Home Design & Furnishings Welcome to the annual fall home decorating issue of the duPont REGISTRY™ Luxury Living in Tampa Bay, a guide to the luxury lifestyle. Our coverage of residential lifestyles includes articles with wonderful revelations to and colorful images of fantastic ways to make your nest even more refined and more luxurious. We’ve gone out of our way to give insights on how to bring the outside to the inside of your house. And, some interesting ways to take the comforts of inside… outside! The dR Garden section featuring ideas on outside living is perfect as cooler weather begins the glorious fall season. dR Home will take you back inside by using common exterior finishes in the kitchen and other rooms in the house. It’s fall, of course, and what is this time of year without football? Well, here’s a new twist! See our dR People section where we welcome Kellen Winslow, Jr. to the Buc’s roster. GO BUCS! And, get a look at the other side of Keyshawn Johnson. When Johnson walked off the field, he decided to pursue his hobby of interior design. Furniture, fabrics, and finishings are now part of his design playbook. Who would have thought that a bathtub would become the focal point of the luxurious lifestyle? In an Over the Top story, read how reposing in colorful, and unusual, surroundings can brighten your day. These are just a few things that make this issue special. Please be sure to check out the ad for Nilla Shields “Finda-Cure” line of comfortable ladies clothing. These special, limited-edition original designs are on sale just in time to support and participate in the Susan G. Komen three-day walk in October. A portion of the proceeds will go to this worthwhile charity. Enjoy and live your life with style every day.

Outdoor Luxury Outdoor spaces deserve the same attention to detail as the inside of your home. Patio Ways, a new high-end shop for the discriminating customer, carries everything you need for a beautiful outdoor living room. The store opened this summer in Lutz, just north of Bearrs Avenue, and carries one-of-a-kind accessories, artwork, umbrellas, and furniture collections that you won’t find anywhere else. There is something for everyone, from traditional to contemporary. “Every item is top-quality, guaranteed to last just like you would expect for the interior décor of your home,” says Melissa White, store manager. Look for brand names like Winston, Brown Jordan, and more. 110 Holland Lane, Lutz; 813-949-6222 or www.patioways.com.

Beautiful Faces Skin Nouveau Visage, South Tampa’s newest medical skin care salon promises to help you look great with a full line-up of the latest facial rejuvenation procedures: IPL lasers that fade brown spots; peels and Microdermabrasion for diminishing pores and smoothing skin; injectible fillers like Restylane and Radiesse for adding fullness; and Smart Lipo for noninvasive skin tightening. The credentials of the staff are impressive; all of the skin care specialists are national trainers in their field and the medical director is a renowned Tampa plastic surgeon and hand specialist. Look for monthly specials through their web site. 4315 West Bay to Bay Boulevard, Tampa; 813-839-4141 or www.SkinNVtampa.com.

Going Green A long-time Tampa landmark is going green. Mise en Place recently partnered with Uriah’s Farm in Lithia, Florida where the restaurant has its own patch of garden for growing organic produce, such as herbs, several kinds of lettuces, cucumbers, carrots, and more. But local produce isn’t the only green practice Mise en Place is undertaking. The restaurant has a nice selection of “sustainable” wines grown in eco-friendly vineyards and the menu now offers entrees such as freerange chicken. Restaurant manager Ty Rodriguez says he’s also ordering locally whenever possible, moving away from plastic toward biodegradable paper products and switching to energy-efficient light bulbs. 442 W. Not Your Everyday Sushi Downtown Tampa is rocking at night thanks to James DeVito, who opened the popular Taps Wine & Beer on the ground floor of the SkyPoint condo tower about a year ago. Now he’s launched a new and equally impressive venture—Rawbar Sushi. The poular new hot spot features a swanky interior and an upscale Japanese fusion and sushi menu with items such as shrimp roll wrapped in proscuitto, soft shell crab roll, miso-glazed salmon and fried shishitou peppers. He also snagged the highly regarded sushi chef Nao Higuchi, who relocated to Tampa from Miami Beach. 777 North Ashley Drive, Tampa; (813) 463-1968 or www.rawbarsushi.com

