Slyde Stainless Steel

Slyde Black Titanium

Slyde represents the next generation of fine watchmaking. Audacious technology allows the wearer an infinite universe of components, functions and complications right at the fingertips within the case of a fine watch. Bridging the gap between today, tomorrow and yesterday, the main function is to tell time―though its owner can customize it to perform a variety of functions and even add complications. In a 47.71 x 57.84 x 17.53 mm stainless steel case, the Slyde is about to revolutionize our time ($6,350).

Operated in a user-friendly manner with a touch screen, the Slyde nonetheless differs from other tactile-operated machinery in that this fine timepiece is protected by a sapphire crystal like a other luxury watch. However, its innovatively curved sapphire crystal is highly sensitive to the touch and therefore able to “slide” the watch’s various functions. Naturally, all other case components also derive from the world of high watchmaking too. In a black PVD-coated titanium case, this version costs $7,050.

Slyde Full Black and Red Gold

Slyde Red Gold

In addition to its sober aesthetics, this next-generation luxury timepiece is highly functional in that it can also store pictures and other information. Furthermore, the owner is able to download modules from the brand’s Internet site, allowing him or her to customize how the time is displayed among other elements. This black stainless steel timepiece with 18-karat red gold elements is water-resistant to 30 meters and comes on an alligator skin strap for $10,200.

The status of the high-tech lithium polymer battery is shown via power reserve lighting on the side of the 18-karat rose gold case at approximately 2 o’clock. The case back of the Slyde boasts a USB socket for connecting the timepiece to a PC, Mac or wall socket for charging or for downloading and communication with the website. All the technology contained in the Slyde, including its electronic movement, is internationally patented—and unique ($75,400).

Royal Oak Offshore Diver

Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph

This new automatic diver’s watch comes in a 42 mm allceramic case that is fully compliant with the ISO6425 norm, which makes its performance perfect for aqueous surroundings. Ceramic is seven times harder than steel, so accidental shocks won’t harm it much―or the rotating dive-time device located inside the case set using an extra crown at 10 o’clock. The luminescent orange color of the hands and diving scale on the bezel make them eminently visible even in murky conditions ($21,800).

The all-ceramic case of this sporty 44 mm Offshore chronograph makes it particularly tough and contemporarily attractive all at the same time. Continuing the modern feel is the black Mega Tapisserie dial that is typical of this line, while the red chronograph hands make them superbly easy to identify as such. The automatic movement’s visuals match the outside, particularly the 22-karat gold rotor, which has been galvanically coated to make it an anthracite-grey color as seen through the sapphire crystal case back ($40,000).

Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Perpetual Calendar

Royal Oak Offshore Grande Complication

This particularly complicated, yet incredibly sporty, Offshore model comes in three case metals: in addition to the rose gold model shown with a black dial and strap for $91,900, it also comes in titanium or platinum. All three are highly limited editions: 35 pieces in titanium ($67,200), 25 in rose gold and 10 in platinum (with beautiful blue accents, $128,500), due in great part to the difficulty of manufacturing a normally delicate complication like this for such a robust sports watch.

This 44 mm oeuvre needing more than 820 total hours of painstaking craftsmanship is equipped with a minute repeater chiming the hours, quarter hours and minutes, a perpetual calendar (that will never need correcting as long as it stays wound until 2100), and a split-second chronograph. Its automatic movement comprising 648 components is a concentrated blend of amazing mechanical developments, while its titanium case with black ceramic bezel, crown and pushers is decidedly modern ($710,700). Strictly limited to three pieces.

Manero PowerReserve

Patravi TravelTec Four-X

This brand’s in-house automatic movement with its peripheral rotor has up to now generally only powered the Patravi EvoTec range. However, this Manero model benefits from Caliber CFBA1011’s efficient winding and ability to display power reserve, large date, and the weekday in addition to the time on the dial. Housed in a classic stainless steel 42.5 mm case it comes on a brown Louisiana alligator-skin strap and retails for $11,000. It is also available on a stainless steel bracelet.

This ambitious watch created especially with travelers in mind displays three time zones, two of which are located on rotating rings encircling the dial. The main hour hand can be set forward and backward in increments of exactly one hour. When the time is set backward, the date is automatically adjusted in the same direction. This big, bold 46.5 mm automatic chronograph in rose gold, titanium, ceramic and rubber with a decided instrument look retails for $52,900.

