reflections ...

On living an inspired life From the Editor

by Tim Miejan It’s very easy, I know, to fall into complacency, living by rote, doing everything today as you did yesterday and not really having the inspiration to do anything differently. Sometimes it takes a shock to the system to change that pattern. In my case, it was the flu — a particularly nasty strain that kept me sleeping and feeling miserable for more than two weeks. While slowly recovering to a state closer to normal, I received clear awareness of how unconscious I have been in several areas of my life. I realized that I have allowed some thoughts to replay in my mind for decades. It was like finding a rotting trash bag in the basement and wondering why I allowed it to sit and decay for such a long time. The answer is because I chose not to look at it. Every moment is a choice. My own mind

For far too long, I have wallowed within my own mind about how I want to create inspiring video, but I don’t have a camera. I want to pick up my brushes and acrylics and paint again, but I don’t have a space to do that. I want to write fiction, but I don’t have the time. Of course, I don’t. My reality reflects what I believe. For far too long, I have been telling those sob stories to myself and others, not real-

POWER OF WORDS

I’ve also begun to get more clear about the power of words, on how what we say, even in a quick exchange, can have a transformative effect on others — and ourselves. The key is to be present, in the moment. It’s easy to bemoan your circumstances or criticize someone who may have done you wrong. It’s even easier — and more fulfilling — to lift those circumstances or people up to the light and pray they find a way forward that benefits everyone, instead of remaining tied to the past and using a situation to play the victim. When I think of the power of words, I always remember reading an account of how John Lennon met Yoko Ono, a conceptual artist. In 1966, Lennon reportedly went to the Indica Gallery in London where Ono was preparing an exhibit.

Lennon, who did not find pleasure in art created to oppose something, walked through the exhibit unimpressed, until he saw a ladder with a spyglass at the top of it. He climbed up, looked through the spyglass and read, “YES.” That single word may have launched the relationship that changed his entire life. Takes work

Until it becomes second nature — being conscious of what I am saying as I am saying it and what I am doing as I am doing it — it takes work. Being aware is an active process — and it’s one that I choose to undertake. I am also committed to being more conscious of what I am thinking and ignoring old patterns that do not move me or others forward. In every moment, we can choose how we affect ourselves and others. We can do what we’ve always done, unconsciously, or we can actively address a situation from the perspective that how we respond will make all the difference. Do you believe you have that much effect on things around you? Choose to, and everything changes. a Tim Miejan is editor and co-publisher of The Edge, as well as a writer, editor and graphic designer who assists small businesses and individuals with promotions and projects. Theosophical symposium addresses need to raise our consciousness Grassroots humanity needs a clear vision, speaker says Bishop Bill Torvund and Dr. James Ulness will lead a symposium on surviving the crisis that faces humanity by raising our consciousness from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Spirit United, 3204 Como Ave. SE, Minneapolis. “Survival: The Need to Raise the Frequency of our Consciousness Now” is part of the Ancient Mysteries / Ancient Wisdom series sponsored by the Minneapolis Theosophical Society. Celtic harpist Bettie Seitzer will provide special live music. James Ulness, Ph.D., of Fargo is professor emeritus in psychology at Concordia College in Moorhead. He spent years integrating the best of main stream psychology with the depth psychology of Carl Jung and the spiritual insights of Rudolf Steiner. “We need a better plan on how to bring about greater sanity to our life on this planet,” according to Dr. Ulness. “It is as if we are all on a big ship sailing into uncharted waters. Are the Dark Forces involved in what’s happening? What about Angels? Do we have invisible helpers? In all this confusion it is clear that leaders on all levels are not going to get us there, since they can’t agree on where there is. “Grassroots humanity needs a clear vision. The first step toward clear vision is the overcoming of fear and anxiety, which seems to have been deliberately induced. In addition, we need to raise our consciousness. Is this possible? Absolutely, it is,” Ulness said. Dr. Ulness will be joined in the symposium on consciousness by Bishop Bill Torvund, an international spiritual teacher and healer and the founder of the Sanctuary of the On in Portland, Ore. Bishop Torvund’s presentation will focus on the dynamics of attunement to the interdimensional transformation of the 19th Mayan Baktu’n Cycle that began Dec. 21, 2012, and ends Dec. 16, 2247. The Saturday symposium will include free refreshments and free parking in the lot east of the church, located three blocks west of Highway 280 on Como Ave. SE. Reservations may be made at the door on the day of the event. Admission is $35 for adults, $55 for couples or families, and $30 for students, seniors or T.S. members. Ancient Mysteries / Ancient Wisdom is the Minneapolis branch of the international Theosophical Society with headquarters in India. The group meets at Spirit United, but is otherwise not affiliated with any religion or political group. It encourages freedom of personal interpretation and an open-minded spiritual quest. by Tim Miejan Two renowned speakers — Dr. James Ulness, professor emeritus in psychology at Concordia College in Moorhead, and Bishop Bill Torvund, an international spiritual teacher and healer and founder of the Sanctuary of the On in Portland, Ore. — offered some insight into their June 6 event in a brief interview with The Edge. You will be a key speaker at the event entitled “Survival: The Need to Raise the Frequency of our Consciousness Now.” Why do you feel called to participate in this event? Dr. James Ulness: There

is much being said or written about the future, ranging from the “sugar and spice and everything nice” view on one side to the extremely dark “doom-and-gloom” view Dr. Ulness on the other. In between are more sensible, more balanced views that are worth being considered. One voice which needs to be heard is that of Theosophy. Bishop

Bill

Torvund:

There has been significant discussion since the so-called “2012 Transition” about the nature of what dimensions of consciousness Bishop Torvund are being involved in the cycles of transformation that are occurring in this and other planes of existence. Many people in the consciousness movement did not readily sense any “changes” on Dec. 21, 2012, nor even subsequent to that date, and became quite disillusioned and confused about what may or may not have happened during that time and afterwards. Thus, it would seem appropriate to clarify for the people of the various consciousness movements, a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of these cyclical patterns of higher evolution and how to attune to them more effectively. Also, the use of the term “frequency” with respect to consciousness evolution, in my opinion, needs to be better explained and clarified. The nature of “frequency” is actually a scientific term that really has a very limited meaning with respect to human conscious evolution in a broader context of the issues

and imperatives of conscious awakening. It is often a problem in the so-called “New Age” movement that persons without sufficient background use terminology that from a strictly scientific standpoint is inaccurate, or at best is metaphorical. I intend to clarify and better define terms such as “frequency,” “vibration,” “cycle,” “rhythm” and other common expressions so that there can be a better basis of correct understanding of the underlying principles of the fusion of science and spirituality concerning these concepts and how they can be applied to conscious growth and evolution. Inherent in the title of this event is the suggestion that if something dramatic is not done now to change the course of the planet, then humanity may be in peril. How do you respond? Bishop Torvund: It is certainly true that

the human race is on the cusp of some very important cyclical changes in all aspects of our biological, vital/energetic and spiritual continuums. These cyclical patterns, however, have been going on in their various permutations for tens of thousands of years. As to the matter of the human race being “in peril,” it could be said that the human race has been in such a predicament for several tens of thousands of years. The second interplanetary war that resulted in the the destruction of Atlantis in 8,498 BCE was only one of several such cataclysmic events in those destructive patterns where human consciousness did not remain in alignment to the Divine Plan of Creation. The conscious crises of even hundreds of thousands of years before that time caused the destruction of the Lemurian subcontinents in Micronesia and Asia, also due to the loss of higher alignment. I will be discussing these issues as well, and clarifying the cycles of cataclysmic destruction and their causes. Dr. Ulness: We are definitely at a turning point. It is actually a choice point, because it depends on the choices we make. Some will take the high road, some will take the low road. The low-road takers will drag humanity through some very tough times. But, the people of good will must never lose hope nor weary of doing good. Who among the world leaders today — if any — demonstrate the consciousness to take us beyond survival, into a world that   Symposium

