Letters

to the editor Thanks for your thoughtful and thoughtprovoking essay, “Standing My Ground” (August 2013). Your circumstance would, in itself, be disconcerting and upsetting, and, coupled with the Zimmerman case, certainly raises lots of questions for us all. — Lisa Wersal, Vadnais Heights, MN Thank you for the short story. It never occurred to me to pray for a young thief. It seemed so clear that this would be the right move to help a soul in distress. Our young people are affected by our economic depression. Parents both must work full-time, and it leaves our younger generation to be on their own. Addiction has become an acceptable diagnosis for many American families. Absent guidance for teens, at a turning point in their life cycle, leaves many working families open to the disease. I know how to pray for intervention, or refer families to programs that can provide the treatment necessary to combat the disease. Some say it takes a village to raise a child. I am starting to come to this understanding as truth. When we grew up, parents gave their children permission for local playing, and then they were expected to come home and clean up for supper. After supper, books were spread across the dinner table and children completed their homework. In our society today, too many children are alone and have to make unguided choices on their own. This has led me to believe that I must now pray for all American families — to ask my Higher Powers for enlightenment, and a spiritual intervention. We all need to gather in prayer, and have faith that things will change for the better. Pray that children are no longer left on their own. Thank you for your article. You have helped to change my thinking, from depression to hope. — Lynn Cormier, Staten Island, NY a

Watching the wheels From the Editor by Tim Miejan

some people find inner peace while running long distances, as their consciousness disengages with the so-called real world and enters a state of just being. I have always found that on the seat of a bicycle. Growing up, I enjoyed riding my bike — a souped-up, blue Schwinn Stingray with a shock absorber on the front, a slick tire on the back and an Iron Cross fashioned on the top of a tall sissy bar. The bike was a proud possession, given to me by my uncle Ron. As a teen, my uncle used to ride wheelies on that bike down the street, while his older brother, my dad, did the same on motorcycles. I, on the other hand, didn’t seem to inherit their risk-taking bravado. I’ve always preferred to ride for a sense of discovery, seeing what was around the next corner or blocks away where I’d never been. As embarrassing as it now sounds, one of my favorite leisure activities as a kid was combining two of my joys — biking and reading. I’d be engrossed in a Hardy Boys mystery, and then I’d hop on my bike and ride around a bit, holding the book in one hand and steering with the other. At some point, I’d stop along the side of the street, put my foot on the curb and crack the book open and then read another few pages before closing it. Then I’d ride around some more, read some more and repeat that for longer than I care to admit. One day I was doing just that when I stopped my bike not far from a parked car. It was a sunny day with few clouds in the sky. A bee flew by and caught me by surprise. Suddenly, I was transported somewhere else. I began to ponder how fast it took for my eyes to see the bee, send the information to my brain and then signal my body to respond by swatting it away. At that moment I was dumbfounded by the incredible speed in which our body must process information. I cannot tell you why I still remember that moment like it just happened, but I’ve never forgotten it.

Thinking about it now, I realize that I’ve always been able to disconnect my thinking while riding around, just as most of us often do when driving for long stretches without being conscious of doing so. Meditation — on wheels. Today, on a bike ride with my wife through the nearby park, I found myself watching the wheels of her bike while following behind. The spokes became a hypnotic blur. No, I didn’t fall, but I later wondered how often — out of the 86,400 seconds each day — we take leave of our senses while our consciousness does other business of which we are not even aware. It is suggested that when we are born, a part of our soul remains on the “Other Side,” and when we die our self becomes whole again. If so, does our consciousness maintain two existences — here and there — and if so, is our consciousness constantly flipping back and forth between the two planes of existence? Such a possibility just reaffirms my belief that each of us is a much greater spiritual being than our waking consciousness can grok. So don’t you ever sell yourself short, even when things look bleak and you’re finding it hard to manage life’s inherent challenges. Rest assured, you are incredibly proficient at more than you can imagine. Hang in there. a Tim Miejan is editor and co-publisher of The Edge. Contact him at editor@edgemagazine.net. Copyright © 2013. September 20-22 Dr. Julia Assante Mystic and scholar Julia Assante, PhD., will present “Open Your Inner Senses,” a three-day workshop on Sept. 20-22, at Wind Over Fire Healing Arts Center in Rochester, MN. Dr. Assante is a highly gifted professional intuitive with extensive experience with the afterlife. She teaches workshops in the United States and Europe on healing arts, aura reading, after-death communication, remembering the future, recalling past lives, and conscious death. The “Open Your Inner Senses” workshop is designed to open the in-born inner senses, which are the foundations of your physical senses. They include empathy, telepathy, altered space-time perception, and the drive for selffulfillment. Using the inner senses leads to a dramatic increase in creativity, problem solving, self-trust, perception and spiritual awareness. The techniques taught in this workshop will enable caregivers to see into the physical body of their patients, to access their emotional states and needs, and to perceive phenomena occurring around the dying before, during and after death. Participants will awaken their inner sense of sight through training in remote viewing and aura reading, the inner sense of touch through charging the electromagnetic fields, and the inner sense of empathy. Dr. Assante has been a practicing past-life therapist since 1984 and is an ordained minister of The New Seminary. She has worked in tandem with shamans, healers, and gurus from many non-Western traditions. As a scholar, Dr. Assante is a specialist of the ancient Near East, with comprehensive knowledge of spiritual, religious and magical practices beginning with the dawn of writing in Egypt and Mesopotamia. She has taught at Columbia, Bryn Mawr, and the University of Münster (Germany), published in many academic journals and lectured worldwide. Dr. Assante’s book, The Last Frontier: Exploring the Afterlife and Transforming Our Fear of Death, recently won the Nautilus Gold Award 2013 in the category of death, dying and grief. Publisher’s Weekly hailed it as “the most important book on the enigma of death since the groundbreaking work of Elizabeth Kubler-Ross.” Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. For

September 27-28 DENNIS KING Dennis King, descendant of a long lineage of Native American healers and carrier of the Bear Medicine, will visit the Wind Over Fire Healing Arts Center in Rochester, MN, on September 27-28. On September 27, participants will experience a powerful group healing session with King, feeling and hearing the bear as true healing powers surround them. Additionally, Mr. King will be available for private sessions on September 28. In the Native American worldview, medicine is holistic in nature and spirit is considered an inseparable element of healing. Native Americans believe we are all synergistically part of a whole that is greater than the sum of the parts. Many people are embracing a holistic consciousness and in their awakening, and they are calling upon native healers. Scientific and religious communities are beginning to see the advantages of spiritual healing. Many people feel that energy, spiritual or traditional healing methods bring them closer to the Creator and aid in their healing. Space for this event is limited. Reserve your seat and/ or book a private session at 507.281.6649 or visit the Wind Over Fire Healing Arts Center at www.windoverfire.com.

September 27-29 • Max the Crystal Skull In a rare Midwest appearance, Max the Crystal Skull will return to the Twin Cities during the last weekend in September. Max is one of only two crystal skulls still believed to be ancient. Max is reportedly 36,000 years old. Before the lama died, he gave Max to Jo Ann Parks, whom he had befriended after treating her daughter. Many people who have had contact with Max have received remarkable advice and healings. On Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m., Jo Ann Parks will give a public presentation at the Hilton Garden Inn, 6350 Vinewood Lane, Maple Grove. Mrs. Parks, an entertaining Texas lady in her own right, will discuss crystal skulls and share how she received Max and kept him in a closet until he started hollering at her. The cost for the presentation is $25, cash or check. Attendees will have an opportunity to briefly touch Max at the end of the evening. Limited time for private meditations with Max is available from September 27-29. Register for private time with Max by contacting Dale or Sheryl Fisher at 763.420.9017.

 Fall Events continued from page 8  Thursday, Oct. 3 from 7-9 p.m. — Practical Mysticism: The Way of the Future — For centuries, mysticism has been a major force in our quest to experience God and the spiritual dimension of life. Our yearning to find relationship with the Divine is ancient, and has been an instinctual impulse within us since the dawning hour of humankind. Though mysticism has been the emphasis of the past, it is gradually evolving into a new and more enlightened approach to God and our understanding of spiritual living. This new approach has been called Practical Mysticism. To be a Practical Mystic, an individual must be inwardly oriented toward the soul, while at the same time focused on practical action in the outer world. In this presentation, the nature and application of Practical Mysticism will be presented. Methods for blending love and mind will be discussed, as well as a more enlightened understanding of spiritual service. Suggested Donation: $10  Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Shine Forth: The Soul and Its Creative Destiny — The destiny of the soul is to creatively express its wisdom and love as an act of service to humanity. When done well, an individual’s influence in the world is uplifting and profound. In this presentation, we will examine the nature of the soul as it evolves its capacity to become magically creative. Methods to inwardly recognize the soul will be highlighted. In addition, the ancient formulas used by the soul to influence the mind and the emotions will be discussed. With this understanding, an individual will be better able to support his/her soul as it seeks to shine forth its beauty and creative intention in service to human betterment. This presentation is directly related to William’s published book of the same title. Fee: $110 ($100 for Spirit United members).  Sunday, Oct. 6 from 1-4:30 p.m. — The Soul of Humanity Evolves Through World Crisis — Whether we consider the events in the Middle East, the devastating tsunami in Japan, or widespread hunger and poverty

