Dear Parents, carers and all in the Chessington community
On the last day of the half term we had our annual fireworks events hosted by the PTA, it was a huge success with record breaking attendance These kinds of events cannot happen without the generosity of parents supporting with the organisation months beforehand. A huge thank you to The M Bar (Mr & Mrs Curtis) who donated all of the drinks we sold during the evening
Since returning to school we have provided some awesome opportunities for our students beyond the classroom
Our Year 7 Sports Scholars are lucky enough to have a Harlequins rugby coach doing training sessions with them on Friday afternoons for the rest of this half term
Thank you to all parents who came along and supported. It was a really enjoyable evening and the rain kept away! If you are interested in joining the PTA please email Charlotte Carter at pta@chessington.kingston.sch.uk
Some of our Year 9 students have been working with Chelsea FC Foundation this term on a project to help make the fanbase of the women's team more diverse This has involved creating small group presentations which they had to pitch to their teachers and Chelsea FC Foundation. Following these pitches one lucky group were selected to go forward to present their ideas to top Chelsea FC officials at Stamford Bridge this week, going head to head with two other West London secondary schools. Our students did us proud, and were selected as the overall winner, meaning they will now get to work with Chelsea FC Women's team on an ongoing project to help them develop and diversify their fan base. Great work!
Chessington Yr 7 & 8 girls and boys competed in an indoor athletics competition this week and Miss Williams has proudly written a few sentences below:
Both the year 7 and year 8 girl squads were crowned indoor athletics borough champions. They competed against the likes of TKA, Coombe and Holyfield. Year 7s accumulated

We started this week with our remembrance service, our students lined up in our atrium to pay their respects as we held 2 minutes silence This was followed by the playing of the Last Post by Edmund and some of our student council members reading a poem. Students had spent time last week writing messages on poppies which have been displayed in the main reception area
Also this week, Mr Murray and Mr Ashton worked with colleagues from the Jack Petchey Foundation on a workshop with 60 of our Year 10 students for the annual Speak Out Challenge. All of the students had sessions on how to public speak effectively and how to create an impactful speech All of the students then presented their speeches to the rest of the group. I managed to hear a handful of them and was blown away by the confidence and content of their speeches The winners from the day were:
Woody E
Edmund C
Teanna S-S
Krishan A
Maria M
Jessica K
These students will deliver their speeches to the whole year group in assembly and then from there a selection will go on to represent Chessington against other schools.
A huge well done to all involved.
Our Year 11 Business Studies students participated in Chessington’s version of Dragon’s Den where they had to pitch their ideas to a panel. This forms part of their GCSE qualification. Some of our Governors very kindly gave up their time to be on the panels along with Forbes Low (CEO of the Kingston Chamber of Commerce) All of the panel members said that the students were fantastic and that they wouldn’t hesitate in employing some of them!
I want to once again highlight the inspiring work of one of our Year 11 students - Phoebie. Alongside preparing for her GCSE exams next summer, Phoebie has been dedicating her time and efforts to raising money and awareness for the charity Little Lady Locks ,who help to support young girls suffering with hair loss. Phoebie raised an impressive £200 selling donuts and lollies at her school fundraiser, and as if this wasn’t enough, Phoebie then went on to donate some of her own hair to the charity! In total, Phoebie has now raised £600 for a brilliant cause - we couldn’t be any prouder! Well done Phoebie! Please use the following link if you wish to donate
Last night I had the pleasure of celebrating with our Class of 2024, many ex Year 11’s returned and it was so lovely to hear of their post 16 successes, a few of them even said that they missed us! There were subject awards and some special awards given to the students, many staff attended to celebrate with them A thoroughly enjoyable evening!
It does feel as if Winter is coming, there is a chill in the air and the students are hearing me say take your coat or scarf off rather than put your blazer on! A reminder that hoodies are not allowed to be worn in school or at break or lunch
As always, please do contact me with any questions or feedback.
Warm regards,
Ms
