Preface

序 國際化從落地臺東開始 臺東新創出國,從來不缺機會 ― 2017 國際文化工藝、設計交流計畫 向國際開門是現今臺東文創首要之務,將青年新創人才推向國際更是我們積 極努力的目標,不只在臺灣各地,國際上也有一群嚮往著臺東工藝的創作者 們。本府去年 (2016) 首創「臺東文創工藝學院」,特別邀請在地工藝職人擔 任導師,募集縣內有志青年學習最道地的技術與精神,而今年職人導師為悉 心栽培後進,更將絕技傾囊相授傳授國際,為建立國際工藝、設計交流管道, 今年 (2017) 媒合 3 名本縣學員林揚婷 ( 木作 )、林戎依 ( 樹皮設計 )、江秀珠 ( 月桃創作 ) 與 3 名國際工藝師—關島 Viloria Joseph Blas、藝術家—南非 Maude Brown、設計師—泰國 Rudee Tancharoen ,以交換至他國駐村創作 方式,進行駐點為期 21 天的在地技藝與國際工藝交流旅程。 這精彩旅程從 9 月由國際學員至臺東學習並體驗各工坊師資團隊所組成的本 地文化教學、10 月由本縣學員學員前往泰國、關島交流創作,親身體驗泰國 東北烏汶府 ( Ubon Ratchathani ) Ban Pa Ao 村的鑄造工藝學習,也至關島 學習查莫洛族群與土地、海洋生活連結,守護土地、文化的奮鬥故事 ...,這 次計畫成果皆在他國辦理展覽與講座,分享交流計畫過程外,也將臺東生活 及文化的美好帶到國際,而臺東更成為第一個在石龍軍路上的泰國創意設計 中心 (TCDC) 新址展出的縣市。 國際人才拉進臺東扎根,臺東人才走出國際視野。 交流之間,讓傳統工藝及自然的生活,永留那美好的智慧。

Aiming to establish exchange channel with international talents in crafts and design, and thus share each party’s culture, Department of Cultural Affairs, Taitung County Government, holds “2017 Taitung International Exchange Program on Cultural Crafts and Design.” Sending 3 Taitung craftsmen abroad to do residency and exchange with other countries, and also inviting 3 international talents in crafts and design to Taitung to learn craft techniques and experience local culture. Lin Yang Ting, a wood craftsman, Lin Yong Ei, a bark designer, and Chiang Hsiu Chu, a shell ginger craftsman, are chosen to be the Taitung Crafts participants, while Rudee Tancharoen, a Contemporary Jewelry Artist from Thailand, Maude Brown, an artist from Botswana, and Joseph Viloria Blas, a craft master from Guam , are seleted to be the International Crafts participants. These 6 people Started their journey to learn the different craft techniques, to experience local culture. during their 21-days residency.

江秀珠(Puni)

Viloria Joseph 堅持傳統漁獵、狩獵的實踐與傳承, 與維護關島在地查莫洛文化的團體,共同於查莫洛 文化中心 (Sagan Kotturan Chamoru) 經營倡議文化 工作,展示與教育查莫洛文化的生活知識系統。

熟稔月桃生長知識,希望透過月桃工藝將族人的智 慧銜接並延伸下去,現為臺東縣海端鄉馬斯林恩月 桃生態教育園區負責人,園區內已完整收集臺灣 21 種原生種月桃,透過教育進而維護布農族編織技藝。

Maude Brown

林揚婷(Panay)

來自南非的波扎那 (Botswana),對於大自然中的環 境以及生態的喜愛反映在其繪畫創作之中,擅長肖 像畫,作品色彩題材也常與動物保育議題相關,豐 富色彩及細膩描繪技巧讓畫面充滿張力及生命力。

來自臺東市馬蘭部落 (Falangaw) 的阿美青年,熱衷 故鄉及文化學習,創作靈感來自自身文化內涵與族 群意識,透過大自然線條、圖騰、色彩,結合傳統 與創新,呈現沒有框架的自我。

Rudee Tancharoen

林戎依(Alomei)

來自泰國的設計師 Rudee 畢業於曼谷朱拉隆大學工 業設計系,畢業後前往義大利學習當代珠寶設計, 以藝術的語彙賦予冰冷的金屬生命力,並成立曼谷 第一個、也是唯一提供當代飾品設計課程的工作室。