Manero Tourbillon

Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve

Celebrating Carl F. Bucherer’s 125th anniversary, the brand introduces its first tourbillon in the Manero range. Powered by manually wound Caliber CFB T1001, the watch—which also features a power reserve display, 24-hour indication, and the date on a silver dial—is housed in a 41.8 mm 18-karat rose gold case. Elegance is clearly the order of the day here: optimal dial clarity and a generous cutaway showcasing the tourbillon characterize the timepiece limited to 188 pieces retailing for $98,800.

The Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve’s stainless steel 43.75 x 44.5 mm case boasts a powerful double-digit date. Stylish strap lugs and crown protection enhance the look while an elegant anthracitegrey and black dial entertains distinctive skeletonized, luminous hands counting the passing hours and minutes. A crescent-shaped scale on the right alerts the wearer as to when a fresh dose of kinetic energy needs to be added to the automatic manufacture movement. On a stainless steel bracelet it retails for $12,100.

Challenge Jetliner GT Daedalus Edition

Challenge Jetliner SL

This model’s superbly attractive dial was inspired by a myth involving Daedalus, a genius sculptor and architect of Greek mythology who created a golden jewel whose structure resembled a beehive. The Jetliner GT Daedalus’ dial, though, was contemporarily manufactured by laser cutting a titanium sheet only two-tenths of a millimeter high. It is framed by a 59 x 45 mm titanium case, whose time and date are powered by an automatic movement decorated and skeletonized for lightness and contemporary visuals ($11,700).

On an obsessive quest for lightness, Cvstos explores skeletonization as a means of further reducing a watch’s weight. The result: the brand’s automatic Caliber CVS 350 has been fully reengineered, redesigned and, of course, skeletonized—all without compromising any functional capability. Naturally, the 53.7 x 41 mm titanium, steel or rose gold case, nitrile rubber strap and matching metal clasp have undergone the same treatment. Water-resistant to 100 meters, the Jetliner SL is the perfect companion for sporty activities ($9,900).

Challenge Dani Pedrosa Limited Edition

Challenge SeaLiner

World Moto GP vice-champion Dani Pedrosa has provided input so that head watch designer Antonio Terranova was able to create a great automatic chronograph for the fast-paced world of motor racing, including dynamic design elements such as Pedrosa’s lucky number 26, which is found on the side of the 53.7 x 41 mm titanium and aluminum case. On a rubber strap, it is available for $22,000 in a 26-piece edition in titanium or a 26-piece edition featuring orange aluminum accents.

The SeaLiner’s sporty-chic nautical styling reminiscent of dazzling jet-set ports such as Porto Cervo, Monaco, St. Tropez and Cannes is only matched by the mechanics of the unusual visuals: four porthole-style apertures on the 53.7 x 41 mm stainless steel, blue steel with rose gold (shown, $20,000) or rose gold case sides invite the observer to gaze into the heart of the automatic movement, Caliber CVS 350, which has been redesigned in line with the theme of skeletonized lightness that Cvstos engenders.

Big Time WORLD 42 mm

Big Time WORLD 50 mm

Born from a fascination with wristwatches that began as a boy, Curtis always knew that one day he would create his own signature brand of timepieces. This 42 mm stainless steel watch is powered by Swiss quartz movements displaying the time in three different time zones and the date. Big Time WORLD comes on a stainless steel bracelet and is delivered with an interchangeable silicone strap to match the watch dial color ($1,790).

Curtis & Co. has achieved a signature look that makes its watches recognizable at any distance—particularly true of the WORLD models, which boast several time zones. Swiss quartz movements are housed within a 50 mm polished circle of stainless steel to provide the hours and minutes in three time zones. This watch comes on a stainless steel bracelet and is delivered with an interchangeable silicone strap to match the watch dial color ($1,980).

Big Time WORLD 57 mm

Big Time LOVE

CURTIS & Co.’s large case sizes have helped make them recognizable and large sizes such as this 57 mm model have established the brand. Eye-catchers on any wrist due to the unusually grand scale, the 57 mm size is also perfect for housing four time zones powered by Swiss quartz movements as this model dutifully exemplifies. In stainless steel with a selection of color dials and on a stainless steel bracelet also delivered with an interchangeable silicone strap to match the watch dial color. ($2,230).

