HAUTE
CO
DIDIT HEDIPRASETYO Sleek, sophisticated, and strict. Using a palate of navy blue, black, and white, he showed an assortment of cocktail and eveningwear paired with the most elegant baseball caps ever seen. Standout pieces included a black ostrich tee shirt, a tuxedo cape in nubby wool and satin, and a tough tuxedoinspired leather jacket.
A new season is upon us, and with it comes a bevy of new trends that unfolded this past July in Paris. This season in particular, the haute couture shows were poignant and focused, offering countless looks that converged into a few key trends for Fall/Winter 2013.

STÉPHANE ROLLAND This moodier collection used black and navy to lend a romantic air, with flashes of white at the collar and cuffs the only true points of light in the story. Draped collars, capes, and sleeves floated by diaphanously, as bright white origami folds anchored some otherwise fluid looks.

OSCAR CARVALLO Oscar Carvallo invited guests to take flight this season. A series of gilded avian-inspired looks elegantly fluttered down the runway. Lovely lace and beautiful embroidery touched almost every piece in the collection of mostly cocktail and evening gowns. Photos courtesy of StĂŠphane Rolland

ELIE SAAB Throughout the collection, dresses and trains were embroidered with gem-colored crystals: emerald green, ruby red and sapphire blue, broken up by silvery reflective sheaths shimmering as they moved. Gowns featured asymmetric curved necklines and revealed backs that had been cut into the pear and oval shapes of jewels.

ULYANA SERGEENKO The Russian billionaire street style star showed her third couture collection this season. The looks were an homage to her Russian heritage: heavy wools, rich velvets, and tons of fur anchored the silhouettes, as square necklines, princess seams, and sweeping skirts told a story of a centuries-old mother Russia. JEAN-PAUL GAULTIER Strong, structured leopard and leather looks marched down the runway, all paired with massive up-dos, conical cocktail hats, and sheer hosiery dotted with animal motifs. Standout looks included a few oversized fur jackets thrown over day dresses, a top-heavy quilted red skirt suit, and an angular black sheath with leopard cuffs.
Photos courtesy of Christophe Josse
CHRISTOPHE JOSSE A palate of warm whites, beiges, ecrus, and taupes showed the brighter side of the season to come. Flowing dresses and gowns, a Josse signature, were much looser and more draped than in seasons past, and double faced cashmere-wool coats and capes were either embroidered with gleaming gold thread or heat-embossed in a beautiful paisley motif. Photos courtesy of Gaultier Paris

ZUHAIR MURAD Zuhair Murad showed 46 bedazzled evening gowns in royal shades of black, blue, burgundy, and green. Gowns were embroidered in an elegant branch motif, and another blue number was “rooted” with ostrich feathers. A few Art Deco motifs also presented themselves and were the sleekest looks in the show.

CHANEL A past-meets-future mélange in blacks, greys, and blues. Jackets and dresses were decidedly more relaxed and draped than in seasons past, with structured square shoulders and wide belts wrapped around the hips. Strips of silk taffeta and tulle were woven together and embroidered with sequins for a shimmery tweed effect that was both edgy and decadent. dR Photos courtesy of Zuhair Murad

