Gardening and the Environment

Through this club our students had the opportunity to be in contact with nature, and were able to feel the pleasure of observing plants, their development from the earliest moment, and to experience happiness seeing the results - grown plants, flowers, trees, etc. moreover, our students live in the capital of Bulgaria and they are a bit far from these activities.

Gardening - Planting flower seeds.

The first activity that our students did was to sow the seeds of spring flowers in the early spring so that they could later plant them in the garden of the school yard. They used small pots and boxes of eggs.

Afterplantingtheflowers, thestudentsdecoratedthegreenareas, paintedandplacedborders and decorated them with pebbles. So they created and took care of the green areas in the school yard, created flower gardens and decorated them. In practice, students learned the basic activities in floriculture and gardening. We also paid attention to the therapeutic effect when working with plants and in nature. The students learned how to take care of the environment, how to keep it clean and beautiful, communicate without mobile devices, communicate with each other, work in teams and feel really happy.

We completed our activities in Club 3 in decorating, decorating green areas by painting, cleaning and decorating the garden corners. In conclusion, we can summarize that the creation, decoration and maintenance of our garden corners under the project took a lot of time and effort, but gave us real pleasure and created beauty in the yard of our school.

Gardening and the Environment

Organic garden

The students made an organic corner in the school yard, where they planted various types of spices and herbs - mint, lavender, balm, basil, thyme, rosemary, oregano, parsley, dill, etc. They set up a place in the school yard and created the organic corner, thus realizing the importance of growing some of the products themselves that are environmentally friendly, free of pesticides and chemicals. The students also learned how to do it at home and to use the products on their table as spices when cooking, or for tea and other beverages. In this way, the students got acquainted with organic farming as a way to connect traditional agricultural concepts with urban life, and found that it is not so complicated to grow organic products at home or in smallspaces, ie. nospecial conditions arerequired to make each your own small organic garden.

P9 Club 3 - Gardening and the Environment

The students participated in activities for environmental protection, protection and creation of green areas; waste separation; recycling, etc. They took care of the already created gardens and green areas in the school yard, kept it clean and cleaned of weeds and grass. In this way the students understood and learned how important it is to protect nature, to take care of it, that it is extremely important for humanity to protect the environment, thus the students developed a personal and civic attitude towards our environment and nature.

At the end of the school year, the result of all activities in club 3 - Gardening and Environmental Protection is visible and very beautiful. The flowers are blooming, the gardens and corners we have created in the yard of our school look wonderful and everyone - young and old, students, parents, teachers and guests enjoy them and we are all proud of the beauty created.

Our students decided at our school to collect plastic caps and dispose of garbage separately - these are the most common ways of recycling that children can follow both at school and at home. We have collected a large amount of plastic caps in recent months, which we will donate to a charity campaign to collect plastic and caps in Sofia in the fall. The students will continue this activity in the summer and at the beginning of the new school year we expect a large amount of collected plastic.

The students made and recorded the first podcast in our school as true professionals. Students from 3rd, 4th and 5th grades got involved and discussed environmental issues. Each of the participants in the podcast expressed their opinion on environmental protection to the presenter. There was a great discussion, the students had prepared themselves as real experts with responsible behavior towards our environment. The host of the podcast was a 5th grade student. The recording was extremely successful.
