E-BIKES RIDING TIPS, CARE, LEGAL By definition, an e-bike is an electric bicycle that supports the rider’s efforts up to a maximum of 25 km/h. E-bikes are also called pedelecs (Pedal Electric Cycle). With pedal assistance up to 25 km/h, pedelecs are considered bicycles and are not subject to registration. Faster e-bikes, referred to as S-pedelec or Speed Pedelec (see 'Fast e-bikes'), are classified as mopeds (small motorcycles / scooters). Although e-bikes are considered normal bicycles in road traffic, you should be aware of some differences in riding, maintenance and care. Please read the STEVENS operating manual thoroughly before your first ride. You should pay particular attention to the chapters "Before your first ride" and "Before each ride".

Always keep in mind that you start off faster on an e-bike and move at a higher speed. For test rides, it is best to start at the lowest support level. Note that others sharing the road with you will often underestimate your speed, and mistakenly perceive you as a slower cyclist. You should therefore ride very carefully and with even more foresight and awareness of your surroundings.
The manufacturer specifications on the range of pedelec batteries are average values. How many kilometers a battery can support depends on the terrain, wind conditions, outside temperature, stop/start frequency (such as at traffic lights), total towing weight and how steadily you pedal. With the Bosch range assistant, you can easily calculate the possible distances.
The transport of children in a suitable child seat is permitted both with normal e-bikes and with S-pedelecs. Pulling children's trailers is generally possible with normal e-bikes with a towing capacity of up to 40 kilograms, but not with S-pedelecs. Your STEVENS retailer can tell you whether a child seat or trailer coupling is compatible with your e-bike.

FAST E-BIKES OR S-PEDELECS
An e-bike battery needs a little care to last a long time. Charge the battery only in dry conditions and at temperatures specified in the operating instructions. If you want to store the battery for a longer period of time, it is best to do so at about 60 percent of its charge capacity and at a room temperature between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. Always use only the original charger.
The exchange of individual parts is largely prohibited for STEVENS e-bikes and S-pedelecs. If you would like to adapt your STEVENS e-bike to suit your individual needs, please first speak to your STEVENS retailer. Retailers have a selection of components such as handlebars, saddles and grips that can be easily exchanged. Altering the motor performance via an app is not permitted.
S-pedelecs are classified as "low powered light motorcycles" (up to 500 watts). These e-bikes provide support up to a speed of 45 km/h and can have a start-assist up to 6 km/h. As a rider, if you were born after 1 April 1965, you need at least a moped driving license, a helmet and a small insurance plate for the e-bike. In urban areas, riding on bicycle paths is not permitted, unless approved for mopeds.
