What ifâ&#x20AC;Ś DDW celebrates the power of imagination with the question that moves every designer and sparks all innovation. The question for everyone who believes everything can be done better, more beautifully and more efficiently, and who sees a challenge in every problem. For 9 whole days, DDW boasts 99 locations, presenting the processes, experiments and ideas, answers and solutions thought up by 2500 designers. Come and be amazed, surprised or astonished. Ask yourself new questions, draw inspiration for your own answers and allow the power of design to convince you.

General Information All the short DDW activities have been bundled, per day, in this booklet. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a handy summary of all the workshops, lectures, seminars, parties and music performances. Some activities require you to register in advance and you might need to pay for admission to others. You can find this and other detailed inÂformation for each activity on our website: ddw.nl Want to visit the DDW exhibitions? See the DDW map or the website for the complete run-down of all the exhibitions. At the front of the book you will find general information useful when visiting DDW. And in the back all you need to know about the modes of transport that can ferry you to all the DDW venues. Art directors Studio Maarten Kolk & Guus Kusters are the curators for the Klokgebouw this year. With a themed approach, the main venue shows how designers contribute to a smarter, cleaner or more beautiful world.

Explore the programme, find your way, save your favourites, create and share your own ‘What if…’. The Dutch Design Week cam paign concept and design was developed by Fabrique. The website by Freshheads and the app came about in cooperation with Eindhoven365 and Proxible.

Info Points Questions are answered and visitor directions are given at three official info points: at Central Station exit, De Witte Dame (42) and in the Klokgebouw (16).

Tickets A DDW ticket grants you 9 days of unlimited access to: the Klokgebouw (16), Veemgebouw (11), Design Academy Eindhoven (Graduation Show 2015) (42), Van Abbemuseum (Thing Nothing) (67), TAC (34) and the Paterskerk (76). Most other locations are free, unless stated otherwise in the programme on the website. Your DDW ticket entitles you to a 50% discount on admission to Philips museum (40) and a €1,- discount on admission to the Modebelofte (32, closed 17 Oct.). Check ddw.nl/tickets for more information. DDW Talks DDW introduces you to the greatest designers and most exciting design processes through two daily talks: My First DDW and It’s Your World. In the morning, before the DDW locations open their doors, meet the famous designers and during your lunch break the most cutting-edge designers. Curious about the speakers? Start your DDW day with an anthology by the big names from the design world and their young heroes. Come and soak up the inspiration in these free talks by Thomas Widdershoven – director of the Design Academy, Jeroen van Erp – designer of the DDW campaign and Wendy Plomp – the young designer and curator who has given design collectives a new twist with Dutch Invertuals.

Curious about what design has to offer the world? The It’s Your World lecture programme is packed with designers who look far beyond the Netherlands and tackle global problems like water shortages and refuse.

It’s Your World mini-exhibition Location: Klokgebouw Our daily waste, the manufacture of mobile telephones, the bacteria on our skin or asylum seekers who have been denied residency. These are not topics we immediately associate with design. But these are in fact the areas where smart design or the power of imagination in design can make a difference. It’s Your World presents four miniexhibitions in which designers show how they see our world. How, for example, we can make valuable products from our rubbish, or what the fashion industry of tomorrow will look like. But also how design can help prisoners rebuild their lives after release. It’s Your World is not just a slogan from the United Nations, it is the name of the programme with which Dutch Design Week and Stichting DOEN present solutions by creative adventurous thinkers that provide a glimpse into our own tomorrow, but also help shape the future of our world.

Sculpture for a Modern World 28.11.2015 — 17.04.2016

Barbara Hepworth Het Kröller-Müller Museum eert Barbara Hepworth (Wakefield 1903-St Ives 1975) met een groot overzicht, vijftig jaar na haar laatste grote tentoonstelling in 1965. Barbara Hepworth is een van de meest succesvolle beeldhouwers van de twintigste eeuw. Haar beelden maken deel uit van de grote sculptuurcollecties in de wereld. Barbara Hepworth: Sculpture for a Modern World volgt Hepworth’s loopbaan van de stenen sculpturen uit haar jonge jaren tot haar latere, beroemde bronzen beelden. De tentoonstelling omvat ruim honderd werken, waarvan zo’n zeventig van Hepworth en de rest van andere kunstenaars, zoals Jacob Epstein, Henry Moore en Ben Nicholson. De bijzondere en lange relatie van het Kröller-Müller Museum met Barbara Hepworth is tot op de dag van vandaag te zien in het Rietveldpaviljoen in de beeldentuin. Hepworth koos acht van haar beelden speciaal uit voor dit befaamde paviljoen van architect Gerrit Rietveld. Het paviljoen is als ‘buitenzaal’ onderdeel van de tentoonstelling. www.krollermuller.nl