10

www.edgemagazine.net

throughout the world, humanity is facing a global crisis of unparalleled proportions. Yet, when such events are examined from a spiritual perspective, it becomes increasingly clear that we are witnessing the prelude to a great initiatory opportunity facing humanity as a whole. Indeed, it is a period when the Soul of Humanity is seeking to shape outer events in support of an emerging era of human betterment and prosperity. In this presentation, the nature of conflict and crisis will be examined (individually and collectively), and how it relates to the Soul of Humanity and its evolution. Fee: $35 ($30 for Spirit United members) For more information or to schedule a private astrological consultation, contact Mary Tatone at 425.444.0626 or marytatone@comcast.net — or contact Ginny Cone at 651.291.1065. October 4-6 • Pleiadian Seminar with Christine Day The public is invited to take part in an awakening experience, “Galactic Codes for Your Awakening,” a three-day Pleiadian Seminar led by Pleiadian ambassador Christine Day on October 4-6 in Minneapolis.   Participants will have a direct experience of aligning to their own light energy, working within a sacred dimensional setting created by the Pleiadians. The Pleiadians specialize in setting up an energetic dimensional womb, allowing participants to rebirth themselves. This dimensional womb allows the angels, light beings and masters to support all involved during their birthing process. During this awakening processes, participants will be working directly with the Pleiadian and Lemurian energies within the crystal vortex. Each individual

works at their own level in a safe, supportive setting. For the first time, the galactic forces provide a series of sacred vehicles in which participants can energetically align. Through these energetic vehicles, those at the workshop will have access into dimensional portal settings that have not been available previously. Many veils will lift, enabling those who take part to travel within the energy of these “sacred vehicles” recollecting sacred aspects of Self. Participants also will work in alignment with the expanded consciousness of the crop circles, align to the Sacred Webbing and will experience a series of powerful initiations and initiate back into Sacred Trust information that is needed now in life. For more information, contact Barbara Ramstad at 612.729.0229, email barbararamstad@att.net or register at www.christinedayonline.com.

October 11 & 12 William Henry Author, investigative mythologist and host of “Revelations” radio, William Henry is a guide into the transformative power of art and symbols of human ascension. He will be present “The Path of Souls: Journey to Ascension” as a lecture from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, and as a full-day workshop from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Spirit United Church, 3204 Como Ave. SE, Minneapolis. “The Path of Souls: Journey to Ascension” is a soul empowerment workshop. William Henry explains that “New Age” ascension material tends to “candy coat” what ascension is really about. This presentation will bring out the core issues and help the participant to REALLY understand the importance of focusing on developing our light body or “future self.” This workshop will help you see the light body with clarity so that you can connect with its energy.

Included in the workshop will be a discussion, among many things, of: The Rainbow Body: Perfecting the Soul’s Vibration; Maps of the Path of Souls in sacred art; The 5 decisions every successful soul must make; The Essenes and the Transformation into Angels/Beings of Light; Stargate Metaphysics: “The Secret of the Ancient Avatars”; Our Body as the Throne of God: Merkaba Mystics knew the Path of Souls; The Stargate Secrets of Jesus and Mary Magdalene; and The New Human. Henry has been documenting humanity’s awakening to its spiritual magnificence for more than 20 years. Inspired by the great accomplishments of antiquity, he brings the evidence of our divinity. By bringing to life the stories of ascension through art, he teaches the secrets of soul transfiguration or metamorphosis and connects people to one another across cultures, time and space. Learn more about William Henry at www.williamhenry.net. The events cost $30 for the Friday lecture, $175 for the Saturday workshop,, $195 by September 1 for both lecture and workshop and $225 for lecture and workshop after September 1. To register, contact Anita Collodoro at 952.221.6372 or email anitacoll@yahoo.com.

GET REAL by Suzanne Giesemann I began my spiritual journey after the death of my step-daughter, Susan. Since then, my view of life and my understanding of reality have expanded far beyond that which I held for the majority of my life. I used to hope this life wasn’t all there is. I used to believe there was more than meets the eye and that all we see is organized and coordinated by a loving Creator. The thing is, I don’t believe that anymore. I know it’s true. Belief leaves room for doubt; knowing comes from personal experience. That personal experience has come from giving more than 550 private readings as a medium, sharing evidential details from those who have passed with their loved ones who sit across from me. That personal experience has also come from sharing spiritual insights from another dimension in more than 75 group sessions. That unshakeable confidence that this life is not all there is comes from the personal experience of other worlds in my daily meditation. Those experiences have changed me irreversibly, and that’s all right with me. I have no desire to go back to the emotional roller coaster ride I used to experience. I’ll take balance over turmoil any day. Those experiences have helped me to see the essence of spirit in everyone I meet, and I’ll take love over fear and judgment as well. These changes haven’t been without adjustment. The other day I set the newspaper aside after reading a story steeped in negativity. I turned to my husband and admitted that it’s not easy walking in two worlds at once. When you regularly experience realms where love is felt and expressed as the principle emotion, it’s sometimes a challenge to soldier on in this one. It’s easy to get dragged down by violence on TV, in movies, and in the news. It’s easy to get discouraged with folks who haven’t yet realized we are all spirit-beings here and now. So I’ve made a deliberate choice to see only goodness. Does that make me a Pollyanna? Yes it does. Call me naïve, but I like feeling happy and loving no matter what. A good friend recently shared similar loving views of “Why can’t we all just get guides, family and friends in spirit. Audiences around the country are spellbound when they are present to experience James selecting people from the audience to participate in the calling of spirits. For the first time, Van Praagh will present a three-day, post-expo workshop — “Awakening Your Mind to Mental & Physical Mediumship” — on November 4-6 at a convenient location. The workshop will expand awareness and bring attendees in direct connection to the Divine force. As a conduit to the Spirit world, this workshop is dedicated to

along?” with her cousin. The guy wrote back to my fellow Pollyanna and told her to “Get real.” To him, reality is a harsh, dog-eat-dog world where it’s every man for himself. The question is: What is real? As I continue to experience first-hand, there’s more than one reality. Perception is reality. If you perceive this world as dangerous, evil and filled with hate, then that will be your reality. If you focus on the positive, that will be your experience. Nobody ever said this life is easy. It’s hard to stay positive and balanced when folks around you aren’t. It’s hard to see the bright side when journalists sell newspapers by ignoring good news, politicians win votes by slinging mud, and Hollywood continues to blow things up just for fun. Being peaceful and loving is a choice in this realm of duality. When you make the choice to focus your perception on being the expression of love, your whole reality shifts. So go ahead. Get real! But first decide. What version of “real” will you choose? a Suzanne Giesemann will be at Lake Harriet Spiritual Community to present a viewing of the documentary “Messages of Hope,” a story of transformation and the afterlife, from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. Suzanne also will present the workshop “Making the Connection: Learning to Attune to Higher Consciousness” from 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Advance tickets to the film showing and workshop are available by clicking on “events” at www. LoveAtTheCenter.com or call 888.692.0781, ext. 1. Suzanne Giesemann, acclaimed author of 9 books, inspirational speaker and evidential medium captivates audiences as she brings hope, healing, and comfort through her work. The soul of humanity emerges by William Meader When looking at the current state of the world, it may seem that humanity is on a downward slope heading for disaster. Whether we consider the escalating crisis occurring in the Middle East, widespread famine in Africa or the destruction of the Brazilian rainforest, humanity seems to be at the precipice of global crisis. How we move through this challenging period in history will, in large measure, determine the future for generations to come. We have entered into a stage of human evolution (as a species) where our fate will be determined, either in support of a promising future, or down the road to our eventual demise. Such is the fate of the times. Yet, it must be remembered that crisis is a prelude to all expansions of consciousness. This is true whether considering the consciousness of a human being, or that of humanity as a whole. At this time in history, the Soul of Humanity is emerging, and it does so through the challenge of world crisis.

A living entity To begin our discussion it must first be stated that, esoterically, humanity is considered a living entity in its own right. To some, this may be a strange idea. However, the singularity of humanity has been a notion held by many theologies and philosophies throughout history. Yet, what do we really mean by this expression? Usually it is in reference to the commonality of people lying beyond their racial and cultural differences. This is, of course, true. Whether considering people in primitive or advanced cultures, the commonness of being human is abundantly apparent. We all have the same basic needs and yearnings in life. In itself, this realization can bring us closer.