The secret name of God: Key to the Universe by Warren King You have self-consciousness; you can realize you have existence. You can perceive through your senses, but you also know you have a unique identity that is not shared by anyone else in all creation. You are the universe perceiving itself through your particular awareness. Many people have the belief that there is a God. That He created the Earth and us, but is somehow now quite distant and just lets things here take their course. So how do we connect our individual identity with the ultimate Diety. There is a secret key that was given in the Old Testament that has been lost to most of us. Remember when Moses ascends the mountain and God appears through an angel speaking from the burning bush. When he is told to go and set His people free, Moses says that he has a speech impediment and that no one will believe him. Then he asks the big question: “What is your Name?” The answer is quite interesting. “I AM that I AM — tell them that I AM has sent you.” Then He continues, saying, “This is my name and a memorial for all generations.” The Hebrew interpretation of this name is Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh. The first letters of this Hebrew name are four letters — YHVH. If you try to add vowels so you can pronounce it, it would be Yehovah. But is it not a name like Juan or Carlos; it is a statement of being. The priests said the name was too holy, so they would just use words like Adonai, meaning “Lord.” But that is not the name that was supposed to be a memorial for all generations. It was I AM. Self conscious awareness. When you say I AM, you are saying “God in me is,” and you are affirming your spiritual reality. I AM that

continued

is thriving, and how are they doing that? Dr. Ulness: I consider these — Thich Nhat

Hanh, Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, teacher, author, poet and peace activist; Mae Chee Sansanee, the spiritual leader of Thailand; Yeshayahu Ben-Aharon, Israeli philosopher; John Kerry, U.S. Secretary of State; and Arianna Huffington, co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post — to name just a few. What suggestions do you have on how each individual reading this now can raise his or her consciousness? Bishop Torvund: The primary directive

given by the ascended masters and spiritual teachers of the various dimensions seems to be that the human race must again center itself into the Source consciousness of Divine Love. The problem for most people in contemporary society is that they take such a complacent and casual attitude towards spiritual development, and have become so distracted by temporal life and the use of telecommunication devices and media instead of involving themselves into their inner spiritual growth, and the attunement to higher knowledge within themselves rather than depending upon others to provide them with derivative teachings for which they have no primary experiential way of validating and integrating. 10  www.edgemagazine.net

I AM! The God who is all consciousness is the I AM in me, my soul here and now. Saint Germain told us that using the I AM name is throttling the power of the universe. Jesus used it all the time: “I AM the way, I AM the truth, I AM the life, I AM the resurrection.” When you feel financial lack, don’t affirm, “I am broke.” God in you cannot be broke. You say, “I Am the full abundance and supply of every perfect thing that I require now!” He tells us that this I AM God Self is not in some dusty corner of the universe, but right above us as a sun of Light clothed in rainbow glory. It is connected, like an umbilical cord to the flame of spiritual reality anchored in your heart. With every heartbeat, God’s light is flowing from you and you have the power, through your free will and the spoken word, to let that perfection manifest in your world — or to misqualify that energy and create suffering or limitation. Ask your I AM Presence to enter your world and take its dominion there. Use the power of the I AM name to affirm what is the real and true reality. Accept God as right above you and anchored in your heart. And remember: “I AM with you always even until the end of the age.” a Warren King has used energetic methods of healing for over 20 years and has worked with over 8,000 people to regain their health. He combines Oriental Medicine with homeopathy along with a refined intuition to help him get to the root causes of issues. His specialty is Auricular Medicine, which uses the ear as a map of the whole body, which allows him great accuracy in the diagnosis and treatment of health issues. What ancient spiritual techniques or principles are being called forward now to assist planet Earth and humanity? Dr. Ulness: Ancient Wisdom made appro-

priate for our changing times — this is what Theosophy/Anthroposophy is. What we don’t need is warmed-over wisdom that was appropriate for past ages. We have evolved. Our consciousness has evolved. We need what is appropriate for us now. Bishop Torvund: Simply put, the problem with most people — even teachers — is that everyone seems to be addicted to the notion of the need for “techniques,” and that such efforts are the manner in which people evolve. Certainly techniques can be helpful, but without the core awareness of Divine Love and the attunement and alignment to higher love, none of these methods will ultimately be successful. One can teach many traditional methods of transcendence and transformation, but without the empowering grace of Divine Love, all such efforts will remain empty and devoid of higher consummation and completion into the cosmic continuum. This was perhaps the most important message from some of the conditions that brought about the Atlantean Cataclysm, and unfortunately we could be following in the same destructive pattern again if we are not careful. What message do you want to leave with participants at the event — and what would

you like to share with the consciousness of every person on the planet if that were possible? Bishop Torvund: Since I cannot predict the

group consensus consciousness of the event, I cannot say exactly what the final “message” will be, as I am there to serve their need to be empowered by what I am guided to offer them, and I’ll respond to their field of conscious awareness. But the underlying theme of my discussions will be to find Divine Source Love and alignment. It is ultimately Divine Love that is unifying and transformational, and is the highest and supreme of all Truth in all dimensions and planes of existence. In this time in history of dehumanization and destructuring of cultural traditions and spiritual wisdom, it would seem that we now have the imperative to empower those influences which will assist us to re-claim our divine essence and resultant evolutionary unfoldment. Dr. Ulness: When seen from a Theosophical/ Anthroposophical viewpoint, there is good reason to be optimistic about the future, but this is not a foregone conclusion. For it to happen, more and more people need to awaken to the realities of our time and make the effort to raise their level of consciousness. This Symposium is designed to help make this happen. a

May horoscope: Tending to growth Lunar Adventures

studying, traveling, meditating and/or writing.

Sound Bites

Now that the dust has begun to settle, after the final Uranus-Pluto duo and the blast of the most recent set of eclipses, the Sun in Taurus seeks to harness the wild energy and use it to create something practical and tangible, like a garden. The emotional and psychological dust that arose during the recent flurry of astrological activity is the dirt that we can use to grow food that will feed us.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)…Your finances may be affected at the Full Moon, so watch your spending. It’s possible to make money from a business or career, now, but think about making investments. Your needs are important, so focus on what makes you feel secure and comfortable. Pay off debts and donate to charities at the New Moon.

by Julie McMahon One of my favorite healthy eating strategies is to make a couple salads on the weekend that I can munch on throughout the week. That way, when I need a healthy snack or a quick graband-go lunch I have something all ready to go. Lately, I’ve been exploring some new recipes with lentils. Who can resist these protein packed, fiber rich little gems that are tasty, nutritious and easy to digest?! Here’s a recipe I created from what I had on hand in my refrigerator and I thought it was so lovely that you might enjoy it to. Have it alone, or pair with a green salad for extra fun!

