Homo polled, solid black coming 2 year old bull. In 2012 Escalade smashed the Iowa Beef Expo records and his sons continue to sort themselves to the top. Consistent calving ease, outstanding growth, maternal, and carcass values; combined with that extra special “something” that sets them apart from the other sire groups. Well, Regal fits that description to the letter. Out of one of our very best Boxcar daughters that keeps bringing in the good ones, he hit the ground with an actual BW of just 82, and weaned at 861, and posted a yearling of 1448. He combines all of this in a calm, cool package that catches your eye and demands attention. Regal represents our golden blend of Escalade, Boxcar, and the Gambler. If you are looking for a bull with a proven can’t miss pedigree Regal is the one for you.

11/13/21 • PB Simmental • #4134815
- Polled - Bull - BW 90 - WW 976 - YW 1470
This deep sided, smooth shouldered, black brockel faced Cowboy Logic son has been something special from day one. Out of a black baldy Starwest POL Blueprint first calf heifer, he is the result of our desire to once again, add more Fleckvieh genetics back into our black purebreds. Kilkenny is exactly what we were hoping for with this genetic infusion. Born at 86, weaned off at 976, and posted an impressive 1470 at a year. With his moderate birth weight, his excellent structure, accelerated growth, and milk EPD of 26. Kilkenny is the easy keeping heifer maker or the sire of efficient gaining feeder cattle you have been searching for. You’re gonna want to check this fella out.

This deep sided, smooth shouldered solid black and homo polled son of Cowboy Logic has been a standout from the day he was born. Out of a Lock Down daughter of our Mystieq donor, he was born at just 84, and yet weaned of at 827, then posted a yearling of 1322. With his low birth weight, his excellent structure, and a milk EPD of 25, Conagher is the heifer maker you have been searching for. Tremendous internal dimension and moves out like a cat. You’re gonna want to check this fella out.

We really like these Gentleman’s Jack cattle for their fault free structure and fluid motion as they move around the lot. This one was raised by one of our very best baldy Escalade daughters to give him that extra maternal power to sire top notch replacements or your top yielding feeder calves.

This is a stout and rugged stud here. This Relentless son is a great combination of length and power. He is a maternal brother to a $10,000 heifer that we sold right through this sale two years ago. With bloodlines like this, the predictability is built in. He will keep easy and raise heavy and stout calves. Trust the pedigree, it works!

Yearling Simmental Bulls
This bull is one of Clay’s. He’s the first calf out of his 2021 Southwest Shootout contender we purchased from Owen’s Bros and RJ. She is a flushmate to Owen’s and XTBs Goose bull they campaigned hard for 2021-22 Show Bull of the Year. It hasn’t taken me long to see that as she develops she needs to be flushed this spring. Lot of good in this young calf.
This bull is an eye catcher with a pedigree to make females. His sire is the brother to Fort Knox that Reck’s bought that I would argue is proving to be the better breeding bull of the flush. His damn is a Milestone daughter that has been productive year after year. Pedigree and looks in a stout baldy package.

This one is incredibly special. This CCF 20-20 daughter really should not be leaving the farm. Sometimes you make those ones that you just don’t know can be replicated. You won’t find many like her. Especially one carrying a purebred Simmental calf! When we found this heifer’s mother with Kevin Bennett, there was little doubt we were going to own her. Absolutely special. This 12E donor is probably the deepest cow we had ever seen, with maybe the skinniest, longest neck we had ever seen in a Simmental cow. Just incredible. We have flushed her extensively. What we hoped would happen, if it all came together, is exactly what you see here in 114J. Elite front end, unbelievable balance, with that incredible look. You won’t miss her. Just get her bought and go make money!

Body, mass and power. This purebred CCF 20-20 daughter has all that and more. Her mother is maybe the boldest ribbed cow we ever owned. J2182 is homo polled, black blaze faced daughter of Buck Creek’s legendary FITZ Gideon bull and was my personal favorite of all our baldy open heifers. Besides stamping his daughters with extra power and style, Gideon’s daughters are earning their way as top end momma cows. Quick Guide to EPD Data
Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): The most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A & B have EPDs of +10 and -5, a 15 unit difference would be expected in their progeny. Key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example if the above case referred to weaning weight, A would be expected to sire 15 pounds more at weaning than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15 percent more unassisted births in first calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed.
$ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry, and dairy genetics over the last several decades.
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade & yield.
Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Using API & TI: First determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described before, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all purpose type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring 100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a 50 API bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd x 4 yr. = $6,000).
A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For a percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.
Units of Expression of ASA EPDs (listed alphabetically): All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all purpose sire scenario.
Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat.
Birth Weight (BW): Pound of birth weight
Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight.
Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
Marbling (MB): Marbling score.
Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.
Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye.
Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age.
Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal sire scenario.
Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.
Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.
Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.