14

www.edgemagazine.net

However, humanity’s oneness is far deeper than this. Esoterically considered, humanity is viewed as a single life expression. It is not simply a collection of six billion human beings, but is a being in and of itself. It too has a soul and a personality — a higher and lower consciousness. As individuals, we are not separate from the beingness of humanity, but are cells of livingness within it. To walk the spiritual path is to transform the lower-self (personality) so that it becomes a cooperative servant on behalf of the higher-self (soul). As anyone treading the path well knows, the transformation of the personality can be a difficult task. It requires that we face many shadowy issues residing within each of us. Tendencies such as greed, pride, fear and selfish motives are just a few of the many shadow elements that limit the soul from full expression in the outer world. Sometimes called the Dweller on the Threshold, the shadow holds us back from manifesting our spiritual potential. Indeed, the spiritual journey is governed by the need to purify oneself so that the soul is no longer obstructed by any taints within the personality. When this is fully achieved, enlightenment is a sure reward. The transformation of the Dweller on the Threshold is an inescapable requirement when individually walking the path. This principle is likewise true when we consider the transformation of humanity’s consciousness. Humanity has a soul, and it also has a dweller residing within its personality. As a species, these shadowy features (within our collective consciousness) hold us back from our deeper potential. Indeed, humanity’s Dweller on the Threshold represents the greatest obstacle to our collective survival. At this time in history, humanity’s dweller is revealing itself in a variety of ways. One

need only look at world events to witness its ugly head rising. For example, it is evident in the behavior of various governments as they wield power in support of national interests, often at the expense of international betterment. We see it in the rise of fundamentalism and orthodoxy (religious and social), as it sounds its separative and elitist note. Such are clear indications of humanity’s shadow, for the dweller is always governed by a separative stance. Humanity’s dweller is also seen in our relationship to the environment and our tendency to exploit it rather than preserve it. The dweller is shamelessly exposed within our economic policies, as well. This is indicated in our insatiable desire for economic expansion, while the wiser principle of sustainability is woefully overlooked. Dweller on the Threshold These are just a few of the many examples of humanity’s Dweller on the Threshold. As we move further into the 21st century, these shadow elements are becoming increasingly visible to us. Ironically, this is the hope of the future, for the dweller can only be transformed when it is uncovered by the light of day. As earlier stated, crisis is a precondition to spiritual transformation. This is true whether considering an individual striving to live according to his/her higher nature (soul), or humanity as it seeks to do the same. Both face the challenge of transforming the separative tendencies of consciousness so as to bring more of its soulful wisdom into outer expression. Most of the time, the shadow is hidden from view. It lurks behind the scenes and achieves its selfish objectives without calling attention to itself. However, as crisis nears, the dweller begins to rise and be seen — a fact that is

becoming increasingly apparent today. More than ever, we see humanity’s shadow rising in human affairs, and all countries and theologies contribute to its expression. We witness it in shortsighted governmental agendas, religious fanaticism and the growing gulf between the wealthy and the poor. These are forces that promote separateness, and all are manifestations of humanity’s shadowy dweller. Yet, as stressful as these things appear, they are not an indication that human civilization is coming to an end. Rather, they point to the fact that humanity has reached a door of transformational opportunity. To clearly see the shadow of humanity is evidence of our readiness to deal with it. In this regard, the shadow is a signpost pointing to the necessity of change, and is therefore a welcome visitor. The Soul of Humanity is poised to shine forth with greater radiance than at any time in history. As a living whole, humanity is on the brink of an opportunity to be radically transformed. Simultaneous to the rise of our collective dweller, the Soul of Humanity is also emerging. This is evident in the many progressive and humanitarian initiatives that have appeared in the last few decades. For example: there is more humanitarian aid directed to third-world countries than at any time in the past; within the world of economics there is a growing movement toward socially responsible business practices; and the ecumenical movement in religions cycles, as well as the emergence and gradual maturation of the United Nations, all point to the Soul of Humanity and its growing influence in global affairs. There are many additional indicators, as well. As the Soul of Humanity continues to appear, we shall see the rise of social movements that support greater unity among nations, religions and cultures. Indeed, our collective soul is slowly shaping human perception so that we increasingly recognize our fundamental oneness. And, it is from this realization that we must eventually base all of our actions — individually and collectively. This is the spiritual destiny of humanity. The Global Stage The Dweller on the Threshold and the Soul of Humanity are appearing on the global stage at the same time. At first this may seem strange and unlikely. Yet, psychologically it is quite predictable. It is really no different than what occurs to an individual when s/he is faced with a spiritual crisis. There are times when our higher potential (consciousness of the soul) is inwardly recognized. As this realization grows, we simultaneously become aware of various personality (ego) tendencies that seem to prevent this potential from its full expression. In short, the more we see the light of the soul, the more we become aware of the shadow and its power to hold us back. Hence, greater light and greater darkness appear at the same time. Indeed, the light of the soul is what causes the shadow to be known. It may be asked, what can individuals do to lend support to the Soul of Humanity, as

it seeks to transform its dweller? There are actually several methods that can help. The most important is to live and work with a vision of unity, and use this vision as a guide to all action. Our collective soul is a force that unites. When an individual supports the unity of culture, religion, business, education and the arts, s/he is acting on behalf of humanity’s higher nature — its soul. It is a unity that emerges, not through conformity, but through the honoring of human diversity. To support the Soul of Humanity requires that we live and express our own higher consciousness (individual soul) with greater love and wisdom. In truth, the individual soul is merely a cell within the Soul of Humanity. And, to live according to one’s higher consciousness is to be in alignment with this greater soul. In this discussion, we have seen that crisis is an inevitable prelude to evolutionary progress. Crisis indicates that the soul and the dweller are standing face-to-face, and a choice must be made. As our collective soul emerges, the hidden forces of opposition simultaneously rise in defiance. It is in the physics of consciousness that this must be so. The Soul of Humanity is seeking to infuse itself into the human condition. Its radiation has the power to create greater unity among nations, cultures and religions, as well as our relationship to the natural environment. Crisis of Perception In truth, the challenge we face is a crisis of perception. It is a choice between perceiving the future with a commitment to greater unity and understanding, or to fall back on the perceptual models of the past with their emphasis on separative achievement at the expense of the larger whole. As of now, our decision to live according to the Soul of Humanity has not yet been made. Nonetheless, the larger trend of evolution suggests that eventually we shall. It is only a question of time. The crisis we see in the world is a blessing in disguise. We are seeing humanity’s dweller more clearly than ever before, and it is from this vision that right choice can be made. The Dweller on the Threshold is the gatekeeper to the spiritual realm. It stands at the threshold to greater light and love. As a species, it is we who must find the key that will transform the dweller. By so doing, humanity will pass beyond it and enter into the dawn of a golden age. This is the promise of the future, though it must clearly be earned. a William Meader will appear at Spirit United Church for public talks and workshops from October 3-6. September horoscope

Slow down, integrate the change Star Wisdom by DK Brainard

September gives us a chance to slow down a bit and mentally process some of the intense change we’ve all been going through this year. Aries (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)…Set boundaries around work and duties this month, because you need to allow yourself to have fun. Developing discipline (a better schedule or daily routine) will enable you to take care of the important details while leaving time for what feeds your spirit now: adventure, art, romance and exploration. Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)…The emphasis is on your creativity this month. Getting focused on the details of what you love is powerful medicine. But what good is all that work if no one knows about it? Jupiter in your house of communications encourages you to spread the word about what you’re doing. A small advertising campaign started now could pay off big down the line. Gemini (May 21-June 20)…The connection between your life’s work and your family history are highlighted this month. Ask yourself: Which belief systems and behavior patterns you inherited from your parents are limiting your freedom to be who you want to be in the world? Your creativity is off the charts — use it to create more freedom for yourself. Cancer (June 21-July 22)…This is a good month to make like the government and spy on your communications. Eavesdrop on your conversations, reread your emails, and listen to your thoughts. You are about to learn something about your mind and your thought patterns that can make you a much luckier and more expansive person. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)…You’ve got a ton of drive and at least a dash of daring with Mars in your sign all month long. You seem to be focused on money and how to make more of it, but remember that

16

www.edgemagazine.net

what the world really wants from you is…you. How can you become more fully yourself this month? The less you hold back, the more life can give you in return.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)…The New Moon in your sign on the 5th offers you the chance to remake yourself in alignment with your highest vision. With lucky Jupiter in your 11th House of dreams and ideals, allow yourself to see how and where you’ve played it safe rather than going for what you really want. Then dare yourself to dream a little bigger. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)…You are the epitome of cool this month. With your ruling planet Venus in your sign through the 11th and lucky Jupiter at the top of your chart, you seem to have what everyone wants. Roll with this if you’re feeling it. And if not, ask yourself why it’s so hard to accept your own awesomeness. The answer could be very healing. Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)…The New Moon on the 5th gives you insight into what you don’t want in your life anymore. This is important information that will lead you to the life you do want. Speaking of which, your ruling planet Mars is in your 10th House of career all month long, pushing you to work hard on your dream and expand at least one vital aspect of your public self. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)…Use the New Moon in your career house on the 5th to check in and make sure you’re climbing the right ladder. Financial (and emotional) support is available to take the next step in your career progression. To benefit fully, you need to be honest with yourself about what you really want out of life and get yourself heading in that direction. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)…This looks like a strong month for both career and relationships. Someone wants to collaborate with you in a very helpful way, someone who can handle your personal power and intensity and hold space for you to

expand and grow. Your intuition is a powerful ally, so make time each day to check in with your Higher Self.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)…You’re tired of not knowing about a relationship this month, and nothing is going to stop you from getting what you want. Or at least getting some sanity restoring clarity. Go on! You deserve to know where things stand. While you’re at it, why not explore those two parts inside you that can’t agree on relationship issues. Once you can get them talking, then things will really change. Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)…Your focus is on one or two key relationships this month. People tend to think of you as flexible and/or wishy-washy, but you might surprise them by laying down some strong ground rules. You are realizing that your creative, joyful side can’t flourish when you’re always on call, tending to the lost puppies of the zodiac. Remember that if you don’t respect your boundaries, they won’t either. a Listen to “Edge Astrology with D.K. Dimensional Shift by Craig W. Steele