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
By Melinda Tam Orlando
Discover the latest trends in men’s elective cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic procedures used to be just commonplace for mostly women, but that’s changing. A study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates more men than ever are having cosmetic procedures, looking for an edge over the inevitable aging process. So, why are more men joining the cosmetic-procedure club? We asked three top doctors that very question, and uncovered the top trends in men’s elective procedures. Dr. Jasmine Mohadjer Eye Institute of West Florida, Largo “As cosmetic procedures are becoming more readily available and are more acceptable, more and more men are taking advantage,” Mohadjer explains. “It’s becoming more commonplace, and men want it, too. And they will come into my office with very specific concerns.” As a fellowship-trained, board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cosmetic and reconstructive oculofacial plastic surgery, Mohadjer treats a wide range of conditions, including droopy eyelids, heavy under-eye bags or weak eyelid muscles where the lid’s edge covers the eye compromising vision. “When I first started my practice, I used to hear people say they didn’t know anything could be done,” Mohadjer says. “They thought they just had to live with it, but surgery can address all these concern with little recovery time.” She goes on to add, " Possibly what men appreciate most is the discretion of having a natural-looking outcome. That is always a big concern." Botox treatments, fillers and laser-skin resurfacing are additional treatment options offered at the Eye Institute, and Mohadjer’s clients are taking advantage well into their nineties. 727-581-8706 or www.eyespecialist.com
Dr. Eric Egozi Clearwater Center for Cosmetic Surgery, Clearwater “It’s becoming more and more acceptable,” Egozi agrees. “Men are living longer and remaining active longer in life, so they want to look as good as they feel.” Egozi is a board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon, having trained with some of the nation’s best cosmetic plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and he sees three main patient complaints at his practice: looseness of the neck, eye lids that make them look tired or serious, and nasolabial folds. “The neck is usually their No. 1 concern, and a neck lift can address that.” Egozi explains. And his patients, who range in age from 45 to 75, can be presentable in as little as 10 days after the procedure. “My patients feel better about themselves and have more confidence after the procedures,” Egozi boasts. “I’ve had a number of wives say their husbands are acting more confident and are willing to do more things and go out when they would have stayed home in the past.” 727-461-5872 or www.egoziplasticsurgery.com

“Some men don’t want to have surgery and there’s a lot more to offer now that doesn’t include surgery,” Elliott says. “Men want to look younger and be competitive on the job, so they’re more willing to go ahead if they don’t have to take some time off work.” Board-certified owner of Skinspirations, Elliott specializes exclusively in rejuvenation, enhancement and anti-aging treatments for the face and body. Her patients are mostly concerned with brown spots or age spots, acne scars, depressions in the skin and baggy, tired under-eyes, which can all be addressed with fillers and lasers. “I can use lasers to replace old skin with new skin, and that can easily make you look 10 years younger when it’s done under the eye.” Plus, there’s virtually no downtime for brown-spot removal and fillers. For laser resurfacing, a patient could experience a short down time of one week. “A lot of people say, ‘I can’t believe I waited this long, and I should’ve listened to my wife earlier,’” Elliott boasts. “They’re really surprised how people treated them after the treatments. People suddenly think you look more friendly when you are not any different than you were before.” 727-571-1923 or www.skinspirations.com

DINING . . . IT’S ALL ABOUT THE ROOM
By Susan B. Barnes

When guests come over for dinner, it’s nearly inevitable that hours will be spent around the dining table, sharing stories and catching up on each other’s lives. With time like that spent in one room of the house, you probably want it to be comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. According to Mark Cooper, general manager with Heritage House Home Interiors, dining rooms have become a lot more casual overall. “Formal dining and fine china are becoming obsolete,” said Cooper. “We’re seeing architects create kitchens that open up into open spaces rather than formal dining room.” Sophisticated looks, borrowing from Paris and midcentury modern, are the trends that Cooper’s seeing in the market, and are what his clients are looking for in their homes. Adding to the casual look, rather than

buying complete dining suits, clients are buying a table and accenting with fun, often mismatched chairs. “They’re kind of creating their own personality,” said Cooper. “There’s a lot of back and forth play, mixing chairs with custom fabrics from one manufacture to a table from another.” Dining tables are still sophisticated, but less traditional in the sense of carvings and stains. Cooper sees popular table finishes in mid-tones, almost gray and driftwood tones, rather than the darker tones that have been popular in the past.
On the floor and windows—even lighting—the casual yet sophisticated look and feel carries through. “Area rugs underneath dining tables are much more transitional with patterns—a lot of color and texture,” said Cooper. “We’re not seeing so much of the traditional Oriental rug look.” Clients also want to take more advantage of their outside views, opting for shutters or side panels instead of traditional, heavy window treatments. Texture comes into play here, too, with linens and slubby materials to give a softer look.
“I can’t remember the last time someone asked for a brass or crystal chandelier,” Cooper said. Instead, clients are looking for interesting and unusual lighting fixtures with a combination of textures. “Maybe crystal with metal and natural shades. We’ve seen a lot of bead work, too, where there’s a lot going on, but not all the glitz and glamour and bling—bling has gone away.” Brigette Pina, store manager with Ethan Allen, echoes Cooper’s sentiment regarding the trend in color in dining room chairs; it’s what they refer to as the new eclecticism.