A Taste of Italy If you’re looking for an authentic Italian experience, don’t miss Divino’s Fine Italian Restaurant, newly opened in downtown Clearwater. Owners Piero Caramella and Dmitry Lisovitskiy have transformed a once-vacant movie theatre into a lavish restaurant designed to resemble an Italian courtyard or “piazza” with a large fountain at the center. No expenses were spared in the interior décor, which features imported Italian tile, a gorgeous chandelier, private tables on the wrap-around balcony overlooking the piazza and a small stage for live music. There’s even an on-site bakery. 22 North Fort Harrison Avenue, Clearwater; 727-906-7602 or www.divinorestaurant.com. dR

familial—about the most-used room in the house. Since this is the case, now may be the time to take a second look at your cucina and liven it up a bit—if not for your friends, do it for your family! Or better yet, for you! Gone are the days of cookie cutter cabi-

nets, formica countertops, and boring floors. These days, when it comes to designing a kitchen, the sky’s the limit! Area designers offer the following advice on how to turn your kitchen into a culinary masterpiece you’ve always dreamed of. Bon appétit!

The Outdoors Comes In Charna Kety of AlliKriste Fine Cabinetry & Kitchen Design in St. Petersburg says her clients are interested in bringing architectural elements usually found on the façade of the home into the kitchen, including metal, rock and stone. Copper and faux stone hoods over the stove are helping create more grand, architecturally pleasing designs.

The Pot Is Half Full Chefs will appreciate the ease of filling a pot full of water using a pot filler. Barbara Langan of Olde World Cabinetry in Largo says that whether above a traditional stovetop or one on an island, the pot filler takes away the strain of transporting a full pot of water from the sink to the stove.

Add a Splash of Color Ever thought of adding a splash of color to your kitchen? Not to the walls, but to the appliances? That’s just what Lynn Kislin with Appliance Gallery in Largo suggests. Viking, Aga, and Bertazzoni offer appliances in fire engine red, cream, and sea glass colors such as blues, greens, and teals to “add a fun element to the kitchen.” Choose a focal point and make it pop!

Get the European Look After about 20 years of traditional design, George Gobes of Park Avenue Designs in Tampa sees his clients moving to a sleeker, more European look with straight lines and interesting hardware, not to mention concrete countertops, glass and metal, resulting in an almost industrial feel. What does George think about this movement? “It’s fun to do,” he says. dR

Making a

The Bucs and Tampa welcome Kellen Winslow Jr.

hen any football fan hears the name of Kellen Winslow Jr., it’s hard to think about anything more than a rare athlete that possesses uncommon speed and agility at the tight-end position and who delivers a dynamic offensive threat with game-breaking ability. Kellen joined the Buccaneers this past off-season in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. Kellen has had a highly decorated career. He was named to the Pro

JAY LAWRENCE GOLDMAN

W

Bowl following the 2007 season after recording eighty-two receptions for a career-high 1,106 yards and five touchdowns. His 1,106 receiving yards that season were the most by a Browns tight end in club history and third overall in team annals. That season, he became only the fourteenth tight end in NFL history to top 1,000 yards receiving in a single season. In 2006, he led all NFL tight ends and ranked ninth in the league with a career-high eighty-nine receptions, tying Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome’s franchise single-season record. He has

appeared in forty-four career games with forty starts and his career totals include 219 receptions for 2,459 yards and eleven touchdowns. Those numbers include five games with ten or more catches, including a career high eleven receptions on three separate occasions, and four 100-yard receiving games. Kellen originally entered the NFL as a first-round draft pick (sixth overall) by the Cleveland Browns in the 2004 NFL Draft. With all of those career accomplishments, who would think he, or anyone in his position, could find time for anything or anyone else? But that is just what Kellen does... he finds the time to make a difference. Kellen maintains a charitable foundation, the Kellen Winslow Jr. Foundation, which has been implemented to give back to the Boys and Girls Club as well as other children’s charities, and he is constantly expanding his philanthropic

endeavors. For Kellen, kids have a special place in his heart and he loves to give back by using his talent and celebrity to raise funds that give children a fighting chance to make it in this world. To Kellen, kids are everything. They are the future and any investment he makes in that is one that comes easy for him. That, in and of itself, perfectly aligns with the mission statement of the Boys and Girls Club that states its purpose is: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. The Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside is a youth development organization dedicated to promoting the health, social, educational, vocational, and character development of the community’s boys and girls. Programs and activities are designed to instill in children a sense of self-esteem, belonging, competence, usefulness, and influence.