If I could switch the world to Pause and thereby mute the howling frenzy of its engine, freeze the rushing motion till there was nothing but the measured rush of my breathing, and muffled crush of my heart, I would float below the birds, their watchful eyes turned unseeing spheres, and caress the feathered contrails of their flights, crisscrossing through the lake of sky, from bodies strewn like random ink blots on an azure sheet of paper embossed with zinc-white clouds. I would take a leisurely eternity to study a single pinion from the quilted covers lifting high their fragile, hollow frames. I’d place it in your hand and whisper its entire story while you non-existed in that void of quantum chaos spanning moments. And when I reset the world to Play, you’d spy it and wonder why you held a feather and why, suddenly, you yearned to fly. a Craig W. Steele resides with his family in the countryside of northwestern Pennsylvania, not far from Lake Erie. When not writing, he’s a professor of biology at Edinboro University. Craig was the featured poet and interviewed in Stone Path Review (Fall 2012). The Human Mystery Evolutionary Pagan by Briana Crusan

A common ritual occurrence at pagan festivals is that of the men’s and women’s mysteries. Men’s and women’s mystery rituals generally revolve around things like menstruation, childbirth and menopause for women, while the men’s ritual (I’ve been told) generally revolves around hunting, strength and protecting. Basically, they are rituals that explain and celebrate what it means to be male or female, and how it affects a person’s role in the greater community. This year at Summerland Spirit Festival, I had the opportunity to be part of a community women’s ritual. The day before the ritual, a workshop was held to find out what the women would like to experience. It seemed that there was a desire to do a ritual for claiming our power beyond traditional roles that no longer serve us and to engage in an activity that offered a visceral experience. The ritual theme became one of sacrificing our wounds in order to claim our power. At one point during ritual, each woman had the opportunity to step forward and speak out loud what she was sacrificing. Almost all the women expressed a wound around one of the following topics: sexuality, rape, abuse, poor body image, and/or bad relationships. Later in the night, a friend of mine remarked how all the women of the group not only had similar wounds, but they also had the same issues that the feminist movement had sought to alleviate. She said the women of her generation had thought that the fight was over, but the ritual made her realize that it’s not — that we are all still suffering.

In thinking about this experience, I contemplated how sex is related to the root chakra. The root chakra is all about home, family, structure, instinct and biological drives. So it should come as no surprise that many of the women expressed issues related to their sex. It forms the core of our identity. Then it hit me — what if the reason we have so much rape, abuse and broken homes is because the whole of society is wounded at the root chakra? By looking through the lens of the chakra system, and healing at the root level, perhaps we can start the healing process and shift beyond defining what makes us different — men, women, transgender, married, single — and look at what makes us the same. For example, no matter what the circumstances are, we all want to belong and have healthy relationships. Humans are social creatures and connect through common experience. Furthermore, while the feminist movement sought to overthrow male dominance, the end result is that everyone is now competing with each other. Did we

ever stop to tell the men what we wanted from them beyond their jobs? While there has been an upsurge in groups that honor the Divine Mother, what are we doing as a society to penetrate the dark places of our collective psyche to teach each other about respect and community? Can we call a truce in the “battle of the sexes” and instead find strength in sharing our vulnerabilities? While thinking about healing our cultural roots, my mind keeps returning to nature. Plant roots grow underground, in the dark. No one would ever call a carrot evil for its nature. When will we stop seeing the root of ourselves as baser, lesser and grosser? Will we finally see an end to issues like rape when we finally embrace our roots as equal to our minds, deserving as much attention and cultivation? With everything that is shifting in our society, it seems we are beyond women’s and men’s mysteries. It is now time to shine a light on human mysteries. I’d like to think that the more we give a voice to the darkness within our human nature, and show compassion for each other without judgment, the closer we will come to finding that oneness we all desire. We will never be whole until we embrace all of ourselves, on a personal as well as societal level. The human mystery is that voice that says: “That which thrives in the dark is not inherently evil; it’s just woefully misunderstood.” a Briana Crusan is a second generation pagan, new age spiritualist, massage therapist, energy healer and poet. A Gluten-free, Dairy-free Whole Food Recipe

Easy Caribbean Black Beans with Plantains by Maggie Christopher Black beans and plantains are a common pairing in Caribbean cuisine, however plantains can be hard to find and take a long time to ripen. So if you can’t find plantains, bananas work well in this recipe, too. Black beans are a great source of protein, potassium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. They also have the highest antioxidant levels of all legumes. Ingredients:

2 to 4 TBS olive or coconut oil 1 onion, small 2 garlic cloves 2 tsp chili powder 1 tsp cumin 1/2 tsp paprika 1/4 tsp cinnamon 2 - 15 oz cans of black beans Dash of hot sauce 1 lime 2 or 3 plantains or bananas Directions:

1. Chop the onion and garlic. In a skillet, sauté in about 1 TBS oil. Add the spices and continue to sauté until onions are translucent. 2. Drain some of the liquid from the beans. Keep enough liquid so the beans can simmer and not get too dry. In a saucepan, combine onion mixture and beans. Add a dash of hot sauce. Using a potato masher, mash some of the beans for a creamier consistency. Simmer the beans for at least 10 minutes to combine the flavors. Stir to avoid sticking. Season with sea salt and pepper if desired. 3. Slice the plantains or bananas into about 1-inch slices. In a skillet, heat about 2 TBS oil on medium heat and add plantains or bananas. Lightly brown on both sides. Once browned, drizzle with lime juice. 4. Serve the plantains or bananas on top of the beans with a side of brown rice if you’d like. Serves 4-6. a Maggie Christopher, CHNC, is a certified holistic nutrition counselor in St. Paul. She specializes in digestive issues, sugar cravings and weight loss. You may have explored the arcane symbolism in The Da Vinci Code and other Dan Brown novels, but how often do you get to meet someone whose life journey involves studying religious myths and symbols and translating ancient information for spiritual seekers today? William Henry — author, investigative mythologist and host of “Revelations” radio — will return to the Twin Cities October 11-12 to present his latest findings during a lecture and full-day workshop at Spirit United Church. Henry is the author of 17 books, including his latest, The Judgment Day Device, a fully illustrated text that explores the Ark of the Convenant, the ascension of Jesus Christ and secrets left behind by ancient metaphysicians to assist in the transformation of 21st century humans. He spoke with The Edge by phone from his home in Nashville to share insight and assist us in understanding the evolution of consciousness. Share a little bit about who you are and your life’s purpose and passion. William Henry: I’m a researcher and an author.

I call myself an investigative mythologist. I love ancient myths and legends, especially about human transformation into advanced being, maybe even like the gods of the old world systems where they were thought of as celestial beings. I have been researching in this area since 1982. I had moved from Detroit to Nashville to go to college. I went to a small Southern Baptist college here in Nashville, and the reason I went there is because they had an Entertainment Music Business degree. I had planned to become an entertainment lawyer, get in the music business and all that sort of thing. Because it was a Baptist school, the catch was you had to take Bible study classes, and I didn’t grow up in a particularly religious or even really spiritual family, and I knew very little about the Bible. It happened that during my sophomore year a professor assigned us to review a book whose implications would impact Christianity. I hiked off to the bookstore and there was this brand new book called, Holy Blood, Holy Grail. Some of your readers will be familiar with that book. That is the book that inspired The Da Vinci Code, one of

For Dan Brown’s readers, like it had for me, this idea of a lost or secret teaching of Jesus and Mary Magdalene and maybe this idea that they were married just has a power pack to it — and it launched me on this quest to pursue with the authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail to describe as the true religion of Jesus, rather than the church’s descriptive story about Jesus and Mary Magdalene. They are two completely different things. I ended up writing 17 books in and around the subject since then and presented numerous DVD presentations, and now appear on “Ancient Aliens” and other TV shows talking about these subjects. Your new book is called, The Judgment Day Device. What is the Judgment Day Device you speak of? WH: The premise of the book is that the

big three religions — Judaism, Christianity

and Islam — all have a prophecy, an end-time prophecy or what is referred to as a Judgment Day Prophecy with the appearance of a Messianic figure — you can call it the Christ, the Messiah, or the Mahdi. Most people do know that these religions have these prophecies and that it is a tremendous sense of conflict. But what most people don’t know is that all three of those figures are symbolized by the same symbol or device, and that is the Ark of the Covenant. I call it The Judgment Day Device, because all three religions proclaim that this figure will reveal the secrets of the Ark of the Covenant and its sign, or seal. An alternative word for sign or seal is the word device, which in English means a tool, an appliance. I believe the Ark of the Covenant operates on all of those levels. It is a sign, it’s a symbol, but it may be an actual tool or device that as many people believe is lost and will ultimately be recovered. The book is a fresh look at the Ark of the Covenant. So many of the popular books of the ’90s and later about the Ark of the Covenant are recycled versions of themselves, of the same books. They all cite the same popular sources, but they never go beyond the surface to actually take a deeper look at what exactly was the Ark of the Covenant. I mean, did Steven Spielberg nail it in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? No. As it turns out, Steven Spielberg had no clue what he was talking about when he presented the Ark of the Covenant, or George Lucas as well, in those Indiana Jones movies. This is a misconception that the Ark of the Covenant is a simple golden box that is going to be recovered and will be presented to the world as just this storage container. Sometimes it is portrayed as a communications device or as an energy capacitor. Some think it’s a weapon, because the Bible stories say it is radioactive. These are some of the typical takes you get on what is the Ark of the Covenant, but when you read the Bible, it says the Ark of the Covenant is the throne of God, and upon this throne is what is described as a radiant or luminous humanoid figure manifesting between the wings of the Cherubim on the Ark of the Covenant. That means the Ark of the Covenant is what today we call a teleportation or a star gate device. It is some kind of an anchoring point or a channel through which this fast-moving Divine being can manifest, and humans can have face-to-face encounters

with this figure. What I demonstrate in the book is that this is exactly what the Bible says the Ark of the Covenant was. What will be amazing to most people, certainly to most Christians, is the evidence that I put forward that shows, in fact, that not just Moses, but also Jesus was very familiar with the Ark of the Covenant and may have actually utilized it as part of His mission. And you also tie in Islam saying that perhaps Mohammed was knowledgeable of that type of device, as well. WH: Exactly. The Islamic tradition holds

that the Ark of the Covenant is the property of not just the Mahdi, but, in fact, of the Islamic people. That would be quite surprising news to most Jews and Christians, who believe that the Ark of the Covenant, if they know anything about it, is simply a Jewish relic, but it’s not. Your research in the book reminded me of a mystery story as you uncovered information by exploring ancient art, myth and literature. WH: It’s one of these cases where something

is hidden in plain sight. The art work literally shows us what the device is. In the book I offer examples where you see this astounding pillar emanating from the Ark of the Covenant. Indeed, the Israelites described what they called the Pillar of Righteousness manifesting from the Ark of the Covenant, and they described it as a pillar of light, upon which these righteous beings ascend and descend from the earthly to the Heavenly realms. When you look at the art and you combine it with what the texts say about it, at least in my imagination, it drew this clear picture that we’re talking about the Ark as some kind of a teleportation device or a transportation system. You present the art that depicts thrones and different objects, but you also discuss the power of symbols and suggest that such a device can be enacted in our imagination and through meditation. WH: I’m really glad you caught that point,