Lovely Lentil Salad 1 1/2 cups lentils, uncooked 1/2 red onion, chopped 1 bunch green onions, chopped 2 carrots, chopped 1 orange or yellow pepper 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 T Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 T Red Wine Vinegar Juice from 1 freshly squeezed lemon Himalayan Salt to taste Black Pepper to taste Gomasio (Blend of sesame seeds, seaweed and salt) (optional) Braggs Organic Sea Kelp (optional) 1. Wash lentils and put in pot with 4 1/2 cups water. Bring to a boil, turn down to simmer and cook until tender but not falling apart (about 25 minutes). Drain and run under cold water. 2. Chop red and green onions, carrots, pepper and garlic and put in a medium-size bowl. Add the drained and cooled lentils. Add olive oil, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, Himalayan Salt and Black Pepper. 3. The last two ingredients are optional, but are a regular grab from my cupboard. I love to sprinkle the Gomasio and Sea Kelp on my salads for a little extra flavor and as a way to get my sea veggies in. Aries (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)…The Full Moon may bring buried emotions to the surface, and you may feel like a victim. Take your inner child by the hand, and turn towards the future. Increased self-esteem is possible at the New Moon. Focus on the Power of Love, and create an affirmation around selfworth. Reiterate your value over and over. Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)…You’ve been experiencing a lot of inner growth and expansion, and it’s time to release old beliefs and evaluate your relationships to determine if they align with the new you. Devote yourself to your goals, and use your determination to express yourself. Present the new you to the world! Gemini (May 21-June 20)…Are you satisfied with your work, or are you feeling restless and desiring a change? Now is not the time to make a change, but to do some soul-searching, instead. Spend some time by yourself at home, and let your mind wander. Make sure you’re being honest with yourself, as well as others. Cancer (June 21-July 22)…The Full Moon could bring a controlling relationship to an end or a happy relationship to a more passionate level. If you are single, seek a lover and friends who are Soul companions. The New Moon would be a good time to join a group or class. Have fun! Jupiter will help you to feel worthy and attract good fortune. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)…This month you need to strike a balance between work and home. Pay attention to home matters at the Full Moon, because the New Moon will be a good time to put energy into your career. You may not have a choice. A domestic crisis may occur at the Full Moon. Have faith and take care of your health. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)…The Full Moon is a good time to express how you feel to a significant other, and have her/him hear you. Stay focused on self-growth. This is a good time to rid yourself of deep-seated fears. At the New Moon, continue to focus on yourself, and expand your mind by

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)…The Full Moon in Scorpio will shine its light on you! It’s time to figure out what your needs are, and how to balance them with the needs of others. Let go of relationships that do not hold deeper meaning for you; keep relationships that provide Soul growth. Use your powerful words to transform your relationships. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)…Now would be a great time to take a vacation or talk with a therapist to get back in touch with yourself. Your own thoughts become clearer by talking with others. You also may be playing the role of a counselor for a family member, coworker or employee, at this time. Helping others can make you feel better. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan.19)…You’ve been coming into your power, and learning how to be more assertive, but now is the time to let go of control a bit, and allow things to happen with little effort. It’s also a time to be with friends, have fun and allow your imagination to flow. Try putting your thoughts into creative words, like poetry or lyrics. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)…At the Full Moon, let go of emotional and psychological blocks that hold you back, and put your unique self out there. Let others know about your accomplishments. You can expect public approval. At the New Moon, focus on your home and family. If you purchase home-related items, watch your finances. Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)…It looks like you will be learning a new skill in a group setting, this month, and experience much personal growth, mentally and spiritually. Open your mind to new ideas, and broaden your imagination. You also may teach others. Offer what you’ve learned. Moving beyond illusion, entering higher realms of consciousness A Pleiadian Message

by Christine Day Beloved ones we greet you. Now is the time to emerge from your cocoon like a butterfly, to take flight and claim your freedom. The energies that are coming onto the planet are supporting your re-emergence from this 3rd dimensional illusion to the higher realms, into the light, your light. There is much to celebrate at this time. Your planet is in a transitional phase of awakening, moving from a 3rd dimensional illusion to a 4th/5th dimensional reality. You are also in your own transitional phase, through the changes within the electrical systems of your own physical body. This transition within your systems enables you to begin to house and work with an aspect of your light that is part of your higher self. This accelerated awakening involves you becoming aware of your potential to create and to actively channel your own energies consciously in your day-to-day lives. You can begin to create for yourself that which brings a self-fulfillment within you. There is a vast energetic team on your earth plane for the very task of supporting you in your transition. This is a collective group made up of the

Universal community, as well as the Spiritual community. Our role, as Pleiadians within this team, is to bring you information and light initiations to assist you in your unfolding. These sacred tools that we offer to you will empower you to take conscious steps forward on your path. They will enable you to access Truth that will assist you in understanding the dynamics of your relationship within the Universal and Spiritual community. Through this comprehension, you will able to consciously take your place and play an active role within the Universal Collective Consciousness. Shifting perception

As you work with these tools, you will be given access to doorways for you to enter higher realms of your consciousness. This state of consciousness shifts your perception to align to Truth, so that you carry this frequency to your life. Your physical systems have been prepared for you to channel this new frequency of light that is contained by aspects of your pure source energy that is your higher self. A stage is set for you to re-emerge into this higher aspect of your self and you are ready.   Pleiadian

You may ask how is this possible? The ego mind cannot conceive any of this because it is seeped within the 3rd dimensional illusion. It knows nothing else. You are more than a 3rd dimensional being. You are a multi-dimensional Spiritual being capable of creating in the higher realms of 4th/5th dimensional and beyond. This is your stepping stone to realign back to your true home base. As you move beyond the illusion of 3rd dimension and bring yourself into a re-alignment to your “home base” of the 4th/5th dimensional reality, in time you will fully remember your Spiritual aspect. Remembering who you are is as natural as remembering, how to breathe. You each have a significant role to play right now on this earth plane. You have said “yes” to being here and to assist in this powerful transitional phase. We know that many of you are struggling as you continue to be fully immersed within the 3rd dimensional drama and get totally overwhelmed with the illusions of fear and lack. We are aware of the building intensity within the human drama as you continue to engage with the ego mind. We have been witnessing you playing out this 3rd dimensional illusion and we hold each one of you with love; you have great courage. Know that we understand how pervasive this illusion has been, and we say to you, “Do not judge your self too harshly. Let go of the shame and guilt that you carry for the things you perceive to have done, or not done. You have come to have this human experience of making mistakes. This has been a part of your learning process.” Anchoring of Truth

Now this learning process is coming to an end with the anchoring of Truth that is activated within the 4th/5th dimensional energies that are evolving on your earth plane. This energetic Truth creates a changing dynamic of you beginning to remember an authoritative aspect of your self, your higher self. As naturally as the sun rises in the morning over the horizon, you will rise and begin to recognize your Self. Now is the time, it is your time! Let us give you an analogy. The reality is that you are the central figure within your world. See your self as a player on a stage, and you being the main actor. All the people in your life are the other players on the stage. Everyone is playing a role for you to have your experiences and similarly, you are playing a role for them to have their experiences. Begin to witness what it is you have created. Look at your circumstances and observe what is taking place in your life. Examine the people who are in your life, the other players who are on the stage with 14  www.edgemagazine.net

…We say to you, “Do not judge your self too harshly. Let go of the shame and guilt that you carry for the things you perceive to have done, or not done. You have come to have this human experience of making mistakes. This has been a part of your learning process.” you. Do they need to stay on your stage or leave? Some of these people may no longer belong there. Who is supportive? Who is undermining you? Do a review. You may not be able to make any changes right now about this new perspective of the people on your stage. However, it is empowering to have this clarity about the other players on your stage and register these truths to your self. It is also necessary to explore all aspects of your creation, the beautiful and the shadow, all the very challenging parts within you. Know that you are not a victim with any one of your life experiences. You have drawn to you a series of events in order to learn, to feel what is inside of you within your human vulnerability. Your life has always been about you. Every experience has been designed for you specifically. You are the central figure within each experience. A new creation