林戎依擅長結合樹皮衣特色,希望讓年輕人或更多 不認識樹皮衣的人產生興趣,進而認識阿美族精神 文化,從認識、學習到文化傳承與生活經驗的融合, 呈現傳統文化與現代美學結合的作品。

作品名稱 :回到本質 創作者:Viloria Joseph Blas 協同創作:林秀慧、江秀珠 第二次來臺東的 Joe Viloria Blas 對臺東工藝和族群文化已有初步認識, 開辦以使用自然素材為訴求的設計營,與數十位的職人一道切磋,指導 貝殼辨識及處理、學習琉璃珠以及藤編等技術。 承襲查莫洛族人擅長的身體配飾,觀察到臺東香蘭遺址文物的貝殼與關 島的貝殼圖紋相像,因此透過來自關島及臺東採集到的貝類為創作媒 材,圖樣造型參考臺東香蘭遺址文物的人物表情,透過親自至海邊採 集、刻劃以及研磨貝殼表面,希冀達到向臺東在地文化歷史致意之情。

Title:Back to Tradition Artist:Viloria Joseph Blas Assistant Team:Ata Bead Studio and Buni. Adopting accessory-making techniques from Chamorro people, Joe found that the shells ‘patterns in Chiu Hsian Lan site in Taitung are like those in Guam. As the result, he used the shells collecting from Guam and Taitung as materials and took the patterns of face emotions in Taitung Chiu Hsian Lan site as references to do the work. Collecting, carving and sanding shells by herself, he aims to pay his compliments to Taitung culture and history.

Title:Crossing the Ocean

來 自 南 非 的 藝 術 家 Maude Brown 和臺東在地的工藝師 陳正瑞及林揚婷攜手合作, 首次學習木工,即挑戰與人 等高的立體木雕創作。

The giraffe is one of the many magnificent animals endemic to the Kalahari. When thinking of Taitung ,the ocean, beautiful beaches and mountains immediately comes to mind. I chose natural elements such as the giraffe and the ocean to depict the cross-cultural dynamic of my visit from the Kalahari to Taitung.

利用漂流木原本的造型曲線 和凹槽作趣味的延伸聯想, 結合平面繪畫的專長,將來 臺東學習的技藝、阿美族的 海洋文化及跟工藝師的情誼 匯聚於作品之中。

I associate myself with the giraffe coming all the way across the ocean from Africa to Taitung. The giraffe is standing in the Taitung ocean with a bird sitting on its back. The bird is my depiction of the Taiwan Blue Magpie, which depicts cross-cultural interaction as well as representing the many friends I made during my stay here in Taitung. This sculpture is also a collaboration between me and some of the friends I made in Taiwan. Panay and Ashui are both from the Ami's tribe and therefore Amis patterns were carved on the giraffes body. The fish that are carved on the giraffe also represent the abundant ocean life in Taitung.

作品名稱 :TALALUMA 創 作 者:Rudee Tancharoen 協同創作:林戎依 TALALUMA 是阿美族族語「回家」的意 思。Rudee 將親自採集的構樹樹枝,透 過由下往上的敲打,使樹皮從構樹表面 脫離,直到可作為服飾的布料媒材,漸 變的過程暗喻著人類文明發展的路程。 希冀在邁向未來的路途中, 人們仍依循著過往的文化脈絡; 無論走得再遠,也不忘記回家的路。

Title:Way Back Home Artist:Rudee Tancharoen Assistant Team:Alomei Besides beautiful ocean and mountains, my impression of Taitung is the people. I am impressed by their enthusiasm to learn, to carry on, and to preserve precious crafts and culture of their ancestors, and their generosity to share their knowledge. During my exchange program I am so fortunate to have a chance to learn Tapa, Amis word for bark cloth making, from Alomei, a young talented Amis craftsman. Gradually transforms, the Lulan rigid thick bark becomes crumpled thin cloth. Perpetually evolution. Reach for the future but do not forget the past. Wander across the planet but do not forget the way back home.