Tim, because to me that’s the real key — that was the key reveal in the book. The most surprising thing to me about the research that I did in the writing of the book was the realization that throughout history they talk about the Ark as a set of symbols with the knowledge that these have corollaries. They are psycho-spiritual symbols. You are talking about not just collecting pieces of a device out here, but our body is the actual device that we’re trying to assemble and to transform into this

teleportation system. Jewish mystics would know, for example, that the basic symbols of the Ark of the Covenant include a golden box and the rod of Aaron. Aaron’s name means enlightenment, so this is the rod of light or rod of enlightenment, the flask of manna, and the clues of what they call the “ointment of glory,” or resurrection oil. These are the basic pieces of the Ark, and sometimes they are identified in these books that talk about the Ark of the Covenant. What distinguishes my book from others is that I realized these are pieces of a kit that are to be assembled and that, in fact, these represent aspects of ourselves. The Ark of the Covenant is the container that holds the rod of enlightenment. A lot of people are familiar with the chakras. Think of our body as an energy system. In my view, the lower three chakras compose the Ark of the Covenant, and upon the lower three chakras is placed the spinal cord system, which is our anatomical rod of enlightenment. The two tablets of the law upon which the Ten Commandments are written, are the two hemispheres of our brain. And when we get this human antenna fully functioning, when we assemble these pieces, our body is capable, according to mystics, of producing an enlightenment oil that transmutes our body into light. So if you’re thinking the Ark of the Covenant is an Indiana Jones box sitting in Ethiopia or wherever, as has been proposed by some, you’re not looking at yourself. We say, “Wait a minute. Oh, I get it! My body itself is the throne of God. What I’m supposed to do it to purify myself, activate my latent spiritual capability so I can hold this Divine energy.” When you start to take the approach that I’m suggesting here, it puts you right in the center of it. Realize that each of us is, in fact, that Divine conduit, that Divine pillar of righteousness that they were talking about. The reason I think archeologists can’t find the Ark of the Covenant is because they don’t realize that they’re always sitting on it. When I read your book, it reminded me of the work of Gregg Braden in that it suggests that ancient wisdom left us tools of enlightenment that support us right now in this moment. WH: Exactly. And that takes us to this idea —

when they’re talking about a Christ, Messiah or a Mahdi — wondering if this is a single individual or if it is masses of people who suddenly wake up and begin to transform themselves. I think it’s actually masses of people. In your book you discuss the Christ mind and the consciousness in which Jesus functioned. What did you learn about that? WH: There is a consciousness that we can

tap into. It’s sort of like we’re ET following the Reese’s Pieces, and the story of Christ’s

illumination is representative of the Reese’s Pieces in this. We follow this trail. It’s taking us deep within ourselves to the place of the awakening of our own consciousness. Assuredly, that is a love-based consciousness, because that was the foundational teaching of Christ’s original message, that it’s all about love. Follow the commandments; love with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul. Love your neighbor as yourself. That, to me, is the key to piecing together the Ark of the Covenant — and it’s the key to life, actually, as well. It’s certainly the key to eternal life, because when Jesus uttered that, it was in response to a question about how do we attain eternal life. In October you’re going to be presenting “The Path of Souls, the Journey to Ascension.” Will your talk be similar to what you’re describing? WH: Yes, it will incorporate elements of

what we’ve been describing. As a result of writing The Judgment Day Device and coming upon awareness of this device, this throne of Christ or complete Ark of the Covenant, I began collecting a series of maps that ended up being navigational tools for how we can navigate the afterlife. I call it “The Path of Souls,” and what I’m doing in my presentation is delving into all the world’s spiritual traditions — beginning with the Sumerians, the Egyptians, the Native Americans, the early Christians — and discovering what they say about how we navigate the afterlife. Where do we go? How do we get there? In my two-day programs, we will look at as many as 2,000 slides of sacred art and other images that support the thesis. What idea do you want participants to leave the event with? WH: Of course, each one of us is going to

one day die. In the presentation, I ask how many hours you spent yesterday actively contemplating, planning and working on your afterlife existence. The answer is usually silence. Then I’ll ask, how many minutes? Same thing. How many seconds? The point is made that we don’t spend any time typically on our exit strategy. We spend more time on financial planning on Earth and providing for our family and this sort of thing, but we don’t really too often consciously think about where we are going next and how we will get there and what we need to be doing now to make a successful exit? That’s what I want people to think about and to contemplate, and to get some insight into from the presentation. a Read the complete uncut interview online at Edgemagazine.net. W h at i s th e ‘ A l i e n A g e n d a ? ’ by Craig R. Lang

Third of a four-part series In earlier articles of this series, we discussed some of the experiences of alien abduction: What is it and what it is not; what are its effects on the experiencer? But what actually goes on during an alien abduction? What seems to be happening — and why? What are the aliens up to? Last month, I described the case of “Evelyn,” an experiencer I featured heavily in my book, The Cosmic Bridge. During many hours of interviews and hypnosis work, we succeeded in reducing the fear, and eventually a narrative emerged of her many experiences in the phenomenal (alien) realm. During the specific event that had most frightened her, she suddenly felt herself being floated out of her bed, guided by several small aliens. They floated her out through the solid wall of her house and into a waiting UFO. She found herself in a medical-appearing examining room, lying on a table surrounded by alien beings. The beings were short, gray, hairless with big heads, large black eyes, tiny mouths and diminutive bodies — the typical description of beings known as the grays. Medical examination Typical of many abduction encounters, the grays conducted some type of medical examination. In Evelyn’s case, and in the case of so many other experiencers, I see the medical examination being the core of the close encounter experience. In an overriding majority of these cases, the examination seems focused on human sexuality and reproduction. Male abductees often describe analogous procedures where semen is extracted. Female experiencers describe analogous experiences involving an apparent ovum extraction — a large needle placed through their navel, apparently to harvest one or more of their eggs. Sometime later, during a subsequent abduction, the female experiencer undergoes a procedure involving apparent placement of “something” within her. Within a few days of the encounter, she begins to develop signs of being pregnant (in many cases the experiencer was not in a relationship and/or had not been sexually active). A few months later, just as the pregnancy is proceeding, a second abduction occurs. For many female experiencers this is particularly traumatic — when taken aboard the UFO, the woman experiences the fetus being removed from within her. I often hear heart-rending cries of “They’ve taken my baby!” at that moment in the hypnotic regression. A year or two later, the experiencer is

22

humanity to a new level? What would their motivation be?

again abducted. This time, she is taken to a place within the alien realm that looks like a nursery, often where a number of children are present. The aliens show her a small child — often with long thin hair and alienlike eyes. They tell the abductee the child is hers. The child looks too frail to survive in the human world, but appears to be part of a community of partially human hybrid children. It is not clear what the fate of these children is, but the emotional impact on the experiencer is devastating. Somewhere among the stars is her child…. What are the aliens doing, and why? Who are these star children? Are aliens creating a population of hybrid human beings somewhere out there? Or is there another purpose to this endeavor? Could the population of these hybrid beings simply be a step in developing genetic changes that could be incorporated back into the overall human population? As I interview experiencers, I often learn of a family lineage of extraordinary abilities and experiences. Grandmother, to mother, to daughter, much of it appears to extend down the maternal family line. While by no means universal, this maternal link between generations seems to be common. And in the present generation of experiencer families, a large portion of children seem gifted, with strong psychic abilities, deeply empathic and other characteristics we describe as Indigo children. Is the population of Indigo children related to the population of UFO encounter experiencers? For the moment, let’s just say the answer is “perhaps,” and ask what this might imply. Why would “they” seek to push