Details reminiscent of the South Pacific, such as bamboo or other lightly-toned woods, are becoming more commonplace in Tampa Bay dining areas.
“Even going into fall, we’re seeing a lot of bright and happy colors,” said Pina. “Colors you wouldn’t imagine around the room: maybe a brown wooden table with green chairs, or hot pink or hot green chairs at the head of the table. One of our clients even did different colors for every chair, all around her table.” Above all, Pina noted that her clients are looking for woods and textures that they can live with, that they can use with their families. When it comes to dining rooms, Annabelle Johns, president of familyowned Annabelle’s Fine Home Furnish-
46 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay
ings & Decorative Accessories, is noticing that her clients are seeking larger tables that can seat ten chairs. “We think that people must be entertaining in their homes more,” said Johns. “The tables that we carry have extra leaves so that they can be extended to seat ten, or a family of four.” Johns has also noticed that buffets are on trend in regards to storage, instead of china cabinets. “People don’t want to display grandma’s china, but still want someplace to keep it that looks nice.” As far as dining table tops, “We’ve seen more people going with wood than
glass tops,” said Carol Brawner, owner of Bronze Lady Home Furnishings. She’s also noticed that her clients are opting for rattan chairs that accent the table. “On the coastal living side, we see a lot of people doing a white table with maybe a green chair,” Brawner said. And on the tropical side, clients are going for a West Indies look with a darker chair to accent the table. Though they have a very impressive display of all types of contemporary furniture at Home Resource, dining tables may just take center stage. “The thing that’s most exciting to us right now is a German company—

Adjustable completely by hand, Draenert’s custom made tables offer ancient, elegant stonework and unique designs.
Draenert,” said Michael Bush, owner, Home Resource. “They produce magic.” What’s so magical? Draenert has patented a mechanism that affords the owner to effortlessly extend one of their stone top tables—think granite, marble, limestone—with just one hand. Each of Draenert’s tables are custom-made. Bush, General Manager Eric
Cross and their team work with clients to create customized masterpieces. With more than 200 stones available, in different colors and textures, cut to size, that can be time-intensive, but the results are stunning. “When you walk into Draenert’s stone garden, the ‘youngest’ stone is over a million years old,” said Bush. “We
worked on a table for a St. Pete penthouse, and the stone was 500 million years old.” Bush and Cross are also working with an Austrian company, Team7, on solid wood tables that are just as customizable. dR

LUXURY UPGRADES THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Options for the Garage Moduline’s extruded aluminum cabinets are perfect for the garage environment because they won’t rust, corrode or mildew, even with fluctuations in 48 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay

Imagine touching “entertainment” on your iPad® and by the time you walk in the door, the lights are on, the music is playing, the shades are up and the news is on the flat screen. “That’s the beauty of technology,” says Jeff Harris, owner and founder of Hive, which specializes in home automation and security systems. “It’s all about simplifying your life. You can totally program the entire house to meet your needs.” Simplifying and organizing your life is a task that comes naturally to Wayne Smith of Southern Closet Systems. But the company is not just limited to closet systems inside the house; they can do wonders for the garage. “Since few homes in Florida have basements and attic space is typically very limited, the garages can quickly become so cluttered there’s little room for the car,” says Smith. “Custom-designed storage closets in the garage can make a huge difference in the feel and look of the room.” But it’s not just organization that many luxury homeowners are seeking for the garage. “Not Your Grandfather’s Garage,” is how Moduline Cabinets refers to the new trend that transforms the garage into an extension of the home. “Many of our customers are taking it to the next level by involving architects and designers and adding items like sinks and refrigerators,” says Jonathan Barboza of Moduline Cabinets. “If you have a beautiful home, why not make the garage attractive, too?”

