t the start of the pandemic, McKinsey reported that only 1 in 10 individuals who could afford to fly privately were doing so. That’s changed! Private flying has spiked to record levels, according to Argus TraqPak.
Recent entrants like VeriJet, utilizing the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet, provide an ideal solution for short hops. NetJets is adding the ultra-long-range Bombardier Global 7500 to its fleet. HondaJet operator Jet It is adding nonstop nationwide capabilities.
There’s no let-up in sight. For example, both American Airlines and United Airlines announced they were permanently stopping flights to dozens of smaller and midsize cities in recent weeks. The result is fewer connecting options, and if you miss your connection, you could be stuck overnight. At the same time, Covid avoidance is still a big concern. It means more demand for private aviation options.
One constant is change. Private Jet Card Comparisons, a guide that helps consumers compare over 50 charter, jet card, membership, and fractional providers, has made over 125 updates, about double the normal.
The good news is there has never been more choices to fly privately in every part of the market.
Expect more new entrants in 2022.
For private aviation users it means it’s more important than ever to keep up with what’s happening.
Operators that traditionally focused on the wholesale market plan to launch their own membership programs. Virtually all providers are making changes. With some suppliers limited access for new customers, now is the time to buy. In fact, in a survey of flyers who are new to private aviation, 100% said they plan to continue even after the pandemic fades.