Change humanity? It doesn’t take too much imagination to see why “they” might want to change humanity. Looking at the state of humanity from the point of view of some cosmic civilization, we probably don’t look too pretty. Simply put, our greatest endeavor is war — and we’ve gotten very good at it. At the same time humanity has made rapid advances in space flight. Indeed, physics is advancing rapidly enough that within a few hundred years we could well have the capability to travel to the stars. From the alien perspective, this will be long before we are civilized/enlightened enough to be good cosmic citizens. From their point of view, we are probably a source of worry. Coincidentally, the UFO and the alien abduction phenomenon grew tremendously shortly after the end of World War II, when both rocket and nuclear technology advanced by decades in only a few short years. Could this be the reason “they” have more urgency to their project? There is much more we could say about this, but perhaps, we could think of the hybridization program as an effort to incorporate changes to the human gene pool, resulting in the advanced children we now see. Perhaps this is some form of “Human Improvement Project” (at least from an alien perspective). What is the relationship between these advanced children and the close encounter phenomenon? Might this be at least one purpose of the close encounter phenomenon? Or is the apparent association of these two populations — Indigos and Experiencers — merely coincidence? This would be an excellent for future research. It would give us a major clue to some of the biggest questions: What is the purpose behind alien abduction and what is the alien agenda? a Next month: The series concludes with “Does the government matter?” What role does the government have in alien abduction? cancer

Got it, loved it, let it go by Cheryl Hiltibran

My deep inner voice of Truth said, “Take the alternative road, one less traveled. Stay free of surgery, radiation, and five years of hormone treatment.” It was September 2011 and I had just heard that my diagnosis was Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in my left breast. My inner voice rose from within me and sent me into transforming my life rather than to its alternative, death; I knew immediately that the traditional medical treatment “recommendations” were not my path. “You have cancer.” Hearing those words is a life-altering event. The cancer touched me at my very core. The traditional approach to cancer felt like going to war, but fighting a battle did not feel right for me. I paused, questioning, “What’s best for me? What is the root cause of my cancer?” Getting to all the root causes — physically, mentally, emotional and spiritually — became my goal. Listening with my spiritual ears, eyes, and heart has led me in this journey, which I wrote about in a series of articles for The Edge magazine from March 2012 to December 2012. When spiritual-energy-healing occurs, the underlying structure of the illness is removed and the body repairs itself. A good example is Anita Moorjana’s near-death experience with cancer, which is wonderfully documented in her book, Dying to Be Me. One of my alternative health professionals, Dr. LeeAnn Minnaert, recently reminded me, “You really changed my way of thinking about cancer and disease in general, Cheryl. You were very loving and compassionate toward the cancer; you did not fight it. You accepted it, loved it, and learned from it.” Every self-help and spiritual book tells us to love ourselves — all of ourselves. Doing so changes your life. Through my soul-searching I became aware that I was extremely self-critical and full of self-hatred. I am winding my way out of that bumpy, twisted road. I have let go of a lot of old thought patterns and I have seen great improvements. Intuition said ‘keep looking’ Last December, fourteen months after my cancer diagnosis, I followed a friend’s recommendation to have an Infrared Thermography Scan. I wanted to confirm that the cancer was completely gone. I decided on a half-body scan rather than just a

breast scan and I am glad I did. The cancerous area was once again healthy. However, things were not as they should have been. The scan showed I had an infection in my left jaw, along the same Chinese energy meridian that also goes directly through my left breast. Valerie Zumbusch, who conducted the scan, shared with me that research done using the Infrared Thermography has found that 100 percent of people who have breast cancer also have an undetected jaw or tooth infection. I celebrated being cancer-free and savored all of the things I did to get here. I really appreciate how this journey has deepened the quality of my life, both physically and spiritually. My new lifestyle will continue to include the nutritional changes, relationship changes, and deep listening to my inner voice, which leads me to my best Self. Next, I knew I needed to focus my attention on clearing the jaw infection. Since then my energy has now rebounded even more, even though I recently discovered that the swelling in my finger joints is also an infection. I am using a simple non-invasive approach — placing raw potato pieces over the joints and taping them in place overnight. The infection is coming out through the skin. My fingers feel better than they have in months, even years! Where will I go from here? Facing cancer has given me the courage and strength to embrace my life with greater selfappreciation and self-love. The body is capable of healing itself. Personally, I highly recommend that anyone facing cancer have an Infrared Thermography Scan to see if there are other contributing factors to their body’s health challenge. Claiming my life from cancer and infection truly has been transformational. My greatest learning is through spiritual growth — I opened to the guidance of Spirit, listened deeply, and trusted it. So, where will I go from here? My next adventure is living my life in the fullness of the present moment and letting joy lead me to my next experiences. a Cheryl Hiltibran is a life coach, natural intuit and healer who assists others in being fully integrated and aligned. Apu Salkantay calls me to Peru, Senderos de Luz (Paths of Light) by Efrén Francisco Solanas Second part of a series

In October 1999, I initiated and became a practitioner of The Frequencies of Brilliance, a powerful, multi-dimensional healing modality. The course began a period of accelerated change, transforming all areas of my life. Every year since, I have reunited with the founder, Christine Day, to initiate into an additional level of the technique. During one such course in 2008, a voice spoke to me, clearly stating that I was to go — by myself — to Peru. I booked my flight to Cusco. Although, I don’t know the identity of this voice, when it speaks to me, I respond without hesitation. In April 2008, I flew to Lima and spent a night in an airport hotel. The next day, I discovered that all flights had been suspended due to heavy fog. Since the airport was filled to capacity, I retreated into a small bookstore. A book cover caught my attention: Cusco: The Gateway to Inner Wisdom: a Journey to the Energetic Center of the World. The cover notes introduced Diane Dunn with an invitation to share her journey to the Sacred Valley and initiations into the Andean spiritual tradition. I was interested, yet shelved the book, reasoning that I needed to avoid additional weight in my carry-on luggage. All flights continued to be suspended. The only choice was to wait for the fog to clear. I could not stop thinking about the book, so I returned to purchase it and began to read Diane’s fascinating story. Finally, the fog cleared and flights resumed. Our plane took off and began the steep climb to Cusco’s 11,000 feet. I didn’t mind having an aisle seat without a clear view, as I was content to read. Suddenly, feeling a strong energy to my

24

www.edgemagazine.net

left, I stood in the aisle in order to have a better view out the window. I was startled by the vision of a huge, snowcovered mountain. A voice spoke: “Hijo, bienvenido de vuelta.” “Welcome back my son.” I was deeply moved

and tears began to flow. Cusco beckons to many, many people. At my hotel in the lovely San Blas neighborhood, I began to meet people from many countries. Any pretense or separation magically dissolved as we chatted affectionately like old friends. During a conversation the next day with my travel advisor, I mentioned that I was reading Diane Dunn’s book. Smiling, she shared that they were acquaintances and offered to put me in contact. In less than a minute, I was talking with Diane, arranging to visit to her center, Paz y Luz, for a healing session. My first visit with Diane was like returning to a familiar place to visit with an old friend. I felt immediately at ease with her and impressed with the spectacular scenery. Our few hours together were identical to all of my encounters in Peru: gently, joyfully nourishing. After giving myself a few days to acclimate to the elevation, I boarded the train to Machu Picchu. Before dawn the next day, I met my guide, a gentle man of Incan ancestry. After showing me around the ruins, he explained that the line cued to climb Inka Picchu was very long, and if I preferred, he would guide me up the trail

to Machu Picchu mountain, because of the difficulty, a far less-traveled route. I agreed and we climbed for over an hour. Reaching the summit, I looked to the horizon. In the distance was a luminous, snow-capped mountain. Suddenly, a strong current of energy came from the mountain into my body. Overcome and sobbing, I dropped to my knees. My first response was to bow in reverence, touching my forehead to the ground. There were no words, just a continuous stream of pure energy. After a few minutes, it subsided. I stood up to join my guide. He led me to the edge of the precipice that provides a majestic view of the entire expanse of Machu Picchu. I could see mobs of tourists far below. He asked if I’d like to learn how to honor the Apus with the sacred coca leaves. I accepted. During this ritual, I learned that the name of the snow-capped peak, Apu Salkantay, is one of several sacred mountains that ring Machu Picchu. For centuries, the Incas have honored each mountain — or Apu — as a unique, divine consciousness. My two-week trip unfolded with graceful orchestration. On the last evening, I was invited by an Incan shaman and his Australian wife to a ritual. After enjoying a dinner they had prepared, they led me inside their small home. At the closing of the ritual, they presented me with a large condor feather. Back home I stored it carefully among my sacred objects, not fully aware of the significance or the honor that had been given me. I left Peru, deeply touched by the events and by the beauty of the Andes and her people. I imagined that I would return, but did not feel any particular urgency, as my work and the voices of many other places in the world were calling to me. a Efrén Francisco Solanas is a teacher and practitioner of Senderos de Luz, a combination of powerful multi-dimensional healing modalities. tending to the light within by Jennifer Vogel