temperature and humidity levels, says Barboza. The company’s products are custom-designed, hand-assembled and fully modular, making it possible to create any depth, width or configuration required. “Our customers are used to getting what they want,” says Moduline Sales Manger Tim Cass. “We help them come up with the right solution, whether they are creating the garage as a hobby room

or work space, or a showroom for a collection of luxury cars.” Southern Closets carries Moduline Cabinets, as well as a line of melamine cabinets in a variety of colors and finishes, and a full line of metal cabinets. “We have something for every price point,” says Smith. Because you don’t want beautiful cabinets and an ugly cement floor, Southern Closets offers a customized
epoxy product that is extremely durable and available in a variety of colors and finishes. The end result is upscale look that adds the finishing touch for the garage, says Smith. For those over-sized items, such as beach chairs, lawn equipment, ladders and bikes, don’t risk the possibility that they might scratch your car, says Smith. Get them off the garage floor and up on the wall. Southern Closets offers items
like Omni Track’s wall-mounted organizational systems, which save space, are versatile and attractive.

Elevators The decision to install a home elevator may be practical—easier access to multiple levels or difficulty climbing stairs, but that doesn’t mean the elevator can’t be customized with an attractive style to fit your home’s interior design. For example, glass elevators can offer a sleek, minimalist style for contemporary homes, while dark wood panels fit nicely into more classic, traditional homes. John Scranton of Precision Elevator Services of Florida offers clients the option of exotic hardwoods and mirrored or glass paneled walls to create a signature look that balances form, function and style. A recent project for two luxury homes included spectacular custom-designed semi-circular elevators in a dark cherry wood to fit the homeowner’s design specifications. One elevator features a combination of glass and wood with wrought iron spindles and wire mesh in the glass-paneled sides of the cab, while the other incorporates curved wood doors and a
curved wood cab. “Both elevators were very interesting and challenging to build and very rewarding at the end to see how they beautifully turned out,” says Scranton.
Home Theaters If you appreciate the best in home entertainment, Easy Living With Technology has the “toys” to make the neighbors envious. Here are three items to put on your wish list. There’s the Kaleidescape, a premier movie server that allows you to digitally store, organize and manage your entire movie and music collection. The Savant SmartView Video Tiling technology gives you the ability to watch several videos simultaneously on one large screen. And, the Stewart CineCurve screen, a top-quality screen for the residential market, replicates the curve and feel of a commercial move theater screen. But once you have what Mike Stram of Easy Living With Technology calls all the “cool stuff” you’ll want a media room that uses the technology to its best advantage. “If you have a great little sports car, wouldn’t it be amazing to have your own personal race track?”

says Stram. “Today’s media rooms are just like that.” What are the right ingredients the perfect media room? In addition to technology, “it’s the little details that make all the difference and give the space that finished look and awesome vibe,” says Stram. “You’ll want to consider lighting, room design, fabrics, seating, the technology and even acoustic paneling on the doors to help soundproof the room.”

Queen, king and California king models are available, and so is a single “spa” bed that can be set up in a guest room, home fitness center or spa room. Today’s luxury homebuyers are not only discriminating, they want their home to be a refuge—a place to unwind from the day-to-day grind. Why not make sure you have everything you need right at your fingertips? A home theater, custom-designed garage, signature elevator, home automation system or amazing bed are the perfect antidotes to stress. dR

INTERIOR DESIGN

Above: Whereas bedrooms used to boast a different home, designers in Tampa Bay are seeing a trend tocolors throughout homes. Right: Designs inspired by nature and monochromatic mentality out the door.
Aesthetics, Functionality and Teamwork When it comes to interior design, beauty certainly is in the eye of the beholder. That being said, like fashion, interior design trends come and go, and sometimes the easiest way to navigate the design highway is with a professional. We talked with a handful of local interior designers about what’s on trend right now, and how their firms work with their clients. 54 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay
“For the longest time, you’d see colors in the public areas of estates or homes, and then another color in the bedrooms— a lot of beiges and creams,” recounted Enrique Crespo, partner with Casa Nova Design Group. “It really depends on their aesthetics, but our clients are moving more towards grays, whether modern and cooler, or more traditional and creamy.”
New construction or remodeling, Crespo and his team pay attention to every detail of a project’s interior finishes, from door handles to hard finishes like flooring and lighting. Johnnie Alicandro, president of Alicandro Interiors & Associates, Inc., travels the world for inspiration, and brings what she finds back to her clients. “The world is my