For Kellen, kids have a special place in his heart and he loves to give back by using his talent and celebrity to raise funds that give children a fighting chance to make it in this world. Kellen is also very interested in addressing the problem of childhood obesity and is in the developmental stages of creating prevention programs and camps that encourage at-risk kids to adopt healthy habits for an active lifestyle. Who knows? Perhaps in the not too distant future one of those kids will be donning an NFL jersey and telling the story of a great player whose help kept them on the right course. dR

Winning Photography

Kellen, the new face of the Buccaneers, has already made an impact on his new hometown. In June, he hosted a youth football camp at One Buc Place. He sponsored over 200 youth. The three-day camp was for football players ages eight to eighteen and included coaching from Winslow Jr., some of his Bucs teammates, and Tampa Bay area high school coaches.

By Gale Steves

here was a moment or two in recent bathroom design history that the shower became the over-sized focal point of any luxury bath. Thankfully that moment has passed, and we are back regarding the tub as the most important focus of the bathroom. It adds architecture or a point of view to this ever-growing space. Ada Pagano of A. Pagano Designs, Inc., in St Petersburg reports that her clients are looking to duplicate the spa experience in their own homes and thus returning to the tub to provide relaxation for the mind and body. And this experience does not mean you have to share it. The trend to single-person tubs, whether they are simply for soaking or for the fullbathing experience, gives you a huge number of choices from which to select. “Consider style and size before selecting the tub,” recommends Nancy Braamse, CKD, CBD at Olde World Cabinetry in Largo. Freestanding tubs are available in both traditional as well as contemporary designs. The roll-top bath usually fits into a more traditional space while the flat top has a more modern look. This choice is complicated by how this tub sits on the floor. Historically, a tub has feet to support it; now you can purchase a wooden or same material plinth or base to support it or even a metal cradle.

Now and Zen: This Japanese inspired freestanding tub, “Yume”, by MTI Whirlpools had a generous (35.5 inch) depth for a deep bathing experience. It can be outfitted as a still-water soaker or air bath. Suggested retail price from $4,940 for soak bath to $8,583 for air bath. Available at Ferguson/Castle. www.mtiwhirlpools.com

Pamper Power: Riva™ 6 freestanding tub from Jacuzzi has very clean styling and a seamless wrap-around skirt. The optional decorative wood ring and legs shown in red makes this a standout whether a soaker or (air bath) configuration (72 x 42 X 20.5 inches). Suggested retail price in Pure Air® is $8,099. Available from Ferguson/Castle. www.jacuzzi.com

Mitchell Levey of Mitchell Keith Tile and Bath Collections in Tampa asks his clients when designing a bath project the following questions: “Who is going to use this tub? How are you going to use it? How will you enter and exit the tub? The size of the bather may determine the length of the tub. If you are soaking, think of materials that hold in the heat of the water, not lose it.” And consider the view, adds Levey, “Where the water comes in and out should agree with the position of the bather.” Jennifer Skalko, Showroom Consultant, Ferguson/Castle in Tampa, counsels to make sure the tub will fit the space. Bathtub sizes can range from 40 to 85 inches in

length and 12 to 32 inches in depth. Freestanding tubs will take up more space and cost more than a built-in version. If the tub is part of a remodel, it will have to navigate hallways or doors or come through a window opening, as a worse case scenario. Also think of the weight of the tub when full of water, so check your home’s framing for adequate support. “If space is an issue, new drop-in or undermount baths can have the same luxurious look as freestanding ones when encased in sexy tile, glossy mosaics or even colored glass,” suggests Marla Davidson of Marla Davidson Tile and Stone in Tampa. Cladding is the eye-catching

element of a fitted bath, so choose carefully. Whatever material you select, remember to enable access to the plumbing in case anything goes wrong. If you want to go all-out for a home spa experience, contemplate investing in extra features such as an air bath, chromotherapy (also called color therapy) instead of just a bath or noisy whirlpool. Extras like these will push up the price of the bath, but are well worth the investment in relaxation.