Two winters ago, I taught a weekly one-hour Spanish class with approximately 15 children grades K-4. On the third or fourth day, my supervisor sat in on a class. I was a nervous wreck, both preparing for the class and during the class. Having no prior teaching background or training in education, my classroom management abilities needed some fine tuning and I was especially self-critical that day with her presence. It was one of the longest hours of my life. I returned home from class that day stressed, feeling nervous about my performance and the feedback I would receive, assuming it would be negative. This intense ride of emotions wasn’t the last of it. I typically don’t experience much physical pain, but on this occasion I felt a great deal of pain in my low back, so I put my hands on that area and started massaging. Immediately, I began to cry like a child, wailing, with no conscious thought in mind. When I stopped massaging, I stopped crying. When I massaged again, I wailed again. I knew that I was having an emotional release and couldn’t believe that I sparked it with my own two hands. This went on until I fell asleep in the process. Later on, when I awoke, I tried continuing the process, because I knew more release needed to happen. It became very clear, however, that I wasn’t ready for more…until a few months ago during a week-long dog sitting gig. It seemed like I was on a nature retreat, the forest right outside with an abundance of wildlife. At one point, I felt pain in my chest, the seat of the heart chakra. I could feel pain actually on my sternum bone and in the tissue. As before, I began massaging out the pain with intent to heal whatever it was, crying again without a thought in mind. The next morning, I woke up and noticed that the area I had massaged was now irritated with tiny, pin-sized red bumps. Knowing that healing responses can reveal themselves with physical manifestations on our bodies, I was surprised by the fact that I had another emotional release, but this time accompanied with a physical response. The bumps lasted for about a week and became itchy as they healed. The pain in my tissues lasted for about a week, too, while the pain on my sternum bone lasted for two weeks. Right around the time the pain was subsiding, I fulfilled a year-old promise to myself to see an acupuncturist/healer here in the Twin Cities whom three close friends of mine recommended based on their experiences with her. She asked me if there was anything I wanted to focus on and I told her my heart chakra. So she placed the pin-sized needles where she saw fit at various points on my body, one of them sitting above

my sternum where I still felt some pain. Once she finished putting the needles in, she placed two gemstones on the center of my chest: a rose quartz and a labradorite. Throughout the session I lay there, anxious, finding it difficult to relax. I had a hard time silencing the mental chatter. Eventually, she returned to the room and asked me how it went. “Pretty good,” I responded nervously with a smile. She picked up the rose quartz and the labradorite and was surprised to feel how hot they were. I felt them and instantly knew that something had taken place. Forces beyond my awareness were indeed at work during the session. Despite knowing this, I left the session feeling the same as when I had walked in, although a little more relaxed, and I continued on with my to-do list. It has been almost two months since the healing session with this incredible woman and I’ve noticed great shifts in my being, all of them related to the healing properties from the gemstones used in the session: unconditional love, clarity, healing/clearing blockages, transformation and balance. I can feel the difference. I feel activated, focused and ready to pursue my passions without hesitation or fear. I’m ready to awaken, cultivate and nurture my gifts and talents. As I live life increasingly in alignment with my purpose on this planet, healing my wounds and feeding the fire within, I feel more alive than ever and am determined to continue this ever-evolving process of realizing my fullest potential while encouraging others to do the same. When our own light is shining bright, we inevitably brighten the light of those around us and thereby illuminate all life on Earth…so find your light and shine it bright! a Jennifer Vogel is a self-employed dog sitter who previously worked for Conscious Media Network. The following information offers details on why it was created and how the world continues to observe it:  World Peace and Prayer Day — also known as Honoring Sacred Sites Day — was envisioned and brought forth by Chief Looking Horse as a day to join worldwide communities and people of all races, ages, genders, and faiths, who share concern for the welfare of the Earth and humanity. Honoring ceremonies, invocation and prayer are observed in collaboration with local indigenous representatives.

Special guest speakers, wisdom keepers and activists of all denominations share spiritual insight and discuss important environmental concerns and cures — on both a local and global level. This profoundly auspicious time is elevated by a cross-cultural celebration of music, dance, and storytelling. Visit worldpeaceandprayerday. com

Pea ce in th e wind by Tim Hulst

It was fifty years ago this summer that Bob Dylan was first heard on radios and record players singing, “How many seas must a white dove sail before she sleeps in the sand… how many times must the cannon balls fly before they’re forever banned? The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind….” While the answer is still blowing in the wind, and we don’t know when wars will end, we do know how they will end. As Abraham Hicks explained, “A war is the by-product of the vibration of the masses.” Therefore, wars will end when values change. As John Lennon said, “If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there’d be peace.” And President Eisenhower said, “I think that people want peace so much that one of these days government had better get out of their way and let them have it.” Because it’s as simple as valuing peace, anyone can make a difference in moving the world a little closer. Consider the following insights: From Deepak Chopra: “A world of peace is possible only if we relate to each other as peaceful beings, one individual at a time.” From Nhat Hanh: “If in our daily life we can smile, if we can be peaceful and happy, not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work.” From Silvia Cartwright: “The quest for peace begins in the home, in the school and in the workplace.” Unlikely as it may seem, given our daily media dosage of war and insurrection, it appears that the winds of peace really are

blowing and the world really is shifting. Harvard professor and psychologist Steven Pinker has extensively researched the frequency of war and violence through the centuries, and he claims they are waning. In his 2011 book, The Better Angels of our Nature: Why Violence has Declined, he uses dozens of graphs and figures to show that murder and violence occur much less today than in previous eras. For example, centuries ago tribal warfare was nine times greater than war and genocide even in the 20th century, and the murder rate of Medieval Europe was more than 30 times greater than today! Slavery, sadistic punishments and vigilante executions were common for millennia, and then were quickly abolished. Violent crimes, deadly riots and child abuse have all declined substantially. Pinker attributes this to the spread of government, literacy, trade and cosmopolitanism. Recent decades in the U.S. also seem to confirm the shift. Consider that Dylan wrote his anthem one year before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, when African Americans were often denied basic civil rights. And it has only been this June that the Supreme Court expanded rights to the LGBT community. Perhaps the next civil rights push will be a global movement for peace, and soon people will wonder in dumbfounded amazement why war was ever tolerated. a Tim Hulst writes for world peace and believes using one’s talents and resources is the key to personal fulfillment, spiritual growth and a better more peaceful world. Living in Balance our featured topic

The Secret to Being in Balance by Louis Bourgeois What I have found in my experience, and offer to others as a model, is that the true secret to living in balance is the recognition of the powerful center within. When we “try” to create more balance in our lives, often this is simply a reaction to a sense of being out of balance in the first place. New Year’s resolutions are often filled with a despair that arises from this disconnection from one’s true core. Top-down remedies (more meditation, a new spiritual path) or bottom-up remedies (move to a new part of the world, find a new job/partner) are doomed to failure. Discovering one’s radiant energetic center, on the other hand, opens our heart to embrace the beautiful dance of life, within and without. We come to see, feel and understand energetically how the universe, this world and our own being is always naturally seeking balance. Our job, then, once we recognize and understand this natural flow, is simply to allow, and enjoy living! In general, I can say that any mind-centered attempt to find balance in the world or in one’s

life is impossible, simply in that the mind itself is but an aspect of our being. In our modern culture, this masculine aspect has been overly developed and worshipped, creating an imbalance within most. My life’s journey has taught me about the deep value of my feminine, soul-centered beingness. By deepening and strengthening my relationship with my feminine soul, I have found that my masculine intellect is no longer problematic. When our energetic system is properly aligned, the feminine soul leads our way. This is the root understanding of the directive “seek ye first the kingdom of heaven in all that you do.” Our divine feminine is this kingdom, deeply peaceful, rooted in stillness. When I learned to walk in the world with “one foot in eternity,” all mental fear-based illusions melted away. Our eternal reality, this kingdom of heaven within, becomes the epicenter of our lives, and then naturally we learn to live a life “whole, happy, and free.” Seeking balance, or harmony, or happiness, or Balance continued on page 28  septembER 2013   the edge

 Balance continued from page 27 freedom can never work, since the very essence of seeking something is the affirmation that you don’t already have it. Our very nature, our true essence, is balance. If we allow the balance and harmony of our essence to radiate into our day-to-day living, it is a guarantee. Universal law, the essence of all life, will prevail, so long as we don’t run interference patterns. The standard interference pattern in our culture is “over thinking,” placing too much of our trust in our mind, our beliefs, our conditioning, losing contact with a deeper authority. It is difficult for me today to spend much time at all on “problems.” If we address any situation, like our internal sense of being out of balance, as a problem needing to be fixed, we have already become lost. This is the way our mind is conditioned, and those under the influence of this cultural conditioning are forever running to one potential solution or another, like sandpipers on the beach, efforting, feeling anxious or depressed, and doomed to failure. There is another way, but it is a “road less traveled.” In time, we will each experience a dramatic “revolution” in which we discover, acknowledge and finally become willing to escape the mental conditioning of a culture in collapse. A new earth is awaiting those daring enough to join this revolution, this new earth arising from the awakened awareness of the inner kingdom. It is a promise of our evolutionary brilliance, some individually, but ultimately, all collectively, that we will birth this new earth. And here we will each know balance and harmony, and we will live as One. a Louis Bourgeois is a spiritual teacher, writer and co-founder of OASIS Center for Conscious Living. He has spent previous summers in Stillwater, MN, and will be leaving the United States in October as he ventures to Peru and Ecuador, sharing principles for consciously living in harmony with the new earth we are creating. Living from the Center Within: Tools for transformation, balance

