Reading

A Home for the Puppy

One day a little Dalmatian puppy sat across the street from a school. The puppy was watching the children play. He wanted to play with them, but he was afraid. He was lost and didn’t have a home.

So he followed two boys home from school. He stayed at the front yard and waited for the boys to come out. He followed the boys to the park and played with them.

One day the Dalmation puppy saw that the house was on fire. The puppy was afraid. He barked and barked, but no one listened. So he decided to run to the fire station. He ran and barked all the way there.

The puppy barked at the firefighters. They seemed to understand, so they jumped on their trucks and left. They followed the puppy home. The house was on fire. The firefighters put the fire out. They saw the puppy barking in the front yard. “Look, that’s the little puppy who came barking to the station, ” Firefighter Pedro said.

He picked up the puppy in his arms and took him to the house. “Hello boys, does this little puppy live here?” “He followed us from school and we have adopted him,” said one boy. “ Well,” said Firefighter Pedro, “he is a hero. He barked at us and we understood there was danger. We followed him here and he has saved your lives.” “Thanks!” said the boys.

The boys were very happy. The Dalmation had saved their lives. The boys named the dog Spanky. They played with the Dalmation all afternoon. The boys had fun with the dog.

Reading What does congratulations mean? It is an expression of joy in the success or good fortune of another.

When do we congratulate others?

We congratulate others when they achieve something important and we feel proud about them. We also congratulate others when doing something good.

We congratulate each other when we graduate.

Maybe your older brother has just gotten his driver’s license. We can congratulate him for that. Now he can drive a car by himself and take you to school.

We congratulate others when they win first place in a competition and become champions.

We congratulate others, especially parents, on the arrival of a new baby.

We congratulate others when they get married and have a big wedding celebration.

Practice Adjectives

What is an adjective? An adjective is a word that modifies a noun or a pronoun by describing, identifying, or quantifying. An adjective usually precedes the noun or the pronoun which it modifies. In the following examples, the highlighted words are adjectives: The cat-shaped balloon floated in the air. Mr. Lugo painted the kitchen walls with fresh paint. The little airplane flew up in the dark sky. The yellow flowers were pretty. Many books have the same number of pages. The brown monkey played a music box. The classroom was filled with large, brown boxes of books. Story Sequence
