Dear Parents, carers and all in the Chessington community

We have had so many awesome events and activities since my last newsletter These events have gone alongside some excellent classroom based learning. Everyday when I walk around the school and visit lessons I see our students engaging with their learning and our teachers both stretching and supporting where needed I continue to be very proud of our students and staff.

OPEN EVENTS

We have now come to the end of our open events, I did have to add two more Open Mornings due to the waiting list being so long! It was lovely to see many existing parents touring round with their Year 6 children and I look forward to welcoming them to the Chessington family.

TRIPS

Our Year 10 & 11 Drama students enjoy a recent trip to the Rose Theatre to see ‘Never Let me Go’ as part of their GCSE Drama course. Members of theatre staff commented on how sensibly and respectfully the students behaved during the performance and how they were a credit to the school

Staying with trips we have over 40 Year 11’s out of a Geography field trip today as part of their GCSE course. They headed off to Box Hill to complete the fieldwork on rivers, let’s hope they all come back dry!

MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING

On Friday 4th October we hosted our annual MacMillan coffee morning, it was lovely to see the parents that came and the huge array of cakes that were on sale, a big thank you to Mrs Ford for organising and the student council members who helped serve.

OUTREACH

The Science Team have been doing some outreach work with our local primary schools, so far we have had both Year 5 & 6 from Castle Hill and they have thoroughly enjoyed the session. St Pauls & Ellingham are already booked in before the end of this half term. This is part of a wider outreach strategy to support our primary schools with some specialist subject support A big thanks to Mr West and Miss Scott for the planning and the delivery of these sessions.

INFORMATION EVENINGS

It was great to see many of our parents at the recent information evenings. A wide range of staff delivered the sessions on year group specific areas The presentations from these evenings will be shared with parents and placed on our school website. I cannot encourage attendance to these enough, sadly some parents didn’t attend and missed some valuable information and strategies to support your child

through this school year Please do checkout the resources when they are available and contact your child’s Head of Year if you have any questions

FUNDRAISER

Finally, one of our Year 11 Students, Phoebie is raising money for a charity, Little Lady Locks that supports young girls who are suffering with hair loss, she is also going to be donating some of her own hair to the charity - it would be amazing if anyone could sponsor her by following this link.

Phoebie is also going to be selling Krispy Kreme donuts on Tuesday 22nd October at lunchtime to fundraise. Very proud of her going above and beyond to help those less fortunate than her.

As always, please do contact me with any questions or feedback.
