Brian Mulvin and John Somers win Pro-Pro Championship

June was a busy month for the North Florida PGA! It began with the Celebration of Members on June 5th, where the 2022 Section Award winners were officially honored and given the opportunity to relish in their achievements, acknowledge their greatest influences and supporters and share in a joyous celebration with the other honorees. Additionally, 4 Members were inducted into the 2022 NFPGA Hall of Fame: Mike Lynch, Kevin Paschall, Tim Beckwith (posthumously) and Irv Schloss (posthumously). On June 6th, the 43rd Annual Meeting presented by Global Golf Sales took place at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort. Bill Filson served as the morning keynote speaker while PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh served as the afternoon keynote speaker and led a discussion on leadership. The event was capped off with a Business Meeting and Election of Leaders. One day later, the Annual Meeting events were capped off with the Yamaha Pro-Pro at Grand Cypress. The Pro-Pro took place on the newly designed Florida Course with Dalton Bartlett and Matthew Chen securing the victory after a 5-hole playoff.

The Junior NFPGA Championships at Falcon’s Fire Golf Club saw more than 100 young players battle it out for the opportunity to play in the 46th Boys and Girls Junior PGA Championships at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Palos Park, Illinois on Aug 2-5th. The following players will represent the North Florida Section: Boys: Reggie Zhu and Garret Ebbert Girls: Nancy Dai and Kate Barber Jennifer Borocz, Sandra Changkija and Stephanie Connelly Eiswerth all competed in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, making up Nancy Dai places first at the Girls Junior NFPGA Championship

three of the nine spots occupied by PGA/LPGA Professionals who played in the Championship at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD. This marked Borocz’s second appearance in the event, Changkija’s seventh appearance and Connelly Eiswerth’s fourth appearance. Borocz (North Florida PGA), Changkija (ChampionsGate Golf Resort) and Connelly Eiswerth (San Jose Country Club) all recently competed in the NFPGA Match Play Championship in May. Additionally, David Hronek (GOLFTEC-Sarasota) competed in the 42nd U.S. Senior Open at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA. Hronek, the 2021 NFPGA Senior Player of the Year, qualified for the Championship after he shot 2-under (70) at the Qualifying Round at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club on May 23rd. The month concluded with two Section events: the NFPGA Assistant Professional Championship at Countryside Country Club and the Pro-Pro Championship at TPC Prestancia. Greg Koch was victorious at the Assistant Professional Championship after finishing at -3 (141) after two rounds of play. Brian Mulvin and John Somers edged out a win at the Pro-Pro Championship. After a 5-hole playoff, they finished at 17-under (127) and pulled ahead against Stephen Arnold and Christian Bartolacci. With June in the rear view, the summer season is still in full swing as July and August are actionpacked and full of great Section, Chapter and Junior events! Golf Central • Volume 23, Issue 4