Once you have claimed what you have created in your life now, you can begin to consciously choose to work on a new creation for your self, drawing on your higher consciousness to guide your creations. Know that the energetic light forces coming onto your earth plane this month are designed to support you in harnessing your creation energy to establish what you want in your life. As you begin to tap into and utilize your creation energies you will feel a sense of personal power moving within you, a new sense of purpose, joy and excitement. As though your reason for being here is finally being realized as you take this next step. There have been veils in place until very recently and they have been preventing you from experiencing this full potential aspect of your self. These veils have held you in a place of “not knowing,” not understanding this higher aspect of your self. In the last days of April these series of veils were lifted on your planet. It was simply the time. Through this lifting of veils there are many sacred aspects of your self that can now be revealed to you. Your next step is to consciously begin to align to this new dimensional energetic so that you can take your place and re-align to your natural birthright to create. All alignment can only be done through your heart center. Your heart offers a natural link that takes you beyond the 3rd dimensional illusion framework to the higher dimensional realities. Know that everything arises from

your center, which is your heart space. In order to create, your focus must come from your central place. We remind you, it is only through your heart’s desire that you can birth your new creations. Your next step

We offer you a series of tools for your transitional next step. These will assist you to realign to higher dimensional states where you can begin repositioning back to your pure source connections and begin a further process of metamorphosis within you. There are powerful supportive energies available for each one of you who choose to take this important step. For many of you it is a destiny call. We encourage you to work within this process in a group setting. There is always an expansion of energy and a stronger anchoring that takes place within a group dynamic that brings an acceleration to the transition of each individual group member. If you are alone, then sit in a circle with six places set. You take one place and the other five places will be held by us, the Pleiadians and the Spiritual realms. Note: The energy of the fire element is important here. The fire carries the creative frequency, activating your creative power within you. Use a candle to bring this element from the flame within your circle. The Process The following is the nine-step process: 1. Each person opens up to their own place in the circle, claiming their place. That means you claim your place where you sit, and consciously feel yourselves present. 2. Hold your heart space with the palms of both hands and bring your awareness there and let go with your breath, like a deep sigh. Feel your connection to your place in the circle through your heart, and let go, taking another deep breath. Feel yourself anchoring, like roots of a tree going down into the earth. 3. Bring your awareness back to your heart center and link deeper into your heart by bringing your breath like a soft wind into your heart where you feel the warmth/pressure of your hands. Then begin to open into the light of the flame, bring your awareness into the flame, open to the pure frequency, the fluidity and the light of the flame. Bring your awareness and

breath into the flame, and let go. 4. Feel how the energy, the elements of the flame link into your heart. How your heart somehow is responding to those elements, maybe opening up like a flower to the sun, or you may experience a movement or fluidity happening within your heart space as you are moved into another dimensional element within your heart. 5. Now bring your awareness fully into the energy of the flame and bring in the sound, “AE InDah.” This sound opens up the energy held within the flame. 6. Now bring your awareness into your heart and use the sound “AE InDah.” Feel how your heart begins to respond and open to these higher dimensional aspects that are now available. 7. Open up your hand position. You do this by bringing your thumbs together and your index fingers together. The other fingers are not touching. Bring your awareness into the triangular opening created by the hand position and your self being received through the doorway, aligning you deeper within your heart space opening. 8. Now bring your sound, “AE InDah,” into the doorway of your hand position. Bring your awareness deeper into your experience and breathe, like a soft wind into this space, and let go. Do this three times. 9. Then integrate by bringing your awareness into your heart while holding your heart space with

both hands and anchoring through your place in the circle. reconnections

You can repeat this full process of steps 1-9. Not more than three individual times in any one circle “session.” You are going to need to build these higher dimensional reconnections through your heart until you experience a stability within your heart space, when the energies are no longer building within your heart space as you use the sound, “AE InDah.” It will take a series of individual “sessions” within your circle to achieve this state. Then work through this full process of steps 1-9 with the sound “EE NarVae.” Finally, work through this full process of steps 1-9 with the sound “InDee Sah.” Each sacred sound will align you to the higher realm dimensional reconnections through your heart space, anchoring you to deeper levels of your higher realm self. Know that you can call us forward to support you in your process. We witness you. Blessings, The Pleiadians a Christine Day is a leading spiritual teacher, healer, channel and author. Multidimensional Healing with your Inner Child An interview with Cathryn Taylor by Tim Miejan A former traditional therapist turned multidimensional healer, Cathryn Taylor has fine-tuned her approach to helping people beset by tragic occurrences in their lives — be it incest, divorce bankruptcy, illness and accident — to include much more than the inner child work for which she is best known. Author of The Inner Child Workbook, Cathryn is focused on helping her clients heal from the inside out. “What I am offering people is a chance to look at the events of their lives through the eyes of their soul and from the perspective of what they can learn from these experiences,” she says. “In fact, I am inviting them to entertain the thought that perhaps these events were charted by their soul so they would learn a particular lesson. Is there a purpose to your pain?” She spoke with The Edge about her process, and how new research on the brain is allowing her to help clients create a new paradigm through which to view their experiences and live unencumbered by circumstances of the past. Your book, The Inner Child Workbook, was published in 1991. Since then it has been translated into four languages, most recently Korean and Czech, and is well into its 40th edition. To what do you attribute its success and longevity? Cathryn Taylor: I think there are several

reasons why this book has had such a dynamic shelf life, and it begins with the fact that The Inner Child Workbook was one of five books published in the late 1980s and early 1990s that really popularized the inner child concept. My perception of that is that the Universe at that time wanted that information to be communicated. I think it was just time for that material to come through. That was not the first time inner child work was publicized. It had been addressed in Transactional Analysis, and in the late 1950s a book about the inner child had been written, but the concept was not really popularized until recently. I think that it was just a natural progression of the evolution of the human potential movement, which began in the 1960s. Since then, a lot of research has been conducted and it continuously shows that whatever challenges we are experiencing in adulthood, they can be directly related back to what we experienced in our childhood and the coping mechanisms we developed as a way to survive. How do you define the inner child and what was it in your own history that inspired you 16  www.edgemagazine.net

For all the different ways that we sabotage and derail ourselves, I believe it is essential to move from being a victim of our circumstances to truly being a student of them. Each person has to develop a recipe for that and be their own chef. Cathryn Taylor to make inner child work the focus of your professional career? CT: The inner child simply gives a face to

the feelings that we had in childhood. That is important because the difference between then and now is that we are now an adult who has acquired certain tools, experiences and skills to deal with life and are in a position to interact with that younger part of self — and that brings us into selfempowerment and self-accountability. When we begin to do inner child work and look at our younger, more vulnerable feelings as the wounded children within us, it creates what I call “the vertical relationship.” Instead of projecting those needs out into our relationships — which is more horizontal, where we are wanting our partner to meet those needs or our boss to meet those needs — we are in a position to deal with our inner child and respond to the needs instead of collapsing from them. It is vital to see that inner child as a separate part of our personality that we can relate to. My first experience was when I had to write a paper in a marriage and family therapy class called “The Family of Origin.” The paper was supposed to 5 to 7 pages

long, and mine ended up being 54 pages. It became an outpouring of my reaction to my dad’s nervous breakdown when I was 17. I was just getting ready to walk into adulthood, and then I saw the most important man in my life, someone I really modeled myself after, really cave in. I wrote my first inner child piece at that point. I remember sitting in that class and looking at the clock. It was 10:00 a.m. and I knew my dad was getting electric shock treatments at that moment. I remember thinking, “I wonder if this is going to happen to me?” That really affected my process of moving into adulthood — and it became my focus to resolve his nervous breakdown. The first time I really heard the inner child was when I had a breakup at the age of 35. A psychic told me a little girl needed me to talk to her. That was the first time I went home and did the actual meditation, connecting with my inner child.