selection of ideas, and I’m always looking for what’s next.” Back here in the Tampa Bay area, she’s finding that, after a hectic day, her clients are going with simplicity at home—more monochromatic, very pure and very urban. And, if there is color in the palate, it’s usually a pop, rather than the strong colors found in

homes ten years ago. “If they do a gray, they’ll put a yellow with it instead of a red,” Alicandro said. “The pendulum has swung, and it’s all about sophistication and simplicity. Less is certainly more, whereas before, more was more.” Six designers work on renovation projects in-house at Décor Studio 1, a hybrid studio, according to partner Tom Rodgers. All of the designers are CAD-literate, and as the design process evolves, they can produce 3-D renderings of the concepts, “very HDTV-like.” How is Décor Studio 1 a hybrid, then? In addition to its team of in-house designers, the studio works with furniture lines such as Tommy Bahama, Lexington, Capris and Cambridge Mills to provide a seamless process for its clients. What’s more, they’re the exclusive dealer of Norwalk Furniture, which is all custom-designed to suit clients’ tastes. “While we do a lot in house, we do work with outside sources if there’s a specific item we don’t have in-house, like an antique door to be used as a wall hanging,” which is what one of their clients asked for, said Rodgers. At Pat Pankow Interiors, Pat’s approach to design is very handson, which is evident when you step into her showroom. “It’s fixed up like a store, so my clients can touch and feel and see just what they’re choosing,” said Pankow. “We’ll put notes on what they like, and do what we can to fit their budgets.” Once choices are made, they’re taken right into the clients’ homes, where Pankow herself puts everything together to see how it works; “We take it out if it doesn’t.” At the end of the day, it’s most important to Pankow that she and her clients are proud of the results. “I really want to leave someone with a room that says, ‘job well done!’,” said Pankow. Suzan Decker Ross, principal of Decker Ross Interiors, has noticed an upswing in building,“ which is wonderful.” “We’re working with builders again, and that helps the industry throughout, from builders to furnishings to design aspects,” Decker Ross said. Not only does Decker Ross and her team work closely with builders, but with their clients as well. The firm works in three design teams of two, certainly lending creed to the “two heads are better than one” philosophy. “It’s a huge benefit to our clients,” said Decker Ross. “Two different designers on a project—the ideas just start to flow from their creative minds.”
When working with the architect, interior designers can create a more unified appearance for any room or home, ensuring that no design elements conflict.

When customizing the interior of your home, it is important to select a design team that works cohesively and takes into account all of your wishes and expectations. This can help ensure your complete satisfaction and comfort with your own living space.
The team approach is the way of work, too, at Classic Builders, whose primary business is new construction. Clients are part of that team, too, and the teamwork begins early. “We have a 15-page questionnaire that the client completes before we even start to think about design,” said Steven Fisher, president, Classic Builders. “That way, we can understand the client’s level of expectations, as well as needs versus wants.” When the design process begins, the budget is discussed up front and the design is then created around that feedback. “Having a builder as part of your design team ensures customers’ design budgets are met from the start,” said Fisher. Collaboration always leads to the best results, whether for the final product or final budget. It can be difficult to keep up with the changes in trends; it’s more ex60 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay
pensive to redesign a living room than it is to buy this season’s new shoes. But when a new pattern, or lack thereof,
catches your eye, it’s best to be up front and friendly, and to select a team that is the same. dR

KITCHENS AND BATHS AND TRENDS – OH MY! Whether gathering around the kitchen with friends and family, or retreating to a relaxed bath at day’s end, one thing is certain—kitchens and baths are just as much a part of design trends as any other part of the house. “One of the things we’re definitely seeing is a cleaner look—cleaner lines,” said Beth Ann Tuyls, department manager with UMI The Source, and national board member of the Interior Design Society. “Simplicty is a big part of the design.” Color palates have changed, too, according to Tuyls. Instead of warm tones— tans, browns and reds—today’s colors are cooler, more grays and silvers, “today’s
neutrals,” sometimes with a pop of color as an accent. And those colors aren’t just in fabrics and paints, but stones and tiles, too. While patterns in complimentary fabrics are larger and large-scale geometrics are still popular, countertops are going the way of cleaner patterns. “Quartzite is very popular—it takes on the characteristic of marble instead of granite,” said Tuyls. “We can’t seem to keep it on our shelves!” That trend towards cleaner lines and grays is evident to Ralph Mills, creative director at Artisan Design, too. “We are definitely seeing an uptick in the more straight-line, modern kitchens

