FROM THE PUBLISHER May 2015 Dear Reader, It’s May and Spring is finally here. The winter doldrums (and temperatures) are gone and it’s time to roll out the “special wheels” and have some fun. This logic was not lost on those who attended the “big three” auctions back in March at Amelia Island. Spring had already reached the Island by then and the eager buyers of classic, luxury and exotic cars spent over $100 million on new rides! Wow! How fun. The sun shown on Bill Warner and his team as the 20th Annual edition of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance went into the record books. The addition of the new MotorXpo on the adjoining fairway provided more vendor space and room for enthusiasts to wander on Saturday AND Sunday. All the major luxury and exotic car manufacturers staged ride and drives. And, of course, the presence of Sir Sterling and Lady Moss made for a truly historic and memorable weekend. It was absolutely, bar-none…The best! Back here at home, in March, we staged our regular 3rd Saturday of the Month Cars & Coffee at USF SP (that’s University of South Florida Saint Petersburg), complete with a big crowd, many new offerings from our dealer clients, and a Grand Prix race car. The St. Pete Grand Prix (held March 29th) was almost ready and the beautiful Florida weather made the event, location, and the participants a show of “best in class” automotive enthusiasm. Some of this may be old news. For those of you looking for the latest “news-that-is-fit-to-print”, it is on our new website (aka blog) known as Autofluence. It is easily found on www.duPontREGISTRY.com. Go there every day to stay up to date on the latest activities in our world. Our marketplace is being influenced by the coming of age of the traditional baby-boomer generation. This is an enormous demographic group with plenty of spending power. Hence, the rise in interest (and sales) in mid-to-late century classics. What does that mean? Let’s focus on 1950-1980 European and American sports cars. Sure true brass era and traditional pre-war classics are holding their own, but sports and horsepower are leading the way. This is right in the duPont REGISTRY™ sweet-spot. Original Masterpiece Reborn In 1496, a young artist was commissioned by Cardinal Raffaelo Riario to create a statue of Bacchus, the Roman god of wine. For a reason unknown to historians, Riario rejected the statue, which was then bought by Jacopo Galli. Galli was a prominent Roman banker and patron of the arts who was quick to recognize the genius in the young man who was destined to become the world's most famous artist—that young man was Michelangelo and this sculpture, Bacchus, was his first masterpiece

readily identified by the goblet, grapes and wreath of ivy leaves sacred to him and Michelangelo shows him as having imbibed his wine which is made most evident by his almost reeling, drunken stance.

The god of wine is depicted with a dissolute and mirthful face, his eyes fixed on the goblet which is filled with the elixir he created. Bacchus is

he latest from Ferrari is the all-new 488 GTB. If the “GTB” moniker sounds familiar, it is because it appeared on the company’s first ever mid-rear-engined V8 model, the 308 GTB. Similarities between the 308 GTB and 488 GTB start and end with the number of cylinders in their engine and their name. What truly separates these two from each other is the turbocharger found in the new 488 GTB. Since turbochargers allow for big power from smaller engines, the 488 utilizes a revised 3.8-liter V8, probably similar to what is found in the California T. Yes, the F40 also featured a twin turbo setup and a rear engine V8, but the 488 GTB brings it to a different level. This new model delivers 660 hp and laps the Fiorano test track in 1:23, the same time as its big brother, the F12berlinetta. In order to increase power from the turbos without altering the car’s overdrive, engineers have added Variable Torque Management into the engine programming.

This allows for a gradual and controllable release of power once the turbos spool up. The surge of power is what made the F40 difficult to control, even in perfect weather. 760 nm of torque under its hood translates to 560 ft-lbs, or 51 pounds more than the F12. This new Grand Touring Berlinetta represents the state of the art from this storied brand. The reintroduction of the turbocharger in the Ferrari lineup has now provided us with the California T and the 488 GTB. What’s next for Ferrari? We don’t know, but we are more than excited.
