club

Readings of different literary genres; recreational, expressive, individual and group readings, etc.

The purpose of this club was for children to discover the magic of books.

First graders showed their favorite books and read excerpts from them. They told the the books' stories and demonstrated how well they could read.

P16 Club 6 – Reading

Students from grades 1 and 6 participated in this club and many interesting activities were implemented. First we did a literary reading by older students for the younger students in first gradeAnnie, Bella and Antonia from 6th grade showed the younger students their favorite books, read from them in different genres, and told them about their favorite characters. In this way, they helped children understand the pleasure of reading books and inspired them to read more.

This literary reading was very educational and interesting for the first graders. They understood how good and important it is to read books, and they felt the beauty of reading.

The 4th and 6th grade students chose their favorite books and authors as well. They made short videos in which they read extracts in both English and their mother language from their favorite books, from different genres.

P17 Club 6 – Reading club

Meeting/Conference on reading genres and books with all partners, in videoconference

Three 6th grade students presented videos together with students from the other project partner countries. They read from their favorite books in English, and this resulted in international literary reading through the Internet, which was very interesting and impressive.

P18 Club 6 – Reading club

Book bank. Library.

The next activity was to set up a book corner in our school to serve as a book bank where anyone can pick up a book to read and then return. The older students introduced the first graders to this opportunity, showed them where the books were, and taught them how they could use it.

Another Reading Club activity was introducing the first grade students to the school library, as they had not visited a library until that point. The older students took the first graders to the school library and told them what libraries are and how they work. The children were very impressed to find so many interesting books.

Together, they explored the school library, followed how the books were arranged alphabetically or by author, and found out how they could register and receive books to read at home. Immediately there were people who wanted to enroll and the first books were taken.