and baths,” said Mills. “That’s not to be confused with contemporary, though.” As far as cabinets, metal framing is popular, and even “a combination of metal framing uppers and textured wood lowers.” Mills said that he’s seeing a lot more of the old barnyard-style hardwood, as well as cabinet doors that swing back and forth rather than forward. “We’re calling it the new traditionalism— a lot of metal, glass and wood working together,” said Mills. “Cabinetry is almost considered furniture pieces these days.” For example, Mills recalled a breakfast bar project: textured wood, wrapped with granite on the top and sides, finished with

frosted glass, much like a sushi bar. Nancy Braamse, owner of Olde World Cabinetry, chimed in, too, on the trend towards cleaner lines and cooler palates, including the aforementioned grays and even shiny, laquer whites. “Our industry follows the fashion industry when it comes to trends,” said Braamse. “We’re seeing much cleaner lines and a shift towards European-style cabinetry. Everyone is simplifying.” On countertops, Braamse is seeing a
movement away from shiny quartz to leathered, textured quartz, and zinc countertops are coming into play. They’re getting thinner, too, “as thin as a half inch.” Ray Cintron, designer and owner of R & K Kitchens & Baths dba Kuttler Kitchens agrees, and sees quartz being used in more than countertops. “People are thinking of alternatives to stainless-steel sinks,” Cintron said. “They’re looking at quartz sinks, which are low-maintenance and come in lots of

colors that are good contrasts between materials being used in the kitchen.” Fixtures in kitchens and baths are also trending towards contemporary, mid-century modern, according to Julian Exclusa with Ferguson Kitchen, Bath and Lighting. He’s noticed that his clients are choosing Kallista, meaning “most beautiful in Greek,” by Kohler, and Dornbracht and Hansgrohe, both German brands with very clean lines. “A lot of American brands are starting to follow that look,” said Exclusa. Rather than granite, countertops in both kitchens and baths are trending towards quartz or silestone with less grain and movement. What about lighting? “Lighting is just about all recessed LED three-inch cans,” said Exclusa. He’s seen them installed under and over cabinets in both kitchens and baths, providing dramatic lighting effects. Cintron agrees, and adds that LED lights are cool in terms of heat output, and won’t “bake what’s in your cabinets” when used underneath. When it comes to appliances, Lynn Kislin, owner of Appliance Gallery, says that stainless steel is still very popular, and that gas stovetops remain desirable. “If gas is not available, we see our clients opt for induction cooktops,” said Kislin. “Most people prefer their ovens and cooktops separate, so this option works out well.” Of the product lines offered at Appliance Gallery, Kislin said that the high-end options such as Viking, Wolf and Miele are commonly selected by her clients.

It’s not all about fixtures and countertops when it comes to kitchen and bath design, though. Marla Davidson with Marla Davidson Tile & Stone has noticed that decorative patterns are in demand with her clients, especially for the most discriminating. “We see this style in a variety of sizes and applications, for walls and floors,” said Davidson. “Designs are available in traditional and contemporary, or a combination of both,” which suits her clients’ tastes. No matter where the tiling—floor, walls, or even ceilings—Ryan Sachs, sales manager with Stone-Mart, says the hot colors are white and silver—“we can’t bring in enough!” Whether building new or remodeling your kitchen or bath, there’s a lot to choose from to really reflect your own sense of style, and these designers can help you make your mark. “It’s a neat time in the market,” said Braamse with Olde World Cabinetry. “Everyone’s trying to push the envelope a little more—it’s a lot of fun.” dR 70 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay
Though most clients opt for gas cooktops, many select an induction stove top when gas is unavailable, adding to a modern appearance and easier cleaning.

