CHESSINGTON SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
08/03/2024
Dear Parents, carers and all in the Chessington community
I wanted to start by saying thank you for all of your messages of support during our Ofsted Inspection last week. Our students were a real credit to our school, but of course I am lucky enough to witness and feel that everyday I am unable to disclose the outcome of the
great school which I am immensely proud of and and even more so following feedback from our inspectors
ALTERNATIVE LEARNING DAY
Before half term we had our first Alternative Learning Day which was a huge success, here are a few of the photos from the 4 trips that ran on that day.
OLYMPIC STADIUM
VICTORIA & ALBERT MUSEUM
HAMPTON COURT PALACE
BRITISH MUSEUM
PARENT FORUM
We also held our first Parents’ Forum just before the break which was really well attended The meeting was incredibly informative and has given us some clear areas to consider and was also an opportunity to celebrate some of the things that parents who attended feel are going well As always, having parents as critical friends helps us on our improvement journey.
STAFF
In staffing news we are delighted to let you know that Mr Power (Science) is returning to us following his exciting travels to South America. He has kept in touch and is delighted to be returning just before Easter We know many students are excited to see him return You will be aware that we appointed Mr Swanepoel as Head of Design Technology last year, however, due to unfortunate circumstances he is no longer working with us Nationally, DT teachers are in significant shortage We don't use this as an excuse, only to add context but rest assured we continue to use every avenue to recruit the very best teachers our children deserve In the interim we will look at alternatives should we not be able to before the end of the year Thank you for you patience and understanding at this time
When we returned after half term we hosted our Trust wide ‘MATSET’ where all three schools came together for a joint INSET day where the focus was on collaboration and sharing great practice. All colleagues from all areas of school life were involved and there was a real buzz - every day is a school day!
JACK PETCHY’S ‘SPEAK OUT’ CHALLENGE!
On Monday this week our Year 10 ‘Speak Out’
finalists delivered their speech to the rest of the 60 contenders. The challenge is designed to support and encourage students to develop their speaking skills alongside building confidence in speech giving. The winner was Nathalia, with Sans as runner-up. They both did brilliantly and have been given Jack Petchey certificates issued by the Speakers Trust We are very proud of all six students that stood up in assembly and delivered their speeches.
Nathalia is now preparing for her Regional Final next Wednesday 13th March at Richard
