slope downwards and flank a now frameless and illuminated Pantheon grille. Like the Spectre, a prominent horizontal line sits atop its angled slats, connecting this bright centerpiece with those aforementioned LEDs. Enlarged lower air intakes with angled veins sharpen the lower sections of its front fascia.
The Series II benefits from the vastly updated tech suite we first saw in the Spectre. For the first time, a digital instrument cluster and an updated central infotainment display sit behind a massive pillar-to-pillar glass panel. An updated analog clock and a Spirit of Ecstacy figure sit beside the new screens, as does an illuminated passenger panel comprising over 7,000 laser-cut dots.

The most significant update to the Series II’s cabin is the addition of a new Duality Twill fabric, replacing the leatheronly the marque has relied on in recent decades. Made from bamboo fibers and incorporating an interlinked “RR” pattern, each cabin built with this new material will use more than 2.2 million stitches and 11 miles of thread, each taking around 20 hours to complete. While the carmaker plans to o er its base color in Lilac, Chocolate, or Black, buyers can pick from 51 available thread colors. Should leather be more your speed, the Series II introduces a new Placed Perforation option comprised of around 107,000 0.8 to 1.2 mm-sized holes to create unique patterns that buyers can customize through the brand’s Bespoke program.
Piloting the refreshed Cullinan feels strikingly familiar. As noted earlier, most of its oily bits carry over from its predecessor. In standard form, its twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12 produces 563 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, while that output rises to 600 hp and 664 lb-ft for the Black Badge. This allows for a 4.9-second sprint to 60 mph and an electronically limited 155mph top speed.
Starting with the “standard” Cullinan, it’s still impressive how well its massive V12 feels virtually non-existent from behind the wheel. Even as you work deeper into the gas pedal, its cabin noise remains almost unchanged as it quickly but silently picks up speed. As with every car Rolls-Royce makes, its steering is

e ortlessly light and nicely isolated from unwanted vibrations. The same goes for its air suspension, which, despite the addition of larger 23-inch wheels and slimmer sidewalls, still manages to isolate even significant road imperfections perfectly.
Jumping in the Black Badge model immediately after is perhaps the only way you’ll be able to tell them apart. The extra 57 horses it develops are barely felt in the real world unless you select its “Low” mode, which sharpens its throttle response, finally bringing them into play. Despite the BB’s sportier aesthetic and sharpened powertrain tuning, its air suspension is just as soft as the standard car’s, meaning you’ll pay no comfort penalties for the added performance. Only its slightly more aggressive exhaust mapping will stand out to the outside world, as inside the car, the di erence is barely noticeable given its extensive sound deadening.
While not all of the Series II’s exterior updates are equally successful aesthetically, the same can’t be said of its interior. The marque is focusing on o ering more of the customization flexibility its customers yearn for without messing with the powertrain components they’re already satisfied with. While options will likely push its out-the-door price well past the $500,000 mark, six years on, there’s nothing to drive or ride in quite like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

END OF AN ERA
Now that it’s retired, do we truly appreciate how monumental the Bugatti Chiron was?
WORDS : Tyler Rampersaud
AFTER NEARLY A DECADE, THE ERA OF THE BUGATTI CHIRON HAS OFFICIALLY ENDED, AS BUGATTI HAS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED ITS REPLACEMENT.
AAfter nearly a decade, the era of the Bugatti Chiron has o cially ended, as Bugatti has announced its replacement, the Tourbillon. With the Tourbillon introducing a new 1,800-horsepower hybrid V16 powertrain, the end of the Chiron means that its revolutionary quad-turbocharged W16 engine is close to going, as well. Limitedproduction models like the Bolide and Mistral will be made before the W16 is phased out.
Of course, the Chiron’s predecessor and the first hypercar to sport the 8.0-liter W16, the Veyron, will always have the status of being the earth-shattering wake-up call to the entire automotive industry regarding performance engineering potential. Still, the Chiron has an important legacy in its own right, one that will be remembered throughout automotive history for generations.
It all started nearly a decade ago, at the intersection of the automotive and video game worlds. In 2015, Bugatti joined forces with the celebrated racing game series Gran Turismo to create the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo, part of the futuristic series of Vision Gran Turismo concept cars that preview the future of automotive design and technology, and bring them to life in the driving simulator.
The Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo wowed with its futuristic and historically inspired design, which would eventually be seen in the Chiron that followed it.
2016 was when the Chiron was finally introduced, and its W16 engine produced nearly 1,500 horsepower, which is more than