beach homes abutting the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico. There is a timeless aesthetic to this particular beach home ideally situated above the low lying dunes and sea oats. 521 MANDALAY AVENUE #1402 The most view comprehensive penthouse on all of Clearwater Beach As with all great developments, there is usually a background story and Belle Harbor is no exception to that rule. When first conceived of, Belle Harbor was named for a beautiful harbor, or port of call, reminiscent of classical Mediterranean architecture found on the Amalfi Coast, Portofino and Positano. Though certain of their conviction that their concept would sell, the developers remained leery that some condo buyers would be reticent of purchasing on the Bayside of Clearwater Beach. In an effort to perhaps overcompensate, the result remains spectacular by any calculation. Over six acres of tangible amenities grace the Belle Harbor compound with state-of-the-art fitness, a dedicated two story clubhouse, seaside pool with spa, multiple social and billiards rooms. Within the two Belle Harbor towers, the north side of the Mirasol building offers wholly unobstructed gulf, coastline, channel, sound, Honeymoon and Caladesi Island exposures clear to Dunedin and beyond. This spectacular fourteenth floor corner Seaview Penthouse offers four thousand square feet encompassing three bedrooms, formal living and dining areas, den and family room. A rare and most coveted sixty-foot boat slip conveys in the sale of this remarkable property. Encased in marble, granite, custom wood cabinetry, heirloom lighting, and timeless mouldings, the appointments are profound. This exquisite penthouse is offered for $2,250,000 by Rafal Wazio, Engel & Volkers. 727.424.4629. www.rafalwazio.com dR 82 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay

A SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE
By Melinda Tam Orlando
The Maritana Grille at the Loews Don CeSar, St. Pete Beach
Known as Florida's "Pink Palace," the Loews Don CeSar Hotel offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico, luxurious overnight accommodations, an over-thetop spa facility and more. But are you well-acquainted with the hotel’s signature restaurant? Get ready to immerse yourself in a dining experience like no other. The award-winning Maritana Grille features an array of menu choices, including seafood dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. The fresh, new menu was recently designed by the restaurant’s culinary team, lead by Executive Chef Kenny Hunsberger and Chef de Cuisine Gavin Pera. “The menu itself is prominently seafood, and we keep it as local as possible,” Hunsberger explains. “We also try and be cutting-edge with our cooking techniques so we might accent a dish with smoke, ice or some fun elements, but at the end of the day, it’s all about taste.” And it’s that taste that keep locals and out-of-town visitors coming back and critics 100 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay
continuing to rave about the grille. The Maritana Grille was voted one of the Top 10 seafood restaurants in the United States by the Gayot Guide, and has received AAA's 4-Diamond Rating for the past 15 years among other of esteemed honors. Popular dishes include Black Grouper, Gulf Snapper, Cobia and Venison (Hunsberger gets a revolt whenever he tries to take Venison off the menu so its removal is always short-lived due to its popularity). However, the menus change seasonally every four to five weeks, allowing the 70plus dining guests the restaurant seats each night to explore a new treat. The restaurant’s new tasting menus, created in celebration of the Don CeSar’s 85th anniversary, have also been a big hit. The experience generally consists of six courses with pre-selected wine pairings. Menus can change every day to every other day, allowing the culinary team some room for creativity. “It’s been really popular,” Hunsberger boasts. “The menus are going to be more of an evolving concept, but guests seem
to really enjoy the tasting experience.” But your tastebuds won’t be the only sense delighted on your trip to the Maritana Grille. Your sense of sight also gets a real treat. Enjoy the 1,500 gallons of saltwater aquariums that line the restaurant. Filled with colorful, native Florida fish, these four tanks make for some of the best seats in the house. “One of the aquariums has an eel that has been here forever, and his name is ‘Cesar,’” Hunsberger explains. “And you wouldn’t believe how many people request Table 41 because they have to sit by Cesar.” A few other exclusive features include two certified sommeliers, helping you select from more than 400 wines from around the world. Or take your meal to the ultimate in luxury by reserving the THE MARITANA GRILLE Loews Don CeSar Hotel 3400 Gulf Boulevard, St. Pete Beach 727-360-1882 loewshotels.com/restaurants/the maritana-grille
intimate Chef’s Table, a meal featuring a five-course tasting menu, chosen especially for you by the Chef, with the Sommelier carefully choosing wine for each course. Need space for more than eight guests? The private dining room is for you, with seating up to 14. The staff will even help you plan the menu.
Pan-Seared Halibut For Vegetable Stock 2 onions 2 carrots 2 celery stalks 1 head garlic Bunch thyme 4 peppercorns 1 bay leaf 1 gallon water Rough chop all vegetables and split garlic head in half, leaving paper intact. In a large stock pot, add all ingredients and bring to a simmer. Hold simmer for 15 minutes, and then turn off heat and let stock rest for another 30 minutes. Strain
through a fine strainer and reserve. For the Farro 1/2 onion 3 cloves garlic 1 cup white wine 1 pint farro Finely dice the onion and thinly slice the garlic. Sauté the onions and garlic until soft and translucent. Once the vegetables begin to break down, deglaze with white wine. Add farro and reduce wine until it is almost gone. Then add hot vegetable stock to the farro, one cup at a time until farro is cooked. It should take no more than 1.5 quarts. When farro is tender, remove from heat and cool. To Assemble the Dish 2 sauté pans 1 ounce pure olive oil 2 ounces pearl onions 1/2 cup white wine 3 tablespoon butter 1 pint cooked farro 3 ounces vegetable stock 2 ounces fava beans, shucked
and blanched 2 ounces ripe stone fruit, diced (plums work great, so do peaches) Pinch chopped parsley Halibut Salt and pepper In a sauté pan, add a 2 teaspoons pure olive oil, onions, wine and 2 tablespoons butter. Cook until onions are soft and wine is almost gone. Then add cooked farro and vegetable stock and heat. Once hot, add fava beans, stone fruit, herbs and another tablespoon cold butter. Season with salt and pepper. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Season the halibut with salt on both sides. In a sauté pan on high heat, add olive oil and let the halibut cook until the edges are golden brown. Turn heat down to medium after two minutes, and place the saute pan with halibut in the oven without flipping it over. Cook in oven until halibut is cooked through. Add remaining butter and flip fish over basting the golden-brown crust with the melted butter from pan. Serve. dR