A new take on the word “love” is how Curtis describes this watch. The triple time zone timepiece is a great example of the result: powered by three Swiss made quartz movements showing three separate time zones and the date, it is housed in a 50 mm polished stainless steel case that comes on an interchangeable silicone strap to match the watch dial color ($1,580). Additional interchangeable leather straps in a variety of colors are also available.

De Bethune

Pagani Huayra

DB28 Skybridge

DB16 Tourbillon Regulator

De Bethune’s Skybridge hides its technical prowess with a dreamlike dial in an intense celestial blue: this particular shade is a house specialty, crafted in mirror-polished titanium that has been heattempered to the perfect hue after which it is encrusted with white gold and diamond “stars.” The 43 mm titanium case is particularly comfortable as it is outfitted with the brand’s own “floating” (movable) lugs. Turn it over to reveal a highly technical hand-wound movement through the sapphire crystal case back ($106,000).

This is a classic manually wound beauty in a 43 mm rose gold case, whose hidden 30-second tourbillon has been paradoxically crafted in silicon and titanium. One of the fastest and lightest tourbillons in the industry, its 57 individual components (of 499 total) weigh a mere 0.18 grams. This builds a stark contrast to the jumping seconds, whose vintage effect including classic temperedblue steel hands and guilloché dial is offset by a retrograde 3D moon and a very clean perpetual calendar ($388,000).

DB28 Black Matte

DB27 Titan Hawk

This hand-wound De Bethune specialty boasts a particularly distinctive 42.6 mm case as it is crafted in sandblasted, anthracite-colored zirconium as are its floating lugs made of the same material that can be ordered short or long. The eye-catcher, though, is the dial with black mirror-polished elements and a spherical moon phase display in palladium and polished anthracitecolored zirconium just below the visible escapement. The DB28 also displays the power reserve (on the back) and a “performance indication” (near 2 o’clock) for $91,800.

De Bethune’s Titan Hawk received its nickname from its unusual dial, which includes a very prominent date hand that could resemble the beak of the predatory bird with a little imagination. Housed in a 43 mm mirrorpolished titanium case outfitted with the ergonomic floating lugs, it conveniently runs on a highly technical automatic movement boasting several patented inventions engineered to add to the watch’s accuracy. On an extrasupple alligator-skin strap, it retails for $39,900.

GPG Conquistador

GPG Conquistador Cortez

This collection is inspired by speed, and in particular the Formula 1 Grand Prix race held in Singapore during the 2009 season. It was an instant hit among racing enthusiasts and purveyors of good, sporty design. Obviously ahead of its time with its black and red styling (a current megatrend in high-end watchmaking), this automatic chronograph is housed in a lightweight blackened titanium 48 x 62.7 mm case with red anodized Ergal elements. On a sporty rubber strap, it retails for $23,100.

Adding to the Grand Prixinspired collection begun with the tonneau-shaped GPG Conquistador model, Franck Muller introduces a Cortez model in that line’s typical 45 x 45 square case. As speed and lightness remain big topics for the GPG model family, the case is naturally crafted in titanium and outfitted with an automatic movement. Very noteworthy is the attractive tone-in-tone dial stamped with a “flame guilloché” pattern, varnished with cellulose and embellished with red elements. On a rubber strap it retails for $12,600.

Giga Tourbillon

7-Days Power Reserve

Franck Muller’s Giga Tourbillon has the distinction of including the largest tourbillon escapement in the world. Measuring an absolutely vast 20 mm in diameter, the tourbillon cage literally takes up half the space of the manually wound 40.5 mm caliber. The other half is largely dominated by four serially operating spring barrels. This is only visible on the front due to the position of the movement having been reversed inside the 43.7 x 59.2 mm stainless steel case ($242,200).

Classic watchmaking Franck Muller style looks like this. Housed in the brand’s typical 18-karat gold 39.6 x 55.4 mm Cintrée Curvex case, its enamel-style dial boasts the art deco numerals characteristic of the line, but outlined in a gold color as are the subdial for seconds and the unusual window indicating the remaining power reserve in days. In fact, this window’s presence reveals that this manually wound movement is an in-house specialty boasting seven days of power reserve ($23,100).

