CULTURE AND NATURE

Our legacy Thanks to the countless remains that can be found throughout the Sierra del Retín and Sierra de la Plata, we know of the existence of settlements that could date back to Prehistoric times, with the presence of cave paintings, megalithic constructions such as dolmens, menhirs and cists; tombs carved into the stone, and even remains of a Visigothic Church. Most of the caves are protected today since they have already been intentionally defaced with graffiti and scratches. As the Sierra del Retín belongs to the Ministry of Defence and the paintings are near an army training camp, access is forbidden to visitors and hikers. The caves at Sierra de la Plata, however, can be visited, but there are no signposts, so it is recommended to hire the services of a local guide if you wish to visit them.