How do we know if we have inner child work that needs to be done? CT: If our life is not working. If there is

a challenge in our day-to-day life that we cannot deal with in the moment, and if we are rehashing a conversation over and over in our mind, then that is probably an indication that we have triggered an old wound. An energetic blueprint is established when we had a wounding experience in childhood, and that energetic experience follows us into adulthood. We may be having a conversation with our boss or our partner and all of a sudden, they say something that reminds us energetically or vibrationally of that past trigger. In that moment, we regress and are seeing that situation through the inner child’s eyes. Even though we may be in our thirties or forties, we are responding to that interaction with the same coping mechanisms that we had as a child. If your life is not working, first look at the inner child and then pull that thread into what your soul wants you to learn from that experience. You talk about the woundedness that draws us to look at the inner child. Can you explain a little bit about that? CT: First, it’s important to differentiate

between the wounded inner child and the Divine inner child. All of us come in our bodies with an innocence and an essence of trust. Then we have what’s called “The Essential Wound,” that first moment when we experience the world as unsafe. Some of us experience that in utero, so we don’t even make it into the Earth plane physically without having that energetic blueprint. When that happens, our psyche begins

to fragment so that we can develop and continue our evolution, even though it’s built upon a faulty foundation. At each juncture when we have to confront some sort of situation when we feel unsafe, we develop ways to deal with that. Those become what I call “the operating system of our psyche.” In childhood, they can be survival mechanisms or ways of coping. When we move into adulthood, the selfsabotage is really not coming from an evil, misguided part of us. As we move into more of an adult vibration, that brings in more and more light. We become more expanded as human beings. What most people don’t understand is that the more illuminated we get, the more illuminated our shadow self gets. For instance, when my book came out, all of a sudden I was in a position of having to appear before crowds of people. That triggered my 6-year-old inner child who was called Froggy in grade school because I had such a low voice. Every time I would try to speak in public or teach classes, I became anxious and my voice would shake. That 6-year-old was not trying to sabotage me. The intent was to protect me from being ridiculed. It’s important for people to understand that when we feel self-sabotage, it is because we have collapsed into the inner child — an inner child who is looking for an adult to offer protection before we move forward. Do we all have the capacity to overcome this woundedness? CT: Oh, absolutely! I think the psyche is very

kind. What I mean by that is that these issues don’t emerge unless we are in a position to gather the necessary components to heal, even though it doesn’t feel that way at times. Especially at this juncture in human development and spiritual evolution, so many techniques can assist people who are willing. For all the different ways that we sabotage and derail ourselves, I believe it is essential to move from being a victim of our circumstances to truly being a student of them. Each person has to develop a recipe for that and be their own chef. The hardest part is when we’re in the victim stance and we want somebody to take care of us. We go to doctors to take care of us and tell us what to do. We go to therapists to take care of us and tell us what to do. We go to groups and hope that the group will save us. It’s really about making a decision to heal. Once we do that, the necessary components start coming to us. It’s the old saying, “The Universe never gives us more than we can handle.” If it’s in front of our face, our higher self believes that we can handle it, and, in fact, wants us to.

Now I understand you are weaving the inner child focus into the task of one’s soul. How did that link occur?

CT: That happened quite accidentally.

Shortly after The Inner Child Workbook came out, I started receiving a lot of requests to do workshops around the country. Fortunately, I was able to close down my house, buy an RV, and my dog and I took off for a year all around the United States. During that experience, I was able to work with hundreds of people from all different walks of life. That led me into the multidimensional perspective. When we would do the inner child meditation, I would ask them what was not working in their current life. They would talk about that. I would get them into a relaxed state and then ask them to focus on the first remembered experience of that same tension in their bodies, because our body records these experiences. I began to see that they would describe situations that were not of this time and place, hopping from lifetime to lifetime. Then I had my own multidimensional experience one night in a bathtub in Washington, D.C., when the circumstances of my current life and a past life collided. I was taking a bath and all of sudden I went into a spontaneous regression of a lifetime when I had slit my wrists in the bathtub. The experience was so real that had I not had my psychological background at the time, I probably would have ended up thinking that I was having a psychotic break and would have been put on Thorazine. But by that time, I had done enough of the inner child work that I knew what was happening and I had enough support. That evolved into the sequel To The Inner Child Workbook, called, Which Lifetime Is This, Anyway? It was just another progression of my work.

You state that your modality works with the mind, heart, body and soul. Can you explain what you mean by that and why those four areas are so important? CT: The importance of those four areas

is that this is how the psyche processes information. When we have an experience, we develop certain belief systems about such experiences and we have a certain emotional response to that. The combination of the belief — about being unsafe — combined with the emotions that go with that lack of safety become what is called “the energetic blueprint.” That energetic blueprint is the vibrational frequency that gets stored in the cellular memory of our body — and it becomes activated any time we come up against a situation that holds that same energy. Consider the example that I used earlier. If we had a father who was intimidating when we were children, then that energetic blueprint is recorded in our physical form, in our cellular structure. When we have a fight with a boss or a fight with a loved one, that energetic blueprint is activated.

To heal that, we have to deal with the belief system and the emotional component, where they are stored in the body, and then we explore where we first experienced that pattern in the history of our soul. That leads us to where that energetic blueprint originated in our soul’s history. The presence of that energetic blueprint in our soul’s history can generate a post-traumatic stress signal from another lifetime that gets activated in our childhood experiences, and then gets acted out in our present experience. When we want to heal, we first heal in present time. We deal with the anxiety and the stress that our adult self is experiencing now. Then, when we have empowered the adult, we can go back and re-work that scene so the inner child is rescued. That’s where a lot of people stop in the process. But, we also have to go back and free that energetic blueprint, which is a suspended aspect of our soul. We get that aspect of the soul back to the light and then that post-traumatic stress signal is no longer reverberating. Once we do that, we rewire our brain with new paradigms, heal our wounded heart, dissolve that energetic blueprint in our bodies and replace it with peace and calm. Then we have recognized the purpose of the pain for the soul and there is no longer any reason to hold onto it. We can release it in all dimensions of time and consciousness so it doesn’t weave back and continue to eclipse our current lifestyle. How do you define your current modality and how do you describe what you do for others, briefly, if somebody asks you? CT: I let clients know that my expertise is

the inner child, and that I have added to my modality the ability to access one’s Akashic records — the record of the soul. I’m also certified in energy therapy called EFT and have developed my own brand of tapping, the self-administered form of acupressure that I teach people and use with people in my practice sessions to change these energetic blueprints. EFT is what really changes the energetic pattern, because it deals with the electrical circuitry of the body I’m also an addiction counselor and there is just not much that I have not seen, and so I work with helping them move from being a victim of their circumstances to being a student by empowering their adult self so they can respond instead of collapse.

