VIVA STUDENT GUIDE 2009
VIVA
Manchester has a new sound and it goes by the name of SOUND CONTROL. Located on New Wakefield Street just off Oxford Road this is the newest and biggest live music venue to hit Manchester. Sound Control is set to open it’s doors to the public sometime in October just in time for all you new students arriving. We managed to pin down Sound Controls top promoter Ben Taylor to get the low down so far on this exciting new live music venue. Viva: Describe to us what Sound Control is going to be like? Ben: We are a 3 floor music venue, located perfectly in-between the Academy's and Piccadilly, just off the 42 bus route. With a basement club, you'll be seeing some great new clubnights and also live shows, a ground floor bar with some special events planned, and upstairs we give you a 350-400 capacity venue, expect to see a whole host of touring acts, guest DJs, unsigned bands and much much more, oh and the best rig in town! Viva: What bands and DJ's do you have lined up to play any big names? Ben: Wouldn't you like to know! Seriously though, at the moment it's all under wraps until we announce the first set of listings, shows are coming in all the time and there are some that will blow your minds! Viva: Tell us a bit about the sound system? Ben: We'll be having different systems on each floor, essentially downstairs will be a club, so expect to feel the bass punching your chest. In our upstairs room, you'll experience the best gig sound in Manchester, without a doubt, make sure you come down and check it out.
Viva: What kind of crowd are you hoping to attract? Ben: I don't want to pigeon hole any type of genre as I feel we're going to be able to accommodate for any type of music, and that's what we aim to do, why stop at generic Indie/dance etc... We'll be catering for all. Viva: What sort of music will be played in the club area? Ben: Again, we'll be looking to bring in all sorts of styles. There will be a massive Indie night, there will be a selection of dance based nights, and there will be some surprises. We'll also be hosting aftershow parties, so expect some big names to be popping in to spin some records. Viva: Sum up Sound Control in 3 words? Ben: Exhilarating, Dynamic and Huge. Viva will see you at the launch party!!!!