BUGATTI’S FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
even the groundbreaking Veyron Super Sport it succeeded. Its 261-mph limited top speed solidified it as Bugatti’s new revolution, and the Chiron began its reign as the historic manufacturer’s new hypercar king.
After the Chiron came variants like the Chiron Sport in 2018, the Chiron Super Sport 300+ in 2019, which yet again cemented Bugatti in automotive history by being the first production car to reach a top speed above 300 mph, the Chiron Pur Sport in 2020 focused on enhanced dynamics and agility, and the Chiron Super Sport in 2021.
Another Chiron variant, the Profilée, an altered version based on the Pur Sport, was planned, but all Chiron allocations were sold out before it could be released. The one Profilée example that was made was sold in 2023 at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Paris, breaking a world record as the most expensive new car ever sold at auction for over $10.5 million.
Limited-edition models like the Divo, Bolide, Centodieci, La Voiture Noire, and Mistral are based on the Chiron’s chassis and legendary powertrain. Examples of the Bolide and Mistral are still yet to be produced, but Bugatti made the final standard Chiron, and revealed the final car of the 500-example Chiron production run in May 2024, called ‘L’Ultime.’ An example of the Super Sport, the one-o ’s special configuration echoed that of the original Chiron, with bespoke hand-painted graphics commemorating special moments and milestones important to the Chiron’s legacy.
With the new Tourbillon taking the Chiron’s place as Bugatti’s latest example of performance engineering and hypercar excellence, the Chiron’s innovation, performance, exclusivity, luxury, design, and influence in the automotive world will live on as inspiration for Bugatti’s future endeavors, and a cherished piece of automotive history within the world’s greatest supercar collections.

TIME TO ROLL
Rolls-Royce’s dedication to luxury is unmatched, and these very bespoke creations highlight their commitment.
WORDS : Jordan Aquistapace
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has long since held a prestigious position in the luxury automotive world as a legendary coachbuilder, renowned for its dedication to bespoke craftsmanship and limitless o erings. As a celebration of its storied past, the marque has re-introduced its bespoke coachbuilder services with the ultra-exclusive Droptail series. The limited collection is an example of Rolls-Royce’s dedication to luxury and individuality, featuring four distinct models, each accompanied by a piece uniqué timepiece. These horological masterpieces come crafted from creative collaborations with industry icons such as Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin, ensuring that every Droptail is a complete work of art.
Rolls-Royce introduced its first Droptail coachbuild commission, the La Rose Noire Droptail, at a private event near Pebble Beach during Monterey Car Week in 2023. Inspired by the Black Baccara rose, this extraordinary build showcases a new paint process perfected over 150 iterations, featuring a base coat with five layers of clear lacquer, each with a unique red tone. The interior presents the most complex cabin design ever created by Rolls-Royce, representing falling rose petals with 1,603 pieces of black wood veneer triangles. The dashboard houses a custom Audemars Piguet

timepiece, a 43mm Royal Oak Concept SplitSeconds Chronograph GMT Large Date. The removable watch, housing an in-house AP Calibre 4407 movement, blends seamlessly with the Droptail’s color scheme and can be worn separately. A powered clasp mechanism presents the timepiece at the touch of a button, and a titanium blank head watch with a rose engraving fills the gap when the watch is removed.
Rolls-Royce unveiled the second Droptail masterpiece, the ‘Amethyst,’ as a beautiful extension of its commissioning client’s cultural heritage, family legacy, and personal passions. The stunning spec features a duotone exterior paint finish, mirroring various stages of a flower’s bloom. The main body incorporates a soft purple shade with a silver undertone, notably named Globe Amaranth, enriched with powdered aluminum flecks for an iridescent finish. The upper portion contrasts with a deep purple Amethyst paint, blending red, blue, and violet flakes to create a unique color with a subtle metallic sheen. Inside, the primary Amethyst leather design matches the exterior and is finished with a pearlescent lacquer. The dashboard is decorated with a bespoke timepiece from the Swiss haute horlogerie specialists at Vacheron Constantin. The ‘Les Cabinotiers Armillary Tourbillon’ features an intricate hand-wound movement and a bi-retrograde display, seamlessly integrating into the Droptail’s design. The collaboration timepiece represents the perfect harmony of precious materials and bespoke colors, with amethyst-colored inserts and a partially brushed and polished finish mounted on a white-gold baseplate with a handcrafted sunburst guilloché pattern.
Rolls-Royce says there will be four Droptails and Arcadia is the third, drawing inspiration from the mythical realm of Arcadia—depicted in Ancient Greek mythology as a paradise of natural beauty. The client’s vision for the car was to achieve a timeless white exterior with

subtle complexity under natural light. Inside, the Droptail features a Santos Straight Grain veneer fascia, which showcases a bespoke clock created by Rolls-Royce’s Coachbuild team. The marque’s most complex timepiece, the clock took five months to assemble after two years of meticulous development. The clock’s face displays a geometric guilloché pattern in raw metal with 119 facets, honoring Rolls-Royce’s 119-year heritage. Themes from the clock extend to the car’s instrument dials, ensuring a cohesive design that reflects the car’s sophisticated style.