How are new approaches in the understanding of the brain informing your professional evolution? CT: It’s interesting you ask that, because

that has been the latest addition to what I am offering my clients. I’m taking an online class right now with Dr. Richard Hanson, author of Buddha’s Brain, who does a lot of   Inner

work with hardwiring the brain for happiness. I love this piece because when I mix it with my interactive tapping sequences, it really addresses the building of new neuropathways. All of the old memories from our soul and our childhood that are housed in the lower part of the brain can now be worked with and new responses can be created. We move from what Dr. Hanson calls the “red zone of reactivity” to the “green zone of relaxation.” Neuroplasticity and the new research of brain science is really establishing hope and busting the belief that we are only who we are. I used this with my stepson the other day. He was responding to me about some behavior, and he looked at me and said, “Well, that’s just the way I am.” And I said, “Well, aren’t you lucky that you live in a time when neuroplasticity has just been discovered, because you are not stuck with that behavior.” That’s the truth. We used to get away with saying, “Well, accept me because that’s just the way I am.” Neuroplasticity pops that bubble, because there are dynamic ways to create and maintain a new paradigm in our brain. I think it’s the most exciting thing that has happened in a long time. How do the therapy and counseling professions view the integration of cutting edge science and principles of spirituality that you are incorporating into your practice? CT: It really varies, actually. One of the

reasons that I no longer “practice” therapy is because when I started using the Akashic records and EFT tapping, I was moving out of being able to provide services that were “insurance-friendly.” I moved away from wanting to diagnose people, because that felt limiting. Different veins of psychology embrace more of the spiritual perspective, such as transformational psychology and transcendental psychology, which invite that. But traditional psychotherapy, which you get in

18  www.edgemagazine.net

a hospital system, is really a challenge — and that’s where it is really the most evident that there is a gap between the pharmacological intervention towards distress and more of a spiritual intervention. Earlier I referenced my first multidimensional bleed-through. At that time, I could have really gone down the wrong path, because if I would have explained that situation to a professional without the understanding of a soul wound, it would have been considered more of a psychotic break. You developed an intriguing way of using Blog Talk Radio. How did you come up with that format and how does it serve your community — or your tribe, as you call it? CT: I came into Blog Talk Radio in about

2008 and I really liked it because it gave me a way for me to take my message to a larger number of people — and I was able to just do that in the comfort of my own home. I had two shows on EFT Radio and I my EFT show on Edge Talk Radio. I realized that within those three shows that were uniquely mine I could present different topics that were pertinent to the work I was doing. It gave me a way to educate people on this modality and to empower them. What I like to do with people is what I call the “Rotor-Rooter” approach. I don’t want to be called for the maintenance. I want to be called when you are really stuck and we need a process to be facilitated. So what I do in my radio shows and my e-books and anything that I offer online for free is to give people as many of the tools as they can work with to identify what the problem is, to take it as far as they can, so that when they do call me and they actually put money down for my services, they have done their homework. Because of the radio shows, and my YouTube videos, by the time someone contacts me he or she is familiar with my work enough that, to be honest, their inner child has already developed a relationship with me. So it takes us a lot less time to complete the work, because they come in

and we’re starting in the middle of the process instead of at the beginning. Blog Talk Radio has served me well and it is a way to give back to my community — to people who either are not inspired to do a one-on-one session or are not in a position to do a one-on-one session. It’s still a way for me to get my work to them. What originally inspired you to want to help others? Does it relate to what you talked about regarding your dad? CT: I think so, yes. It started probably when

I was age 3 within the role I played in my own family. I was what I call “the conduit of feelings” in my family. Very early on I had to learn how to analyze feelings, how to identify feelings in others and how to discharge feelings. I came in pretty clear that I was always going to be in this field and got into it very early. It was just a natural evolution and there was never much question about what I was going to do. The bigger question was how I was going to do it. I started out as a social worker, and I think that was good because I could have gone more into the corporate world and that would have taken me in a completely different area. So my early involvement with social work is what really led me to the heart of my work, and the rest came just one step at a time in my own experience. If you could say one thing to every soul on the planet right now, what would you say to us? CT: This is the most exciting time for us to

be here. There is some ingredient out there that will take you to the next step. Use the resources and continue your soul’s journey. a

BROCCOLI: WE FIGHT CANCER by Ellen Vande Visse Excerpt from Ask Mother Nature: A Conscious Gardener’s Guide I snag my unsuspecting friend who stops by on a cloudy day in mid-July. “Come to the garden with me,” I beckon. “I’d like to check in with the broccoli and see how it’s doing.” “Huh?” queries Cheryl. “Do you mean you want me to help you inspect something?” “I had some problems earlier in my broccoli beds.” I explain. “I have pest and fertilizer challenges. I can see the abovesurface leaves and stems, but I want to know about their overall well-being, and I become like an over-anxious parent….” “And what do you want me to do?” she asks. “I want you to help me talk to them — to ask if they are having any problems.” I see Cheryl’s puzzled expression. “You want ME to help you talk to some plants?” “Yes, it’s easy.” I exude cheer and confidence, hoping to convince myself as well. “I’ll show you as we go along.” Cheryl shrugs and nods. “Okay, I’ll help if I can.” “I call this process tuning in, or a tunein,” I explain. “According to experts at the Findhorn Garden in Scotland, every plant, every rock and every place has a collective consciousness. Some call it an angel or Deva, meaning a Being of Light. So we begin by saying hello and asking this over lighting spirit to communicate with us. “Broccoli Deva,” I venture, “Cheryl and I would like to thank you for being present and holding the energy of these broccoli varieties here. We would like to attune and communicate with you.” “As we proceed,” I say to Cheryl,

“imagine in your mind the feel, smell and appearance of broccoli. Recall the taste of its green florets, raw and cooked. We let our analytical thoughts go silent. This is the time to make note of anything that comes to your mind — pictures, emotions, music, images, impressions, words. Everyone gets information differently and one way is not superior to another. Just trust and report what you receive.” “Trust whatever you get, Ellie, ” I remind myself inwardly. “Let your skepticism go.” “I get a sense of a very sweet personality,” says Cheryl. “I’m feeling a subtle energy shift, too. I think we are connected. Let’s ask how the broccoli is doing.” “I got a sense of ‘Yes, we are doing fine,’” says Cheryl. “Me too,” I add. (“Whew,” I think to myself, “this is working! Together we are getting an answer.”) The next part is strange. I expect to hear about root maggots and soil nutrition. Instead, Cheryl gets words: “Does my personality seem sweet and casual? Ah, don’t be fooled. We broccoli are very strong. We fight cancer when you partake of us. We are very proud of this!” We look at each other in astonishment. (This was not a well-known fact in 1989.) I never know what I am going to learn from a conversation with a green plant. What I do know is that it pays to boldly recruit innocent bystanders. plant consciousness: natural prehension Spirit Leaves

by Janet Michele Red Feather For a brief time in the 1990s, I owned a cantilevered property on a hilltop in Modjeska Canyon, California, named for the Russian actress, Madame Modjeska. A haven of winding roads, this sequestered woodland wound its way eventually down to Pacific Coast Highway and the Pacific Ocean. Surrounded by trees and sky, wildlife and rolling hills, my home was a veritable tree house. A double-stone retaining wall provided a natural planter box. Medicinal herbs I had cultivated there were soon pillaged by a neighbor’s cat — just another manifestation of the wild, undisturbed character of my surroundings. In this sacred setting, I first learned to communicate with plants and trees. The 960 square-foot cabin sported panoramic windows, affording lovely views of trees and sloped land from every angle. The bedroom had one large window. The head of the bed was positioned against that window, behind which twisted and curled the ample limbs of a venerable oak tree. One night, in that twilight between awakeness and dreaming, I found myself in a still, lucid dimension in between states of consciousness. What startled me was a sudden awareness that the branching oak tree I loved so much was now right over me in the room. I was thrilled and a little scared at the same time, as I recognized that the tree had somehow astrally projected through the window. Its energy was benevolent, protective and very present. I kept the experience to myself. Most people hold fixed ideas, filtering the world through labels. They prefer that their environment be understandable, predictable. I could fairly well 20  www.edgemagazine.net