Sleek Retreat: Soirée Freestanding Soaking Tub from TOTO makes a sophisticated design statement with its bold lines and smooth curves. The floor mounted bath faucet’s, understated controls, and integrated hand shower highlight the collection’s minimalism (72 x 40 x 22 inches). Suggested retail price is $5,500. Available at Olde World Cabinetry. www.totousa.com

Immerse Yourself: California designer, Michael S. Smith created a timeless and classic freestanding tub for his “For Town” collection for Kallista, inspired by the sexy designs of 1930s which fits into a modern condo or waterside home. This cast iron roll-top tub sits on its own plinth (70 x 32 x 25 inches). Suggested retail price is $11,359. Available at Ferguson/Castle. www.kallista.com

Stone Alone: The ultimate one-of-a-kind “Crema tub from Stone Forest is hand carved in imported Crema Marfil marble from Spain. Each tub is unique with variations in color and patterns (60 x 36.5 x 23 inches as shown). Suggested retail price is $20,000. Available at Galleria Showplace in Pinellas Park or South Tampa. Playing on another field...TACKLING

W

ith a successful career playing big league football that came to a close right here in Tampa Bay, former NFL star and current TV personality Keyshawn Johnson is looking to score big in a new field on the A&E original series Keyshawn Johnson: Tackling Design that recently premiered as part of A&E’s Saturday line-up. The series will follow the day-today drama as Johnson rewrites the playbook on interior design.

42 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay

The outspoken NFL veteran wide receiver and ESPN football analyst, Keyshawn Johnson may be best known for his plays on the field, but now he’s putting a completely different set of skills to the test. Furniture, fabric, and finishings used to be just a hobby, but with his football days behind him, Johnson’s wide receiving now has more to do with fitting furniture through the front door of a house. Will clients take this former pro athlete seriously as an interior designer? The eleven episode

half-hour series follows Johnson as he tries to negotiate exacting clients and a cast of disparate assistants all the while tackling a variety of interior design dilemmas with an eye for subtle sophistication. Given the pressures and personalities, Johnson’s famous temper is sure to be put to the test. “Style and design has always played a big part in my life and lifestyle,” says Keyshawn. “I’m excited to bring a quality aesthetic to all types of households in

the show, and help influence the way people live.” “Keyshawn is known for his skills on the field, but many will be surprised by his talent as an interior designer,” said Robert Sharenow, Senior Vice President, Nonfiction and Alternative Programming, A&E. “Documenting his process as he attempts to get his own business off the ground fits perfectly with our unique brand of real life drama." Johnson’s design team includes assistants, Sabina Vavra and Baiyina Hughley, and interns Chelsea Hernandez and Edward S. Larsen. From a master bedroom to a gourmet kitchen, a living room to a nursery, Johnson and his team will show clients how to work within their budget to make choices that make sense. As Keyshawn likes to say, “my designs speak for themselves…. as long as everyone gets out of my way and lets me do it right!” During his eleven year career as an NFL wide receiver, Johnson played for the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won a Super Bowl Championship during the 2002–2003 season. He retired in 2007 with eighthundred-fourteen receptions, sixty-four touchdowns and 10,571 yards recorded during his career. Away from the gridiron, Johnson heads up numerous business ventures including First Picks Management, a development company that focuses on franchise businesses in the food service and hospitality industries, as well as Keyshawn Capitol Development, a real estate company dealing with properties in both the residential and commercial space. Keyshawn Johnson: Tackling Design is produced for A&E by Screen Door Entertainment, Executive Producer Joel Rizor and Co-executive Producer Alessandra Ascoli. A&E Executive Producers are Robert Sharenow and Andy Berg. We're sure that Keyshawn has been asked for his autograph numerous times throughout his career, but who would

Night Lights The Latest and Greatest of Exterior Lighting to Illuminate Your Garden By Gale Steves

W

hether your motivation is to welcome guests with safety or discouraging unwanted ones with more security around the outside of your home or simply wanting to enjoy your landscape when the sun goes down, there is a whole new generation of lighting fixtures to help you achieve this goal. Low voltage fiber optics and LED lights make exterior lighting even more energy efficient. Scott Mather of Lighting by Design in Clearwater finds his clients are interested in enhancing the aesthetics of their home by rethinking and expanding existing lights. “They consider the exterior of their home another room, which needs decorating,” he adds. This opinion is echoed by landscape architect, Chris Phillips of Phillips Pool and Landscape in Bellair. Most of his landscape lighting is done to highlight specimen pieces in the garden and enhance the house itself. “The ability to enjoy the views out the window rather than seeing a dark hole is a great motivation,” states Phillips.

