he McLaren F1 was the king of the 90’s and was, and still is, one of the most sought after British cars. To follow the F1, McLaren needed to create a worthy successor capable of shocking the world. Not only is the McLaren P1 a worthy successor, but it is one of the most sophisticated vehicles to ever lay its tires on asphalt. For power, McLaren’s engineers implemented a drivetrain that consists of a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine

coupled with a single electric motor. The combined power output between the engine and electric motor is rated at an astonishing 903 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful production vehicles on the road. Of course, all of this power translates into speed; the P1 tops out at 217 mph (limited) and will reach 62 mph from a complete stop in just 2.8 seconds. The P1’s engine is aided by the myriad technologies aimed at increasing the car’s performance. Airflow is

optimized around the entirety of the car thanks to the active wing and underbody devices. While you may not be able to see the underbody devices in action, the rear wing extends from the body by 4.72 inches on the road and up to 11.8 inches on the track. Also optimizing the P1 for performance, depending on the selected setting, is the RaceActive Chassis Control (RCC), which can lower the car by 1.96 inches in race mode. Whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s more, the RSS system features adaptive

spring rates, roll control, pitch control and damping, with each ensuring that the P1 has a perfect drive on and off of the track. Thanks to boundless amounts of new technologies and some of the most brilliant engineers in the automotive industry, the McLaren P1 is an instant legend and will surely go down in the history books.