imagine the label they would have for me, had I disclosed that I’d been visited by a rather large tree. The encounter did not seem odd to me; I have never viewed life as hierarchic. I had been brought up with the “top of the food chain” idea, but that notion always bothered me. I felt a connection with all of creation. Once I sat in the kitchen of my publisher’s home in Minnesota. As we were talking, the wind blew gently. Neighboring cottonwoods released into her backyard a soft shower of cotton, gently sailing and streaming through the air at a slant like large snowflakes. In the next moment, the trees were absolutely still. They emanated a kind of prehensiveness, a crystalline intensity. In response, I became acutely aware of the trees. This wordless exchange was their way of communicating. I gave in to it and experienced the different realm of plant consciousness. Since everything is love and light — energy and information — it is not a stretch to accept the concept of communication with plants. One way to receive from plants and trees is to relax our aspect. It’s similar to the way we see pictures surface in 3-D in Magic Eye books. Each picture looks like a flat field — until you relax your gaze. Your focus becomes less intense, and the image begins to come toward you, into the foreground of your vision. It is only our resistance or arrogance that limits our ability to just let go and experience phenomena as they present themselves. For plants and trees, presence is natural. Recently, standing out on my balcony, I felt that the trees had a message to deliver. I was musing about how Minnesotans had become obsessed with the question of when spring would truly arrive. Somehow, I received a clear communication that spring was three weeks away, and I had the definite sense that this information emanated from the trees. In linear, human time, they were indicating the second week in April. As I write this article, only the pussy willows have clearly articulated buds; the rest are insipient. Birds sing sporadically. Some days are hot while others carry a nip in the air. Still, I know from friends in the plant realm that they are bracing themselves, ready to release their green essence and floral aromatherapy into the natural tide of life. All of our scientific predictions can neither control nor irrevocably vanquish what the trees and flowers already know and will generously share — if we will only gentle ourselves enough to listen. a Janet Michele Red Feather, J.D., M.A., has taught literature and composition for 18 years at the university, state, tribal and community college levels. She is currently a tenured English Faculty member at Normandale Community College. Janet enjoys her role as Ceremonial Singer for Native American ceremonies, singing traditional songs in Mandan and Lakota. She made a career shift into teaching after serving nearly eight years as a defense litigator in California. Her life changed significantly after she traveled to North Dakota in 1993 to fast and pray for a way of life. She welcomes correspondence at JanetRedFeather77@gmail.com. Copyright © 2015. And This Is Why I Believe in Faeries by Marcee Murray King In this beautiful area in Tennessee, walking through the woods, I spotted my first-ever yellow violet. I was no stranger to being in the woods, and had spent much of my childhood roaming them in Illinois. In all my wanderings, I had never before seen a yellow violet. My home’s yard was a woodland floor, covered with wildflowers, weeds and a small pond. When I spotted the yellow violet, alone under a tree, I squatted down to look at it, and my first thought was, “I will dig this up the day we leave and put it in my yard at home.” And the violet spoke to me, asking me not to. “Please don’t dig me up! This is my home! If you want yellow violets near you, move where we are, but please leave me here….” I was stunned. I had never had a plant speak to me before, but it was a distinct presence talking in my head. It was responding to my unspoken thought. I walked back to the campsite, told my friend and our children the story. They laughed at me and thought it was funny. Even I had a hard time believing it myself — my experience — until the next evening. Typical of each night we camped here, we had a bonfire before bed with our children. What was different tonight were the lights that appeared. Glowing balls, tiny, silvery, everywhere. When the first few appeared, we didn’t think much of them. As more appeared, I jokingly told the children, “It’s the faeries! See, the violet really did talk to me!” Many, many more appeared, surrounding us at a distance on all sides. They definitely weren’t lightning bugs and behaved unusually. Most of them sat there, moving little. It felt like we were in a stadium, and we were the entertainment. Some of the lights would move over to a different light, then move back, as if saying “Hi.” These were random movements, like you might see if you were watching people in the bleachers at a performance. Except for one group. They came in close, surrounded us, around the campfire and my tent, about five feet off the ground. These ones encircled us, flying ’round and ’round. One flew over the top, joining the other side. What had started as a sweet little pretend story of the faeries that had shown up to share our campfire suddenly felt very real. The children started crying and were scared — not because

a

anything bad had happened, but because it was so out of their realm of normal existence. It was foreign to all of us. I, honestly, just wanted to disappear myself. Our tent was by the fire, inside this ring of faeries. My friend and her children would have to walk out, through the ring and a bit further to get to their tent. We discussed this, trying not to sound afraid and to reassure the children. I was so glad I was not the one having to walk through the circle. Jeannie and her girls got up, and walked towards the circle. It parted for them, allowing them through. We all went to bed, shaken, but grateful for the experience. About two years later, we ended up buying a falling-down home on five acres of totally unkempt land in southwestern Wisconsin. My husband and I bought the land on a good feeling — a gut instinct —that this is where we needed to live, to raise our children. We hadn’t walked it. The closing was on May Day. The children and I went with some other friends to walk the land for the first time, and as we got to the bottom of the hill, under the trees, I glanced down and there was a yellow violet! The first I had seen since the one in Tennessee. “Oh my God! A yellow violet!” I shrieked to my friends there, none who knew my story. “Look!” Christiane said, pointing around the woodland floor. It was covered, everywhere, with yellow violets. I had done what the flower faerie had said: I had moved to where the yellow violets lived. I knew that we had truly found our home. a Marcee Murray King, M.A., RYT-200, is a renaissance woman with many superhero powers…though these often can be her kryptonite, as well. Part natural healer, farmer, artist, yogini, editor and writer for The Tattooed Buddha — and often a teacher — she finds a way to weave these threads of her life together (almost) seamlessly. She spends most of her days trying to figure out how to balance on her own two feet without toppling over. When she isn’t trying to save the world — or at least just make it a better place for everyone — she hides away on her lovely 25 acres in Southwest Wisconsin. Copyright © 2015. All Rights Reserved.