“Natural looking, less intrusive fixtures are in,” reports Neill Salt of Aurora Outdoor Lighting in Tampa. Think of the refined styling of stainless steel or aluminum fixtures to appear as good in the day as they do at night. Salt stocks special fixtures for docks and water areas to expand the night landscape. Lighting designers typically use four kinds of lighting to get exactly the effect they want: • Uplighting: place these fixtures for landscape accent and drama • Downlighting: safety-oriented fixtures define a pathway or light up large areas • Zonal Lighting: highlighting individual object or plants • Moonlighting: mix of uplighting and downlighting to create natural effect With all the choices available, consider using a landscape architect, lighting designer, or lighting specialist to make a big impact on your garden year round. dR

The Art of

Taking the Inside Out W

By Susan B. Barnes

ITH COOLER WEATHER (HOPEFULLY!) APPROACHING, NOW IS THE IDEAL TIME TO THINK ABOUT EXPANDING YOUR HOME INTO THE BACKYARD. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS, WHY NOT FLING OPEN THE BACKDOOR AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE BEAUTY THAT NATURE AFFORDS BY TAKING THE INDOORS OUT? WE SPOKE WITH A COUPLE OF AREA DESIGNERS ON THEIR IDEAS OF HOW TO DO JUST THAT.

Find a Focal Point Chris Phillips of Phillips Pools suggests deciding upon what you want to be the focal point of your backyard, and designing around that piece. He’s noticed his clients moving away from having their pools be the focal point of the yard, but rather having them designed to look less like a pool and blend more into the landscape. In addition, Phillips has seen his clients asking for more than outdoor kitchens, but

Carefully and thoughtfully design an outdoor living space. www.phillipspools.com

for living and dining rooms as well. “It’s a great way to extend the indoors out,” said Phillips. To help facilitate that feeling of the indoors, over the past year Phillips has received more requests for more of a solid overhang/extended roofing than pergolas, providing more of an enclosed feeling that you’d get inside a house. The best way, however, to get the backyard living space that is right for you, is to put some thought into it. Phillips works with his clients to carefully and thoughtfully design a concept that will be both aesthetically and personally pleasing.

“You know you’ve created that space when people want to be there.” www.exteriordecorating.com

Another favorite feature amongst his clients is a pondless waterfall that seems to disappear over the edge of the patio. When finishing the design, VanCoulter works with his clients to decorate depending on their lifestyles, and to ensure that the outdoor living spaces flows easily from the house.

Personalize the Space “Give people a reason to go outside, to go to that one spot you’ve designed,” is the advice that Mike VanCoulter of Earthscapes Garden Room in Palm Harbor gives his clients when beginning the design process. VanCoulter’s clients primarily want to create outdoor living spaces with features such as pergolas, patios, grills, firepits and misting systems. To better coordinate, Earthscapes integrates many of these features into packages for their clients.

Make It Cozy When beginning to work with her clients, Kim Levell of Levell Designs in Tampa first wants to take into consideration the number of people the area should comfortably fit. From there, she likes to take the same feel of the living/family room indoors and take it outside. Levell likes to consider the interior style to cozy up the outdoor space with accessories similar to those you’d find inside, such as pillows with fringe, mirrors,

lighting, ironwork, artwork, and outdoor rugs. The design should reflect that of the home, and just blend into the outdoors. Just as important to take into consideration is the ability to maintain the space. You wouldn’t want to choose, say, ironwork if it may become rusted and require a lot of maintenance, unless you have the time. That goes for plants, too! Don’t have a yard to convert into a living space? Levell encourages those in condos to convert their balconies, just as she has done. She’s taken her own 12- x 6-foot balcony and created an oasis that seats five comfortably. “You know you’ve created that space when people want to be there,” Levell said. This fall, take a look around your outdoor living space. How would you make it more inviting? Now, go ahead and make that vision a reality! dR www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay 51

APPLIANCE GALLERY, INC. KITCHEN DESIGN When starting the design or re-design of your kitchen, gone is the old adage of the kitchen triangle. Today’s kitchen design is based on the principles of function, style, and budget. There are different levels in which these principles have priority. Someone may prefer function over style or may expand the budget to allow for more of both. Also within each principle are levels of priority. The dishwasher may take priority over the refrigerator, or cooking could be your hot button. The function principle covers your wants, needs, and restrictions for use of your space. The style principle is complementing your home, color choices, cabinets, countertops, flooring, hardware, appliances, back splash, and accessories. Budget as a principle is your overall availability of funds for the job, including all phases. Remember to allow for electrical, plumbing, permits, and possible changes.