by Michele Rae What an amazing time to be on the planet. We are experiencing radical fundamental changes in the way we know and see ourselves and the world. The pace of change is accelerating rapidly. How do we keep our balance and best co-create who we are becoming during these extraordinary shifts? As a transformational coach and a lifelong student and teacher of human development, I believe each of us already has what we need to make these shifts with ease, flow and grace: the capacity to advance towards higher consciousness. The answer lies in applying ancient wisdom and modern insight in our present moment. This cultivates our awareness and attention, and it leads to inner peace, balance, tolerance, harmony, vitality and equanimity. All of us, individually and collectively, are invited to intentionally expand towards higher consciousness. So what is higher consciousness? I understand consciousness as a vast interconnected field of which all life is a part. You can imagine consciousness as a large web of seen and unseen connections that are changing and evolving continuously. Our individual awareness — our ability to perceive, realize and make meaning of our experience — dictates how much of this web we can access. As we realize higher levels of consciousness, our inner peace and worldview transform radically. So how do you increase awareness? First you assess your current condition. Is my body, mind or emotions out of balance? Is my attention captured by worry, drama, emotional or physical distress, negative self-talk or judgment? Is my mind-body in a state of over-arousal with my fight-and-flight stress response cranked up? When you find yourself in this state of lower consciousness primarily identified with ego and your small separate self, there are techniques designed to direct attention away from arousal and towards focus. These transformative practices — skills designed to center, quiet, still and open the mind-body-heart and focus attention and awareness in the present moment — will bring you back to balance. Concentrative practices, such as movement in yoga, qi gong, t’ai chi, listening to guided imagery, deep breathing while repeating a word in your mind, and affirmations, can be useful tools. Aromatherapy, biofeedback and art, such as writing, drawing, sculpting and making mandalas and collage, are excellent choices to facilitate healing our holes and moving us towards balance and wholeness. Transformative practices cultivate conditions to move not only from dysfunction to optimal functioning of health and well-being, but continue to launch us to present-moment

www.edgemagazine.net

awareness and openhearted wakefulness. Many reading this article are healers, teachers and leaders like yourself. You may have developed some mastery at sustaining calm, ease and flow. If you find yourself in this state of middle consciousness, transformative practices that cultivate wholeness and connection — such as mindfulness meditation, journaling, guided imagery, chant and music — expand awareness. Other techniques include studying symbol, myth, archetypes, practicing ritual or cultivating inner traits and attitudes such as gratitude. As your awareness opens further, you have more access to subtle energies like intuition, synchronicity, discernment, inspiration and revelation. By continuing long-term transformative practices, you experience unity consciousness and develop a sense of harmony with all that is. That which remains unchanging, the ground of being from which all springs forth, remains the point of reference instead of that which is continuously changing. Often your initial taste is a momentary state of bliss. Any and all transformative practice can lead to this state of higher consciousness. You no longer experience a sense of practicing a technique as it becomes embodied at the fullest capacity. Practice becomes what is and disappears, along with all sense of separation. This process of expanding into higher consciousness shifts your self-identification from having holes to being whole — and ultimately knowing your Holiness. This higher level of consciousness is essential to create new solutions in our rapidly changing world. Insight and delight arises when we relax, trust, quiet our minds, and generate new paradigms without the filters of limiting beliefs. Fortunately, it is a natural human tendency to move toward ever-expanding levels of consciousness. As our true nature is realized, our capacity to co-create who we are becoming personally, interpersonally, organizationally, in our families, communities, institutions and globally is enhanced beyond measure. a Michele Rae, through The Center Within, offers transformational coaching for personal, interpersonal and organizational growth cultivating higher consciousness of mindbody-spirit in her St. Paul and Minneapolis offices, via phone or Skype. She offers monthly connection and attunement classes at her HippHealth Minneapolis office and teaches at the University of Minnesota’s Center for Spirituality and Healing in the health coaching program. Practice for balance by Karen Kinnard

It’s coming soon. I know you don’t want to think about it. Last winter was one of the longest winters I have ever lived through. One year, I lived in northwest Wisconsin, and we had snow once in May and again in June. I observe that in the month of February, we begin to think that maybe spring will be here soon. In March, we are certain spring is coming soon. By April, if spring is not here yet, well, this is where the skills developed from a long time of yoga and meditation practice come in handy. What I notice first is that many people around me are in various stages of anger and despair. When we practice yoga and meditation, we can move beyond anger and despair. These are our thoughts and feelings. We become the observer of those thoughts and feelings. We become the observer — not the thoughts and feelings. This is the distinction that makes all of the difference. This is what keeps me sane through a long Minnesota winter. There are many skills one can develop to thrive during dark times. Now, is the best time to begin to practice these skills. Don’t shove winter back into the denial drawer. Prepare for it now by practicing. Here are some tips (you will have a few more to add depending on what communities you are a part of):  Eat as much local grown fresh food as possible during the

summer/fall months (fruits and vegetables). Stock up on locally grown storable vegetables for winter. When winter comes and stays, you can draw on the reserves of this wealth of nutrients from the land around us.  Spend time just “being” in the sun, walking barefoot on the grass and sit down and look at the trees, listen to the wind. Your brain needs these things. The only way to store these types of memories is to be fully present now.  Make a list of things you know make you happy. Create an artistic presentation of your list to put up on your wall or bathroom mirror for winter.  Take some photos outdoors this summer (another opportunity to be present).  Find a yoga or meditation studio you feel at home in. You can be a part of a community that practices a more positive point of view. Yogis and meditators are generally friendly, community minded folks! Examples of other communities: indoor climbing, health clubs, trampolines, raw food establishments, hiking, camping, biking, running, walking, kirtan, you can probably think of more.  Nurture yourself and others around you.  Live, play, work, and be present for all of it! a Karen Kinnard is a yoga teacher, meditator, mom, grandma, wife, backpacker, traveler, studio owner, yoga teacher trainer, biker, climber, camper, reader and cat owner. Karen Kinnard writes a blog called Yoga Care Challenge on Wordpress, owns Yoga Prairie in Eden Prairie and loves to laugh. Contact her at yogacarechallenge.com. Copyright © 2013. Balancing the seesaw of life by Sage Lewis I woke up this morning while vacationing in South Dakota feeling some grief in my body — a heart full of heaviness and uncertainty, and a head full with confusion. In that moment, I had a choice of how to respond. Should I avoid it? Try to figure it out? Push it away? Take it out on my beloved lying next to me? Or find a better way? At age 46, I’d like to think I’ve learned a few things, but some days still test me. While uncomfortable energy moved through my body, I noticed the swirling thoughts in my head, and I found stillness. Taking a breath, I exhaled and rested quietly in bed with my eyes closed until the “made up” stories began to dissipate — creating an empty mind that allowed me to become more present. Recognizing the heaviness in my heart, I took more deep breaths, and held my partner’s hand as he drifted in and out of sleep. I held still. Often we run in circles, run toward or run away. Running sometimes feels more comfortable in the moment because what we’re really running from is discomfort. What I’ve learned is that we have another option. When I keep my body still, my mind can unravel and my feelings can sort themselves out.

Getting out of bed, I grabbed a glass of water, climbed up into the cozy little loft in the cabin and began to write in my journal. Tears came as I uncovered a deep feeling of loneliness that I wasn’t yet totally clear around. As I continued to write, the grief that was moving through me felt deeply connected to spending time the day before at Porcupine, Wounded Knee, Manderson, Pine Ridge and the gravesites of Big Foot, Black Elk and Red Cloud. Tears flowed as I held my body still — allowing the uncomfortable energy to move through me. Two days of car travel that took us from the interstate highway to the Badlands to the Lakota reservations, then back to the busy-ness of Custer, SD, I noticed my body, mind and spirit needing more balance. As my partner became more awake, my work became finding a healthy way to let him into what was happening inside me so that he could understand, accept and support. It’s easy to find solace when you’re on your own, but add a loved one and then the seesaw has another player! As a kid I remember sitting on the seesaw alone and how easy it was to find my balance, my little legs barely touching the ground. Nothing was resisting me on the other end, so it felt easy. But when my older

(and heavier) sister jumped on one end, I flew up into the air, and now she was in control. “Farmer, farmer let me down!” I’d yell, and she’d reply with a grin, “What will you give me if I let you down?” “A Hershey bar,” I’d reply. It always worked, even if I didn’t really have anything to give her. When I’m trying to find balance, I remind myself that it’s really quite simple when I don’t resist. When I “go with” whatever is showing up, and take the time to find my ground, I notice that life runs a whole lot smoother. Snuggling up next to me at the breakfast nook booth that was tucked underneath the loft, my sweetheart put his arm around me and listened deeply with his heart. Inviting him onto my seesaw, I shared the words that went with the loneliness and grief as he held me in his arms. More tears came as I assured him that everything was okay — that I was letting go of what I didn’t need anymore, and that the rainbow was soon to come. And then it did. Joy is always just around the corner, but we resist it by thinking, discerning, worrying and running in circles. When we take the time to find that sweet spot of “now,” we can find what it feels like to be a kid again — balancing both ends of the seesaw from our tippy toes, feeling the sun on our skin, and the wind in our hair. a Sage Lewis is the Creature Teacher with Dancing Porcupine and is a Certified Life Coach, Shamanic Practitioner, Animal Communicator, Intuitive/Medium, Wedding and Funeral Officiant, Animal Hospice Consultant and Level 3 Certified Tellington TTouch® Practitioner. words of wisdom by Nadine Penny

Snap those fingers, shuffle those feet, put the wiggle in those hips and shimmy to the beat! Make September a dance-fest all month long and feel great in body and spirit as you balance your chakras and firm up those thighs with some belly-dancing, hip-hop, cha-cha or fox-trot. Dance makes for good mind medicine, too. In a 21-year study of seniors 75 and older, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine found that dance provides the best protection against dementia of any activity studied. So start those feet a-tapping, set that heart a-beating and send your soul a-soaring this Labor Day and, as Ellen says, “Just Dance!” Nadine Penny attained her M.A. from the University of Denver in Counseling Psychology. Nadine lives in Minnetonka where she works as a medium, life issues reader and Reiki master. Contact her by email at nadine.penny@gmail.com and visit www.nadinepenny.com. Copyright © 2013.