Seeding the Garden of Intuition The similarities between humans and plants are that both are living organisms, both need things to keep them living, both produce substances that keep the other living, both are multi-cell organisms, both reproduce through sexual means by fertilization, both breathe, and both need water to survive. by Cheryl Hiltibran & Jeffry Jeanetta-Wark When Cheryl and her husband Gene moved into a new house, they purchased a thriving set of ficus trees with braided trunks and no instructions. Gene insisted on placing them near the front door; Cheryl apprehensively agreed. Soon the trees began dropping leaves daily — by the dozens. Cheryl’s concern rose daily, finally compelling her to “go into conversation” with the ficus to find out how she could restore their ability to thrive. She was told they needed more consistent watering, more light and more plants close by; they were lonely after having come from a highly populated greenhouse with lots of plant friends to this quiet place with only occasional visitors. At the time, Cheryl did not realize she was intuitively connecting to the trees. After years of developing various intuitive styles, she learned that communicating with plants, animals and other things in our environment is part of the Inter-relational Intuition Style, one of the Eight Intuition Styles that we assist people in mastering. For the ficus to regain their health, Cheryl made an agreement with them: she put a lamp with a timer near them, brought additional plants into the area, and began watering them regularly. With these changes, the trees began to flourish once again. A few years later, Cheryl told this story to a friend with an academic background in biology, who confirmed that what she learned from the trees was aligned with what was scientifically known about their environmental needs. From the moment of our first breath until our last, humans are interdependent with the plant kingdom. We exhale carbon dioxide, which plants need for their sustenance. In exchange for CO2, plants produce oxygen, providing us with what we need to live. Science is now discovering that humans are, in fact, more similar to plants than anyone had ever previously imagined. For example, we have genomes, the complete set of genetic information that living things pass on to the next generation. The human genome is similar to that of other 22  www.edgemagazine.net

animals — and also to plants. Both human and plant genomes contain around 25,000 genes. Humans have an ancient and deeply personal (both conscious and unconscious) relationship with plants and the Earth. Because you can read this, you are a homo sapien. The word “Homo” is linked to the word “humus,” meaning “Earth,” related to the idea that we are “Earthly beings” versus the idea that we are Gods and Goddesses of the Celestial realms. From the indigenous perspective, Earth is the Great Mother from which we emerge. Our relationship with Earth — and everything she sprouts — is organically resonant, enduring and deeply intertwined. Our capacity to consciously interrelate with plants seems heightened after winter’s dormancy. The transition into spring ushers the great thaw as life forces emerge, and Earth and her many expressions — plants, animals and humans — renew their interconnectedness. People with a “green thumb” seem to have a natural affinity and skills in Interrelational Intuition. They are able to sense and understand plants, their needs and gifts, and their seasonal growth cycles. For example, Cheryl is constantly amazed that carrots with their tops intact, even in the refrigerator, begin to sprout as spring arrives. During seasonal transitions, be especially mindful that our interdependence with plants fosters mutual thrivability. For example, we respect that we should not take all the sap from the maple trees, though the syrup replenishes our much needed sugar reserves depleted over winter. Indigenous peoples know it is important to gather, yet leave enough sap so that both trees and humans can thrive. When we bring this type of conscious connecting, communicating and interrelating to the Earth, this is using “Inter relational Intuition,” the eighth Intuitive Style. Inter-relational Intuition is awareness,

Jeffry Jeanetta-Wark

understanding and engaging anything. The cabbage flower (above) was sitting at the doorstep of Jeffry’s brother’s house in Seattle. Jeffry saw it and felt compelled to photograph it because of its beauty and expressive nature. This plant said, “I am the cyclical nature of our growing levels of consciousness. All aspects of life bring us closer and closer to the most important lessons of life…and the Universe.” Whether we are conscious of it or not, the connection between plants and humans is intimate, ancient and deep. Everyone is aware of this relationship on varying levels. One such level is the Interrelational Intuition level, which we also know can be developed. a Cheryl Hiltibran and Jeffry Jeanetta-Wark teach a 5-part series entitled “Optimal Intuition: Exploring, Experiencing and Developing your Intuitive Tools,” helping attendees to heighten their intuitive abilities in all eight of the Intutive Styles. For further information, contact Cheryl at 952.486.1298 or email cheryl@goinggenius.com. Cheryl Hiltibran, M.Ed. works as a Life Coach and Core Energy Healer. THE GREEN MAN’S GUIDE TO LIFE by Elaine Mansfield Eight days after my husband’s death, I had my first dream as a widow. I walk up a wooden staircase and see a giant man sitting naked in a claw-foot porcelain bathtub with water up to his waist. His bronze hair looks like foliage. Water droplets cover his pale jade body. “ What’s with your skin?” I ask. “It lasts one year,” he answers. He is the Green Man. I will live in his house for a year. When I woke up, a surprising whisper of hope softened my sorrow. I recalled statues of a man’s face surrounded by foliage on garden walls and vaguely remembered the Green Man was a mythological god of vegetative growth and rebirth. I trusted he would help me survive the raw intensity of grief, although I had no idea how. A friend loaned me William Anderson’s book, Green Man: The Archetype of our Oneness with the Earth. The cover showed a sculpted male face from a 13th century village church in England. His leafy hair reminded me of my dream man. I poured over images and detailed information about a vegetative god who symbolized the cycle of life and the birth of spring in pre-Christian Northern Europe. Artisans had carved and painted his face in decorative details in Christian cathedrals, secretly bringing the old pagan image into the new order. He emerged from swirls of leaves. Vines or branches grew out of his mouth or curled around his ears. Sometimes he appeared with the Virgin Mary or Mother Earth. My dream came in mid June, a time of bursting color on my land. After the dream, my enthusiasm for nature and the world of plants — things I’d always loved — grew stronger. I balanced my inner gloom by focusing on uncurling leaves, wildflower buds and growing shoots of pines. The plants in my fields and forest lived lavishly despite mortality — and because of mortality. “Live now,” they said. “You will find your way into life.” When I couldn’t stand the deep ache of sorrow,

I went outside. I noticed the height and growing tips of hundreds of trees my husband and I had planted and found wildflowers in the woods where we’d once removed piles of tires and rusted cars. I walked the trails we had opened along the streams and smelled the pungent scent of invasive garlic mustard as I pulled it from the forest floor. I felt life’s push and the shortness of the season that would soon be followed by death, then waiting, then rebirth and another spring. Rebirth? My husband’s? Mine? I didn’t try to unravel my knotted views of reincarnation. Instead, I witnessed the lives of plants and their friends, the birds and butterflies. They were enough. I walked through fields of purple lupines that June and purple asters in September. The maples reddened and the oaks turned gold. I was part of the ever-changing earth. That winter, I followed animal tracks on my snowshoes and found jade moss hidden under snow. I walked to the red oak where my sons and I had built a cairn in my husband’s memory and left offerings of acorns, pine cones and tears. I watched lengthening days and learned from Nature’s patience. The Green Man’s hand was everywhere. The next spring, yellow trout lilies bloomed as they always had. Bluebirds returned to claim their nesting boxes. Green shoots of grass pushed through overnight. I inhaled the musty earth and listened to bird call in the canopy. I visited lupines in the fields, violets in the forest, and returned home to tend my vegetable garden. The Green Man did not evict me after one year. He let me stay to walk the trails and learn from flowers and trees. The dream was a gift that guided me back to Life. Fresh possibility followed bitter winter. My husband was gone, but the plants cycled on and I lived with them, grounded and guided by the Green Man and his verdant earth. a Elaine Mansfield is a writer and spiritual practitioner. Since her husband’s death in 2008, she has focused on end-of-life, bereavement and hospice work. Her book, Leaning into Love: A Spiritual Journey through Grief was published by Larson Publications in 2014). Her TEDx talk is called “Good Grief! Words of Wisdom by Nadine Penny Wake up to your inner wisdom this May by attending to your dreams! Dreams are a source of inspiration that can support your current life journey. They help expose the challenges you face, acknowledge the steps you should take (but haven’t) and celebrate the right turns you’ve made. Take note of friends or celebrities who show up in dreams, as they’re often archetypes for your current behavior. Notice the colors in dreams, which pertain to the chakra system and clarify which life areas require work. And observe any vehicles that appear, which tell whether you are driving forward in life or not. Finally, log your dreams and learn from them, and watch your real dreams come true! a Nadine Penny attained her M.A. from the University of Denver in Counseling Psychology.