Quantum I

Quantum I “After many years, Ritmo Mundo takes a new direction with the launch of Quantum,” said Ali Soltani, founder and president of Ritmo Time Group, earlier this year. The Quantum I, one of the three new lines, is outfitted with a precise Swiss quartz chronograph movement and is available in a variety of colored aluminum accents complementing the 50 mm stainless steel case. Its silicone strap is integrated into the case for a seamless look ($1,195).

This 50 mm Quantum model is outfitted with a carbon fiber dial, date window at 3 o’clock and luminous red hands. The red aluminum accents on the case and chronograph pushers add a splash of trendy color to the entire look. The aluminum case back keeps the very masculine-sized model’s weight to a minimum so it looks muscular without feeling beefy and also helps ensure the entire collection is water-resistant to 10 atmospheres ($1,195).

Quantum II

Quantum III

“The three Quantum collections feature a new variety of mixed metal combinations, and represent a new direction in Italian style,” Soltani describes his new model family. The Quantum II, available in 50 ($995) and 43 mm sizes (shown is the 43 mm case, $895) is also powered by a Swiss quartz precision movement and features luminous hands and an additional tachymeter scale for logarithmically measuring speed or distance by mathematically converting elapsed time in seconds to a particular unit.

This 50 mm Quantum III model differs greatly from the other Quantum lines with its interesting mix of aluminum, carbon fiber and colorful accents—here in a green and black configuration for $895. The dial—half matte black and half carbon fiber—also displays a double-digit large date in addition to chronograph times. Water-resistant to 10 atmospheres like the rest of the line, it comes on a black silicone strap.

Housed inside the 50 x 44.5 x 18.5 mm black PVD-coated titanium case is an innovative automatic movement boasting a linear, retrograde jumping hour—meaning it jumps back to the beginning of the display at 1:00 upon completion of the red-lacquered cursor’s trek across half the day, providing a lateral reading of time. Minutes are shown on a disc in the “roof.” Only available in a limited edition of 99 pieces, it retails for $24,900.

The iconic automobile from the 1980s who played a starring role in the Back to the Future trilogy is at the base of this timepiece limited to 81 pieces (1981 was the year it came out). Its 46 mm brushed stainless steel case contains elements from the original bodywork of a DeLorean sports car. An automatic movement powers the time and chronograph displays, which include a small seconds subdial recalling the car’s taillights and chronograph totalizers reminiscent of wheel rims ($17,200).

Steampunk Metal Chrono

Moon Invader Speed Metal Chrono

The rusted steel bezel of this automatic 2012-piece limited edition is a reflection of the extraordinary fusion of various materials from the actual Titanic with steel provided by the Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast where the Titanic was built a century ago. Held in place by four polished steel claws on the large 50 mm steel case featuring steampunk-style details, it is devoid of any dial. The mobile “propeller” at 6 o’clock is driven by the movement’s rotor ($18,000).

This automatic chronograph paying tribute to space exploration—and therefore limited to the symbolic number of 1969 pieces—is housed in a technically complex 46 mm black PVDcoated case crafted in steel fused with parts from the actual Apollo 11 spaceship. Its rubber strap is secured by sophisticated components mounted on axles anchored in the case, increasing comfort and evoking Lunar Excursion Module design codes. The steel mesh, multilayered dial was inspired by the woven metal strands of lunar vehicles ($14,900).

Scheyden

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4

True Aviator Steam Gauge Scheyden was founded and continues to be run by Jeff Herold, also founder and president of parent company Club Glove, a maker of golf accessories, who expanded into luggage. Interested in all kinds of sporting and travel equipment, expanding into watches was a natural step. Designed for pilots and containing three instruments (timepiece, compass, stopwatch), this “stealth” 47 mm blackened stainless steel model is powered by a Swiss precision quartz movement and features a memory-aiding bidirectionally rotating bezel ($2,992).

True Aviator Steam Gauge The wing root is the part of the wing that is closest to the aircraft’s main body. The stainless steel bracelet’s design emulates this aviation detail and even comes with two band links to replace one or both of the removable digital stopwatch and liquidfilled magnetic compass instruments when not in use. The dial also includes a digital display of day, date and second time zone encircled by a ring that indicates global airport identifier abbreviations and time zones for world time ($2,992).

