The day I’ve been waiting for is finally here! The release of the Premiere issue of Carolinas Today. Dave Fowler knew from a very young age that he wanted to be a bassist. Playing with musicians like Warren Haynes in Western North Carolina as a teenager helped Dave understand the importance of being a bass player and the role a bassist must play to be in successful bands. Dave attributes much of his “seat of the pants” education by playing with older more experienced players. Dave has been able to work with artists such as Dolly Parton, Cinderella, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tracy Lawrence, Lorrie Morgan, Dottie West, Edwin McCain, Collin Raye, Chely Wright, Jamie O’Neal And legendary engineer, producer Bill Szymczyk (The Eagles) just to name a few. Michael Letts, founder of In-Vest USA, found out that officers were not provided vests and was shocked that they were not provided. He immediately stated, "I will raise the money to insure officers can have vests". After making that statement, there was no backing up. Further research brought a horrible fact to light. Michael found out that around 400,000 active officers do not have protective vests making the need greater the he had imagined. Being a Chaplain for the Columbia, SC police department, he is closer to this cause than you may think. In-Vest USA then began in 1993. Outraged and resolved to correct this situation, Letts formed In-Vest USA, a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to help officers in South Carolina. Nineteen years later, In-Vest USA went national with the support of an extensive network of grassroots volunteers as well as corporate sponsors. In-Vest USA now helps raise awareness of the issue and raise funds to distribute free vests and equipment to first responders in communities across America. In 2003 In-Vest USA went national, and in 2004 the organization was named one of the Top 10 Angel Charities in South Carolina by the Secretary of State. “We will not stop until every law enforcement officer in America is provided a free personal body armor vest.” According to the financial information filed with the SC Dept. of Revenue office, In-Vest USA devoted 98.6% of its total expenses to program services during the fiscal year ending June 2011. Facts according to FBI statistics: · An officer not wearing a body armor vest is 14 times more likely to be killed by a firearm than an officer wearing a vest. · 40% of officers (almost 400,000) do not have a protective vest. · Of those who do have a protective vest to wear on duty, nearly 20% of those vests do not fit properly. A properly fitting vest can mean the difference between life and death.

· Body armor vests must be replaced every 5 years and cost around $700 each, which is a small price to pay for the lives of our law enforcement officers.

In-Vest USA has received national publicity for its effort, including a feature story in the New York Times and several appearances on national TV and radio shows. The list of business partners include NFL, Carrabba’s, BellSouth, DuPont, SCANA, South Carolina Bank and Trust, CiCi’s Pizza, Wells Fargo Bank, TD Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and AT&T. Smith & Wesson M&P 22 The M&P22 is sure to be a popular addition to the M&P line of semi-auto pistols. After wearing and forgetting about the Inside the Waistband holster, I would definitely recommend anyone purchasing one of these holsters to get the “Appendix Carry” option. While going about my daily activities, I really did forget about it. The only time I noticed the holster was during the time period after putting it on and going over to get my M&P. The Kydex was somewhat over-bearing without the pistol in it. As soon as the pistol was inserted into the holster, it felt as if it melted away. The “Appendix Carry” option removes some of the Kydex from the upper part of the holster, which I feel would make it go from just Comfortable to Really Comfortable. The Outside the Waistband holster is also very comfortable but is less concealable, as it is not retained by your clothing. The Single Mag Carrier is setup for IWB carry and works well but I did prefer the Dual Mag Carrier which is an OWB carry. It was Very Comfortable and used in conjunction with the IWB Holster and a slightly baggy shirt, you can carry concealed in complete comfort all day.

Concealed carry in the United States
ome states require concealed carry applicants to certify their proficiency with a firearm through some type of training or instruction. Certain training courses developed by the National Rifle Association that combine classroom and live-fire instruction typically meet most state training requirements. Some states recognize prior military or police service as meeting training requirements.
Classroom instruction would typically include firearm mechanics and terminology, cleaning and
maintenance of a firearm, concealed carry legislation and limitations, liability issues, carry methods and safety, home defense, methods for managing and defusing confrontational situations, and practice of gun handling techniques without firing the weapon. Most required CCW training courses devote a considerable amount of time to liability issues.

Depending on the state, a practical component during which the attendee shoots the weapon for the purpose of demonstrating safety and proficiency, may be required. During range instruction, applicants would typically learn and demonstrate safe handling and operation of a firearm and accurate shooting from common self-defense distances. Some states require a certain proficiency to receive a passing grade, whereas other states (e.g., Florida) technically require only a single-shot be fired to demonstrate handgun handling proficiency.

The N.E.F. .243 Youth model is a single shot rifle chambered in .243 Winchester. My wife and I purchased this 10-15 years ago. If it could talk it would tell you how many deer it has brought down, how many times it has shot a bullseye and how it was tossed in the back of several trucks between hunting seasons just waiting to get out and do its job, to take it down in one shot. This rifle has stayed setup this way since the day it was purchased. We had a Bushnell Banner scope mated to it, the specs on the scope allude me, but it remains clear and is fog free. At the range we ran Hornady American Whitetail 100 gr InterLock ammo. Muzzle velocity is advertised at 2960 fps. Very good ammo. It was 150 yards to reach some steel, once I found it. The video below shows me hitting it once, it was the only target I was able to get footage of. Mastering the art of one deadly accurate shot. If meat on the table were the sole object of the hunt, then a trip to the supermarket would suffice. The hunt has always been the acid test of the hunter’s skills. For generations, the single shot rifle has been the choice of the accomplished and self-assured hunter that takes pride in his or her marksmanship.
