Que avaliação faz do sector das Telecomunicações e Tecnologias de Informação no país, tanto do ponto de vista de investimentos e infra-estruturas quanto da qualidade dos serviços? É um sector dinâmico, que teve um crescimento muito intenso nos anos mais prósperos da economia angolana, com uma ambição de qualidade internacional e uma visão de expansão que são de aplaudir. Com o abrandamento económico, sofreu, como é natural, uma retracção, até porque é um sector particularmente afectado pela depreciação da moeda, visto que muitas coisas ligadas à tecnologia são importadas, logo pagas em divisas, e as receitas são, sobretudo, em moeda nacional. Todavia, julgo que é de realçar a elevada resiliência do sector, que se foi adaptando, tentando manter a qualidade de serviço, modernizando e infra-estruturando o país. No contexto económico-financeiro actual, agravado pela Covid-19, qual é a posição que os serviços de TI devem assumir junto das empresas, em particular do sector financeiro? A Covid-19 foi um desafio para todas as empresas, mas nenhum sector ou departa-

mento foi tão desafiado como o das áreas tecnológicas. Num período muito curto, foi necessário colocar milhares de colaboradores em teletrabalho, criar condições para reuniões virtuais, adaptar aplicações, garantir disponibilidade, fiabilidade dos serviços, entre outros desafios. Considero que as áreas tecnológicas da maioria das empresas responderam à altura e merecem os parabéns dos gestores e dos accionistas. Que conselhos daria aos jovens profissionais das TIC ou aos que aspiram enveredar por essa área profissional? Parafraseando Barack Obama, numa só palavra: “Sim!!”. A procura por profissionais das TIC existe, vai continuar a crescer – a escassez de bons recursos de TIC é global. Não vejo cenário em que essa procura diminua. Não haverá empregos para a vida (são uma recordação do século XX), mas haverá desafios para a vida! Estar nas TIC é estar na carruagem que vai puxar o desenvolvimento mundial, é o melhor local para estar. Mas é importante estar bem. n

What is your assessment of the Telecommunications and Information Technology sector in the country, both from the point of view of investments and infrastructure and the quality of the services? It is a dynamic sector, which has experienced very intense growth in the most prosperous years of the Angolan economy, with a drive for international quality and a vision of expansion that is to be applauded. With the economic slowdown, it has, of course, suffered a downturn, not least because it is a sector particularly affected by currency depreciation, since many technological goods are imported, and therefore paid for in foreign currency, with the turnover, mostly, in national currency. However, I think that the high resilience of the sector, which has been adapting, trying to maintain service quality, and modernizing and building infrastructure in the country, should be highlighted. In the current economic and financial context, aggravated by Covid-19, what is the position that IT services should have within companies, particularly in the financial sector? Covid-19 has been a challenge for all companies, but no sec-
tor or department has been so challenged than the IT business units. In a very short period, it was necessary to put thousands of employees on telework, create conditions for virtual meetings, adapt applications, ensure the availability and reliability of services, among other challenges. I believe that the IT business units of most companies have responded to the challenge and deserve the congratulations of the managers and shareholders. What advice would you give to young IT professionals or those who aspire to enter this professional area? To paraphrase Barack Obama, in a single word: “Yes!” As I mentioned previously, the demand for IT professionals exists and it will continue to grow - the shortage of good IT personnel is global. I don’t see a scenario where that demand will decrease. There will be no jobs for life (they are a reminder of the 20th century), but there will be challenges for life! Being in IT is being in the chariot that will pull the world’s development, it is the best place to be. But it is important to be well. n