True Aviator Steam Gauge Jeff Herold founded Scheyden in 2000 after training to get his pilot’s license. “I was not happy with the quality of sunglasses available,” he remembers. Feeling he could do a better job of manufacturing sunglasses, Scheyden came into being. Now Scheyden introduces a first line of watches: this goldplated version waterresistant to 10 atmospheres features quality elements such as sapphire crystals and Super-LumiNova paint on the markers, numerals and hands for easy night reading ($2,992).

Panorama & Mustang Precision Eyewear The Mustang (bottom, $309 non-polarized/$349 polarized) navigatorstyle precision eyewear is hand-crafted using fine materials including handground mineral glass lenses, ultra-light titanium frames and silicone nose pieces. The popular sporty look reminiscent of airplane aces is designed to fit a range of face shapes. The Panorama (top) represents Scheyden’s largest eyewear style and wraps around the face. Cedar-rolled composite material frames encircle lenses that are 100 percent UV-protected and remain crystal clear thanks to an anti-reflective coating ($259 non-polarized/$309 polarized).

Patria Dual Time

Grand Flieger Automatic

Following the celebratory Hommage Minute Repeater model that marked Tutima’s triumphant return to its birthplace Glashütte, Germany, in 2011, the Patria line continues the tradition with an extremely fine, in-house, manually wound caliber boasting 65 hours power reserve and characteristic horological traits of the tradition-rich region. Debuting in a 43 mm 18-karat rose gold case, the time-only model ($18,900) and dual time zone model (shown, $19,900) elegantly display the time on a silvercolored dial with new gold hands.

Tutima’s Grand Flieger model captures the aviation spirit of this brand’s grand past with its pilot-style black dial and nostalgically aesthetic fluted bezel boasting a typical red reference marker. However, it remains exceedingly contemporary with a modern 43 mm stainless steel case that is water-resistant to a full 200 meters despite its sapphire crystal case back, which allows the observer to peer deep into the depths of the automatic movement. Displaying the time, day, and date, it retails as shown for $2,650.

Saxon One Automatic

Saxon One Chronograph

The new Saxon One line spectacularly complements Tutima Glashütte’s sporty offerings with a never-seen stainless steel case design that defies traditional categorization. A full 42 mm in size, its innovative automatic movement boasting 40 hours of power reserve has plenty of room to display the time, day and date. Shown here with an anthracite-colored dial on a stainless steel bracelet comprising polished and matte elements just like the case ($4,400), it is also available with an opalescent white dial.

Tutima’s automatic Caliber 521 differs from most in that it possesses a sweep minute totalizer, which means that not only the counted seconds, but also the minutes, can be clearly read off the minute scale encircling the opalescent white dial (also available in anthracite-grey). This leaves room for a 24-hour display (can also be used as an am/pm or military time indicator) as well as the date. It is housed in the new 43 mm stainless steel Saxon One case ($7,990).

Elementium

Unicum The idea of individuality is important to Italo Fontana, the founder of U-Boat. His latest creation, Unicum (Latin for “unique”), is a good example. Each Unicum is a unique piece, finished in such a way to make it the only one in existence. Taking a retrostyled, automatic U-42 B&B model as the base, the double dial (one bronze-colored brass and one black), 53 mm case, titanium bezel and calfskin strap are treated with acids to create a one-of-a-kind vintage look ($11,850).

Juxtaposing a number of seemingly contradicting elements, Italo Fontana has created a highly unusual timepiece: an automatic chronograph movement, a very large 50 mm uncoated Sterling silver pilot’s watch case with 204 brown and black diamonds filling its “fissures,” Sterling silver crown and chronograph pushers (with a protective device locking the reset button and a black diamond cabochon on the start/stop button), a carbon fiber dial, and a hand-finished calfskin strap with silver and diamonds on the buckle and strap itself ($23,300).

Chimera U-51 Bronze

Chimera 43

Italo Fontana’s passion for vintage culture inspired him to found U-Boat in 2000 based on the idea of rejuvenating his grandfather’s project from 1942. This automatic 46 mm bronze timepiece with a distinctive retro styling has been created with “change” in mind: untreated bronze gets a certain patina over time, receives a warm, used look that is masculine and unique according to the wearer’s own body chemistry. On a distressed leather strap and limited to 300 pieces the Chimera U-51 Bronze retails for $9,900.