THE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN EXCELLENT CARS FROM AN ICONIC COLLECTION!
Especially for automotive enthusiasts, cars, whether modern masterpieces, young timers, or carefully kept antiques, serve as symbols of history, of times in our own lives or as a glimpse of a more distant past. The James Gilstrap Collection is full of automotive icons like these both modern and classic, which are not only celebrated now but will be revered even more as the years pass.
Gilstrap’s stories about cars begin with a trade. He traded his guitar for a bicycle, then his first car a 1938 Dodge, and before trading it he had to make it run as a teenager, he learned how to repair and maintain it to make it run. In fact, Gilstrap helps maintain the cars in his collection to this day.
As a musician who had a young Elvis Presley open for him at a show, and as a friend of the late automotive legend Bruce McLaren, and Peter Revson, Gilstrap knew he did not want to be a race car driver. They let him use the stopwatch to time the laps. He has incredible stories to tell, and so does his amazing collection of cars. He drove a 2011 Porsche Turbo Panamera for 14 years and is steadfast in his preference for Porsches as a daily driver’s car.
duPont REGISTRY: It’s an honour to speak to you and get a preview of this collection. Someone has mentioned that you once had Elvis Presley open for you? Not too many people had that to talk about in 1952.
James Gilstrap: There was a radio announcer in Texas who called my football coach and invited us to play for seven weeks in a row. We jumped at that and were excited. Also playing were three other people, Jim Edward and Maxine Brown. Some kid about my age came up in an orange 1952 Chevrolet with ELVIS THE CAT PRESLEY ON THE SIDES. And when I asked who number one was, they said it was just some kid. After his first song and movements no one wanted to hear the others and me. He was unbelievable, the announcer let him play four songs instead of one. He came out signing “Good Rockin tonight”, and we did.
dR: So how did you get into car collecting?
JG: I was eight years old when my father passed, and my mom was busy working to trying support my sister and me. My mom, met someone, so I left to live with my grandfather. It was me and him in a small log cabin in the mountains of South Carolina. At eight years old, I was ploughing behind a Mule, I knew I could do better. So that was my goal in life, to do better. I like to work and even now at 88-years-old I still like to work. I ended up going a little bit crazy. I got up to around 50 cars a year and a half ago. I always managed the cars and made sure they were in good condition because I didn’t want a car that didn’t start and wanted them to look and run well. After I was kind of successful, I married my wonderful wife, Sue. We did lots of fun things. Hunting, fishing, golf, playing Polo. Then we decided to enjoy all the things we could not have before. She is my side kick. Always there for me. We started buying Classic cars. They were not fun to drive. So, we then decided to enjoy Exotic Cars. Hard to find the quality of the cars we wanted. I think that was my excuse to buy more. Buying is much more fun till you see something else.
dR: What was your first exotic car?
JG: It was a little Porsche convertible. It was a beautiful car. I got pictures of that one with my wife – that’s how I captured her!
dR: So, are you saying you maintain all of the cars in your collection?
JG: Yes, we do, that’s why I’m down to 27 and I’m trying to take it down to around 12. That’s the reason why I called duPont REGISTRY. I’ve purchased cars from duPont REGISTRY so I thought what better way to sell some of my prized collection than through the magazine and website. The magazine is a beautiful way for me to still enjoy my cars.
dR: Do you have one special car that you are particularly attached to?
JG: Well, you know, I did, because that’s how I got into cars. I had a 1938 Dodge. I became a mechanic trying to get that Dodge to run. That was back when I was about 15. I ended up driving for a bootlegger. He made the whiskey and I made the runs in North Carolina. My grandfather didn’t like me doing that, but it gave me fun and excitement. Police turned their heads and they even wanted some of the moonshine. I ended up trading in that Dodge for a bicycle because it wouldn’t run well. Recently, I had a 2011 Porsche Panamera that I loved to drive. It was the best car I’ve ever owned, even today. I’d say the 2011 is better than the newer ones. But Porsche is still the best driving car today.
dR: What car were you most proud of acquiring?
JG: It was a 1955 Chevrolet Power Pack with Overdrive. I dreamed about this car, so much I would spend hours before work looking at it. One of the domino players had a 1954 Rocket Oldsmobile that had been beating all comers with his Olds. While I took care of the 55 Chevy Power Pack it was clean and tuned ready to go. The owner of the station Leo Ingram told me if he won this race, he would buy the 55 Chevy for me if he lost, I had to work 6 months for free. I was too excited to talk. WE won my boss knew we should win. That was the first car these guys had seen with overdrive. A 12-mile race was easy.
So began a long and insatiable appetite for the very best cars Jim could find and own. If you are interested in acquiring an excellent car from a storied collector, view the offerings here. Then give Jim a call and speak to him personally. He is always open to an enjoyable and entertaining conversation with fellow car enthusiasts!