In 2013 alone, Maserati has not only produced record profits, but also some of the greatest cars in the Italian automaker’s long history. One model which stands out this year is undoubtedly the all-new Ghibli, a name not used by Maserati since the 1970s. Being shorter, lighter, smaller, more dynamic, more economical and less expensive than the flagship Quattroporte is what makes the Ghibli stand out from the current Maserati lineup. Its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 also makes the Ghibli much sportier than the Quattroporte, with the most powerful “S” model able to produce 410 hp from the engine. When power meets the wheels by way of the eight-speed automatic transmission, 106 www.duPontREGISTRY.com/TampaBay
the Ghibli S is able to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 5 seconds, topping out at 176 mph. Maserati also offers the Ghibli with a turbo-diesel V6, making it the first Maserati to feature a diesel engine. The “S” model is only offered with an all-wheel drive configuration, while the base and diesel versions are capable of either a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive setup. Aesthetically, the Ghibli offers a more sporty and youthful character without compromising Maserati’s heritage. The exterior lines from the grille to the rear create a coupe-like appearance, even with four doors. Inside those doors, the cabin is sporty, yet as spacious and elegant as you would expect from Maserati.

vibrant colors inspire modern-day monet

Stephen Hand is a master at using both his right brain and left brain. He’s both a successful financial planner and a skilled and passionate artist in the style of Impressionist masters. Monet’s beautiful “Water Lilies” is Hand’s muse for his own work that captures vivid reds, oranges, yellows, purples and blues— colors that are powerful, alive and inspirational. “To me color is a feeling,” says Hand. “Color can bring forth feelings of happiness and bliss.” Hand also enjoys helping children, teens and adults find their own creativity. At his new studio in downtown Tarpon Springs, an historic building with 20-foot ceilings and lots of natural light, he offers classes, including the “Art Escape,” a one-day experience where small groups can create and paint with a professional artist guiding them. “Come to the studio for a nice little getaway and lose yourself in art for a couple of hours,” says Hand. “Enjoy lunch, use topquality supplies and go home with a beautiful painting that you’ve created yourself.”