A smaller sized Chimera range is now available in a variety of executions such as this automatic model housed in a 43 mm Sterling silver case embellished with rubies. The patented oversized crown on the left side of the case—fully characteristic of the brand’s entire range—is protected from undesired shock by a locking catch that turns out to be an actual crown cover. The inner crown is pushed once to allow time-setting and twice for the date (from $7,600).

Marine Diver Chronograph

Black Toro

Pairing sport and style, this rich black monochromatic wristwatch embellished with blue and red accents in addition to gold hands and markers is housed in a 45.8 mm case able to dive to a 200meter depth. Crafted in stainless steel, it is coated with rubber—even the screw-in crown—and secured by a contemporary black rubber strap. Powered by a particularly accurate, certified automatic movement, its functions include a chronograph, the date, and a subsidiary seconds hand ($22,000).

Spanish for “bull,” Black Toro’s deliciously complicated dial features the outline of a bull’s horns hosting the timepiece’s automatic perpetual calendar functions (meaning that as long as the automatic watch stays wound, the wearer will not have to adjust any of the displays until 2100): large date, weekday, month, (leap) year, and 24-hour second time zone indication—uniquely adjustable via crown both forward and backward. El Toro comes in a 43 mm 18-karat rose gold case ($55,500) with a ceramic bezel.

Stranger

Marine Diver

One of the most unique watches of 2013, this literal music box on the wrist plays the first 16 seconds of Strangers in the Night, made famous by Frank Sinatra. Sounds impossible, but the eminently wearable, automatic, 45 mm, 18-karat rose gold timepiece limited to just 99 pieces also displays the time and music box function (on/off) as well as the crown function (time/date/winding) in addition to boasting ten blades of the music box mechanism on the dial ($112,000).

The latest iteration of the sporty Marine Diver boasts a new dial design that continues the line’s characteristic elements including large diving scale elements in gold on the bezel and a wave-patterned black dial with contrasting luminous markers and power reserve indication. Its 42.7 mm case of 18-karat rose gold—waterresistant to 200 meters—houses an automatic movement. Its new 18-karat rose gold bracelet incorporates black ceramic elements, perfectly matching the dial and the case ($47,200).

Christophe Claret

Aston Martin One-77

Kantharos

Kantharos

This chronograph, whose name is derived from a famous racehorse, comprises more than 550 components. It asserts a distinct identity by practically redesigning the way that stopwatch times are displayed on its architecturally layered dial, which reveals a constant force escapement (6 o’clock) and its repeater’s hammer (10 o’clock). Its 45 mm red gold and anthracite-gray PVDcoated titanium case is complemented by black ceramic, anthracite-gray hands against a rose gold dial. On a black alligator skin strap, it retails from $125,000.

The Kantharos is powered by a highly complicated automatic movement that includes a constant force escapement (for more accurate timing over the course of the winding period) and a cunning cathedral chime that sounds when the chronograph button is activated. This version is housed in a black PVD-coated titanium case embellished by blue spinel and black PVD hands against an anthracite-colored, rhodium-plated dial ($116,750 on a black alligator-skin strap with blue stitching). All Kantharos models are numbered.

Soprano

X-TREM-1

Christophe Claret’s specialty complication is actually audible, and the Soprano is a classic example with its fournote minute repeater striking Westminster chimes on patented cathedral gongs. Its 45 mm white gold and anthracite-colored PVD-coated titanium case also houses a 60second flying tourbillon and a transparent spring barrel, which also acts as a power reserve indicator—all of which is visible through the magnificent, skeletonized, manually wound movement with 72 hours of power reserve. Limited to 8 pieces, it sells from $505,000.

This timepiece is like nothing you’ve ever seen: its curved titanium base plate contains a flying tourbillon inclined at 30° and a retrograde hour and minute display system that is radically different from existing conventions. Two tiny, hollow steel spheres isolated within sapphire crystal tubes to the left and right magically move with no discernable mechanical connection (spoiler: it uses magnetic fields). Housed in a 40.8 x 56.8 x 15 mm rose gold and anthracitecolored PVD-coated case, this version costs $289,500.