FRANCO A. PASQUALE DESIGN ASSOCIATES In the world of interior design, one company stands out. For over fifteen years, Pasquale Design Associates has been producing award-winning and imaginative interiors. Headquartered in Tampa; Pasquale and his team are guided by the principle that true quality interiors are achieved by paying attention to the smallest details. With Florida Licensed Interior Designers and a LEED Accredited Professional on staff, Pasquale Design offers a wide variety of services from full-service design and management to hourly consultation. Whether a new construction or remodel, they can assist with space planning, lighting design, furniture and fabric selections, sustainability goals such as LEED certification, and project management. From the initial client meeting until completion, this impressive design team monitors every detail of the project to guarantee their client's satisfaction. “We strive to approach each undertaking as a unique opportunity to create both beautiful and comfortable environments that carefully balance our client's taste and lifestyle.”

The process of remodeling a kitchen or bathroom requires skillful planning, creative design, and a sense of personal value. Using a designer certified by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) makes this process easier. NKBA Certification is based on in-depth testing extensive experience and annual education (CEU) requirements. They are skilled at assessing their clients’ needs and desires to create distinctive, timeless, aesthetically pleasing environments that meet both building codes and safety requirements. Each project begins with an individualized design and ends with the customer’s complete satisfaction. Homeowners need to be active in the design phases. It is helpful when they bring magazine photos they like or dislike showing products, elements, colors, layouts, styles, etc., to the first meeting. Also, think about any special needs: dietary, physical, religious, etc. It is helpful to have an idea of your anticipated style or “theme.” Another very important element is a budget figure so the design can be done in those parameters. Prices vary depending on design elements: cabinet styles, tile selections, countertop choices, finishes, etc. Lastly, allow enough time. It takes four to six consultations to perfect the design and often up to twelve weeks to build the cabinets.

PHILLIPS POOLS & LANDSCAPE The majority of our clients come to us with a basic idea of a particular style of landscape or outdoor amenity they would like to achieve within their property and perhaps a few favorite plant varieties. Our firm’s key role in the design process is the creation of a complete outdoor environment that not only includes landscape plantings, but integrates pools and water features, patios and walkways, lanais or cabanas, outdoor kitchens, and lighting. Our design goal is to seamlessly blend together these hardscape elements with a combination of plant materials that define a particular style while achieving the client’s goals of screening or accenting a view, establishing shade patterns, and defining attractive activity areas; while taking into account the physical geographic location of the property and the various micro-climates within. The proper selection and integration of plants that will thrive and endure within the scale of the areas where placed is based upon solar exposure, ultimate low winter temperature, wind, salt exposure, drainage, soil type, and irrigation restrictions. All of these are critical in establishing a landscaped environment that not only accentuates the residence but endures for decades with a minimum of care.

This moves the project away from the “finger pointing” that is often commonplace in contemporary construction projects and allows the owner to look to one entity with any questions or concerns. Our clients prefer to have just one entity to deal with. Design revisions, project feedback, budgeting, permitting, construction issues, change orders, and billing can be routed through our design-build firm. Our objective is to build long-term relationships with our customers through excellent design, superior service, and quality construction.