作品名稱 :原生,延伸 創作者:江秀珠 協同創作:Viloria Joseph Blas 有別當今使用月桃葉製作容器的習性,工藝 師江秀珠回溯先人工藝脈絡,再現植物的千 種可能性,使用臺東的月桃葉及關島的貝殼、 石頭創作雙組件燈飾。 月桃吊燈透過編織成繩索之姿纏繞燈體,讓 月桃功能性及實用性加以延伸;而木桌燈一 面是將月桃葉扭轉成花,如相異文化激盪的 浪花,另一面則為月桃細繩繫起燈上的貝殼 及石頭,像是緊緊抓著兩地的情誼和南島文 化的根本,透過盈滿著關島和臺東的共同海 島元素作為表徵,傳遞著自然素材和工藝精 神的延續。 Artist:Chiang Hsiu Chu Assistant Team:Viloria Joseph Blas Puni uses natural materials from two places, the shell ginger leaves from Taitung and shells, stones from Guam, to create a series of 2-piece illuminations. Apart from the contemporary container usage of shell ginger leaves, she traces back to the context of crafts to represent the multi-usage of native plants. she made leaves into strings to twine on the illumination to be the shell ginger ceiling lamp, which extends the functional and practical aspects of shell ginger leaves. The other one of the set is the wooden table lamp. On one side of the lamp, she used shell ginger leaves to twist into flowers as the waves of two different culture sparkle. On the other side, she used the shell ginger strings to tie the shells and stones as connect the relationships of two places and Austronesian culture. With the common island elements of Guam and Taitung, the work truly delivers the extension of natural materials and spirit of crafts. 18

作品名稱 :不一樣的生活,一樣的延續 創作者:林戎依 協同創作:Rudee Tancharoen 一邊為銅,一邊為樹皮布,不同的材質, 一樣的形狀,各象徵著泰國 Ban pa-ao 村與臺東不同的生活,但皆在延續著美 好的文化工藝。 在泰國烏汶府 Ban pa-ao 村學習的期間,林戎依融入當地生活,看見 工藝的美存在於生活中:如此美好恰如家鄉小馬部落。 隨著時代演進,生活方式也跟著演變,許多文化記憶如枯葉凋零消逝。 許多工藝在生活已不常見,仍有許多人抓住僅有的文化記憶,努力地延 續傳統工藝,希望永留美好的智慧。讓傳統工藝自然的生活吧 !

Title:Different Lives, Same Continuation Artist:Lin Yong Ei Assistant Team:Rudee Tancharoen One side is brass and another side is bark cloth. They are different texture but same shapes. The work symbolises live in Ban Pa-Ao and Taitung, and continuation of beautiful crafts and cultures. Inspired from learning ancient brass-casting techniques in Ban PaAo for a week. She lives with them. See how they live with their crafts. Such fabulous experience reminds her the childhood in her home town, Piyufo tribe. With the changing of time, lives in home town are also changed. Many culture and memories gradually vanished. Many crafts are not easy to see in lives. However, there are still some people seize what we have in culture and memory and endeavour in continuing the culture and crafts, aim to keep the great wisdom forever. Let’s live with the traditional crafts! 22

作品名稱 :紮根 創作者:林揚婷 協同創作:Rudee Tancharoen 臺灣為南島語系之源頭,創作者取用來自臺東海 岸的數顆石頭、漂流木以及毛線球,象徵著海洋 上的眾多南島語族。 利用於泰國烏汶府 Ban pa ao 村學習到的鑄銅技 術,透過線條狀的銅線,將石頭相互串聯成半球 型的有機形體,就像是從傳統文化中獲取養分, 如同海洋孕育著新生的胚胎,象徵著兩國的文化及工藝的交融如無限綿 延擴散,使文化的根紮得更深。

Title:Deep Rooting Artist:Lin Yang Ting Assistant Team:Rudee Tancharoen Taiwan is the origin of Austronesian. Panay, uses stones from Taitung symbolising numerous Austronesian spreading among the sea. With ancient brass casting techniques in Ban Pa Ao, Thailand, she uses brass wires to connect stones and forms a hemi-spherical organic sculpture. Being nurtured in traditional culture as the sea is the start of embryo, the work is the integration of cultures of two countries and spreads infinitely, to root ourselves deeper.