Villa Eden

A Bayside Italian Villa In 1879, Mr. Morrison hired F.W. Colby, the patentee of the process for making artificial stone, to build Villa Eden. Mr. Colby hand-molded decorative stones creating hearts, rosebuds, and shields, and built an authentic tower—all of which were true to the concept of Italianate houses. From the tower room and the deck, you have sweeping views of Tampa’s skyline and the bay. The 6,391-square-foot three-story villa features four bedrooms, three full and two-half baths, a guesthouse, and a threecar garage. An elegant, warm, and inviting atmosphere has been created with the blending of antiques and traditional furnishings. There are six fireplaces all unique in size and design—from formal to rustic. The bathrooms feature claw-foot tubs, and marble counters, while the bedrooms have fireplaces and wrought iron or brass beds. Marble is carried throughout the house in countertops and tabletops. Butterfly McQueen, Prissy in Gone With the Wind, played here as a child—her mother was employed as a cook giving Villa Eden a claim to fame. The Tampa Historic Preservation Society has recognized Villa Eden as the oldest exiting residence in Tampa. Listed by Mary Esther Parker, Smith & Associates, 813-6101500, mesp96@aol.com. The healthy menu offers intriguing combos, such as the don’t-knock-it-until-youtry-it banana-eel roll and Asian guacamole served with wonton chips. Dinner only: Seven days a week. Singer/songwriter Anne McCue’s latest album, East Of Electric was inspired by the golden era of folk pop music which took place in the late 1960s. "I wanted to stay close to that late ‘60s folk rock ethic, keeping it real, not adding too much instrumentation, keeping the story and the melody in the forefront…being included on the ‘4 Decades of Folk Rock anthology encouraged me to follow the [folk rock path] and style which I am naturally inclined toward anyway,” said McCue. f you drive as far south as you can go on Clearwater Beach, you will find yourself at the foot of a bridge. That bridge might look at first like any other, but this is no ordinary bridge because this bridge will take you to a destination of culinary wonders and flavors that will make any drive, no matter the distance, a worthwhile endeavor. The Watercolour Steakhouse and Grille is located on the ground floor of the Marriott Suites of Clearwater Beach and Sand Key. The location sets the perfect stage for a dining experience to remember. The elegantly decorated restaurant features two levels of seating, with one that runs along floor-to-ceiling glass windows perched just a few feet above the Intercostals Waterway. The view is panoramic, breathtaking, and extends for

what seems like hundreds of feet. The restaurant staff is very aware of each diner’s presence and pays attention to every detail from the moment you arrive. You get the feeling that it starts at the top from Hotel General Manager, Phillippe Eversdjik and Watercolour, restaurant General Manager, Kurt Leahy. They bring an approach of total service to the dining process that leaves you feeling that you might have gone on vacation, even if it is for only a couple of hours. The service at Watercolour is simply put, superlative. That leads us to the kitchen and the handiwork of Chef, Jason Poulakis. What chef Jason and his team are capable of delivering to your table is an experience in mouth-watering steaks, poultry, and seafood specialties that could land him a victory on

Watercolour Steakhouse and Grille Marriott Suites Clearwater Beach on Sand Key 1201 Gulf Boulevard Clearwater Beach, FL 727-953-1661 www.watercolourgrille.com the Food Networks’ Iron Chef competition. Almost anything you could imagine, from a wide variety of appetizers, soups, gourmet salads, succulent crab cakes, and bacon wrapped barbecue shrimp, seafood, steaks, and other signature entrees that will please virtually any taste requisite imaginable. On this trip to Watercolour, however, we focused on chef Poulakis' signature entree, Lobster Spaghetti. It was amazing! The portion was enough to easily serve two hungry foodies with an amazingly seasoned tomato-cream based sauce and lobster meat piled high on top! What else can we say? Here is the recipe for this culinary masterpiece—for those of you brave and adventurous in the kitchen.

Lobster Spaghetti 1.5 pounds lobster meat (knuckle and claw) 2 tablespoons chopped garlic 2 tablespoons chopped basil 1 cup diced red onion 1 cup diced yellow, red, and green bell pepper 1 cup diced Roma tomatoes 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil 3 cups heavy cream 3/4 cup white wine 2 tablespoons lobster stock 1 pound spaghetti Shaved Parmesan (to taste) Salt and pepper (to taste) Heat olive oil in large sauté pan over medium heat, add garlic, peppers, onions and sauté lightly. Add tomatoes, basil, wine, lobster stock, heavy cream, salt and pepper. Reduce by half. Add lobster meat, toss with pasta and heat thoroughly. Top with freshly shaved Parmesan cheese. Serves 4

This ranking is based on tickets sold to concerts and events from April 16 to May 15 2009. Additionally, Pollstar, another leading entertainment industry trade publication, recently announced that Ruth Eckerd Hall is ranked number three in the world in venues having 2,500 seats or less and number nine in venues having 10,000 seats or less. Within that same ranking, Ruth Eckerd Hall is number two in Florida and number one in Central Florida during the three-month period of January to March. Designed by the prestigious Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, Ruth Eckerd Hall, a non-profit organization, is known for its 2,180seat, acoustically perfect auditorium.
